Mi 5S horrible Upload speeds - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

Have tested a few times and the upload speeds over WiFi are horrible. needs ages to even start transmitting and when it does i get 0.01 and sometimes 1 Mbit/s while every other device on the network gets 6 Mbit/s up.
So does anybody here have similar issues or maybe a solution? Download is also bad sometimes but not as bad as upload.

No, anything good with xiaomi.eu ROm
Gesendet von meinem MI 5s Plus mit Tapatalk

My results on Ookla speedtest:
1. mobile: Ping 67, Upload 1,1 MBit, Download 7,6 MBit - o2 Germany 3G (yesterday)
2. Wifi: Ping 24, Download 45,19 MBit, Upload 9,39 MBit - 1+1 Germany
3. mobile tonight: Ping 76, Download 17,29 MBit (1st test) and 28,89 MBit (2nd test), Upload 4,87 MBit - o2 Germany 3G
Here in germany we need in o2/ vodafone mobile web Band 20 for good 4G-connections, missing in Mi5S.
Sometimes the 3G-connections are horrible, sometimes okay.
Xiaomi.eu rom, newest stable version.

I just tested WIFI with the website http://testmy.net, received 82 Mbit/s download und 51 Mbit/s upload rate, this is good.
Latest China Stable ROM.

I tested again and the issue only seems to occur with 2.4 GHz networks, the 5 GHz is fine. Maybe it's a hardware issue after all

2.4 can be very overcrowded and also cause speed issues. Also which ROM are you running? If you aren't using the official China ROM, then there is the possibility of bad drivers.

Haven't changed ROMs or anything really yet but I will probably flash the eu rom based on the feedback in this thread. System info says MIUI Global 8.0.

You have to check exact version. Latest official is 8.0.18.0. If you have an additional 0 in the number, it's a fake shop rom. Also if you have any other language than Chinese and English, it's a fake ROM. Don't forget, even the xiaomi.eu ROM is a custom ROM, with all it's up and down sides.

Have you checked that your Wifi network isn't on the same channel as someone else's nearby? Get Wifi analyzer and check the channels, and if necessary, change your wifi channel from your router's settings.
I have the Xiaomi.eu weekly ROM and I get maximum speeds in both directions that my internet connection allows. About 50/30 Mbps down/up. Haven't tried moving files within my home network, I'll test that once I'm back at my apartment and update here.

Not necessary, WiFi is fine and always has been on any other device.

Yeah, I just checked my version number and it seems I have a custom Vendor ROM with Version 8.0.10.0.0 ...
Will flash the Xiaomi.eu version and test again, thanks for the heads up!

Slow HSDPA Data Connection, Froyo 2.2

When I was using Android 2.1 on HSDPA I could get 1.5mbps
But now since using Froyo 2.2 I can only ever get a max of 0.5mbps no matter where I am.
I'm on O2, could it be the APN settings are wrong?
I'm using a custom ROM
Official 2.2, with: busybox, old A2SD+, OpenVPN (TUN), EXT4 support, 802.11N

But I have tried a few Froyo custom ROMs all with the same problem
Does anyone know the reason why I can't get faster than 0.5mbps on 2.2 while on 2.1 I could get 1.5mbps?
Thanks
that sounds like a connection issue as in it connects to one network on Froyo and a different one on Eclair. Do you see any difference on the signal bar indicators?
do you know if the APN Settings are different between roms?

Signal bars seem the same, and using the same APN Settings, got them of the O2 website and input them manually.

Used a speed tester from the market
well using virgin media in a crappy signal area i got 355kbps down and 115kbps up on froyo on mobile net. are you sure you didn't set up you old rom to use your wifi and you have now flashed and are using only the 3g connection. Mine is 3 times faster too if i use the wifi!

With wifi I can get 8mbps so its no problem.
It's only HSDPA were i'm limited to 0.5mbps
Well having no exp of this or anything the only thing i can find is this, i hope it helps you.
all the best
James
I had the problem where I was receiving very slow speeds, but on 2.1 I was getting about 2mb dl.
What I did was check my build.prop in the /system/ folder and added the lines
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
this made my browsing speed go straigt back to normal. The market is also fast again. (if you are in the US, use 1 and 11 instead)
All you have to do is use notepad++ to edit the build.prop file with these lines. Add them near the lower half of the file. Then just
adb remount and
adb push (c:/whereever the build.prop is) /system
adb shell reboot
I am going to add these lines:
ro.media.enc.file.format = 3gp,mp4
ro.media.enc.vid.codec = m4v,h263
ro.media.enc.vid.h263.width = 176,352
ro.media.enc.vid.h263.height = 144,288
ro.media.enc.vid.h263.bps = 64000,800000
ro.media.enc.vid.h263.fps = 1,30
ro.media.enc.vid.m4v.width = 176,352
ro.media.enc.vid.m4v.height = 144,288
ro.media.enc.vid.m4v.bps = 64000,800000
ro.media.enc.vid.m4v.fps = 1,30
I suspect that I will be able to watch my camcorder files properly now. I haven't tried this yet but I will update with the result.
edit: All of my video recordings and other clips now work
Good luck
Thanks may give that a try.
Don't understand why this problem has occurred since I'm using the official HTC Rom
Also have the same issue on O2 since updating, slow speeds and eratic data connection. flips from H to G much more often.
Baseband : 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20
Not sure if this was the same version before the Update i was on a Stock O2 rom 2.1. but debranded and took the OTA update for 2.2
Facebook , Weather and Mail widget all need refresh clicking several times before they find updates (Maybe because of the slow connection??) .
Flash lags the phone almost to a halt. (not related to the radio) and most of the speed test sites use flash so i am not sure if this affects my results but the browsing time seems considerable slower even on non flash sites(flash disabled).
I am trying to avoid going back to a stock o2 rom, is it possible that this is somehow tweaked for their network ?
I am also reluctant to do the Bootloader downgrade which i think i would need to do to revert to the stock o2 rom ...is that correct ?
Many thanks in advance.
@jamesmcuk
I am assuming this would require root ? This would also mean downgrade of bootloader i think :-( it hurts
i'm on orange and a rooted non ota froyo rom
get alot of the G to H changing too but when H is lit it is very very fast
surfing is quicker on the network than on a wifi with 10meg speed
speed does seem erratic tho, maybe a reson of the recent orange 3g network downtime today and official orange confirmation of 3g problems

Slow Wi-Fi after WW_2.20.40.97_20150917 update?

I did a search and didn't find anything. I've been updating my ZE551ML and keeping it completely stock. I am on the latest update (WW_2.20.40.97_20150917) and did a Factory Reset for a clean start. I realized after setting up my Wi-Fi again that speeds are extremely slow; <20 Mbps. This is on both the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands, and even if I put it in the Performance Battery mode.
Is anyone else seeing similar and if so, did it start with this update or something earlier?
Is it because of the location? For me, Wi-Fi working normally (at least didn't affect my daily use) except for in my room which is not very far from the router. I get 3 to 4 bars wifi, but it will stop working for sometime and speed is very slow I can't even watch a video without being interrupted. If I walk out of my room, speed is back normal. It's like my room is protected against wifi
Sent from my ASUS_Z00A using Tapatalk
It is definitely something up with my ZF2. I have plenty of other devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network that get appropriate speeds. I'm pretty sure it also got great Wi-Fi speeds when I first got it, but this is the first time I re-checked the speeds after all of the various software updates since release, plus a Factory Reset.
FYI, after some additional testing as well as downgrading the firmware, this seems to be some sort of weird interaction between my router/access point and the ZF2.
I'm currently using the T-Mobile CellSpot (basically a ASUS RT-AC68 with T-Mobile custom firmware) in Access Point mode, and what I've been able to determine is that the ZF2 seems to be speed-limited when connected to the "normal" SSIDs (I have separate ones for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). I have configured guest SSIDs (which have Internet access but not local LAN access) and when connected to those the speeds are as expected.
Really doesn't make much sense to me since it is the same wireless radio on the router. But at least I can reproduce it definitely at this point.
Some time lag )

My ZE551 ML is also facing some issues after the final update WW_2.20.40.97_20150917. Cellular data is not working. All the buttons are working and on but arrows are not displayed and no data transfer and status says Cellular network status-Disconnected.
poor clarity in voice calls to the receiver and slow system respond with even phone book app.

Oneplus 3 - Issues with 5GHz WiFi?

Hello,
I seem to be having an issue with connecting to my 802.11ac router (Apple's Time Capsule). In "Automatic" mode, it connects to my SSID via 2.4GHz only. When I go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced and choose Wi-Fi Frequency band as 5Ghz it finds 0 networks in the area.
FYI - I'm on 3.1.3 OxygenOS.
Is anyone experiencing similar issues?
Best,
Mash
Edit: To be clear, I have several devices including my laptop that are connected to the 5Ghz band. I've also used a WiFi scanner in my old S6 Edge to verify that there are SSIDs broadcasting in the 5Ghz band.
I use 5 GHz network at home and it works fine with my op3.
Wysłane ze zmywarki
using 5Ghz on Fritzbox, i also use diffrent ssid names for 2,4 and 5ghz and also different passwords
Thanks guys. Are both of you on 3.1.3? I'm trying to isolate the issue here...

Got a 3TB time capsule here. OOS 3.1.3 - on automatic, it only connects to 2G despite having full 5G signal, however if i switch it to 5G only, it finds both main and guest networks in that band and connects fine Try re-flashing stock rom
Thanks - I'll try and do a nandroid backup and reflash to see if that fixes the issue.

3.1.3 stock, not rooted
Check what frequency and channel width your 5ghz band is set to, one time I changed my 2.4ghz and my ps4 couldn't detect it til I changed back.
Just tried 5Ghz without issue using channel widths 20Mhz, 40Mhz, and 80Mhz.

Thanks guys. I wonder if I've got a lemon.
I've just reflashed 3.1.3 and even then can't find or detect ANY 5GHz SSIDs. This is so frustrating.
I guess a call to support is the way forward.

Check if you are able to connect to a different 5GHz Network. It _might_ be an issue with the router itself.
Mine OP3 connects to 2.4 and 5 without any problems (TP-Link Archer C7).

Try going into advanced wifi settings and setting your network mode to 5ghz only. Inconvenient but will do the job.

Max. WiFi Speed / WiFi extremely slow MIUI 8

Hi,
first of all i am on MIUI 8 (8.1.5 Global Stable) and my Wifi seems to be really slow. Sometimes i got only 1 MBps with a speedtest although i'm on a 75MBit internet connection behind the wifi router. Most of the time i reach about 8MBit and sometimes 35MBit.
The problem occured on 8.1.3 the first time and i flashed 8.1.5 via TWRP and started from scratch (wiped) but it remains the same. Maybe it's a hardware defect.
Anyway - Could you do a speedtest and tell me which connection you have and which max bandwidth you can achieve with the Mi Max?
Also i considered flashing just a new radio, because TWRP update doesn't flash radio.
So could you tell me what version is the current baseband (radio)? Just check in Phone Information. I would really appreciate to know if there is a newer radio and how to flash it safely (phone is officially unlocked).
Thank you

To begin, I advise you to test your wi-fi on several different devices. If only Mi Max will have a bad rate, then it is necessary to look for the problem and if all devices have the same speed of the Internet, the problem is in the router.
5ghz or 2.4ghz is your router using?
I also has this issue. and i found out that it happens only with specific routers (like i have in my home).
I think that i found a workaround for my home - i use Xiaomi mi adapter as a repeater and connect to it and it works much faster..
Other phones on the same network don't have the problem.

Nope,
I meant Xiaomi WIFI Repeater Amplifier: 7-8$
http://xiaomi-mi.com/mi-wifi/xiaomi-mi-wifi-amplifier/
yes correct i am using that mi wifi extender it works great but need to configure it under mi home app
My version is 8.2.5.0 and my WiFi is slow!! It takes time to play even 144p videos in youtube .
Why it is slow ?? And what is the solution ??
I have the same problem. But I have slow DL rates at any wifi router, and also LTE. Changed many ROMs and the problem persist.
i think im having same problem.. im getting 2.8MB/s on a 100Mb network.
Speed in 4g data mode is working fine.. the problem is on wifi only.
The Wi-Fi does seem slower than other phones. I'm on MIUI 10 8.8.9 eu ROM and the maximum I can get connected to an Asus AC68 router is ~150Mb, whereas my Galaxy Note 4 does ~250Mb over the same 5Ghz 400Mb connection.

I have this same problem did you ever find a solution? Did you get a new router, cause that is were am at right now.
Yes, fixed when I did official ROM update via OTA to MIUI10 and now MIUI11. With the same router I got 300Mbps.
I have recently upgraded the router to the Asus AC86U but only for better 5Ghz range for all my devices. The slow issue was definitely the phoned software.

So, I'm a little late on this, but since there're no answers yet...
One thing I noticed: I can't turn on the tethering if I choose the 5 Ghz band. Don't know why, it says it's not available in this country (I live in Germany). If I choose 2.4 Ghz it works without issue. Hope that helps someone. :fingers-crossed:
What's the point of tethering when hotspot works flawlessly? I've played Fortnite while traveling on my laptop on the 5ghz band of my Mi Max 3 with no lag.
