Same phones different camera... - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hi there,
(Just a quick warning, my first post so if anything i can do to improve for the future please tell me!)
Okay so i recently purchased two OnePlus Three phones for Christmas. When they arrived everything was fine with the phones and no massive difference was noticed until the other day where myself and my sister (owner of the second phone) were comparing pictures we took on the phone and i noticed her's is insanely grainy in comparison to my crisp clear picture. I cannot attach the pictures to the post because i haven't posted more than 10 posts . I checked all the settings on the phones and had them as the same and still no improvement, her's is still grainy while mine is still sharp. I even went as far as factory resetting her phone but still no luck. Is it possibly that she just got a dodgy phone is all? or is it more deep than that? Any feedback is appreciated and if you need any extra info on the devices feel free to ask! Cheers :good:

Are you sure the camera on your phone wasn't set on HQ while her phone's camera was set on HDR? The HQ settings filters out noise / grain after the shot...

Afraid not.... I initially thought that was the issue but after side by side testing them and making sure everything was the same on the phones regarding all settings for the camera and brightness... Still the same graininess from her camera

Well... More people need to chime in. But I don't think there are two identical cameras, lol. I guess there are small differences in all. But... grainy... that's something else.

Camera Problem? (not the pink thing!)

Had a very occasional issue with my camera where, after a couple of seconds, the live-view image starts "rolling", sometimes losing a colour channel. It only seems to have happened in "Layar" app so far but that may be co-incidence (I dont use the camera much).
Anyone else having problems like this? I'll try catch it on vid and upload. Just worried that there may be a hardware prob but, like I say, its only occassional.
Also happens in Goggles and normal camera application. Looks like its broken
Grrr, mobiles.co.uk being real unhelpful so far

Problem Video
Finally managed to catch the camera problem on Video!
In talks with Mobiles.Co.Uk at the moment about a replacement handset but would be interested to know if anyone else has seen/experienced this?

Hey there,
Just to let you know, I've had exactly the same issue with my Desire. I contacted O2, and they said that I could get a replacement handset. Despite them mucking me around a bit - the phone is out of stock and they didn't bother to tell me this - it basically confirms that it's a manufacturer's fault.
It would explain why not all handsets are getting this. But if even 1% of all Desires are getting this, that's still a hefty amount. Not widespread enough for places like Engadget to post about it, but annoying enough to ruin the experiences of a fair few HTC customers worldwide.
I got the same issue, too.
Seems more like a software issue. Sometimes ot occures when you point the camera to a bright object. It only happens then in 20-50%.
Do you have to get a new replacement Desire with that?
(threade title says "not the pinkt thing" - but as far as I can see - this IS PINK in your video!)
I got the problem too. Not seen it for around a week now though.

Today I experienced the same problem. My screen was divided into half, one half being pink and the other in sepia. I disappeared soon though. Also a friend tells me that my photos taken with Desire are way too blurry. Can anyone confirm that by looking at some of them at http://mariotomic.com/blog?
Thanks.

Picture Quality switching to a ICS ROM?

Did a quick search and didn't see anything. I don't know if it's my mind playing tricks on me or if it's just switching phones. Was on the SIII for a bit and just switched to a SII until more dev support is out.
The E4GT was 100% virgin stock earlier today.
I rooted and it was fine.
After installing Caluklin's 1.6 it seems like the picture quality dropped. Text seem to have rugged/fuzzy edges.
Am I imagining things or did I miss some dpi goods?
If this is crazy talk, just tell me. The only thing I changed was the display mode and set it to dynamic. Switched back to standard and it's still the same.

Well when I say picture, I don't mean the camera. I mean over all anything. Seems like something happened even on the home screen. The whole display looks rough.
Dynamic Screen Mode causing rough edges in ICS
I just received the over the air ICS update this morning and immediately noticed the same thing with the screen clarity.
After messing around with it all day I found out that it's only evident when the "Screen Mode" is set to "Dynamic"
A huge disappointment since the colors on the Epic 4G Touch pop like nothing else in dynamic mode.
But it seems ruined or at least not worth putting up with the jagged edges everywhere to have dynamic mode on now.
i have been asking about this for months. im glad to finally see someone else noticed it. it bothers me so much I am sticking to gb

it never came across my mind that it was intentionally, especially because i was using custom roms from leaks, in fact because so little people even notice it, it would kind of defeat the purpose wouldnt it?
it clearly doesnt look as good as gb on more than one eg4t i have tried, i guess everyone has different eyesight, ICS doesn't work for me on this phone because of it. disappointing. thanks for your help
Funny that I never noticed this before. Most likely because I had my phone set to 'standard' instead of 'dynamic'. When I did the change to dynamic & tested different apps I did notice jagged edges while on ICS.

Jap, i also try that, nothing changed..
Picture actually looks pretty good for it to be a low light indoor shot. Plus your computer monitor casts a light bleed on your picture. Have to remember this is a camera on a phone and not a high end dslr camera. So pictures in low light can always come out bad and grainy.

Grain in dark pictures are expected. I have a canon 5d mkIII and even with a full-framed sensor, it'll still pick up some grain. Our phone does pretty well for the size of the sensor. Wouldn't sweat it unless the purple hue attacks
This is a well-documented issue with the One.
HTC says it should be fixed in software on the 4.3 update. I'm not 100% convinced. If it's not fixed, I'll be getting rid of the phone. My low-light pictures are awful compared to other phones I've owned.
As for the Canon guy.. I'm sure you have way more settings you can change over the phone's setting to make your 5D pics better
Thank you guys for yours answers,i will play again with my phone's camera's settings. I thought that the Ultrapixell kamera is perfect in low-light. i as wrong..

I didn't know the grainy pics was "well documented." I only know of the purple hue issue. If I use the night setting it helps a lot and I've been pleased with the pics, better than my S4 in many settings.
I suppose you could try night mode, maybe with a low iso to see how your pics look.

Search "htc one camera issue" and you will get a google's worth of results of discussions on the topic.
Purple Hue and Grainy are pretty much the same issue, or I have both issues with two HTC Ones now. I tried every setting in the book. Nothing made it better. Night mode made them blurry on top of it, as I'm holding the phone at a very slow shutter speed, this was expected. Tried ISO as well. It just sucks.

I agree one hundred percent. I envy those of you that do not have this issue. I purchased mine second hand. To my knowledge, the warranty is non-transferable. Just hoping that the Verizon update will patch this, if it is not straight up hardware. I tried the 4.3 roms, but they are ports, and this probably goes deeper than just a surface flash.
If I may be so bold, please allow me to share my experience. I was having an issue with grainy pictures. When I covered my lens it would turn red. I sent a support request to HTC. They gave me the runaround for about 2 weeks saying to wait for 4.3, the software will fix it. Then they told me to use third-party camera apps. Eventually I got mad, closed the ticket. I sat there and fumed and then walked away. A day later I got a "tell us how we did" email. I laced into them and told them that I had a bad experience, that my camera is clearly defective and being told to use third-party apps that still have the issue isn't a fix. I got a response back and they asked if I had considered sending it for repair. I told them that I had never been given that option. The guy told me he was going to call me and he did. We talked for about 5 minutes, he took my info, he sounded like a cool guy. We joked a bit. He offered to pay shipping into HTC. I sent it in.
I got it back today. It's a night and day difference. It's actually catches focus like it should. When I cover the lens it stays jet black. It's a big difference. Send it back. Let them fix it. It sucked to be without it but it took them about a week round trip. It was worth it.

What did they "fix"? Did they state that in the repair documents? Are you still on the current OTA release of software? I'm wondering what the fixed for free that is the root of the actual problem.
I'm on my 3rd phone in 7 weeks now (for other issues than the camera), and I still have the issue.

They didn't share any repair document with me at all. They just shipped my phone back in a "gift" box with a screen rag. No documentation at all. I have to assume that they replaced or repaired the camera sensor. A month or so back there was a link in the forums about trying to narrow down if it was a sensor issue or not. They had us record the camera sensor version. It involved finding a particular file and then opening it in a text file. In any case, even then with only like 35-40 responses there were at least 9 different camera sensor versions. Also, my camera seemed ridiculously sensitive to motion. I don't have the most steady hands but I also don't have seizures every time I take a picture either. The old camera (or firmware) seemed to exaggerate any motion.
As for the OTA, I sent it to them with OTA .8. They shipped it back .10. I've since flashed NuSenseONE but I have a TWRP backup of the ROM as it arrived back to me.. plus logging into a few things. If there is anything in particular that you are interested in, such as a file version or something, let me know.

Nothing I'm particularly interested in. I was wondering if they owned up to it being software or hardware. I too, went through calling HTC, explaining the issue, going through an hours worth of diagnostics on my phone, before they told me it would be fixed in 4.3 release. Perhaps they have a 4.3 release that includes a camera sensor firmware update as well? Are are you suggesting that the camera versions are 9 different versions of hardware?
I don't know.. the camera on here just isn't what it's cracked up to be. It's great in PERFECT conditions, but sub-standard when not in perfect conditions.

I'm not at all sure what I'm suggesting now. I just went back to that survey and looked through the results, and it looks like there are literally 100's of different possible results from that sensors file. What I did find that is probably of no value at all is that my phone, before it was serviced had the following text in the sensor text file:
Before servicing:
st vd6869(1.0) cinesensor 2013-04-29
After servicing:
st vd6869(1.0) cinesensor 2013-09-16
I don't know if that is just a firmware revision, or the manufacturing date of the sensor itself, but if you look in that link to the survey results there are probably 50 different dates.
Here is something that may be of interest to you. The guy who started the thread mentioned sending it in to repair and they sent him the work order. They replaced his camera with a SHARP sensor and the results he posts are far superior to what he had before. Link here
Is this admission of guilt or just a result of part shortage? Or just typical hardware phase-out/phase-in.

Galaxy S9 camera quality downgraded after update

Hello guys,
First of all, thank you for all the help provided in these forums. I'm very glad that there's such a passion from this community that pushes every android device to its best. Congrats to you all!
I'm hoping guys to get some help, as my wife's phone, a Galaxy S9 (G960) after some android updates from these last months, the pictures from the camera actually got worse. The colours look washed out, and only after you do "post filtering" with the photo with the setting provided in the camera, the picture only then gets fine. It is not convenient that for every photo taken now we need to do some editing to make them look good with more vivid colours than before when you take a picture and it immediately looked fine from the beginning.
I've done a factory reset, cleaned the lens for any dirt, I've reset the camera setting to their default and nothing.
Can you guys give me some ideas regarding this? I've thought about sending the phone to Samsung for check but I don't have enough evidence to show them that the quality actually got worse....
Thanks in advance !
I am noticing some noticeable improvements over updates... No issues here.

HDR Yellow Tint

Hey folks,
I just got my Mi10T today. Pretty happy with it so far. But there seems to be an issue. Whenever I try to play an HDR video either through Youtube or Netflix the screen automatically turns yellow. I tried changing color settings but nothing seems to work. Does anyone else face this issue? Should I return the device? Or is it a software issue?
https://drive.google.com/file/d/100EV5Rv_h5LuD92Wb1YwhvSrFfqlIved/view?usp=sharing
Edit: Updated with a link to a video showing the issue. Although it isn't as clear on the video, you can clearly see how colors change in real life it's much worse there is an ugly yellow tint. I reset the phone twice to see if that fixes the issue but it doesn't.
Same here, i think it s a software bug.

Could you tell me what version of miui you are on and the region? This issue mainly seems to be on devices with Indian MIUI rom.
Look at the display section of this review of mi 10t pro from India and you will see the yellow tint compared to other devices. In real life, it's much worse.

So I was looking at the yellow tint again. This phone has some really weird viewing (tilting up and down) angles and depending on the angle the yellow tint seems to look less worse.
I'm wondering if it's the pre applied screen protector that's causing the weird effects. I ordered some tempered glass protectors so when I get them and take off the pre installed one, I'd check to see.

Hey folks,
I just got my Mi10T today.

Edit: Updated with a link to a video showing the issue. Although it isn't as clear on the video, you can clearly see how colors change in real life it's much worse there is an ugly yellow tint. I reset the phone twice to see if that fixes the issue but it doesn't.

Doing this definitely removes the "yellow tinting" in HDR but it also absolutely destroys the details in dark areas.
I think that's intended. HDR is supposed to be viewed as close as possible to the creator's intent. If you go to your TV and turn on the "cinema" or "movie" preset you'll see that the image turns warmer and yellowish and that's intended to be like that since the rest of the modes tend to abuse of the blue component of "white" to get more perceived brightness. Maybe the phone changes to this "movie" mode automatically for HDR to get closer to a neutral and calibrated preset.
