Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 7 (Nougat)?
A: Yes, this is Android 7.1.2
Q: What code is Oct-N based on?
A: This version of Oct-N is based on LineageOS 14.1
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But all the others have..
A: ROM developers, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-N.
Q: What about root?
A: Root is removed by default (user will be able to flash which ever root zip they want)
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.
ADB Logcat tutorial here: How to create a logcat log
Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favorite Open Gapps package http://opengapps.org
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
The Oct-N ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your Gapps Provider. When dirty flashing weekly updates, you MUST reflash Gapps along with any other files, apps, custom mods or kernels etc.. (anything that resides in system partition)
Flash ROM, GApps and any additional .ZIP files
Reboot

Rules for inquiring a subject matter concerning this project are:
1. Read the OP fully.
2. For bug reports, we need a log to assess the issue. Capture a log while replicating the issue.
3. Do not ask ETA's on updates; you will be ignored.
4. Use the "search this thread" feature to make sure your question wasn't already answered by using key words.
5. Only ask a question about this project. Any questions about another ROM or project will be disregarded.
6. You don't like our OctOS symbol. Too bad.
7. You want 100% untouched/unmodified AOSP. This isn't the ROM for you.

A Note about the Team OctOs GApps
We in Team OctOs believe in choices. We believe in leaving the fundamental decisions about your phone to you.
In that spirit, Team OctOs gives you options for your GApps experiences. While any ODEX'ed GApps package should work, we offer you the choice of using some of the same GApps packages that we use ourselves, and leave the choice up to you.
You can find our Team OctOs GApps packages here, and break down into the following types:
GPe - Google Experience
Regular GPe GApps
Dalvik-Enhanced GPe GApps
AOSP
AOSP GApps
Dalvik-Enhanced AOSP GApps
The Dalvik-Enhanced packages are NOT ART compatible. If you plan to run ART, don't use those.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 6 (MarshMallow)?
A: Yes, this is Android 6.0.1
Q: What code is Oct-MM based on?
A: Starting with Oct-MM, we've rebased OctOs on the CyanogenMod 13 code. Modified to give you a smoother more stable rom.
We like to Strive on being closest to AOSP as possible but also being able to support multiple devices.
Q: What happened to AOSP?
A: All Android code is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Under previous releases, we tried very hard to limit the number of "Not from Google directly" repositories that we used. Unfortunately, issues with devices, the need for Code Aurora Foundation (CAF) repositories for Qualcomm devices, and compatibility issues meant fighting code more often than not. We decided that since the code-base for many repositories were the same across most ROMs, picking a starting point to build the user experience on outweighed the desire to craft code from scratch, or fix broken code to make it work with other changes we already had.
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature.
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But XYZ and all the others have..
A: ROM developers build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-MM.
Q: Superuser or SuperSU?
A: Team OctOs uses SuperSU and is installed automatically.

(I have the sprint spark SPH-L710T) The only problems I have are is that it says I'm on boost but I'm really on sprint (prob not a problem idk), the camera can't connect, and the rotation is wrong. IDK if the network is actually working though since I need to refill. Great rom though! Thanks

OK are you boost virgin or sprint. And if you are sprint is your phone the L710T. Me and the team have been talking about the spark s3 this morning. And the camera is know about so no need to mention a bug that has been posted.

I have the SPH-L710T Sprint. This rom is great. The only bugs I've found is backwards rotation and IDK if 4G and Data works. I checked and it is set to LTE and I have a signal so I think it works. Thx for your speedy response.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 5 (Lollipop)?
A: Yes, this is Android 5.1.x
Q: What code is Oct-L based on?
A: Starting with Oct-L, we've rebased OctOs on the CyanogenMod 12.1 code.
Q: Why isn't there XXXXXXX feature.
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But CM and all the others have..
A: ROM developers, including CM, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-L.
Q: Superuser or SuperSU?
A: Team OctOs uses SuperSU and is installed automatically.
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favourite Android 5 based GApps package
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
Factory Reset from TWRP
Flash ROM and GApps .ZIP files
Reboot
The Oct-L ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /data/dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your GApps Provider
The foundation of the Android OS is the fact that is it open-source. We have all code we use internally in the creation of Oct-L available on our GitHub repositories.
Unless otherwise specified, all Oct-L builds use the device's stock CyanogenMod 12.1 kernel.

Gotcha, just wanted to make sure you knew. Well, the Rom is running near flawlessly, I'm running it on my International S4. The only issue I've found is that it's a tad sluggish when waking the phone from sleep as it takes nearly a whole 2 seconds to show the lock screen. I know that doesn't sound like a long time but it is. Not sure if that's something you'd like to look in to but I figured I'd mention it. Anyways, Thanks again for the Rom, I'll run it for a while longer and let you know if I notice anything wrong.
Why can't cm get the Bluetooth share had stopped bug fixed?
OK octopi m3 gearing up for release. Our testers are checking it out.

I have the USCellular release of the Galaxy S4. I have installed the OctOs rom that is for USCellular, looks great and runs great. I get intermittent lte service and cannot find where to setup the APN's. Will the T-Mobile version of this rom work on the USCC phone?

I would be really interested in a d2refreshspr build to play with on my Triband for this rom. Thanks and keep up the great work guys. Oct-M still working great.
Edit: For anyone with the L710T, this rom is buggy, but can work (use at your own peril, it's not recommended and I've noticed data can randomly drop in latest builds)
Method I used:
1) Flash this rom.
2) Flash Modem Symlink Fix @naterza linked to in this thread.
3) If it borks out, you should still be able to flash it over with latest stable PacRom for D2SPR + symlink fix to get it back.
(It fixed broken 4G when I was testing a bork nightly that had me semi-bricked)
4) If you ever hard brick, you can use Odin and revert to stock with ALL_SPT_L710TVPU0ANF4_L710TSPT0ANF4_1683363_REV00_ user_low_ship.tar.md5
(Hat Tip to @FNetV1 for the tip.
Pro-Tip: As many know, Walmart/VM Data Done Right plan is now gone. Unlike what the VM rep tells you initially, you can migrate you're phone to the VM Data Love plan by calling into VM USA from an outside phone. You have to be on stock for the migration, and takes around 45 minutes for the rep to do their job - but it works fine.

OK guys... Weeklies up on site! Go get em!!

Running the weekly build, as good if not better than the last cm nougat nightly before things went belly up. Only problem thus far is that my super su is all sorts of broken so using the built in su manager in dev settings. Might need to reinstall to fix that issue but other than that, thanks for keeping this phone up to date!
going to take a shot since my phone crashed hard under AICP and the million stupid modifications I have done. Wish me luck.

Depending on what you have done, you might want to consider also wiping system when you install clean.

I was just trying to use it for the security updates it can receive and for the nicer management of su permissions. I can still use the built in one fine.
