dropping calls - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Is anyone else on Verizon
Dropping calls.
I mean lots of calls
Thought it was because of root.
Not unrooted stock still drops calls.
Need to RMA before bootloader
Patch.
Thought maybe it could be my
Sim card acting up as sometimes I lose cell signal

It seems it's a common problem in Verizon, I'm not rooted. I even got a new SIM, it didn't help. Apparently the radio is having a hard time switching down to CDMA in poor LTE coverage areas. Lots of users reporting this in reddit. I'm hoping next maintenance release fixes this.

I haven't had any issues with mine *so far*.. rooted and on NDE63N

I'm not having dropped call issues, but during calls the other end can't hear me at times or vice versa. Have to hang up and call back. I have a replacement coming, but my until the middle of December.

I've dropped several calls on Verizon. Let's hope for a software fix soon

So another pixel, isn't going to fix this issue.
I can only hope a software patch fixes this issue.

Same here, dropped calls that never happened with my Nexus 6. Google and Verizon had no real fix for me and didn't acknowledge it as a widespread issue.

Are you on Verizon? Have you used the phone on a car or train? Calls drop a lot when switching towers on Verizon.

Was on the phone with Verizon and Google.
They acknowledged this is a widespread issue.
Just be careful when the patch comes out that they don't sneak in a bootloader relock.
Or unrootable update, honestly I think this will be a fairly large update that contains some if not all of those fixes.

That's really good to hear, I called them a couple of weeks ago and they kept blaming each other so I gave up.

Same issue. I just got my replacement and it did the same thing. Also having a weird issue where the phone dialer is garbled (looks like missing portions of digits and letters).

There isn't going to be an update that relocks the bootloader. There never has been, and likely never will be. I'd imagine that the logistics behind it would be overly complicated for the minor benefit it would have for the carrier.

I mentioned this in another thread. Setup>more>network settings reset resolved my outgoing call issues as well as pickup and dropped call issues.

Ok, this is reassuring as I thought it was mine. The issue is pretty annoying. Good thing I haven't needed it in an emergency situation and it dropped on me. Crazy part is I thought wifi calling wouldn't be affected but I was wrong about that

I've been on Verizon for years and just when I got my Pixel is when I've had an issue with nearly every phone call. Not dropping but the caller suddenly cannot hear me like another reply mentioned. Seems it "might" be aligned with when a text or email comes in while I'm on the phone. Or it could be when I stray from the phone with my earpiece in. I hope they push a fix, it's the Pixel not Verizon.

Have ya'll tried turning on wifi calling? I live in a spotty area and this seems to help me. Make sure you also go to settings-wifi and click the settings wheel and activate the switch to cellular automatically. I also tried to activate aggressive switching on developer mode but it doesn't stick after a reboot.

I'm on Verizon, using Verizon Pixel, no issues at all with calls. Running NPF26J with radio and modem from NDE63X.

Hearing caller before answering?

Ok this was a blast from the past for me last night, I remember this happening on my Mogul. My evo was lying on the counter charging, the phone rang and while it was still ringing I could clearly hear the person calling talking to someone else with them before I even picked up the phone to answer it.
Does it still count against your minutes if you don't answer the phone?
I was thinking about if this was possible a couple weeks ago, I don't see why it wouldn't be, just have to activate their mic when they call.
This happened all the time on my touch pro 2 with energy rom glad no one was talking crap before I picked up.

That's actually kind of cool - I wonder if someone can build an app that would do this intentionally.
It's not actually that cool. This happens to me. It's quite annoying when the phone is on silent or vibrate and I'm in a meeting at work and get a call and all of a sudden you can hear people talking. Not good.
I've narrowed this down in my case to it being an issue with receiving calls from the AT&T mobile network. All the calls I've received that do this are from AT&T users or Net 10 users (which are using the AT&T network). No issues with calls from other Sprint users, Verizon, etc. As of now, Sprint hasn't been able to offer a fix.
Anyone else had this problem? Any resolution?
Oh, and I have an Evo. Bought it on launch day from Radio Shack.
I have this problem too, I guess I have to send the phone to RMA. Tried with different ROMS (official), still the same.
Well, I have flashed the 3.14 ROM official WWE and seems the problem is gone now. Check it please and reply .

2 dinc2's calling malfunction?

Got 2 dinc2's 2 weeks ago for daughter and son.
My daughters phone will occasionally receive a call that was placed to my son's phone. I personally happened once when I called him and she answered (wtf?) I hung up called right back and it went correctly. She has also said some of his friends calls are being routed to her.
Both phone ota gingerbread, both activated minutes apart. I am wondering if somehow the esn's are being mixed up at Verizon, but can't figure out why some calls go correctly as some don't.
Any ideas?

That is strange, it seems like that must be an issue with Verizon. I'd tell em about the issue and see what they have to say. Definitely not a common issue though, as far as I know.
Verizon has some finicky account management and provisioning systems. This is definitely not a common problem, but I could definitely believe it could happen.
Try calling *228 and press 1 on each device (this is the activation extension). If that doesn't solve the problem, contact Verizon.
Doh..
Didn't even think to *228...
Will do and report if problems keep at it

Verizon Pixel XL on T-Mobile (One) - Cannot hear callers/incoming calls

I've been using this Verizon-bought Pixel XL on T-Mobile for a few months now and have been experiencing this more and more frequently in the last few weeks. I haven't noticed it while calling out but when I receive calls sometimes, the callers can hear me but I cannot hear them at all (mute, absolutely no sound). I've also experienced this on subsequent incoming phone calls numerous times. I thought that it might just be a signal problem the first few times but it's been happening way too frequently and is unacceptable. I've notified T-Mobile of the concern and they're "looking into it." It happens frequently enough that I'd rather not pick up when work calls and would rather it go to voicemail. Has anyone also experienced this with their Pixel XL? Google search didn't come up with anything useful.
I haven't restored the phone OS yet but also feel that that may not fix the issue. I also have WiFi Calling turned off.
I know this post is over a year ago, but curious what the solution was or if others are having the same problem. I recently bought a Pixel XL and experiencing the same issue on random times. My phone is a Google bought phone on cricket (AT&T network).
Every day after 3pm, who ever calls me, I cannot hear them. I need to reboot my phone and everything is back to normal...

Call issues

Hey guys, I have a Moto z2 force with tmo. I've noticed some issues with normal calling, sometime the other party can't hear me and I don't know why this is. Any ideas?

Weird, I've never had any call issues. You're not accidentally covering the microphone by the fingerprint sensor are you? Any cases/screen protectors that could be doing so?
My screen cover is near the edge of the mic hole, but doesn't obstruct it. It's very random and the only issue I've had. Other than that I like the phone. It did do this a few times without the screen cover tho. FYI.

Do you have any apps installed for call recording? I just had the same problem and had to uninstall the app before my mic would work in calls.
I'm having the same problem but it only occurs when my WiFi is on. I have a recording app, Cube ACR. I don't understand why it would only cause problems when WiFi is on since I have WiFi calling disabled. I will try uninstalling the app and see if I still have the issues of people not being able to hear me.

I've gotten this too. Oddly enough, it only seems to happen when the person on the line is running a Samsung galaxy S7. I think the modem may have some bugs to work out.
No call issues with either of my devices.
My oddity is that I can only get LTE on band 4. I get no lte signal on any other channel, even though we have band 12 expansion.

i just upgraded mine to Oreo and now i have this problem where the other party that calls me cant hear me, oddly enough it only happens when my wife calls and she has a Galaxy S7. when my daughter calls me from her iphone its fine
but....the issue is with VoLTE. if you turn that off, then no problem...at least for me
T-Mobile Moto Z2 Force Oreo no Volte
This is a software issue Android 8.0.0 on the Moto Z2 Force. When I call my sister with a Samsung Galaxy S7 she can't hear me from my end of the call. I've had 4 replaced devices and still the same problem. I've made several complaints and it's being ignored people I'm definitely getting frustrated please report this.
This is a problem in Oreo and VoLTE. Perhaps that is why Oreo OTA was pulled. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen. Wait for a patch.
Lots of issues
Bullitt I have had 4 phones since 10/31/2017. First I was told a glitch in system caused by combining my bills. Then it was a speaker problem. Then a glitch again and now back to speaker. I just received my 4th phone. I'm still not sure if either are the problem but I do know it's annoying and inconvenient changing my info over again and again
VoLTE

I have posted on the T-Mobile support forums, Reddit, Lenovo support forums, I have called T-Mobile support, chatted with T-Force on Twitter, and tweeted to Neville Ray about this. T-Mobile is saying that updates are up to the manufacturer. Hopefully Lenovo is fixing this.

Wow, thought I was the only one!
Only happens randomly with S7 users for me too.
Same problem when call a galaxy s7 edge of T-Mobile
I was having issues with my Moto Z2 related to Digits and I couldn't talk to my daughter because she couldn't hear me on her Galaxy S7 Edge. I totally got screwed but "upgraded" back to the S7 Edge like I had before and that was almost paid off. When I got my refurbished S7 Edge, now my husband, who still has the Moto Z2, can hear me but I can't hear him on my S7 Edge! It may be on the manufacturer to produce the update, but T-Mobile is the one who sold the phones to us. Paying now for service and phones that we can't use. It's absolutely ridiculous. I'm messaging T-Mobile over Twitter right now. If there isn't a solution, I'll be contacting our state attorney general to complain about them selling a product that isn't working.
I haven't had any call issues, but I don't know if I've called an s7 edge. Sounds like it could be a Sammy issue too.

I'm sure it was you who posted on the T-Mobile support forums earlier. I have spent hours with T-Force on Twitter etc. And was told what they told you - updates come from the manufacturer. However I believe that T-Mobile should be pressuring Lenovo to get this fixed ASAP. How long can it take to fix a problem that was just introduced? They could issue an update with the prior radio firmware and solve the problem. Z2 Force would still have Oreo, but the Nougat radio firmware.
Odd, I have Sprint variant and I have two friends with an S7 edge. One on Verizon and another on TMobile. I have had no issues hearing either one of them. Has to be an issue with T-Mobile only variant.

S9 - Problems with Calls?

Hi.
I've got my S9 a week ago and I'm quite disappointed with the problems I'm having when I make or receive phone calls.
I would say that easily 60 or 70% of those calls I had problems in the middle of them because I couldn't ear the other party, although I could be heard.
Does anyone had similares issues?
Any solution to solve them?

I have reports from 2 users who have calls that drop for 3-4 seconds and the reconnect on a regular basis. Vodafone UK. Tried new SIM but that has not fixed it.
No issues with TMo in Fl.
Same problem. Dual sim version. When on a call the line goes silent for 4 or 5 seconds! Using a Three and Vodafone sim in the UK.
No problems so far using it with TMO in Puerto Rico.

Report it to samsung the more that report the issue the sooner it should get fixed
On a portuguese forum, several people reported the same problem I have.
During a call, the phone stops transmitting any sound for the other party for about 10 seconds...
People listen to me perfectly during that time, but I cannot ear anything. After those seconds, the phone call gets normal...
It's driving me mad!
Can confirm the above comment, a ton of portuguese people are complaining about this
s9+ call issue
my s9+ have call issue during the call too . (dual sim)
Samsung S9 problems during calls
Had my S9 64GB since 3rd march in the UK on EE and I have the same problem with periods of silence during calls, it is driving me mad as well. I have done the contact us on the phone where you upload a system log as soon as the fault occurs but so far I have had nothing back from Samsung regarding this issue. I also had a problem initially with the fingerprint sensor where it kept locking out but since I disabled the fingerprint gestures on the phone that seems to work fine now for lock screen.
I think the problem was reported also on Pocketnow Daily.
PS: I don't have this problem.

Same here with dual sim in Spain (tried with different sim from different companies).
Drop calls or simple silence
Got the Samsung galaxy s9 for the last 2 weeks intermittent problems with calls. When making calls for the first 20secs it just goes silent the other person can hear me but I cannot hear them. Sometimes this also happens mid call too, whereby after about 5 mins or so... It goes completely silent for 30secs and eventually either cuts me off or the call returns... Called Samsung UK not much help, obviously there is a fault somewhere , but for now Samsung are hiding.

It’s nothing todo with volte as my handset didn’t have it enabled
Had the same problem with my S9 dual sim. Tried just using a single sim but problem persists. I contacted Samsung who were less than helpful. Denied they have any reports of this issue even though I told them about online forums reporting same issue. I have sent my phone back to Samsung who will send me a new replacement once they receive my phone back for inspection. I'm now worried that even a new S9 will have the exact same issue.
I'd rather Samsung just say they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. It bugs me when they act like there's no issue. They wanted me to factory reset the phone to which I told them I'd only had the phone a week and spent a whole day setting.
Just gotta wait for the replacement phone now and hope they fix with a software update. They did offer a refund but I really want the phone (if I can make calls on it that is!)
The same issue with my 2 s9 plus phones. One sim version, Israel. Just hope that the problem is with soft and gonna be fixed with next update.
Today I went into a Samsung official suport centre and I was told exactly the same...they do not have any knowledge of problems regarding phone calls and S9.
They ran a series of tests concerning the phone's sensors and the test resulted that everything seemed OK.
But...it's not!
And I'm mad about this. Honestly I do not know if this is simply a software issue...
Ffs sake I've only used the phone for calls twice and both times the call just ended and I had to ring them back.
