Charging LED - Moto Z Play Themes, Apps, and Mods

Acted on a hunch, and yessir, our Z Play has the famed hidden LED in the speaker.
Install and use the MOTO X LED app to activate, must be rooted to gain this glory.

Dont think i installed the same app but at least its working

I can't say just where I downloaded the app from, but I've used it on my x style and my Nexus 6. So I've had it for a while now.

any other way to activate it without root?

Can we use it for notifications...i mean mail , text message or WhatsApp

In another thread they mentioned lightflow will allow for that, but that's a paid play store app

On the pixel this feature is hidden in settings notifications settings-gear pulse notification light. Maybe it's there for you

Definitely don't have that option

OK I see. I just picked up a z play for the wife. Free at vzw. The screens are different to the pixel. At least it has the ambient display. Always liked moto quality.

Well looks like I gotta root this phone. No breathing notifications and no LED, not a great system. I'll wait till nougat update then root it.

The file in question that controls the charging LED is /sys/class/leds/charging/brightness and unfortunately its permissions are 0664 with write permissions given to system:system, so unless there is an interface from some system daemon you need root access to control the LED.
That file accepts 5 different numeric values in the range from 0 to 4, with 0 (LED is off), 1-3 (blinking modes from the fastest to the slowest), and 4 (LED is on). I am currently searching for the possible interface inside the stock firmware.

Hello, any progress?

I tried it
By default it's set to "0"
If I change the value from 1 to 4 ...It's starts blinking even if charging or not charging ....
If I connect charger it keeps blinking
If you restart the device ....Value changes to default "0"

These settings with light flow legacy worked for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/how-to/moto-z-led-t3514729/post71587497

(Q): Use LEDs between the keys for notification?

Hi,
as some (stupid) designer at Sony Ericsson decided to make the notification LED very small AND put it on the side, I would like to know if there's ANY kind of possibility to use the 2 LEDs between the keys to work as notification indicator?
Is/will this be possible?
Thank you
Light Flow
Light Flow works on my Arc: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflowlite
It allows you to set the "button backlight LED" (aka the ones between the front buttons) to come on for specific notifications. It also has lots of other options for customizing your notifications (side LED colour, different vibration patterns, etc).
Thank you!
Do I need to root the Arc or does it work out of the box?
Hummm can't make this app work
Sent from my LT15a using XDA App
You will most likely need to be rooted to make this app work as it will need to change settings in your system files.
I am rooted, but didn't get a root notification when configuring Light Flow so I presume it's not needed.
It seems to be working fine for Enhanced Email, SMS, missed call notifications, etc. on my Arc.
@Cholerabob - did you set the options correctly? On mine I do NOT have 'direct mode' enabled, the accessibility service is on, make sure 'button back light control' is set to 'control' in general settings, and 'button backlight LED' is set to 'solid' for whichever notification you are testing. If you use a task killer, try excluding Light Flow.
I tried Light Flow and can't get the 2 LED's between the keys to work. The Arc has to be rooted. I just got the Arc and don't feel comfortable rooting it. Are there any other alternatives?

LED Notification - change timeout?

Right now it looks like the LED Notification on the One X is set at something like 5 minutes (it stops blinking after that). I presume this is a simple setting (maybe in build.prop - I'm no dev). Is there any app or hack that can make this longer? I don't always look at my phone every 5 mins or less and I like not turning on the screen to know if I have a notification.
there is a app in market - i think it called "blink". With this you can manualy setup all led-colour, blink-time and much more others.
Will that blink app works with extending htc one x notification led duration?
You can also do it with Tasker.
I didn't find the blinker.
Tasker is not working for me...
I don't believe that can't configure the led timeout...
Yes I would also like to try it. If you search "Blink" on google play online it's the first result. However that app only lets you configure the green led and I don't think the frequency change works. Also you can't change the orange led and it cannot find it.
Still searching...

Other ones to try are, "Lite Flow" and "LED me know".

I'm not sure if these work with One X. I used Led me know for my Desire HD.

unfortunatelly the led blink only five minutes in all applications...
I used to have LED me know app on my Desire Z, but it didn't work so good after the Android 2.3.3 update.
I'll follow this thread, I need that blinking light to stop only when I turn on the screen, otherwise it's pretty useless if you don't see the phone in the first 5 mins.

i absolutely agree with you. This is useless feature in this form.
I've found the application (with source code) which name of missed reminder.
https://launchpad.net/missed-reminder/+download
if you disable the factory led notications and you can enable this (except the gmail notification because is not working whith new gmail api...) it will works sms, mms and missed call notification without time limit.
i've tried repair the code that we can use gmail reminder but the new gmail api don't work with HTC sense 4.0 (but with CM9 works)
i'll try more... maybe
Thank You!!!!
Thank you man, i followed your advice on my HTC One X and now thanks to you the 5 minutes
led blinking just got solved, thank you very much for your help you are a lifesaver!!!!

Vibration strength?

Anyone aware of anyway either via root or 3rd party app on how to change the strength of a notification vibration?
Coming from a pebble which literally shook your wrist when it vibrated, the vibration on the SW3 just seems so weak!
Looking at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-watch/orig-development/rom-graphene-rom-preview-t2888758
he changes some sysfs values:
Code:
# increase vibration intensity
echo 50 > /sys/class/timed_output/vibrator/amp
echo 115 > /sys/class/timed_output/vibrator/driving_ms
I don't have my SW3 yet so can't try myself. Maybe root is required.
I agree completely! This thing is dead compared to the pebble! Would I run those commands from ADB? Would I just put the value I want on the end?

the number just behind echo is the value.
Note: changes you do this way don't survive a reboot.
Aww but thank you!
not what you ask for but.....
I went to settings > about > enabled developer options > dev options .> pressed on manufacture menu-launcher >Vibrator > enter duration> changed to 500 ms
I tested and it vibrated longer than usual but the settings didn't stick.
anyone?

Those settings are only to test if sensors are working. They are not normal settings and will not stick...

Take it there is no solution as yet, totally agree vibrate is so weak it's almost useless.

You can also use "Vibration Notifier" it can add vibe for strenght you would and repeat one or more time 2s after the first original vibe.
+1 Light flow for me is the solution. Anyway, compared to the moto 360 this watch is an hammer drill!

this is dead already but i didnt like lightflow too much so ive been using "Feel the Wear" app for couple weeks now, and it works fine! made just for this ! so if you dont wanna bother paying or messing with your notifications and led, try this out ! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sk.martinflorek.wear.feelthewear&hl=en
Thanks!
old thread i can see, however i stumbled across it searching for the same thing, for me lightflow and feel the wear was not for me as you have to pay for both and are filled with too many extras that i dont actually want.
i found this one - free/easy to use and does the trick fine to change the vibration length which makes me feel the vibration and not miss notifications

[X-FORCE] [TUT] Enable Notification Light

Great news for everyone with an X-Force, and everyone with a DT2 once it gets root.
Unlike previous Moto phones, we are able to get the notification "charging" led to fire for a notification of our choosing. Unfortunately, it appears to work a bit sporadically, I'd say only about 80% of the time.
Steps:
1. Download Light Flow from the Play Store
2. Enable Accessibility options when prompted
3. Open the Menu > Device Settings and Root
4. Enable Root Mode, Run Every Command as Root (I didnt alter anything else, but feel free to experiment)
5. Go to the LED Control menu
6. Enable charging control under the "Additional LEDs" section
Notification Configuration:
1. Go to Notification Settings
2. Select an appropriate notification & swype over to the "Light" section
3. At the bottom change "charging LED" to solid and "charging brightness" to 255
You are done
I have only been able to get green working, let me know if anyone gets things working a bit more consistent or with other colors and I will update the OP
You may contact dev of Light Flow to improve compatibility with Force/T2.
Hi , great job
How do I get the green?

Battery led as notification led?

Hi all,
i've noted that there is a battery led at the right side of the fingerprint sensor. when the battery is off and u try to switch on ur phone it will glow.
it there an app, without unlocking the bootloader, that allow to use it as a notification led?
thanks in advance
I'm almost certain "no". LightFlow works, but only if rooted.
The "Moto LED Enabler" app doesn't work very well, but in the latest build of LineageOS it becomes with the system setting the option of turn on/off the battery LED as notification LED

what are the lightflow settings you used to make it work?
Hi, the only Rom I saw which manages the battery led as notification successfully is Aosp extended. Pretty nice Rom by the way.
I am not sure how, but it does even blink whenever a notification is pending. I saw no way to control it, although the default behaviour is good enough for my needs

First, have to be rooted, have to use the paid version (I'm pretty sure that's still a requirement) of LightFlow..
Grant LightFlow SuperUser permission.
I think the main ones are
>In Settings/Device Settings and Root, select:
-Direct Mode
-Root Mode
-Run every command as root
>In Settings/LED Control
-under 'Additional LEDs found,' select 'charging control'
Then, for your chosen apps (and I haven't tested that many, just want for email, sms, and voicemail/missed calls)
go to the Light tab, then find "charging LED" and change to Solid.
'charging Brightness' is at 1 by default, and changing it doesn't seem to matter.
Nice thing on this phone is that the LED, after a few seconds of solid, goes to blinking (on the Moto X Pure, stayed solid)
The solution from "djroese33" works on my Moto G4 Plus 16GB 7.0 (magisk) STOCK.
Use any custom ROM, almost all has that feature.. but without root I don't think it's possible.
It must be rooted.
I use the free Legacy light flow.
Moto LED enabler and Moto E & X Led only allowed me to change it based on the battery charging, not as a notification for emails, texts, calls.
Ive read many posts saying its in nearly every custom rom, but I have not been able to find it in Resurrection Remix.

In RR at least ( this may apply to other ROMs), the notification LED and the battery LED are hiding under Settings>notifications, press the cog icon in the top right corner. Options to enable/disable the LEDs are there, though not as customisable as the aforementioned apps or ROMs.

Turn off LED Notification light in Moto G4 Plus (RR rom)
To Disable or Turn Off the led notification light in moto g4 plus(RR custom rom) :
(1) Go to setting
(2) Click on the searching icon then type "Configure Notifications".
Search it then you can see the option to disable the light
