Speakerphone (loudness, clarity) - OnePlus 3T Real Life Review

Average. I find it lacking in vehicle at speed. I would think that in the year 2016 (almost 2017) that high volume would be an option on all devices

Same like iPhone , I got iPhone 6s plus and sound the same but one plus 3 you can go further +20 % but it will distort the sound , if you wish to sound like iPhone 6s plus go on oneplus 3t to 80-85% and it will be equal .

Anyone knows how does it compares with LG G5 speaker?
Enviado de meu LG-H850 usando Tapatalk

My speaker can go very very loud. I was surprised since I come from a phone with dual front-facing speakers (MotoG2) and expected the sound on the 3T to be quieter with the bottom facing solo speaker.

Anyone used a Oneplus 2 and can compare the speaker with that? I found the speaker on oneplus 2 fairly low. Thanks

IMO the oneplus 2 was louder

Didn't use the OP2 but I did put the OPO side by side to both the original 3 and the 3T and the 3/3T were appreciably louder and without distortion (the two's speakers were identical).
I cannot possibly imagine wanting it to be any louder than that.
Clarity and audio fidelity, it's ok, not bad by any stretch of the word but certainly not exceptional.
Works great for hearing it ring and for the notifications and it's perfectly fine for playing games on the phone but it wouldn't be my preferred choice for listening to music.
IMHO the OPO's two speakers worked better for that, even if they were monaural.

Sound is louder than on Nexus 6P but is a little bit shallow. Overall not bad at all. I think it is even better than my note 7
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk

I have a strong noise at low volume!

Im kind of disappointed with the speaker.
Not that i expected much, im just using it to watch videos sometimes.
But its much worse then the speaker on my OPO, meaning that the OPO was much clearer and sounded more powerful with the same loudness.
Im tweaking the speakers usually with viper

I saw video compare speaker a while back on youtube. The result was the G5 / Op3/t/Nexus6P/Htc10 (clear but not loud)/Samsung 7/edge.
I think it was youtube by Jerome Otega you can check it out.
I have G4 it's quite good sound with loudness and LeEco Pro3 have top and bottom speaker so it's like front facing speaker but volume a little low.
Maybe you can try app from playstore "Volume booster GOODDEV" try tweak 30-40% or 50 if it's not distort. This make my LePro3 louder to my satisfaction.

Stock speaker is pretty weak. I compare it to my Sony Z3 wich has stereo speakers. Sonys speakers was pretty good but lacked in loudness. OP3T it is loud enough but quality is very weak in higher volume. I also use Viper to improve quality. With Viper enabled speaker quality is ok.

It's loud but still somewhat tinny. However you can fix it by flashing A.R.I.S.E. Deuteronomy with Viper. The file replaces the audio driver with another; even without tinkering in Viper, the speaker gets one notch louder (quite literally one volume click louder) and the overall sound quality becomes fuller. This is what the phone's speaker should have been from the inception, so it's a 4 star for having me tinker around (fine by me but the review is on the stock phone, not after mods).

yes I strongly agree with above comment and yes speaker have loud noise

so, what is the best sound mod for op3t?
viper or viper+dolby atmos or any other mod?

Loud Noise Problem still with 4.0.3.

Compared to my previous device, HTC One m7, the sound from the speaker is terribly bad, maybe louder, but terribly bad.

The speakers are incredible! Surprised by how small and still powerful a speaker could be. At first look you are hoing to think "they probably suck!" but very soon you find out they are very bassy and clear
Much better than the Sony Z3 and surprisingly loud and clear.

OMG its so night and day. I used to have to embarrassingly ask people to speak up because my phone has volume issues. The G5 speakerphone and earpiece volume is refreshing. LOL
i'm glad they did not hop onto the water proof hype train.
even though you will hear some noise when you listen to stuff on max volume this speaker is performing insanely well.
sadly in gaming i tend to close the holes with my hand. i guess there will be upcoming modules that will boost the speaker even further.. keep in mind the speaker is part of the modules.
Very happy with the speaker as well. I'm surprised by how rich the sound is. This definitely isn't your average phone speaker.
Very happy with the speaker and speakerphone.
It vibrated in louder settings and made it feel very cheap I'm disappointed with LG with this! The whole chin chamber rattled. Volume and sound though was very good.
Its pretty good but at loud volume it does vibrate,
Sent from my LG-H850 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Love the phone, but it vibrates at high volume. It's a bit like holding a jar full of angry wasps.
However I've now put the phone in a bumper case, and it's much much better..
I didn't think my G5 would have such a great speaker, but man I was pleasantly surprised. The speaker is both loud AND clear.
Agreed, really loud and nice.
i come from z5c and i miss its sound. maybe less strong but my g5 above half volume bar does vibrate and thus generating a loud noise. maybe a fault with my magic slot?
The the quality rocks compared to my S7. Don't expect wonders but i was really surprised.
Even better with Viper4Android.
When using youtube, anything below 50% is hardly audible. Is it just me or others are also experiencing such problem?

Yeah i think thats true . But the phone gets really loud from step to step in the last volume steps . Loud enough . I compared it to my old Note 4 with Volume boost and it was noticable louder . So i am really satisfied .
One of the best single speakers in a phone.
Is it significantly louder than the Galaxy S7? How's it compare to the LG G4?
I went from an LG G4 (which has an amazing speaker) to the Galaxy S7 and everything about the phone has been a disappointment. I'm returning it and gonna get the LG G5. Does it have any bootloop issues? That's why I'm in this situation of choosing a new phone in the first place, and why I didn't go to straight to the G5. I dare say the G4 was better than this S7 (before it bootlooped...). Didn't realize Samsung took out the IR sensor or had such a **** speaker. Also didn't realize just how dependent I have become on having a removable battery. Speaker is important because I watch Netflix and Amazon Prime in bed with my fan on.
I barely use my loudspeaker but it already sounds blown out at 75% not happy at all.

Speaker is surprisingly loud, and at max volume, does not distort.
No distortion at maximum level what so ever, and it is quite loud. I can hear cleary while driving if I have music going through over the road noises. In my bedroom the quality is great, can hear my phone blasting from downstair.

That's great, most phones have distortion at max level. It seems huawei knew the sweet spot of speakers volume.
Speaker is not as good as the one in the Honor 7. Audio quality by headphone is awful.
It matters a lot if youre music maniac. I listen to music almost everytime. So its important to me that even if I play the song on speakers, it doesnt distort on high volumes.

Bass is so critical for me, but since I don't use loud speakers can you tell how is music through headphones?!
Thank you for your comments regarding the Honor 8's speakerphone. When you are playing back music or using the speakerphone, you can increase the volume by pressing the volume up button. Please try playing a loud ringtone to test whether there is a problem with the audio source. If there is, it is recommended that you change to a different music file then try again. If the problem persists after the steps detailed above, please back up important data and take the receipt issued with your phone to an authorized Huawei service center for repair or call into our customer service team at +1-844-524-6667 and they can try to help fix your issue with the speakerphones volume. We will forward your information to the product development team for them to review and analyze. We appreciate the feedback. (NS)
Clear sound from the speaker, loud enough too. I only use the speaker to listen to youtube clips so the lack of bass is really no problem, after all how can a small phone produce bass anyway....if i want better quality i just use my headphones.
Loud enough for me personally. I still haven't received B131 so I know that's went to improve quality, but it's no replacement for front firing speakers.
Basically, I'd advise you use proper speakers!
speakers get loud enough to listen to music in a big room

7/10
It's louder then the s7 edge for sure. I will put it up there with the iPhone 6s plus. Not as loud as the nexus 6p but it's good considering its waterproof.
I think it's almost exactly the same as my old note 5, it might distort a little more than my note 5 but it's louder at the highest setting. Dropping the volumne down 1 notch fixed the distortion
Here's a video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv_q5ebyILQ
Worse than my Note5 for sure. Less bass. I put them side by side snd streamed the same music. Quite disappointed. Also in thr phone appnthere no more sound 'boost'.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N930A using XDA-Developers mobile app
Agreed with above. Step down from my note 5. Notification sounds are distorted.
Better than my previous Note 4 that's for sure.
This could be more the placement of speaker (bottom, not back) but overall sounds much better to me.
I can go lower and louder with the note 7. A bit of distortion on the highest volume. Still better than the note 4.
Not that great. Sound is tinny like the device is underwater. Sound is definitely not as crisp as say a nexus 6p or a htc 10. It's disappointing, yet somehow passable.
To put it simply:
Its terrible, my note 4 sounds way better and the nexus 6P just kills it completely.
I expected it somewhat due to the waterproofing but a $1200 (Canadian) device should have a far better speaker than this.
I am debating returning it because it sounds so bad.
Sent from my SM-N930W8 using Tapatalk 2
It's the same issue as the S7's .. waterproofing makes the speaker sound like crap. Not much that can be done about that. Only time I use the external speaker is when I'm on conf. calls and to lazy to break out my ERA. The waterproofing is a much better feature in my opinion that blasting out folks around me.
All as well as to be expected from Waterproof

Owning the HTC M7 with Stereo Speakers then to the Xperia Ultra Z with Waterproof Mono Speaker.
I can clearly say that's it's a 8/10 for me. Loud, clear, not best sounding but kind of hard to achieve this through a sealed port.
Easy tradeoff any day, I use bluetooth speakers for this purpose. It's almost as loud as the HTC as max but way better sounding and volume length then the Xperia Ultra.
Haven't received mine yet, out of waterproofing it I still think that this choice of placement for speaker is VR headset sound direction related.
As everything is cluttered at the bottom might not be as good as my note 4 or else but I dont mind, bluetooth work i assume...
I'm coming from the M8, so I'm setting myself up for disappointment. However it's not that bad. the M8 was easily a 10/10, and this i'd say is about a 6 or a 7 in overall quality.
It needs to be louder, much louder. In a medium noise level environment I can barely hear the speakers when they're at full blast. The quality is pretty good when you can hear it though.
No aptX support...
Outside of wanting it to be just slightly louder, it is extremely crystal clear, sounds great, and is absolutely much better than most critics make it sound.
The speaker is not as good as my N4. The N4 was louder and being on the back it reflected off a hard surface better enhancing the sound/loudness even more. The N7 on the bottom is a downgrade IMHO. But it still isn't terrible. I gave it a 4 star rating. I have definitely had phones that were worse. The fact that this phone is waterproof makes up for the speaker being a little lower quality in sound than the N4 was. So overall still an upgrade IMHO.
Coming from a Nexus 6P, the Note 7's speaker is terrible.

Out of all the devices I have owned the note 7 has the worst speaker for sure.
Other than poor volume when watching you tube videos even ones recorded outside peoples voices sound like they are in a tin can...
Love everything else about the hardware but the speaker has no place on a flagship device of this level.

Very average for me. Not as loud as I would have hoped.
Still waiting for mine to come in (should be in Tuesday). Will compare it to my S6 and see what happens.
Average at best. My friend and I were playing Battlefield 1 last night and talking on speaker phone, he also has the Pixel, at times we could not hear each other very well. I actually think the speaker on the 5X was better....
I would have to agree that the speaker is average at best when it comes to call quality. My Galaxy S6 was louder. Though audio playback for non-calls seems to be a fair amount better than my S6.
Anyone having issues turning their speaker all the way up and when watching video get like a popping sound?

It's not the loudest I've heard but boy, compared to the 5X the 5X is a joke (I have both phones).
Sound is louder, deeper and more clear. Comparing to the 5X it's in a completely different level...
Used to have hands free conversations while driving with the phone in a cradle... but with the Pixel I can barely hear someone even with the volume at maximum. Not brilliant.
Better quality and clarity from the single speaker than I expected.

Yes, totally. If you've heard a blown speaker, it kind of sounds like that at the higher levels.
Can other people either confirm out deny this? I'm wondering if this is a "feature" or a defect.
Thanks.
I chat with support and they told me that it is an audio issue with the videos since the issue wasn't consistent. They said to factory reset my phone. I did that, played the same vdieo over and over and the issue is no longer there.

I only noticed it when I was using the speakerphone during a call. I had to factory reset it later for a different reason so I'll check on it tomorrow but it still sounds tinny as Hell. And I'm coming from a Droid Turbo 1st generation.
Very average speaker! Waiting for Root so we can do some audio modifications and make it atleast decent quality.
Yeah it isn't as loud as my Nexus 6P, nor is it front facing. Or a dual setup. But it isn't as bad as I'd feared. Still plenty loud and crisp.

I wanna eat my words and some humble pie too. The speakers are almost as loud as the 6P if not equally loud. The 6p has better dynamic range but I felt that in some tracks, the Pixel was crisper. It's really a toss up.
Add they're not front firing, I have no issue calling up assistant for time or weather when I'm in bed. Yes, I'm that guy who always places phones face down. The audio just pumps out the grill without any muffling whatsoever.

I haven't had enough time to test but mine seem to sound fine for what they are. Definitely not loud enough, but quality is on par to all the phones ive used minus an htc m9.
I actually prefer bottom speakers or speakers on the back for my particular use. I use my phones primarily for Google maps in my semi. I've used the sony z3 compact, htc m9, moto x, moto x 2nd gen, iphone 5s/6(s)/7., and oneplus 3
The best phone for audio i can actually hear while driving has been the 1st gen moto x. Sony, htc, snd 2nd gen moto x with front firing speakers are the worst. Iphone 6s better, iphone 7 best for iphones. One plus 3 probably in at #2 but they are not the best quality (more on the tinny side w/ lack of mid-low range).
I will have to compare the pixel next week.
Are there any mods yet for this? I would like my speakers to be loud as well coming from S7 Edge boy this speaker needs help! Anyone?

That's certainly odd. I did an EDM/Dubstep, standard voice, rock, and opera music test on the Pixel and Pixel XL compared to my Droid Turbo 2 and the iPhone 7 and 7+. This is what I came to:
-Pixel and Pixel XL are quite loud for a single/mono speaker setup, about equal in loudness to my Droid Turbo 2. All were quieter than the iPhone 7 and 7+, which is expected given their stereo/dual speaker setup.
-The iPhones possess a thin, metallic, tinny sound from both speakers, with a miniscule amount of bass or depth to the sound. The mids and highs were somewhat ear-piercing and overly sharp, and were overall not managed well. However, this is better than the S7 Edge from what I can tell, which sounded muffled, quiet, and tinny to me, when I watched a video on a Verizon display unit. However, I will have to do another test to truly give comparative results.
-The Pixels were quieter than the iPhones off the bat, which is to be expected, since they have mono speaker setups. But, the sound out of both of them was exactly as loud as my Turbo 2, and the Pixel's speakers have an impressive amount of depth. Bass was definitely present here, moreso than the Turbo 2, and the sound was not thin by any means. The mids and highs were present and did not sound tinny or not properly recognized by the speaker. However, the treble lacked the "wow" factor in comparison of the Turbo 2, whose treble was more crystalline and more alive, as well. Not that the Pixels sounded dead by any means, because their treble was also well represented and sound, at that high of frequencies, was not distorted, like it was a little bit with the iPhones, playing high-frequency sound (treble) in the soundtracks I used, but the highs and treble were more enhanced. So, it seems like the Pixel is better suited for bass and lower frequency sounds, whereas my Turbo 2 is better suited for treble and higher frequency sounds.
-In conclusion, the iPhones are OK in loudness for a dual-speaker setup, though their sound is thin, metallic and tinny, offering little to no depth of sound, especially compared to the Pixels, and not representing higher frequency sounds or voices properly, often falling apart in the treble compared to my Turbo 2. The Pixels are quieter than the iPhones, but offer the most depth of sound and bass of the three, and tie with the Turbo 2 for the least distortion of sound. Thehigher frequency sounds and the treble are present and well-represented with little distortion, but my Turbo 2 has a more crystalline, more alive upper register than the Pixel and especially the iPhone 7.
---------- Post added at 08:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:46 AM ----------
BTW in loudness, all three of the aforementioned smartphones are a joke compared to my 6P. In quality, however, the Pixel and my Turbo 2 come close to my 6P. The iPhone 7 gets decimated by my 6P though.
Low and bad quality
In call volume is definitely lower than my old Zuk Z2. Now I have to crank up the volume to max and still have a hard time in noisy locations. The speaker quality is acceptable. But I expected loud speakers when we are paying top dollar.
Overall, Pixel gives off an average phone vibe with overpriced price.

[Q] 5T Audio recording in loud environments (electronic concerts)

Hello guys,
Yesterday my Nokia 7 Plus arrived and i am overall pretty happy with it. However i am a bit disappointed that there is no 60FPS video recording and no way to unlock the bootloader yet.
Now i am thinking about switching to the One Plus 5T, but because video recording at concerts is a big point for me and my last phone, the one plus 3 had a really bad quality, i am wondering how the 5T is performing?
Yesterday i received a testvideo from a OnePlus 5 user and i must say i am not pretty happy with that kind of quality:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/bgeE8qdpTo805BBt1
When the bass kicks in, mostly every other part of the song is not recognizable. Does the OnePlus 5 uses the same microphones as the 5T?
What's your opinions switching from the Nokia 7 Plus to the 5T?
Thank you in advance
nobody?
Well for me the bass definitely is clipping at concerts. Nothing you can do but using a low cut. The bass at concerts is too loud anyway but I have to say that the iPhone makes better videos and has a higher audio quality at concerts.

Yeah, the bass at most concerts is too loud, but i heard a lot of devices (huawei, samsung, iphone) which had no problem recording in heavy bass environments.
Made a testvideo yesterday with my Nokia 7 Plus and i must say the audio quality is the best i've ever heard from a phone so far.
I am wondering if the active noise cancellation of the 5T destroys the sound quality, because the one plus 3 had the same issue.
