Unlocked Bootloader - Still wont accept new sim - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

Hi guys!
I was one of the unfortunate people to buy a locked EE Google Pixel, I have unlocked the bootloader using dePixel, but when inserting my sim from another network it is still showing the SIM as un-compatible. I am wondering if anyone can help me out with this? Thanks!

An unlocked bootloader is different than unlocking a sim-locked phone. The first link below suggests your service provider sells sim-locked phones, so like you're describing, I would not expect the phone to work with another service's SIM. I'm not familiar with your service provider, so I would refer to something like the second link.

There are at least a couple threads on the subject.

I'm thinking the reason your thread got 100+ views and not one reply is your question being the noobiest of noobs!
Anyway, the Galaxy Nexus isn't sim-locked. the "sim network unlock pin" message you're getting must be a security PIN in your sim.
Maybe not: I've a Vodafone GN and it is network unlocked with a internet purchased PIN code.
Each time I "touch" the rom, the device ask again for that unlock code.
pin code
Witch provider do U have? is your sim protected by unlock code?call your provider and ask for "PUK" code this should help.
Mine was O2 sim locked and I bought an unlock code from an ebay seller. Several weeks later it decided to sim lock itself again without provocation.
Unfortunately I had deleted the email with the unlock code so had to buy it again... Annoying.

This is an ignorant response. The OP's phone is SIM-locked.
OP, flashing a new firmware does indeed SIM relock the phone. SIM relocks can also seemingly appear randomly or after removing your current SIM card from the phone.
This is why it's important to either memorise your SIM unlock code or keep it at hand. Just re-enter your unlock code and you'll be fine.
The OP's question is certainly not a NOOB question.
This is a common problem with what apparently seems codes purchased. When you install a new ROM or make certain changes, it asks for the code to be re-entered. Nobody seems to have a solution for this yet! Upon re-entering the code, the phone will work fine.

I have this problem, but what code i need to re-entering? PIN,PUK...?
Sounds like you need to purchase a sim unlock code from an internet retailer if the code was not included with your original purchase.

If you goto fastboot (volumeup + volume down + power), what does it say in the lines of "baseband version" and "carrier info"?
aren't all galaxy nexus factory unlocked? so it should work with any network right out of box.
Unlocked phone showing same problem
Hi everyone,
Sorry to piggy back on this thread, but I thought this might be helpful.
I bought an unlocked phone (NEVER locked to any carrier) which was working fine for 3 days. Suddenly this morning, it asks for the "SIM network unlock PIN".
I have not modified the device in any way, it is original with locked bootloader, not rooted, etc.
The SIM had not been removed in the time period, and the device had not been turned off. I had it on airplane mode overnight, then it showed the problem in the morning.
Its not a simple SIM pin code, it asks me for that when I boot the device, and accepts my pin, then follows with the message above which I gather to mean it is locked to some carrier or other.
Running Android 4.0.4
Baseband: I9250XXLA2
Build number: IMM76I
Unfortunately I can't even buy an unlock code, because I don't know what carrier it thinks its locked to.
Maybe this is an indication of a deeper problem on this phone, not just related to replacement ROMS.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Jakrapup

No. People, if you don't know enough about the subject or enough to read the whole thread, don't comment. Some GSM phones are sim-locked like DoCoMo and evidently some Vodaphones and I'm sure more.
Also, there is a questions and answers forum. This isn't it.

I had same prob and used the do como solution it works 100%
I managed to sort my problem out without rooting, but it indicates something fishy is going on.
The phone was sold to me 'unlocked'. I contacted the vendor who promptly gave me an unlock code (I thought unlock codes were carrier specific... so which carrier is this code for? No idea, shouldn't even have had one!).
I'm starting to wonder if the vendor had bulk purchased locked phones from overseas (phone arrived in a french box), purchased the unlock codes, unlocked the phones, and then sold the phone on...
The vendor does tell me that the phone is supported by the local Australian warranty despite the french packaging, and the presence of an unlock code indicating it was purchased from a telco?
Anyway, problem appears to be solved, though I have no idea what triggered the lock in the first place.

Who did you buy the phone from? Was it kogan? And was the box sealed when u got it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Not Kogan,
I took a risk and bought from an Ebay store, rated as a top seller with a very high score, but you never know.
The box was sort of sealed, doubt it was the original seal. The seal was plain white, no writing or branding on it...
You get what you get with Ebay stores I guess

Is there any way to identify the original carrier of note 2?

I bought a second-hand note 2 on ebay, this guy tell me it's rogers phone, but it requires unlock code when i put in my rogers sim card. So i figured that this is not a rogers phone, and i need to unlock it. The problem is that, i can't get contact to the seller, and buy an unlock code on ebay requires information about the original carrier, or it will cost like $40. There is no carrier's boot up logo, nor carrier's custom apps, so is there any way i can identify the carrier? Thanks!
Not sure about finding the network but GalaxSim Unlock on the play store unlocked my phone (originally new and locked to o2 UK, but I was going abroad so needed to unlock it quickly to use a local foreign SIM).
Wasn't free but for a few £ it did the job. Does the box reveal anything about the network? Not that it'll help get your SIM working... I'd be unlocking and then flashing a rom/wiping the caches to make sure it was clean.

[Q] Travel Overseas and Use Local SIM card

Hello All,
I am traveling to Taiwan for several weeks. I would like to obtain a local sim card when I am there, and use it in my Verizon HTC One (M8). In the past, I would call Verizon and obtain the "unlock" code to allow me to roam on foreign systems. Must I do the same with the HTC One (M8) A while ago, in my random internet searching, I thought I saw something that said the M8 is a worked phone, and need not be unlocked to use a foreign sim. Just want to make sure I take care of what needs to be done before I find myself in a foreign land without phone service.
Thanks

If phone is unlocked it should also work with SIM card from another local (US) operator. This means you can double check this by inserting a friends SIM card from a different operator than the one you are using. Remember to change APN when testing data connection.

There is no such thing where a "certain" type of phone need not be SIM unlocked. It up to the carrier, and the AT&T and T-Mobile versions at least are SIM locked.
Although, I think (not certain) I saw someone here post that their Verizon version wasn't SIM locked? So the answer isn't clear.
EDIT: Just did a quick search, and it appears in fact the Verizon comes SIM unlocked out of the box:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694903
But apparently, the only M8 variant (of the "Big 4") that is unlocked out of the box:

SIM network unlock PIN

So I got my hands a new Nexus 5X from an EE retail store in UK, although I'm happy to use EE for everyday use there are times when I travel and need to swap SIMs due to black spots. Much to my horror and bemusement I discovered that my brand new 5X is indeed network locked, so there's that myth put to bed for non believers.
I have requested an unlock code from the network, unfortunately patience is not one of my strong points, does anyone know of any sites that offer an unlock for the 5X? I tried one this morning but it came back 'no code found'. If anyone knows of a site that can help, I'd appreciate a PM with the details.
Thanks.
For what is worth, I also got, from. my local carrier a brand new Nexus 5X. LG H790. Well, it turns out to be Network locked as well. Whenever the phone is turned on with the SIM in of another carrier it asks for: "SIM Network Unlock PIN"
I went on and bought online from two different companies sim unlock codes, from the first company: SimUnlock dot com was not able to found a code and after a few days, said so snd proceed to reimburse me.The second company: MasterUnlock dot com did return, very quickly (fte minutes after online purchase) a few codes, named
NCK NSCK SPCK CPCK SIMCK, tried the NCK and the SPCK as per the instructions received but none worked "unlock unsucessful", seems they are also reimbursing me.
So, I dont know whats next, as the carrier wont give out the unlock codes.
My Nexus 5X is locked to Mexico's carrier Telcel.
I have just had this exact same issue (EE UK). I didn't realise this was now a thing! I honestly thought these companies had grown up by now. but apparently not.
Has anyone come across a solution to these? If not, does anyone know if these codes are carrier specific and individual, or generic?
I'd appreciate any info anyone has on this as it's a new thing to me!

Verizon SIM in CARRIER UNLOCKED T-Mobile s8+ not working

Hi
I have a carrier unlocked T-Mobile s8+ and need to use a Verizon SIM in it and am getting errors trying to use a verizon SIM. The Verizon SIM is from another phone and is already registered. I put the IMEI number of the phone into Verizons web portal to test compatibility and it failed. Does that mean there is no way to get this combination to work? Does the IMEI need to be in the VZW database for this to work? Will flashing XAA guarantee this to work? Thanks for any help and advice.

do u have a tmobile phone, it is different than the carrier unlocked phone, those are 2 different models,
the carrier unlocked.. the sim is unlocked..
the tmobile is not carrier unlocked, and by flashing the firmware of the unlocked version, will NOT unlock the sim.. u will need to device unlock app with the tmobile phone 1st... and usually tmobile will NOT unlock unless u have paid it off and using on their system for 40 days..
others like me had it unlocked with days of service, cause we are tmobile customers for years already... I on the other hand bought the phone on ebay from someone who bought it from Samsung and the imei was not added to tmobile system and I had to call tmobile to add the imei which took about 3 days, then to call back to request the sim unlock which took another 3 days, the device unlock app unlocked the phone instantly...
that was my process for me to get the sim unlock... but if urs it not unlocked and is paid off, another way to get it unlocked it to give it to someone u know, let them use it and call tmobile to start the above process...
Hope that sums up what must be done...

Hi thanks for the explanation, I am pretty familiar with the differences between carrier (SIM) unlock and unlocked firmware as I have flashed Android in the past. I had the phone carrier (SIM) unlocked by T-Mobile through their app and I was still not able to use the Verizon SIM in my phone (not registered error). It turns out (and I found this out by reading through the many messages in this forum) that T-Mobile firmware apparently disables some frequencies that other carriers may use. Once I flashed the XAA unlocked *firmware*, I popped in my Verizon SIM and it worked like a charm. I hope this info is useful to someone at some time and I thank all of you for your contributions to getting this working. KUDOS!

Good to know, but sound weird, thought T-Mobile phones work for all gsm Sims just needing to change apn,
But now cdma merging with gsm, that's so much better as far as phones go, use any phone now from any provider.
Look how the s8 plus is all the same software and the same hardware, just different carrier stuff..

I thought it was weird too. Busted my head for a couple of days trying to figure it out. Is Verizon still CDMA? *scratches head*
Yes, their 3g and 2g networks are CDMA.
If you insert Verizon sim into T-mobile phone, you'll get LTE data, but you won't be able to make calls. Only data will work. T-mobile firmware support band 2, 4 and 13, so you should have data, but not phone service. If you don't have data icon, you'll need add Verizon apn.
FYI
Flashing the phone with G955U1 firmware fixed this issue. I am now able to use this successfully on Verizon.
