Hi Guys,
I know there are similar threads, BUT the ONE X does have a very special camera, and I was wondering if anybody has had any luck with any specific Camera Apps yet?
Here are a few that I've tried so far, but nothing too special to be honest:
1. Camera 360
2. Paper Camera
3. Stock Camera App
So far Camera 360 is probably the best, but I've heard good things about Camera FV-5 and Camera Zoom FX?
When you say camera 360 is probaly the best, in what way?
Lower compression would be great, but I wonder how much the imagesense chip will restrict this and can third party camera apps bypass this process. I have tried camera fv-5 and there does seem to be a little less compression, which allows for slightly more detail, also you can save in png, but there is no zoom function.
All third party apps bypass ImageSense. I love Camera360. Way less compression, and the available filters are pretty cool too, better than Instagram~
I use now Camera ICS.
This one can disable the compression (at least it says so) and indeed the files get much bigger (100% in jpeg mode instead of 90 or 95%)
And since it still is JPG, you still can use the EXIF info.
I tried some others, but they did miss options or did also compress or the lighting was worse, or .......
I've tried a lot of 3rd party camera apps and, honestly, I find the stock HTC app to be the best.
Camera FV-5 is very good though.
Camera360 was great until some background process started to overheat My HOX, and I uninstalled it..

Stock HTC app has the best UI, but the worst image quality.

Ive just been using stock ive had no problems with it
Stock is better than camera zoom fx, that thing may have bigger files but it is grainy in low light and over exposed everywhere else (unless you like that).
I can get better pictures using stock and the opening gallery and clicking that edit button.
If you click edit > effects then edit at the top you can manually edit all the filtering

The thing about the camera apps is that you can control exposure way more than you can with the stock app. If you were serious about taking pictures on the HOX, you'd be fiddling with every setting there is Stock camera definitely has the better metering, but I still believe that image quality wise, there's still way too much compression. I'll try to do a comparison some day.
Im not one for fancy OP so lest cut to the chase. I have been working on this on and off for some time now and i am at a point i feel i can call it ALPHA. This should only be flashed on KK or L GPE or pure AOSP. CM will have to be done differently they did some strange things to HW keys that makes camera not work at all.

What needs some work?
Zoe camera wont open. ( if you choose Zoe options you will need to go to settings > apps > Camera and clear data to make it stop)
Camcorder (rotates the video when saving and cause the video to glitch)
Please have a valid Nandroid in case you want to go back. At a later date i can make an uninstall zip.

i cleaned up the zip and packaged gallery with the camera. it also comes with Zoe the social network. if people dont want it i can remove.
Looks like there will be a tiny issue with L vs KK. Im going to need to set up a zip for both until HTC updates Camera to API19

Thus should work. Open gallery first then use the camera to open gallery.
Does slow motion video work in this camera? If not anyone know of a way to record slomo on stock lollipop, santods build if that matters?

video still needs to be worked on. the camcorder saves the video all wrong and cause video tearing.

I tried this a few times but still wont open through camera. It starts to then just goes back to camera
@synisterwolf ... When recording video it only records in mms resolution from main camera. Not 1080p like it should.
When I had my HTC the only thing that kept me o 4.0 was the camera..this is a dream come true

So for a few months now Ive been searching xda high and low for this, whAt I'm looking for is the htc camera apk that has all the normal features, as well as Raw AND ZOE camera options on it.
I've been able to find 1 or the other (camera w/raw but no zoe, or camera w/zoe but no raw)...
Could anybody please point me in the direction of where to find the camera with BOTH options? Whether it be a mod, apk, or even a Rom with this???
Again, it would be much appreciated, Ive searched high n low....

stock camera app has raw feature, and ZOE will work if youz have the app installed. or do you mean you want to have raw while using zoe?

I mean just the camera app where I can select between camera, split capture, photo booth, panorama, bokeh, Zoe, Raw... 1 that has ALL the modes enabled... I've been able to have a version that includes Raw, but not Zoe mode, or Has Zoe mode, but no Raw.. I'd like 1 that has the option to select between ALL the different modes ...
Ohh well jist download it from playstore if not let me check kf i can get the apk

Wrong. It is there , but not in the cam app. Just install Zoe app from play store, works fine like earlier from cam app

I've noticed something though . In system/customize/acc/default xml, if under the camera options, u change feature version from 8718 to 13414, it gets rid of Raw camera and gives u zoe camera available in the camera app.. There's gotta be a way to tweak this to get BOTH available

OK that got me thinking... I've been trying to get the crop-me-in feature back on m8. So I changed that number to 5202 (desire eye) and got it in my camera but lost Zoe... There gotta be a way to get all though...
Edit for science: I changed it to 8718 on my m8 now I can see raw in my camera app but it crashes the camera when processing

Yes there are no libs for raw on m8... Since I'm not that into coding such stuff I couldn't get both working together...

I can't see Zoe mode on m9 whatsoever !!!!! M9 doesn't have Zoe feature ! I know I can download it but it will only work a gimmicky mixer , not like m7 and m8 where it could pull 20 full frame pix with 3 seconds highlight video .... If there's anyway we could activate it on m9 it would be great as I used to use it ALOT

If you're rooted, try changing feature version to 13414 in system/customize/acc/default XML, look for where it says camera, and I believe there's a string that says feature version: I think it's 8718, try changing to 13414 ... That gets rid of RAW, but brings back Zoe camera in the camera on latest camera 7.30 ... To get rid of Zoe and bring back RAW, change back to 8718
i have camera with raw (updated from playstore) and zoe updated from playstore as well, these 2 apss do not come together, you have to install/update separately one by one...personally i dont like zoe but if you do want both i dont see the problem at all, but you will never get camra and zoe app together ok? =D

I don't think u quite understand what I'm talking about- NOT the Zoe app, but the ZOE CAMERA ENABLED IN CAMERA AS I NOW HAVE IT, see screenshot attached. So yes , u CAN get them together, OK?

As u can see, it IS QUITE possible. The only tricky part not done yet is getting both Zoe camera and Raw mode both enabled at the same time to switch between in the camera app. You can have RAW with ZOE camera disabled, or ZOE with RAW disabled. What I'm trying to accomplish is modding the apk to have ALL modes enabled and selectable at the same time

Is this your 1st HTC phone? As most veteran HTC modders / users know that ever since HTC 1st released the concept of ZOE, htcs camera app always included a ZOE CAMERA MODE built into the camera app, NOT the Zoe APP. it wasn't until just recently that they started removing it from the camera for specific models....

i think there is no possibility for ZOE plus RAW together in camera app... RAW only works for "normal" photos where ZOE is also meant for Videos...therefore you can't use both together...and even if i think the app would force close
All he meant is we want to use Zoe but if he modddd the xml file Raw will be disabled, he doesn't mean to use Zoe and capture it as raw format ,, ALL WE NEED IS ZOE ENABLED PLUS RAW SHOOTING MODE ENABLED not Raw Zoe capture

Exactly this.... I'm not trying to capture a Zoe in Raw format or anything like that, all I want is in the camera app, to have the ability to choose between all the different modes without having to MOD the default XML, (Raw, Zoe, Bokeh, Photobooth, split capture, Selfie, Camera,) ... To be able to pick between all the different modes without reboot.
I have sense camera working fine in candy rom, I can download Zoe from the play store but when it opens u get an error, is there any way to get it working?
Pretty sure it relies on the Sense framework, no?
Do u have raw mode enabled in the camera as well???

Yes and no, it shows in the options, it allows you to see it and view Raw/ manual through the camera but on taking a pic it closes bad times.

I'd read that it was available on the play store, also that people had got it working but I got that error, not the end of the world.

If whAt youre trying to do is enable the zoe camera in the htc camera app, here's whAt I know . It's disabled in camera app by default on m9, however, if you go to system/customize/acc/default.xml, under the camera section, find the string that says "can enable zoe"- change from false to true.. however that by itself doesnt work , then find the string that says "features version" I believe on the m9 it says 8718- Change that to 13414 then reboot. Go into camera app, zoe camera is now enabled and selectable- However, now Raw camera has disappeared and isn't selectable.. I'm currently workingto find a modded camera.apk that has all camera modes selectable (Raw, Zoe, Bokeh, Photobooth, split capture, selfie, ) etc...

Cheers mate, but even the app won't load it up so not sure if it'll work or not.. Will keep that in mind though.
Not a big fan of Google photos app. And I really miss the old AOSP gallery app. Seen a few apks on XDA, but none seem to have a functional photo editor. Anybody else in the same boat? Would love to hear some ideas.
I've been trying Piktures. Pretty nice so far. Has an combined photo mode for people who like that all in one photo gallery like iPhones, and can also swipe to get to individual folders like all other androids. Also has a hidden photo feature for those who need to creep, lol.
I'm not sure what you're looking for when you say a functional photo editor, but I use Focus as an alternative to photos.

What I meant is that there are some apks floating around XDA for AOSP gallery app (on older Android versions) and when you try and edit a photo with it, the app crashes. I'll check out your suggestion
Following. I hate the Photos app. I use Dropbox and have my camera uploads go there. I don't need cloud storage, and the interface is poor imo. I use Snapseed to edit photos right now, but would like a gallery app that has simple functions (crop, basic color and brightness changes, etc.).

I also used to use Piktures and liked it a lot. I've recently grown to like using the Photos app though...

I keep wanting to like it, but it's just so busy looking. I wish there were a more simplified version.
I've always been a fan of Motorola gallery. I usually just save an apk in my Google drive and install it when I root/get a new phone. Only crappy Part is after you take a picture and click the thumbnail while still in the camera app, it default opens in Google photos.

I love the Photos app. The built in editor is pretty good and you can't beat the unlimited cloud storage. With that said, my second fave gallery app is QuickPic.
Google Photos has been my go to for a long time and does well everything I need.
Only thing I don't like about Photos is easily organising the photos. I have say my "Instagram" (device folder), backup to Photos. However then I have to create an album called "Instagram" and sort through the huge list of pictures to move them to their respective folders.

ez pz lemon squeezy. No ads & lots of customization, active developers...
I hate the new Google photos app too, and don't like the sync. I signed out of the app in the settings and it's just like the old gallery
