WiFi calling on T-Mobile? - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

I'm looking into getting a MZP but have heard stories of WiFi calling is not possible on T-Mobile due to not not being a carrier phone. Anyone have a MZP that can confirm?

The Moto Z Play has WiFi calling capability, just not with T-mobile. I can confirm that. Maybe it'll change with a future update? Not sure. I will say that I spoke to both Motorola (who blamed T-mobile) then T-mobile (who blamed Motorola, then tried to sell me one of their phones) and got no where.

Not on T-mobile in the US.
I've seen some people who say it does and some who say it doesnt. I have AT&T and no VoLTE, but it might not be enabled with my carrier yet (I just opened the account less than one month ago).
I have the Verizon version and I don't get wifi calling or VOLTE.
Doesn't bother me as I'm always best wifi.

So VOLTE AND WIFI CALLING doesn't work at all on the unlocked version? That sucks

Not for T-mobile. I called T-mobile and they blamed Motorola. I called Motorola and they blamed T-mobile. Maybe WiFi calling in a future update. I have my "enhanced calling via LTE" setting checked but haven't seen the VoLTE icon ever pop up. I've always had volte on my other phones. So I know it's available in my area.
VoLTE should work on T-Mobile. Both the unlocked MOTO Z and MOTO Z Play have been certified by T-Mobile. You won't see a VoLTE icon in the menu. However you can check it by making a phone call and if the phone stays on LTE you know its working. VoLTE probably will not work on the Verizon version of the phone but only on the unlocked model.

Nope. No WiFi calling. I confirmed with both T-mobile and Motorola. Plus if you Google it, there's an article confirming Motorola is not supporting wifi calling on T-mobile.

You would think that Motorola would see it in their interest to support wifi calling on T-Mobile. It would certainly make the MOTO Z more attractive to T-Mobile users. Other unlocked phones from Google, Samsung, Apple, and HTC support both VoLTE and wifi calling on T-Mobile. In spite of this Motorola shows no interest in supporting this.
Volte on tmobile yes no Wi-Fi caling
I am a windows 10 mobile user on AT&T, and know that the device itself has a lot to do with VoLTE being active. What on the Moto Z Play enables/provisions/or is missing for VoLTE/Enhanced LTE to function (files\binaries\etc..). VoWiFi is seperate from VoLTE I thought...correct?
I ask since I recently purchased one of these to have an Android around the house too.

Exynos S9- can I use on AT&T in the U.S.?

Hey, a strange turn of events...I recently asked if I could use this on Verizon, and the answer was "no". But I just learned I'll be switching (against my will) to AT&T very soon.
So if I get an Exynos S9 in hopeful anticipation of dual-freq GPS being unlocked at some point, will it work on AT&T in the US? It's gotta be a stock ROM, as it's a work-managed phone...
Thanks again!
Yes, it will work but no VoLTE, WiFi Calling and carrier aggregation.

Anyone running AT&T-branded G8 on T-mobile (and/or the US unlocked LMG820QM7 version)

I've had a week and a half long headache wrestingly with two Sprint-branded (LM-G820UM) handsets and I've had enough.
(Quick explanation... No wi-fi call support which I could live with, but no VoLTE was a deal breaker only because in my house for some reason UTMS 3G is either spotty or the radio just doesn't switch back and forth effectively. The Sprint baked ROM is a pain.)
At any rate, I'm looking at unlocked T-Mo, AT&T and general US unlocked (LMG820QM7) units around the web and just wondering what the experiences are with those. VoLTE would fix my problem. Wi-fi calling successful provisioning would be gravy (actually that would solve the problem as well in my house, but suspect the latter would likely come hand-in-hand with the former).
Cheers in advance. I needs a working phone order asap!

Will my G7 ThinQ really stop working in January?

First of all let me say that before u answer this question I have about as much knowledge on this as a 75yo grandmother, so please keep it extra simple. Most of what I read on these forums might as well be Greek. I have an LG G7 ThinQ. More specifically the G710VMX. I purchased it unlocked and brought it to Tracfone, yes I use Tracfone. It worked with the original SIM card I had from another phone until it didn't, that's when the issues began. Bought a 3 pack VZW, T-Mobile, AT&T sim kit intending to use VZW because has the best service in rural areas. That sim would not work so ended up with T-Mobile sim and bad service. Assumed the phone was GSM only so I suffered. Then I tried to put in an AT&T sim to see if that would give better service and it's GSM so I thought it would work, well it doesn't. Somehow this is only compatible with T-Mobile and US Cellular which is CDMA(? since I assumed phone GSM only). Now Tracfone and T-Mobile reps both are telling me that once they switch to VoLTE the phone will no longer work, I will need a new phone. How is that possible?? I love this phone and hace read that it is capable of operating in VoLTE but the setting to turn it on is not there. And all other networks when given my IMEI tell me it's not compatible. HELP ME PLEASE, I can't afford, nor do I want, a new phone right now.

time will tell, you know just use your phone as long as it's still working. don't let marketing fool you
Well, the other issue is that I need to get it away from Tracfone T-Mobile because their service is terrible in my area. I can't seem to get either a Tracfone AT&T or Tracfone Verizon SIM to work yet the phone is compatible (according to the websites respectively) with Cricket wireless (AT&T) and US Cellular (cdma). I don't understand... That is why I brought this question to all of you. I live and work in a rural area and it may sound crazy but all I want to do is make stinking phone calls.

Z2 force 2 models (Verizon, Sprint) and AT&T's upcoming 3G apocalypses

With AT&T shutting down it's 3G network in about 3 months (and t-mobile in 8 or 9) I was hoping I could get some feedback on getting AT&T's voLTE version (HD Voice) to work on the sprint and/or verizon Z2 force.
With the sprint/XT1789-03 Z2 force and an AT&T sim I do get the option for enhanced LTE services, but when calling LTE drops down to 3G for voice.
If I recall correctly when I tried to get AT&T service with voLTE on a Verizon/XT1789-01 there was no option for enhance LTE services on the stock rom (9/pie).
I did score a really nice AT&T/XT1789-04 pretty cheap, and of course it's voLTE/HD voice works fine on a AT&T sim, but I'd like to have the flexibility of using it on my other carrier branded Z2s.
Anyone else have any luck, seeing how the deadline will be here in a few months?
I appologize ahead of time if I missed this in my XDA searches, I tried to be thorough (I did find the sprint model with t-mobile hybrid flash but nothing conclusive for AT&T).
Thank you.
