Backup phone - smashed screen unable to choose MTP transfer mode. - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys I've had some bad luck recently and I've dropped my phone and completely smashed the screen so, I'm looking for a way to fully back up my phone, including apps, app data, messages etc I would ideally like all the databack however if I can't then I'll have to live with it.
Lucky I have USB debugger mode enabled so I can get to the phone via adb shell, however the xperia software won't connect to the phone unless its MTP mode, the phone is currently in charging only atm, I looked using the adb shell and it it says the following usb modes are enabled MTP and ADB however sony software won't connect.
Could anyone help me please backup the data.
Thanks, Mr. Pineapple

Do you have an USB OTG cable? You can connect a mouse and use the phone normally and enable mtp. If not, try to install some VNC server or similar vía adb

I have no idea how I would be able to do this, do you have any good guides?

I also broke my screen last Christmas and using an OTG cable (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=usb+otg), which is a converter from normal usb to micro, I could connect a pc mouse and after restarting the phone, it becomes usable (because you can't tell the phone to detect it using the screen) and you can use the menus and stuff (assuming the screen works but not the tactile sensor).
After searching a bit, it seems not to exist a free VNC server if you are not root in the phone, so maybe there is some graphic application that uses ADB and allows you to extract your files from the phone.
You said that a command tells you that the mode is correct, but does it allow you to change it? Maybe there is a command to change USB connection mode, have you searched for it?

enable USB debugging with ADB

Hi there,
I have an issue with the S4 mini of my wife. She forgot to remove it from one of her pants pocket and placed the pants in the washing machine... I let you imagine the rest. The cellphone is pretty clean now (I did worth, in the toilet , sadly, it happened).
I placed her S4 completely disassembled in rice and a silica gel. everything is dry. I was able to turn it on however the screen did not turn on. I recovered several data but I'm not able to retrieve the sms as the phone is not rooted.
luckly, I have also a S4 mini. I managed to change the screen and it turned on !! however (tsss) the touchscreen doesn't work.
My S4 is from 2013 and hers is from 2014. something might have changed.
so as I mentioned above, I'm trying to retrieve the sms but I need to turn on the USB debugging to be able to use any program.
so what I did is to connect her S4 with ADB [normal boot, recovery, downloading mode] but can't have a connection with ADB:
adb devices
List of devices attached
adb server version (32) doesn't match this client (36); killing...
error: unknown host service
error: could not install *smartsocket* listener: cannot bind to 127.0.0.1:5037: Une seule utilisation de chaque adresse de socket (protocole/adresse could not read ok from ADB Server
réseau/port) est habituellement autorisée. (10048)
* failed to start daemon *
error: cannot connect to daemon
Do you have any idea why I can't get this connection with ADB?
and how to enable the USB debugging with a touchscreen not working ? this will enable me to use several program to retrieve the sms.
many thanks !!
unfortunately I can't get any info from \data\ as the phone is not rooted.
I'm trying to connect a mouse with a otg adapter but I can't get anything from it.
do you have any idea on how to either activate the "usb debugging mode" or to get controle of the cellphone with a mouse?
thanks
and I was able to make adb recognize the phone. that's a small step
So what I found on how to backup sms:
- sms are stored in \data\, so to have access to this partition I need to be rooted. => rooted now will simply make all data disappear which I don't want. => I'm correct, right?
- using any app to backup will need to have the USB debugging active. However I can't do anaything on the screen as it doesn't work. => to activate it with adb, I need to be rooted....
- OTG, I try to connect a mouse (otg linked to the mouse with/without power supply) it doesn't work
is it possible to simply make a clone of my phone to the computer? or to my S4 mini?
my last solution would be to buy a screen but it's 60€ just ot backup the data and as I noticed, I have to be sure the screen is compatible with the motherboard of the cellphone which is not easy...
thanks !!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 ve SM T113 does not connect to pc

Hello good afternoon I bought this (Samsung Galaxy tap 3 Lite 7.0 and SM T113) I had it there using my daughter but it comes with a customization of Samsung kids, what some time ago I tried to do the root through a Chinese program but until But I want to get rid of the Samsung kids format it and leave it as new, I tried to format it but it does not delete all the programs I had installed, try to update it but it tells me that my system Operative has been manipulated to update it by means of Samsung kies, I tried to connect it to the computer but it does not recognize it to me when it connects it says that unknown device tried to update the PC controllers but I have not got anything, the strangest thing is Which does not show me on the tablet that there is connectivity via USB or MTP, and I do not know why the phone application can not find it by any pair If it appears installed in all the applications but it does not show it to me to try to activate the form of connection with a command that I saw, to see if someone can help me to be recognized by the PC
Download firmware from www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and also Odin. Boot into download mode by powering off, then press and hold vol-, home, and power. Then press vol+ when you enter download mode. Connect TAB to PC. Odin should show a blue block with a com number. Load the downloaded firmware into the AP/PDA slot in Odin, (depending on which version of Odin) then press start. Once finished it will reboot.
You may also need to install Samsung Universal USB Drivers, if you don't see the com number in Odin.

Samsung devices have this issue often...have you tried a different USB cable and/or port? These TABs don't like certain cables.

Hi friend, I have already tried many cables, changing port and I still have no results at the moment I connect the tablet the computer marks me device not recognized, and in the notification area of the tablet does absolutely nothing, The tablet is loading

It is very possible that your usb port on the device is bad. I was hoping that wasn't the case, but if Odin won't even recognize it in download mode... that's probably what happened.

Help me recover OP3 data

Hi all!
I recently dropped my OP3 and now i have a black screen and touch screen doesn't work. The phone is still on and operating (i tried calling it from another phone and it works). I want to recover data but apparently i have usb debug off and i tried connecting a keyboard with an OTG but apparently i had to activate OTG from phone, otherwise it doesn't recognizes it.
Do you know any method to recover data?
My last chances are repairing the screen myself to avoid the assistence erase all the data, or transfer my motherboard to another OP3, but do you know any other method before these two above?
Thank you

Most likely the connector has become loose (since you have not said anything about the screen being broken) and you can try to reconnect it by yourself.
Another alternative is to see if adb is working and your PC is authorised. If so, you can use the 'adb pull /sdcard' command to copy your data to the PC.
Alternately, search with Google since I remember reading about a method to mirror your screen and then using the mouse to enable whatever you want.

I'll check the connector but the screen has some cracks (tho i've seen screens in worse condition then mine work).
And i can't use the mouse because OTG is not on, on other phones you don't need to give permission to use OTG but on mine you have to,

What about adb? That is the easiest.
I am not talking about connecting the mouse to the phone through OTG. I am talking about using the PC's mouse to manipulate the cursor to the point where you want it on your PC's screen where your mobile screen is mirrored.

I think you are referring to Vysor, but i can't use it with debugg off again. Edit: I see that there are other apps like that but for most of them you have to install them on the phone, i'll search a bit more tho.
As for ADB i tried before with another phone with debug off and adb doesn't see the phone, i'll try with my broken phone but i don't think it will be different.

Just now, I switched off USB debugging in my OP3 and connected it to the Laptop. While the command 'adb devices' does not find the phone, as soon as it is connected, it shows up as a storage device and I can open it and copy data. I think that for this to work, you should have enabled MTP option for file transfer.
Check this on your phone.
EDIT: Check THIS as there seems to be a way though I am not sure that it works on current Android versions since the file locations may be different. Read till the end.
My phone goes in charging mode when connected to pc, and pc doesn't see it.
Did you do that through recovery mode?

No. Tried it while booted.
Now I tried on recovery mode. Still I get it as a storage device and I can copy data.
So most probably your phone is stuck on charging and not on MTP.

I believe so, every time I connected it to pc i had to switch manually from charging to recovery.
I guess my best solution is to buy a screen replacement and repair it myself

Have you tried fastboot flash twrp recovery and then fastboot reboot to recovery
You can try usb c to hdmi adapter , connect to a monitor or tv.
I am not sure but worth trying!!!

From what i can remember, the recovery mode, accessible from the fastboot menu, has a usb access mode.
If worst comes to worst though, i personally have replaced the screen on my OP3, and its not as difficult as it seems or is made out to be. Took me max 4 hrs.

[solved] Recover Data: Touchscreen doesn't respond, fastboot only, Stock Android One

Hey gals and guys,
my girlfriend dropped her Xiaomi A2 lite and no the touchscreen doesn't respond. The phone has the stock Android One and I can only access fastboot.
Code:
fastboot devices
recognizes the phone.
The recovery is the stock recovery.
Code:
adb devices
won't recognize the phone and gives me an empty line as output
I also can't access the phone via usb with my filebrowser. If I try, the phone makes a "bing"-sound and the filebrowser gives me:
Code:
unable to open MTP device
I am using archlinux and I also have a windows device available.
Is there any chance on getting pictures etc from the phone?
Any suggestions besides getting a replacement for the touchscreen?
Thank you so much.
Connecting via USB probably needs you to click something.
I'm guessing developer mode is not enabled...
If you've got a micro USB OTG cable, you could plug a mouse in.
If you boot TWRP (fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-dees-troy.img) you should be able to get adb and usb transfers working. Don't need to install it, just boot it. Not sure if that works without unlocked bootloader.
If you've got a micro USB OTG cable, you could plug a mouse in.

Question Phone not connecting via USB

My first Poco F3 is completely unlocked and running a custom rom, still able to connect to PC even now.
I have a second Poco F3 that I was able to originally connect to my PC to debloat, hadn't needed to connect it to a PC till now. Today was the day I could unlock it but when I connect it via USB cable, original or otherwise, no usb options appear on phone and nothing shows on PC. I can use the same cable on my first Poco F3 and everything works fine. I've tried multiple cables, reinstalling drivers, restarting phone and PC, trying a different PC, enabling debugging tools, etc.
Nothing shows in "My Computer"
Nothing shows in Device Manager
No usb options on phone (default is set to File Transfer)
Nothing shows in CMD with "adb devices"
Charging still works
Is there anything I can do to at the very least unlock the bootloader? Or is this not fixable?
long shot... check the usb C port for dirt/dust/fluff blocking connection...
Most probably u debloated an app responsable for media transfer. If u can, revert what u debloated.

Did a factory reset thinking that may have been the case, still no good.
Tried cleaning out the port and still no good either
I still think it's Windows. Please can you try putting Ubuntu (or another Linux distro) on a USB, booting from that, installing platform tools (ADB/fastboot etc) and then running ADB devices. Windows is very finiky sometimes.
Edit: when you plug in your phone to the PC do you get a notification saying charging? Or is there no notification? Also does it start charging the phone?
There is a delay before it begins charging and the charging animation plays but yes it does. But then there is no usb notification. Will try ubuntu and report back
Booting into Ubuntu, before installing platform tools the first phone that I knew worked showed up and showed up in adb devices when platform tools was used. The second still didn't show up, exactly the same as on windows
Try downloading the installed stock miui rom from the update menu in the miui update menu and re-install it on the phone
Unfortunately reinstalling latest package didn't help
Can't think of anything else to suggest. Sorry
If the usb connection continues to be nonexistent, is there any way to at least unlock the bootloader without using the Xiaomi Unlock tool on the PC?
Are you sure the USB cable you're using support transfert file?

Hmmmmm.....strange! I'm running out of ideas....try different USB ports on PC. Maybe it's a faulty USB-C port on phone after all.
do you have a type c usb-otg?
If yes then see if it is detected by the phone

Yes. Used 4 different cables, 1 of which is the cable that comes with the phone. None work on this phone but do on the first phone.

Tried different ports across 2 PCs. I'm starting to think it is a faulty port, though it worked fine a week ago.

Try to use this version of Mi FLash Tool (only for drivers) : https://xiaomiflashtool.com/download/xiaomi-flash-tool-20210226
Extract and launch the executable then drivers install
Something like this. You can plug in any usb stick and see if it is detected. Another way to check whether the port on the phone is working for data as well

I don't have anything like this but that reminded me of the usb-c to headphone adapter and that also doesn't work. Sound just plays out of the speakers.
Trying with Android Auto in the car, the car doesn't register a device connecting at all either.
Either the data transfer portion is somehow disabled on the device itself (which I would love to know how to enable it again if that's the case) or it's a damaged usb port. Just strange that it worked a week ago.
Something I forgot to mention, when I went to unlock the bootloader yesterday the phone did not show up anywhere except for in the ADBFastbootTools to debloat the software as a OnePlus device but then never showed up again.
