I purchase a 1+3 a week ago. I have everything setup has i wanne but my concern if the phone goes into bootloop or something goes wrong. Would u think im ok woth a locm bootloader or unlock bootloader is a must
Unlocking bootloader is only necessary if you want/need root and other modifications. If you're satisfied with the phone in its current state and only plan to use official ROMs, you don't need to unlock it.
Bootloops an similar issues are very rare on unmodified devices, no need to worry about this.
Besides, you can always factory reset or sideload stock ROM even with locked bootloader and stock recovery.

From day 1 i wanted to root my nexus, i haven't just encase bugs and stuff. Is root worth risking warranty right now?
You can always flash back to stock and lock the bootloader if rooting didn't appeal to you.

Also, rooting and adding ROMs can fix any potential bugs that your phone might have.
And, the sooner you unlock your bootloader, in order to root, the better because unlocking the bootloader erases all your memory. After that, you can back up everything and its all good.
I heard apple has a way to check if you ever jail broke something, it's a possibility that android phones have that too right? Sooooo just locking the bootloader and taking to stock might not get you a new phone right? Or have people not had any problems about returning a previously rooted phone?

i dont think they can see if you rooted your phone. but if you unroot, and lock the bootloader, you will be fine.
I unlocked my bootloader several months ago, but now my SIM card readers (both of them) have gone out. I have no idea how, no water damage or anything like that has happened. They just stopped working. So I went complete stock firmware, locked bootloader, everything but I am still unable to take OTA updates like a new phone would be able to. I think this is because they banned my device from OTAs which I believe they do if you have messed with the device. I need to RMA my device so my question is would it be better to say that I didn't tamper with the device and run the risk of them finding out I did, which is pretty likely seeing as how my device has been banned from OTA updates, or tell them that I did unlock it and all of that but that I have relocked it and I am back to stock? If any of you have had a similar issue how did ASUS handle that? Thanks!

Since I am a new user I cannot post links. But Google "Zenfone 2 bootloader unlock" and I followed the instructions of Grekky's Blog.
there is no such thing as relocking the bootloader. only thing you can do it flash the stock image to make it look stock (since an unlocked bootloader has a white splash screen) but im sure asus knows of this and will still check and see that the bootloader is indeed unlocked and not warranty it.
This is just something we all accepted as a consequence of unlocking our bootloaders. hell i have a screen thats getting worse and worse with a yellow/brownish line coming from the top of the phone, but alas i have an unlocked phone too.
You can replace the white splash screen by flashing a black splash screen image to try and cover up unlocking your bootloader. http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/themes-apps/551-black-white-splashscreen-twrp-flash-t3141945 . If the reseller has no clue about custom recoveries and trying to flash a rom you'll be safe.
They fixed it, no questions asked. And yes, I was able to relock the bootloader.
I had a Nexus 5X with stock Android 6 software. Android Pay was working fine.
I was having a few lag issues and noticed the final Nexus factory image was available for Android 7 so I decided to unlock my bootloader and install the factory image. After I installed it, Android Pay was still working fine.
Then I received an OTA update for the monthly security hotfixes which I installed. Since doing this, Android Pay doesn't work. It says something about my phone being rooted/unlocked and that Android Pay does not support this.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I don't need to keep my bootloader unlocked so if locking will allow me to resolve the issue without losing data then I can do this. Can anyone guide me please?
Try flashing a kernel from The Flash or Franco.
Both have a line of code that should stop the bootloader error in safetynet

You can use something like wugs nexus tool.
Although some have mentioned you can brick your device trying to lock the bootloader.
Personally I have never done it. Others might have more experience.
It may or may not be easier to lock than to use a custom kernel. YMMV.
One benefit of the kernel is increased performance on your phone.
Oh and if you lock your bootloader it will completely wipe your phone. E.g. You will lose your data.
Edit.. Root isn't needed for a kernel either
Start the device in fastboot mode again, as described above.
Execute:
fastboot flashing lock
or, for older devices, run:
fastboot oem lock
Locking bootloader will wipe the data on some devices. After locking the bootloader, if you want to flash the device again, you must run fastboot oem unlock again, which will wipe the data.

Ah okay, thanks for the info. What I should have done originally was re-lock the bootloader straight after I flashed the ROM. Unfortunately, I setup the device after flashing the ROM and kept the bootloader unlocked which is why I'm stuck right now. Okay, time to backup my stuff up and re-lock the bootloader. Yeah, it's locked with a TWRP on it.
Now the data partition is unencrypted. I want to upgrade the bootloader, but it says it should be first unlocked.
Will unlocking cause destruction to all my data? If so, can I upgrade the bootloader?
P.S. My data is 20GB. I don't want to make a backup at the moment, if not necessary.
First of all: Yes, unlocking your bootloader will erase your data. Make a backup before you do.
Second of all: Is there a reason you want to do this? Your phone should continue to work fine if you're not on the newest bootloader or radio. Over the course of a year, I had updated mine from 6.0.1 to 7.0 to 7.1 without ever updating the bootloader and radio. It will work fine with an older version.
Third of all: As a curiosity, you have TWRP installed to the /recovery, but will it actually boot TWRP with the locked bootloader? I didn't think it would...

I believe so. Instead of Pwr+VolDown to get into the bootloader, you can do Pwr+VolUp to get into recovery, and I think you can sideload the stock firmware. Don't quote me on that, tho, as I could be mistaken. Never had to do it myself, as I've always been unlocked and used Fastboot.
You may run into problems if you need to flash the factory images as you'd have to unlock the bootloader first so if there were any problems and you were unable to unlock it, you would not be able to flash them. My advice would be to unlock it and leave it that way as long as your device is modified.

It's been a long time (3 years) since I had a device that I'd been able to root and I wanted to make sure I'm ready to do it on my UK 7T whenever a solution becomes available (I've checked here and it seems a bit hit and miss at the moment). In order to get my device prepped should I just unlock the bootloader and wait for someone to get TWRP and Magisk working? Basically, I want to avoid losing all my stuff in x weeks time when the process becomes safer/simpler and from memory I think unlocking the bootloader causes everything on the device to be wiped.
TLDR
2 real questions:
Does the process of rooting the device wipe it, or does that only happen when unlocking the bootloader?
If I unlock the bootloader when I first get the device, will this be me prepped for rooting later on without losing all of my data?

If you're not going to install a custom Rom, you're prepared for root without losing your data. I did it too yesterday when my 7T arrived, right after update oxygenos.

I can't see myself moving from OOS, I just want root. So you're saying if I unlock bootloader from the off I'll be good for rooting in the future?

I'm changing from an iPhone 7+ to Oneplus 7T and got it yesterday. Why you don't make a backup when it's time for root? So far I can't see Custom ROMs or a working TWRP for the Oneplus 7T.

Yes, i lost data when unlocking the bootloader but then it was okay while rooting. I think you should unlock the bootloader and root as soon as you get the phone, but after updating to latest 10.0.4 version
Unlocked Bootloader / no Magisk Hide
Consider that apps like GooglePay or other apps will refuse working since they detect the unlocked bootloader state as possible security leak. GPay says, that due unlocked bootloader it does not want to initialze it.
So after facing this problems I would recommend, since magisk is limited to patching the actual boot.img, to stay on locked bootloader and unlock it after a secure method exists to install magisk and maybe TWRP. Otherwise, if you donot use these kind of apps, you can stay with unlocked BL.
