Urgent help - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Moms lg g4 is doing a bootloop and would not turn on and i did some research that the motherboard needs to be replaced.
My Nephew just passed away 2 days ago ( only 5 years old ) and all his pictures were on her phone and his funeral is on friday is there a possibility to retrieve these pictures? i can pay anyone that can help. Thanks

I'm very sorry for your loss
I haven't tried this myself (i just sent mine to LG, regardless of potential data loss), but when mine bootlooped I came across some things that I dug up for you, maybe it helps.
First of all, the possibility to "disable big cores" and make the bootlooped phone able to boot up again (and hopefully recover your data!)
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg4/comments/45gfg2/dae_g4_series_msm_big_core_disable_tool_guide/
Alternatively, disassemble the phone and "treat" the chip with hair-dryer/hot-air-gun to "resolder" loose connections . . .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-bootloop-fix-how-unbricked-video-t3499665
Some ppl even managed to get it working for a short amount of time by putting it in the freezer
That's all I know, wish you best of luck!

Thank you so much for the info. ill try them tonight.

[Q] Looping + Volume down not working

Hi
I have a serious problem. In short, my phone is starting normally until it reaches to the Lock Screen it hangs there for a sec then it will restart and keeps like this until it is out of battery. Also for me the volume down button doesnt work at all meaning I cant reach to Bootloader.
Details:
One day my HOX fall into my fish tank but I was able to take it out immediately and put it into bag of rice and it survived with two things not working: headset input and the Volume Down button.
Ok. I had no problems without them until last night. I have Android Revolution HD but dont know which version I dont remember. I wanted to go back to stock. And here what I did as much as I can remember:
- Flashed secure BOOT.IMG. I took it out from RUU 1.29.415.
- Flashed Recovery also took it from RUU.
- Relocked it.
Until now I had no problem I was able to use HTC Quick Root to restart to bootloader. Actually After relocking it was rebooting always to bootloader. I was never able to go to Recovery at all.
The real problems started when UNLOCKED it again.
Now what is going on is that it is looping as I mentioned at the beginning. I CANT go to bootloader because of the button problem. And Mainly the HTC Quick Root cant recognize it when I connect it to My Laptop although I'm sure the laptop does.
I tried RUU a time and it showed me version error.
Please advise. I am desperate I cant afford buying a new phone. What should I do?
Hope those fishies didnt fry !

No the tank was empty I was filling the tank only.
Update:
I have just uninstalled HTC drivers from my laptop and installed them again. When I connect my HOX - it is turned off- I got the following :
USB Composite Device --- Ready to use.
USB Mass storage --- Ready to use.
MyHTC -- Ready to use.
HTC Android Phone USB Device --- Ready to use.
But the problem remains as it is.

Take it apart and wash it with isopropyl alcohol. You should be able to find some guides for this type of thing.

Well, the question is Why the program wont see it connected while it will be recognized by the laptop even if the mobile is off ? I just need a way somehow to go to the bootloaders.

The more you use it, the less likely you'll be able to fix it. You need to disconnect the battery.
Impurities in the water will short the electronics and fry them.
The alcohol will help dissolve the impurities and clean the components, it will evaporate without leaving a nasty residue.
Good luck, but don't hold out too much hope.

Find a repair shop and see if they'll take on a water-damage repair. If they dont seem confident (like they've done it before - they might confidently express doubt!), try another.
WOW. I was able to go to Fastboot simply by pressing the Volume down hard, REALLY HARD.
So now I am confused and scared what to do.
flash a rom!!

I suggest to flash a new rom,( if your hox bootloop or stucks at bootloader)... if battery is empty, charge it with a charge script.
hope it help you.

[Q] Is my Galaxy S3 i747 seriously hard bricked?

(NOTE THAT I AM ONLY EXPLAINING IN *DETAIL SO THAT SOMEONE MAY BE ABLE TO CORRECTLY ANALYZE THE PROBLEM)
Okay, so I got my new AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III less than a month ago.
My friend helped me in the past few days to root and install cyanogenmod 10. Everything was still fine, until I did something in some kind of pixel density changing app. When rebooting, it only showed the Samsung and Samsung Galaxy S III screens when booting up, but went no further. I wiped everything and restored the last backup I made (advanced restore). Everything ran fine again, with all the original factory stuff. I decided to try and see if I could reinstall cm10 (wiped everything, installed zip, rebooted), and it was successful. Then I decided I wanted to wipe that and try out Energy HD 2.0. Once trying to install the zip, it returned an error message and aborted. I then decided to scrap that idea and just go back to the original factory rom and everything. So I once again wiped and restored my last backup. Upon hitting Reboot, it just went black and didn't turn on again. Now I am completely unable to turn it on, charge it, go into cwm recovery, or download mode. Plugging into the computer just pops a driver install message for QHSUSB_LOAD. Never has anything, even the LED, so much as blinked.
Can somebody please help me? I just would like to know if there is a way to get it working. I'd be very grateful, thanks!
*detail, meaning just what I was doing, as I do not remember exact error codes and such.

Is it even possible to re-flash a recovery image (from Odin3) when the device cannot enter download mode?
I think it may have been CWM Recovery v5.0.4.2 or something that I originally installed/flashed (can't check right now though, because I was kicked off my computer). Then it had upgraded to v6.something later on my phone.

Yeah I would say your bootloader is messed up and the only way to breath life back into your phone is jtag repairs. I had a problem identicle to yours and I searched the net for a week solid trying to figure out how to fix it without having to fork over the money.. but alas had to send it. Luckily the guy who provides the repairs is amazing at what he does. Phone will be back in your hands within a few days if you're from the states.

Hmm, okay. I wonder then why only JTAG Repairs knows how to fix this stuff, and the information isn't widely available.
And so if I do send it to jtag, then I guess I'll be getting it back within a few days, 'cause I live in the US.
Thanks for your input.

Ah, I suppose you're right. Not to mention expensive. That equipment probably costs more than having them fix it. Though it would probably be worth it of you bricked it on a regular basis.

[Q] Nexus 7 Hardbrick! QHSUSB

First off my device is unlocked and rooted but that is it and I did that weeks and weeks ago when the latest android patch came out.
It has been working fine but I had a sleep over with the kids last weekend and they like to play with it as usual. After they left, hours later I noticed the device showing the google start screen like it was stuck there. I tried to get it into the boot loader or recovery and nothing. Now it appears dead, no lights, etc.
I tried charging and tried using the volume and power thing, etc to no avail. When connected to the pc I am gettng the dreaded QHSUSB_Dload thing.
#First question is there a fix for this? I have searched every where and have yet to find anything substancial other than the volume thing which is not working.
# second question is can I rma this or will it not be accepted due to it being rooted? There is no way I can bring it back to stock without accessing the bootloader.
#last question - If I cannot rms it can I take it apart and do something to repair it or is there anything I can do?
Thanks guys. This really sucks. i have never had an issue up until now and this thing is totally stock besides being rooted and unlocked.
Have you tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2381582
That will not work with a hard brick. I cannot get into bootloader or adb.

I'd try to send it back for repair. What do you have to lose?
What I have to lose is money. If I RMA it is possible for Google to keep the payment and I'm not about to buy another unit because one fails through nothing I did.

I understand that, but right now you have a $200 paper weight. So why not gamble on the s/h for the rma?
I think you are misunderstanding what I am saying.
Google basically makes you pay for a replacement. Upon inspection they refund the money. If they do not refund the money then I am out the full cost.
I could find that reasonable if I was playing around or something but I have kept my devices all stock ever since the latest version came out except for unlocking and rooting.
I guess the other option would be to find someone to do a jtag repair and I could only find one guy and I don't think he touches Nexus 7s. Not sure though but waiting for him to reply. This sucks! My device was perfect and I loved it.Great battery, no touch screen issues. Not a single issue and then all of a sudden this. i really cannot understand what caused it.
Thanks for the reply. I really figured there would be others this happened too but everyone gets Hard Brick mixed up with soft brick and every hard brick post I read is not a hard brick. Hard Brick = F#cked :crying:
I gotcha. I thought you paid to send it back & then you had the option to pay to fix it if it wasn't covered by warranty.
That could be through Asus directly but not sure.
I think though if they go to repair it they will see the unlocked boot loader. That voids the warranty

If it was mine I would take the back cover off and unplug the battery and let it sit for ~5 min. If there is a physical reset plug then push that in a couple times.

Yeah, if you know an RMA is a very very very poor shot / don't want to try it. I guess a tear down is your second best bet.
You should check out Adam Outler's tear down videos if you feel you might be able to take this on. I'll link Outler's videos below. They MAY help you in deciding if you want to go through with it (and what you may expect to see).

Thanks guys.
I finally got an email back from those guys that do Jtag repairs and he said it was a hardware issue but I am not sure if he understood my issue.
I do not think taking it apart and unplugging the battery will work here if the bootloader is corrupt. I am going to try to let the battery go completely dead though and then try to do the volume/power key thing to see if there is any chance.
I do not know much about this but what I read is that if the bootloader is stopped somehow while loading it can become corrupt in some cases and you cannot do anything without it and there is a device specific key involved. That is why only someone with some specific software can fix it. I thought this key as called Jtag but again, I do not know much about this. The Jtag guy said it was hardware.
Man, I have an Hp touchpad that I got years ago. I installed Android on it years ago and have it overclocked it to over 1700mhz and that thing is still going strong. The kids even dropped it and it has a crack in the screen and it still will not die. Here I have a Nexus only a few months old fully stock except for root and unlock and it is dead. Kills me especially after the way I always stand up for the Nexus line. Still loving my Nexus 4 though and it is well over a year old. Oh well, if that one goes like this one I am jumping off a high bridge.

I am confused as to why you are so sure what is wrong with it, how do you know the bootloader is corrupt if you claim no wrong doing. Also technically speaking you did do something to begin with, you knew full well that you would be voiding the warranty by rooting and installing a custom recovery. More than likely if kids messing with it actually did end up with it how it is now they probably accepted an OTA and it corrupted the boot, on the LG G2 they have figured out how to delete the FOTA information that it continuously tries to boot from and return normal boot sequence.
But I reiterate you cannot blame this on anyone but yourself right now, being angry with ASUS or the kids will do you no good. You knowingly voided your warranty now it is time to put your nose down and see if you can fix it, there are a lot of resources here to do such.

First off, I am not sure what is wrong with it which is why I am posting here. I stated numerous times that I do not know much about this.
And yes, I know this that rooting and unlocking voids the warranty. I also know that it is my fault for doing it but I have been doing it for around 3 years now and have used various roms and kernals in the paqs and have never had an issue. Perhaps it is a hardware issue. I just do not think this issue was caused by me.
In terms of the kids playing with the device. They play games, things like that. The desktop is locked and they have no access to settings or anything. When I said messing with it I just meant playing games though sometimes they open new games and leave the old ones running. I do not know how that would cause this.
There was no ota or update.
I am not sure what you are saying about LG.
And again, I am not angry with Google or Asus. My point was that this issue was most likely not caused due to rooting or unlocking and an ota would not cause a dhsusb issue even if it did go bad.Lets try to remember that nearly everyone here roots, unlockes and installs roms, etc. I have done so as well but not on this device. This one I wanted to keep pretty much vanilla but I wanted to be able to use Titanium back up, etc. And also, I rooted and unlocked months ago when I first got the device and had to root again when the latest version came out which was awhile ago.
In terms of fixing I have not found a solution for this. I do not know if it is a hardware issue or a software issue. That is why I am posting here. I am looking for some information from people who know this stuff. I know nothing but what I have read and so far I have read many different things. I am here to learn.
OK so here is what I meant with the G2..
I had a stock/rooted/TWRP G2 and half asleep accepted an OTA Update, when it does this it downloads the update into a partition that the device checks before booting. Because I had the custom recovery obviously the update failed but it left that code in the boot partition that would now allow me to even get into download mode. See this post here for how it was fixed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
I am not sure if this would be the same problem or how to go about fixing it because of the device difference, but maybe it could help? I didn't mean to come off as a ****, just far too many people like to get into their devices and void the warranty then blame everyone else.
It is really not difficult to pull the back cover off and unplug the battery, I suggest doing this it could very well help just be careful not to crack the back while pulling it off, a credit card/ID and a butter knife should do the trick without leaving marks.
No worries. I appreciate the help.
I agree with you totally.

Personally I would first delete spotify then reboot see if it fixes it,I personally don't think its the app spotify but worth a try. I would then also backup my data and try a factory reset. If that also does not work consider re flashing a new stock rom.

Hi, sorry to hijack the thread but my LG G3 d855 is exactly the same. on 29th December i noticed that the wifi wasn't connected to my home network, so did a reboot and still the same. I spent an hour or 2 googling this to find i wasn't the only one. Most had suggested a factory data reset, however said that this doesn't always work. I tried that and still the same so rang my network provider who passed me through to LG UK. It was booked in for a repair and collected on the 5th Jan. I got the phone back on the 26th Jan, and it took me less than 10 minutes to get the same wifi not connecting issue again. On the repair note it states they have changed the ic/pa/filter and updated the software to v20l (although I'm sure i was on later than that anyway). I rang LG again and it was collected the next day. I received the handset on tuesday, and the note this time said software updated, phone tested. I put the battery in, turned the phone on and within a minute found that the wifi would not turn on at all. I also noticed that the build version was V20h, which is a downgrade from the version that was on the phone when i sent it back to them.
I have rang LG again, and was told that they would look at it, but that i might need a new phone. When i questioned the new phone statement and asked why i needed to buyt a new phone, the woman didnt answer me. Anyway, the phone is getting collected today, and i really dont hold out much hope that it will be repaired. I have mailed LG direct to complain about this but i am at the point where i might move away altogether from LG. I am stuck until June waiting for my contract to expire, but am so frustrated with LG and their repair service as they have had my phone over a month now and havent fixed it.
This phone (g3) have bad quality components....my last lg....back to Samsung....I want my S5 again or a new S7 or note 4. Fantastics super amoled displays, great conections, all works. I'm tired of suffering...kkk

Well, update so far is they have "repaired" the handset and its on its way back to me so will get it on monday. I was going to bet a guy at work that it wouldnt be repaired but he wouldnt take the bet. if its still not fixed i think i need to go down the replacement route. I have tried to be polite about this, but the fact that they have ignored 3 emails from me trying to raise a complaint, numerous tweets and facebook messages is making me feel like LG are not a company that can be trusted. I realise that I am a tiny insignificant stone on the bottom of their shoe and am meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but i've never dealt with a company that simply ignores you....
I will update on monday when i turn the phone on
So as a follow up, I got the phone back on Monday and so far it is working fine, WiFi is connecting with no problems. The fix that has been reported is replacing the mainboard. 1 niggle now though is that there is now a hiss in the headphones that comes and goes which wasn't there when i sent the phone in for the million repair attempts. I cant be bothered to go through the hassle of reporting it and sending it off for repair so I'm just going to live with it (its not too bad, just annoying when the music is quiet or paused). I only have a couple of months before I can upgrade, and had thought about a G4 or G5 but after the past 2 months i don't think i'll bother.

so sorry for late reply, didnt know you had asked a question. Mine was done under warranty (apparently LG have a 2 year warranty with Three) so mine was fixed under that. I would guess that it would of been about 100 quid though for the work that they did, if not more. It took them far too many attempts to fix it though, which has left me with a bitter taste towards LG, so not sure whether to get the G5 next, the G4 or move onto a different make altogether

I actually havent got it repaired and im still using it. I called lg and they told me there was a one year warranty on the g3 so im just keeping it until i decide on a new phone to get

LG G4 (H815) variant shuts off and doesnt respond........ Need photos recovered :(

Hello guys,
I have a LG G4 H815 variant which shut off while talking on the phone. I did not install any new apps or anything new but got OTA update from LG 2-3 days before this happened.
I removed the battery and after I kept it back, and sometimes LG logo comes and then phone shuts off. Few times it also rebooted like 3-4 times by itself but did not pass the lg logo screen.
Now comes the most important thing, we recently had a baby (5days ago) and have all the photographs and videos of birth and delivery in this phone. I need that to be recovered, so please help with this first and then may be fix the phone next.
So hard reset of the phone is not an option I suppose. I also tried connecting to windows/Mac and system doesnt recognise the phone
I really appreciate any help from you guys.
sounds like you have the lg bootloop bug people have kept trying and eventually the phone has started

So do you mean to send it to UK..... I called US LG support, they said to contact UK support.... they said, they can only send packages to Uk to send the phone for repairs. What about the data on phone? I need the very important photos of my newborn.
try the freezer method

I brought the phone back to the shop where I bought it, as I had a 2 year warranty with them. They sent it to one of their repair centers and in 8 days it was fixed for free.
I suggest to try the freezer method posted above and hopefully it will boot and you can manage to get your photos off the phone.
In case it won't boot all or just sits on the LG logo, then it is hard to recover as (probably) they have to replace the whole motherboard (like in my case) and it is unlikely they will bother with recovering data. However you may ask them very nicely, but they might just ignore it.
