[HELP] TWRP replaced by stock recovery after updateh - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

Hello
I'm on MIUI 8.1.2 on my hydrogen and want to flash the latest MIUI 8.1.4.
I've downloaded the recovery rom and flashed it in TWRP but after first reboot TWRP replaced by stock recovery.
Help me what should I do to get out of this issue.
Thanks in advance

Common issue
Boot into edl mode and flash 8.1.3.0 fast boot image and then you will be able to flash twrp again
Something was changed in the bootloader

I think you don`t need to flash all the fastboot image to can flash TWRP again, just flash via fastboot, place your recovery in ADB folder, rename it recovery.img, fastboot will flashed but it seem that recovery it`s missed but the trick it`s only that don`t boot to recovery if you don`t execute after flash recovery the next command in fastboot: fastboot boot recovery.img, when you boot to recovery wipe cache and dalvik cache if it`s necessary three times untill recover your usual settings like language, bright and others.

Hi
I have flashed twrp in fastboot mode and inserted following command-
fastboot boot twrp.img
But my directly boots to system every time.
Similarly it gets stuck on lenovo boot logo when volume up + power button pressed
If I press volume up + power button again my device gets switched off.
I have followed tutorial but nothing is working
Help, please...

Can't get into recovery

I installed CM 11 on my Xiaomi redmi 1s,everything was working fine except for 2 or 3 little things but a major problem occurred when I thought of flashing another ROM and now I CANT ACCESS RECOVERY MODE no matter what I try. I tried the button combination(power switch+volume up), tried adb and even tried apps like ROM Manager and, TWRP Manager and quick boot but haven't found any luck. Whenever I try to boot into recovery the phone gets stuck on the MI boot logo. I need to flash another rom and can't seem to find any other way to wipe y phone data, cache and dalvik cache and so I need help to counter this issue.
Please help me.

Flash any custom recovery via fastboot mode
Download .img format of custom recovery
Boot into fastboot mode n run this command on CMD
fastboot flash recovery <filename>.img
Filename can be anything depending on name of image file you download

I am afraid this solution doesn't work for me. My thoughts are that I have somehow lost my recovery partition. I accidently installed CM 11 without first installing a custom recovery. My bad! but have yet to find a solution that works.
Try flashing a recovery using Rashr-flashtool
And boot to recovery (Vol up + Power , for 10s even after screen is on )

I solved my problem by using Flashify app but I had to use it every time as recovery would not stick. I flashed trwp and installed stock (english version) rom and stock recovery and everything is working fine again. I will not make the same mistake again. I have since installed CWM recovery through stock recovery so now I can flash roms in peace again.

Phone can boot into fastboot, and system but wont go into recovery

Hi guys i flashed the 3.5.3 CM today but i decided to go back with 3.26 again, so i followed a guide that tells me to install stock recovery over twrp before i install the rom but after i fastboot flash the recovery i cannot go into the recovery anymore.
i tried to flashed the modified twrp and then boot to recovery but still wont open it.
the phone works and can go into fastboot still but it just wont access recovery
anyway to fix it? sorry if this has been discussed before. im on a mac for more info
TIA

Is your OS booting?
yea
Got the same problem here. Can boot into system and fastboot but if boot to recovery i get the oneplus logo and the bootloaderscreen and then i get a black screen where i should get my recovery. And if wanna Force shutdown my oneplus it freezes somehow. I tried everything to fix this with no result. Stock recovery doesnt work too.
Hi I just had the same problem, I have sent it back to Oneplus for repair. According to the ticket, I had a faulty motherboard, which has been replaced. If you can, do it. I only had to wait for a week before it was sent back.
Had the same problem last night. Following method nr 2 in thos thread solved it.

using fastboot to wipe the recovery partition then fastboot flashing modified twrp twice worked for me, i think the oneplus recovery image thats doing the rounds doesn't want to play nice lol
If youre phone boots in to system, download Flashify from play, flash recovery.img (you need to extract .img file). Go to recovery to check if it works. If not try other recovery.
after flashing the community build i cant boot my device in fastboot mode, it wont start the recovery or boot the system sucessfully.

If your device is unlocked, flash the recovery.img from fastboot.
You can download TWRP for oneplus 3 from their site.
Rename the downloaded recovery to recovery.img.
And open fastboot in the path of the recovery image.
Use the command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Hopefully this helps

managed to fix it the other day, by flashing the modded twrp.. somehow that one worked after that i flashed the 3.26 plus the 3.26 modem ones because if i didnt, my touch screen wont work...
For me, I flashed the twrp from fastboot.
But still the 1+ logo shows when I try to boot in to recovery for 5 sec and shuts down with 2 dots of lights in the navigation button area
The normal boot is working fine. Did flash the recovery using apps like TWRP Manager, Flashify etc. It will show successfulll. But when I try to boot in to recovery, same result.
Please help

The first boot after flashing TWRP need to be into recovery so TWRP could use his scripts to block the automatic restore of the stock recovery.
Also try the last TWRP version 3.2.1

Done this several times, but I didn't use hard buttons, instead i used fastboot boot recovery.img command to reboot to recovery after flashing recovery. I also tried rebooting to recovery from twrp without problem, but after rebooted to system, twrp reverted to stock recovery, everytime.
I didn't have this problem with MIUI 10.3.1.0 with the same TWRP.
edit : I'm using TWRP 0330 btw, and somehow there was no swipe to allow modification confirmation when the phone rebooted to twrp for the 1st time after flashing twrp.
Wonder why.

Tks, but I don't have problem with TWRP 0330, it works fine, including touch screen, the problem is TWRP get replaced by Stock Recovery everytime I boot my my phone to system.
I don't want to root my phone, just like to have TWRP recovery around so I can use it to flash hosts file for ads blocking and some other things.
Someone told me i need to flash lazyflasher...I'm going to do it later ..

No. don´t try to boot to recovery from fastboot after to flash it, don´t flash it through fastboot.
Do the next three steps and see what happens but do it exactly the same or won´t worth the try:
- In fastboot delete recovery partition by typing fastboot erase recovery
- Then reboot to recovery (don´t flash it yet) by typing fastboot boot twrp.img (rename recovery image firstly to twrp)
- Now once in TWRP flash the zip or image to the recovery partition, when you finish go to Reboot options within TWRP and choose recovery to boot to it before to boot up to system. If you boot at this instance to TWRP then the issue have to be solved, reboot normally to system.
Edit: If this way the problem is not solved then after to install TWRP flash Magisk that can prevent it to be overwritten.

Root global 10.2

Been searching, but I'm feeling a little lost. Is it possible to root mix 3 on global rom 10.2 ?
Bootloader is unlocked ,but I don't know where to go from here .
Thank you.
I don't have my mix 3 yet (should be delivered in a couple of days), but from what I've gathered, yes, you can (assuming your mix 3 is global too).
There's a TWRP_perseus you can use on this forum, but when you flash it, you have to boot in it holding vol+ and power, the command fastboot boot recovery won't work.
Then you can flash magisk v17.1 or v17.3, as v18 is known to have some trouble.
But you may want to wait confirmation from someone who actually has the phone already.
I have a global Mix 3 and global 10.2 ROM, root works fine with Magisk 17.3. The procedure is the same as Chinese Version, flash TWRP followed by Magisk 17.3 zip.

Is stock camera working for you? I've read a couple cases in which root breaks camera functionality.
Yes the stock camera still works.

I have stucked on rooting global 10.2 for few days.
I usually use fastboot command to boot in to recovery, didn't think of using the button to enter twrp after flash.
Now my phone works fine with magisk 17.3, Thanks a lot!
after booting in to fastboot I try to flash twrp by the following command;
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
No response.
Trying both adb devices and fastboot devices I find my phone attached.
Anyone have any pointers to what might be the issue?
thanks
Hi I also want to root my device but my computer can't find my device in fastboot mode. Do you have drivers I can install? I tried installing those from Google but the problem still persists.
Try and USB 2.0 socket on your PC or an USB 2.0 Hub, this worked for. I have no idea why USB 3 does not work.

So you don't need to flash a patched boot.img at all? It's literally as simple as unlocking the bootloader, flashing TWRP_perseus, rebooting to TWRP again, and then flashing Magisk 17.3?
Yes, if you have actual Global hardware, you flash twrp, press and hold vol up and power to reboot to recovery (you cannot use commands, atleast with CN hw). Then flash Magisk. If it bootloops, you have CN or other hardware, and you need the Magisk module I created to hide your hardware origin.
Trying to flash on a different computer did it for me. My phone is now rooted. Must have been a driver issue as I did everything exactly the same way as on the first computer. Thank you everyone for your help!
Hey guys, I am very new to Android since i switched from iPhones now to the Mi Mix 3 (EU Version). I unlocked the bootloader already and have the adb drivers installed and when I try to boot into TWRP using "fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img" into "fastboot boot TWRP.img" it will boot back into MIUI. I also tried some methods mentioned in various forums like
"1. Put phone in the fastboot mode (switch it off, then press and hold power + volume down for a couple of seconds)
2. Flash twrp through fastboot (fastboot flash recovery twrp.img)
3. Boot TWRP (fastboot boot twrp.img)
4. When phone screen become black, hold power + volume up until it vibrate then release all
5. The phone will boot into twrp "
but I never get the phone to go into the TWRP recovery mode. It either boots back into MIUI or into the MIUI Fastboot screen. Has anyone an idea? Should I try to reinstall the drivers or what could be the issue?
Thanks a lot in advance!
The Magisk zip file you flash in twrp does the patching for you, that's exactly what it's for in fact.

You must do the "fastboot flash recovery twrp_perseus.img" command and then hold VOL UP + POWER. You CANNOT use the "fastboot reboot recovery" command it does not work. The TWRP image we have sucks and I have been asking some people for some better directions so I can build us a working english TWRP image, but no one has replied to PMs yet.
