Overheating? - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

I am planning on buying this phone in the future for gaming purposes and was wondering if it was suffering from overheating. I heard many cases of the older MI 5 model overheating and was wondering if this new MI 5S model fixed this issue or is suffering from it just the same. I really don't want to be holding a burning brick when trying to play some games. I would appreciate as many answers as possible. Also for how long have you been using it at a time? Did you ever play games on it for a few hours continuously?

Wow really!? No one!
Just a comment saying it's cool as ice or not or something.

no overheating while playing game...(test on Marvel future fight game)
now im using mi 5s plus 6gb
previous phone S7 edge got heat although have cooling system but still got hot...
maybe chipset snapdragon 821 much better now.
best gameplay on this 5s plus.. n no more worry on battery drain anymore...

During benchmarking or gaming the phone just gets a bit warmer than usual. I haven't experienced any throttling after playing for over 30 minutes.

Thanks allot for the reply guys. More comments are still welcomed. This might help other people make a better decision as well.

I haven't noticed any overheating, however if you tell me which game you are trying to play, I may give it a go and provide feedback

I want to mainly use it for emulation but, if you can, try out some 3D demanding game for and hour or so and see how it goes. I heard this one is pretty demanding: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pixelherogames.xenos
If you have time please go ahead.

No, you literally get the game working on only a quarter of the screen, the rest of the screen is black, and the controls are all out of whack!

I like how you want devs to work on things for this device, but you openly say that you STEAL apps. Why would anyone want to develop anything that you might use, they know they'll get it stolen.

In his defense, there is so much inconsistency in apps for android that sometimes you kinda do this in order not to spend money on a game and not have it work, I would gladly pay three times what they are charging if I was certain they would work. Ipad definitely has it beat in that department.
How the hell do you get these to work on the A101. I've tried the Galaxy Tab versions, the HD versions, etc. I can't get any to work.

Doodle Jump pathetic graphics performance, Tmo version only??

I recently switched from Sprint to Tmobile, both carriers version of the SGS2, and noticed a startling difference in graphics performance between the two versions, most easily witnessed whilst playing the game Doodle Jump. Mind you this is not a graphics intense game, but the Tmo version of this phone just cannot handle it. My gf has the same exact phone and gets the same results. Is the graphics capabilities with the snapdragon processors that much worse vs the original processors used in all other variants of the SGS2??
Umm...i have DJ installed now to see what your complaining about. I see ZERO lag. The graphics are pixelated, I can only assume it's because of the MASSIVE screen and the program not being optimized for it.

Pixilated graphics is just the start...once you get going the jitteryness and choppyness is overwhelming. Screen size would be an excuse....if the Sprint version had the same issues, which it does not, it plays the game flawlessly, and has the same 4.52" screen.

Lol, I knew these responses were coming...but still, why the hell can't a phone of this magnitude handle such a tiny game??? I think Samsung needs to be aware of such Epic shortcomings with such a bad ass phone otherwise. I was literally shocked at what my eyes were witnessing, it's really that bad, you can't deny it, unfortunately :-(

Stop asking why, and just return the phone. People really find any reason to complain.

For what it's worth, Doodle Jump looks TERRIBLE on the Sensation, and that's with the higher resolution, so it's not an issue of too low a resolution. I think DJ just has issues displaying properly.
Honestly.. unless the game looks AMAZING and graphics intensive you can put the blame on the game itself not having optimization for our graphics processor.
I just played DJ and it does feels like it's in slow motion compared to my Nexus S. That said, I agree with the idea it's probably the games fault and not the phone. Every other game I've played on the SGS2 has worked flawlessly.

Think people! The phone is flawless with Asphalt 6 graphics but stutters on Doodle Jump. Come on, Really

this guy is not alone i posted the bad gpu many time playing city jump and gun bros it lags and on gun bros the controls get stuck i would never trade my phone in the point of saying that is maybe the devs can find away to fix these problems in the rom its not just the fact that games are not optimized for the phone because they are my brother has a dell streak and games work better on there so i no its the gpu my lock screen lags so hopfully the can be fixed in some roms
Moderators embarrassed...must delete this complaint lol
Ok, so this is the third thread I have posted about this shortcoming with Tmo's version of this phone....apparently the moderators are so sensitive to this issue all they can do is delete the thread, which is pretty damn pathetic if you ask me. Anyway, this Tmo version of theSGS2 is completely incapable of processing the simple game of Doodle Jump. Try it for yourself and see what happens... I'll keep reposting until it gets addressed.
You mean this thread?
your thread just got moved....
Maybe the game needs an update because of our hardware or screen size? I'd say that's more likely the problem.
Wow. All this for a game. The phone must be crap and you should return it.

The issue won't get addressed if you post here. You have to post to the dev of the app you are having the issue with. As new hardware comes out there will always be this issue of incompatibility until the dev optimize their apps to work on the newer hardware. This issue is nothing new with Android and I think ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) should also help fix this issue.

There is nothing new about the hardware in this phone, including the GPU -- it's been out and in use for some time.
OP: you're going to get a lot of hysterical fanboy trolling about how their phone is "completely fine" and "lag free." That's the nature of this particular forum. The real issue is that Samsung released this phone with zero optimization and compared to the other SGS2 models, this one is a complete joke in terms of performance -- except with respect to data speed.

Its not about the money for me though, granted I wouldn't even be considering it if its wasn't currently 25p.
But I wan't to know how much people enjoy it, and whether it is like Assassins Creed type of game, because if it is, I won't be purchasing.
If you waste thus much time worrying about a 25pc purchase you have serious time management issues.

It's noting like Assassins Creed, trust me. You don't climb buildings. You don't assassinate people. The combat is completely different.
Horn is more like, well... It's actually very original, except the combat system. Everyone in the world gets turned into robots(sorta ) and it's upto you to turn them back, save them. The combat is easy swiping the screen to attack then pressing buttons on the bottom left and right to doge your foes attacks.
The story is okay, I wont spoil it for you so if you want to know more about it you'll have to buy it. The graphics are very good and it runs very well for me, some say otherwise. One other thing I have to praise the game for is its brilliant voice acting, top stuff.
I must say for 25p it's a steal, I made the mistake of buying it on day one. Purchase it, Download it, Play it, like it or hate it and remove it. Really, it's definitely worth a shot.
Sod it, Ima give it a purchase and have a play with it after work.
Cheers CJ, most constructive reply yet !
Appreciate it
No problem :good:

Question The most disappointing phone that currently exists.

I feel so stupid for buying this phone only for it to perform worse than phones 2-3 generations older in Browser Benchmarks, this reminds me of the Snapdragon 801 era that was also filled with overheating and performance issues, the phone is utter trash and if you are looking to buy the phone, PLEASE STAY AWAY. Get any other phone in the same range it will literally be better than this.
OnePlus must be sued just like how NVIDIA was sued for GTX 970. I will never buy a OnePlus again.
Return it. best of luck.

I have been using it for 24 hours now, why is the touch response so DAMN LAGGY at 120 FPS and HYPER TOUCH ENABLED?!? I compared it with Oppo Find X2 Pro with the exact same Resolution and FPS and Oppo is butter smooth and this damn thing crawls like a village drunk when opening Accubattery from the status BAR.
OnePlus will never be successful in US after this. They just lied and I was dumb and believed them.

I have it for about 3 weeks now and I didn't notice any slowdowns in browsing web on Chrome. I don't know why do you care about benchmark results ? If they drop performance to level where you can save some battery but you didn't feel slower, for me it's very good decision and this is called optimisation.
The only thing is that they should inform us about it.
People all complain about benchmarking! You buy a phone to use it! not to benchmark it! Jeeez

You have three types of people those who buy a phone to use, those who buy to benchmark and the numbers mean life or death. And those who just like to complain on some forums online .
Obvious troll is obvious
I haven't noticed any lag or stuttering. Been using the phone for about a month now. Very smooth and no obvious throttling even though I'm sure it's occurring.

My God. You use a phone 24 hours and then go complaining about it like this? Calm down mate! You want to immediately sue them, geez. "Utter trash", haha. Not one professional review is this negative - why could that be? And then your title: Like everyone is this extermely negative "The most disappointing phone that currently exists". You could add "of the universe" for extra drama, you know. Get a grip.
Only thing I know of is some battery issues, that could well be resolved with updates. I have no issues at all (besides that battery life is a little dissapointing): one of the smootest experiences ever - not kidding.
Ask yourself the questions: Why am I litteraly the only one complaining in this magnitude? Could it be me?
Could it be that it's just a faulty phone? It happens you know.
Are you on the latest firmware?

I thought u already tried and can tell, i know it aint be hard as im using yuzu on desktop
Just finished my setup with razer junglecat, 3D printed hold-case, steam link and wireguard, just say it works very well with an unlimited data plan
It works well for me
Stock le2123, os 13
I've not turned on performance boost nor added extra ram 8GB for my model
After around 5 minutes the phone got progressively warmer until I had a notification at around 15 minutes that the phone got too hot!
After some experiments I reduced the frame rate to 75% , which really improves the visuals
Ah, I've now removed the yuzu as my phone was getting hot too quickly. This caused the phone to grind a stop and crash the emulation.
I've since ordered a switch ( standard ), which comes with the official game I was playing.
