fake lineageos? - LineageOS Questions & Answers

There are several websites offering lineageos roms (try 'lineageos download'). May we assume they are fake, hacking attempts?

There are some sites with unofficial compiled versions. These are maintained by some people that can be found (most of the time) at the LineageOS IRC on freenode

When there are official builds, there will be a blog post at http://lineageos.org/.

Guys, but why are you still using Mokee, aren't they including malware in every ROM now? :/

My solution is very simple Root Explorer and delete all parts of the MoKee from /system/app

Those Chinese apps is not exactly malware. Because is not useful for me I've uninstalled it with Titanium and recover some ROM. Also I replace the Mokee launcher and keyboard and make a very reliable and stable OS ( 4950 pts under Antutu 4.1.4).

And how is it that it's "not exactly malware"? Is it just partially malware? Almost malware? Maybe malware? Or is a "variant of Android/TrojanDownloader.Adload.B trojan" really just not that bad?
And then when people caught on to it they also modified the keyboard app too... but nah... can't be that bad, since they are actually fixing many bugs that aren't being taken cared of by serious developers that contribute directly to XDA, right? Oh wait, their change log doesn't really reflect anything different than what's already being taken care of by other developers who are actually compiling and programming for our Defy...
As a tip, you can and should delete those apps before flashing (with 7zip), that way they aren't ever run on your phone; once you flash the first thing that will start up will be the keyboard.

maybe the correct term is adware? For the rest: I found that ROM to be the most stable, battery efficient and with all the settings I need. 'till now the rest of 4.3 custom ROMs do not comply with the above needs and the 4.4.x is not enough mature. The only problem with Mokee 4.3 is that SistemUI slowly growing which suffocate the RAM and need periodical reboot -but that appear to be common to 4.3.x . Those grow seems to be closely related to apps installation and update.

Hardly the point. First of all, the fact that they have to hide it in an app most people will need to start up the ROM is shady at best. Second of all, regardless of how AV companies label the malicious software they find, a trojan downloader is essentially a backdoor for the app developer to open it and to deliver a payload that can behave differently than just "adware", without the user's consent or knowledge. That fact alone should make people think twice before installing/using this ROM, especially once people are aware that the developer's intentions are not necessarily intentions that promote the improvement and development of Android.
People can choose what they want, just my two cents on why we are tolerating malware, adware, trojans, or whatever you want to call it. There are a lot of people who also frequent these forums who won't know how to delete the malicious apps before flashing, regardless of whether they should be able to or not.
It's different when you have to mod things to your liking or to improve functionality, but hidden and persistent malware/adware placed by the developers themselves...?
We shouldn't have to tolerate that...

Completely agree with you. Personally I think this ROM should be banned from XDA, where piracy and even promoting your paid themes isn't allowed. For me it is unimaginable that a trojanned ROM can be posted. discussions about how easy it is to remove don't matter, like you said. Hence I have reported to the mods.
@ others: Yes people can choose what they want, like antiga said, but on XDA the choice of installing trojans shouldn't even exist. There are shadier websites one can visit to get their trojan fixes.
Thread currently closed
Ok, 2 things.
1) Thread moved to General, as it's just links to the MoKee site, as it appears the OP is not an official maintainer, and just posted links. As such it does not qualify as development.
2) Thread is currently closed pending investigation of current MoKee practices.
In the past MoKee had been known to included adware in their apps. Did they include Malware? Depends who you talk to. However, MoKee was discouraged at XDA, along with MIUI ROMs which also operate under a similar principle.
However, MoKee claims to be "Open Source" and their github seems to reflect that.
It is advisable however, to remove any suspicious apk's just to be safe until a disposition is made. And considering it's a Chinese ROM with a past reputation, might want to change keyboard apk's as well
Thread closed for the time being.

Did Google release all the code for the 5X yet?

Just curious since I'm wondering when development on ROMS and kernels will begin. Thanks!

So far after looking at the Nexus binaries page, and the sources for device trees, and kernel repositories found here Google hasn't updated it yet. I imagine they will shortly as more devices are shipped to people.
Don't think so. Once they do it should show up here: https://android.googlesource.com/

No Official Lineage OS 15.1 for MARLIN :( Because of no Developer...

I just chatted with someone at Lineage OS and they are looking for a Developer for Marlin for Lineage 15.1. He is stating there will be no Official Builds because they have any Devs with the device and i told him i would help find someone who would like to take over Lineage OS for Marlin. If your interested, this person is asking for your gerit username i'm guessing to see your work. Please let me know if your interested in taking over Official Lineage OS builds for Marlin at your earliest conveinence or you can contact Lineage OS yourself from the information below on how to become a Developer...
Thanks in advance,
TJ
From Lineage OS Website :
For developers
Contribute!
To contribute, you’ll need to be able to produce builds for your device. Pick your device from our list of supported devices to get started.
Once you’re successfully running your own build, you can begin to make your changes. All the apps included in LineageOS can be found in packages/apps, and core parts of the system can be found in frameworks/base.
Once you’ve finished making your change, simply follow our guide on submitting to Gerrit.
Submit your port!
If you unofficially maintain a device, and think it’s good enough to go live, follow our instructions on submitting a port. One of our developer relations staff will reach out to you, and we’ll work to get the ball rolling on official builds for your device.
Thanks again!
*edit*
If this developement stops, so will the few custom ROMs we have being they are LOS based so if there are any free and no tied up at the moment, or wants to take on another project, PLEASE do this for the Pixel XL Custom ROM Community! Not only I would gladly appreciate your hard work but so will many others in the community. I will even donate $$$ if thats what it takes for the build and for at least weekly updates.

Yea I contacted him via PM and let him know the situation with Official Builds are that they are looking for an Official Builder.
I hope you all understand the work it entitles to take on a rom project.. you really shouldn't ask people to take over someone else's work unless this dev asks themselves...

I was informed by a Lineage OS Developer that there will be NO MARLIN Official Lineage OS Builds going out any time soon, it happens that they dont even have a Dev for our Device and i;m guessing they dont have our device either... I am just putting it out there, and there may or may not be someone qualified with the time to do it. But if we get official Builds, we'll get alot more Custom ROMs...

Kernel development

Is there anything that would be interested in a custom kernel or maybe custom roms for this device? I can pick one up pretty cheap on eBay, just wondering what the landscape if the community is here.
From what I could see on GitHub, some developers tried to use the kernel sources, but it seems that OnePlus forgot to release some parts of it. So for now no one has created any roms or kernels, there is just an unofficial TWRP.
I'm quite good with recreating the kernel sources, I have done so for the N10, N200 5G, and a few other devices. See here. The missing parts are mostly Qualcomm specific code they keep in CAF repositories. Until my device touches down in my mailbox I'll need some testers. I'll have the kernel source completed well before then.
Sorry but personally I don't think I can help testing, since it's my main device I'd rather avoid having to erase my data every time.
That's understandable. You wouldn't happen to have a boot.img I can start with? The stock firmware doesn't have the files broken up individually.

Question Official Lineage OS

Does official lineage os exist for munch? Or at least unofficial but maintained build?
I don't think so. We must wait.
If you don't mind to build it your self, you could use the source from ArrowOS which maintained by madmax7896(thanks madmax!!!).
I've build lineage19.1 (20.0 is running) with some mods but I lack of ability to maintain/improve the ROM. So just build it and use it for fun.

Good enough for me. I've got the bootloader unlocked and might just wait until Lineage goes official before flashing anything.
Unless anyone else is finding any of the currently avilable roms stable enough for daily driver?
Any news?

The Github project that is referred to by alfZKI contains kernels for various devices like lmi or alioth but not munch.
There is a common kernel repository but there don't seem to be many much munch-related commits - but that could be alright.
I've scrolled through the Telegram group https://t.me/PocoF4updates and it seems like SebaUbuntu is the central figure to make the LineageOS bringup happen.
But judging on what he had to say in 17 July (https://t.me/s/SebaUbuntuBlog?) it looks to me like he had little interest in that. His release schedule for LOS20 (17 October) doesn't contain munch either.
But I've probably looked in the wrong direction.
Can you shed more light on where development for LOS happens zelos156?

SparkOS and EvolutionX both great very stable and great battery life. Definetly better then that MIUI garbage that hasn't been updated for freaking 4 months.

Unfortunately we have to wait. But at that moment the person who was supposed to take it gave up. I don't have enough knowledge myself to do it... We have a Los-based crdroid. This is already a very good sign.
