changelogs LineageOS 14.1 - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Changelogs found, look at the post below...

I found an app that will show what has been changed within lineageOS, you can download it easily in the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vasudevrb.cmchangelog

You can use https://www.cmxlog.com
It was restarted, so no device are shown for now, but you can see the whole changes.

Yes i know, i have had contact with the developer that made the app I referred to in the post above, and he told me that he got his sources from the site you referred to. I used his app already when it was cyanogen. So when cm stopped, the app didn't get updated anymore, but after I asked him if he would rebrand it to LineageOS and he confirmed that he would, I got an update yesterday for the app. For now its only logs for the complete ROM, not yet specific for every device. But it will be when the official ROMs start to get released.
Thanks for responding.

I cannot find the lineageOS updates file on my phone

My phone is nexus 6P and I flashed lineageOS weeks ago with the nightly rom. But every time I check the update and download the new version rom, I couldn't locate the rom that the system downloaded. And I have to download from the website and install again. Where is the updates files?
P.S I cannot find the path"/data/data/org.lineageos.updater/app_updates"
Even I cannot find it in my nexus 6

Download the file to a USB stick. TWRP can mount the device and you can install the update from there. An imperfect, temporary, band-aid kind of kludge hack job, but it ought to work until you resolve the other issue(s). Good Luck.

There will be a folder on your phone called LineageOS updates. Look inside that one, then you can copy the downloaded updated file to your root directory or the download directory.
@LEI916, @djpeterdj, @nezlek & @JoshyanchaAbhay...
As you know, the following directory is where the downloads via the LineageOS Downloads would be located if you had downloaded it manually...
/storage/emulated/0/Download
... if you had obtained the LineageOS via its built in OTA Downloader, then it may be located within one of the following Directories...
/LineageOS updates/
/data/linageos_update/
/data/data/org.lineageos.updater/app_updates/
*** The following directory is the new one that the Lineage Team had last changed it to and is more likely to be located within.
/data/linageos_updates/
Good Luck!

Hi @LEI916, @djpeterdj, @nezlek & @JoshyanchaAbhay...
Normally nobody has to touch the downloaded updates. Built in updater creates a open recovery script and boots into twrp to execute that without further user interaction. If that doesn't work for you, you should try to repair it by manually updating ROM and twrp.
Normally, yes .....

Absolutely correct. But every once in a great while, what ought to happen just doesn't, and for reasons unknown. Admittedly, I offered up what amounts to a complete hatchet job of an alternative, but on my otherwise faithful LG tablet, it was all that worked for a few consecutive updates when the updater decided not to, as the saying goes, get along well with others. Never did anything else besides wait patiently, and the problem went away (I was both patient and willing to conduct an experiment). Did not at any point wipe or re-flash anything. Go figure. At least it is rarely boring

Major changes since August 8th
LineageOS Updater app has been rewritten. Previous issues with downloading updates should be gone now
Downloads are now stored at:

I may be a bit more experienced than many members but, I've had those "NOOB" Moments too.
I can only recommend/suggest for members to check out the Changelog/Blogs, from time to time, to see if anything new has been posted.
The Lineage folks, typically, post new ones every 30-60 days but, I've read past ones purely to take note of them.

Worst-case scenario, (and I've done this) in the OTA screen, after downloading the update you can long-press on it, then tap the disk icon that appears; it'll copy the update to the SD card. Makes it much easier to find. Would be nice if the downloader would just put it in the root folder anyway...

Any OFFICIAL LineageOS 14.1 users?

Long story short, I'm looking for the most stable and refined custom ROM for the MZP. I'm currently using Alberto97's AOSP 8.1 and while everything is working fine, it isn't really that refined. As it is ported from what I guess is the Google Pixel, the OS thinks that the device is a Google Pixel. For example, when I set up the device, it shows the banner "Finish setting up your Pixel". Also, when I register my fingerprint to unlock the device, the setup shows to use the index finger and touch the sensor located on the rear of the device (like the Pixel's). Charging with the phone powered off is also bugged, as it shows nothing but "Charging ??/100". I know these may seem like small things, but I'm a person with extreme attention to detail (almost borderline OCD) and things like these just bug the hell out of me, even though it isn't the devs fault at all (mad respect to Alberto).
Basically, I want a custom ROM that is MADE for the device, not ported. If you guys get what I mean. Polished is the word, I guess.
Seeing as LineageOS 14.1 is officially supported, do these cosmetic flaws exist? Can any LOS users confirm this? I apologize for bugging this sub with my stupid questions, I just want to settle with my phone once and for all.
Thank you to all for your help!

Hi there,
None of the cosmetic flaws you said exist on the official LineageOS 14.1 ROM. I'm using it for several months now and it is certainly the most polished ROM created for this device.
By the way, I've tested weeks ago Alberto97's AOSP 8.1 and it was a weak experience. It wasn't optimized as I expected, some of the animations were jerky and I noticed multiple bugs.
I definitely recommend using LineageOS 14.1 ROM if you want a good experience. Also, I recommend using 7.1 ROMs instead of 8.0's/8.1's. They are way more stable and optimized.
If you have any question, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, that's bad.
You should post a message regarding this issue on the Official Lineage 14.1 topic to make the developper aware. I think that's not hard to make the bootloader compatible, it should be some parameters to change

I contacted the maintainer and he said it's not as simple as that, as there may be incompatibilities with a bootloader from a different Android version. We're messaging each other for the past few days and he sent me a test build. The flash succeeded, though we are unable to make it boot up.

I asked him yesterday but he said that it's against rules to ask for ETAs (even when I only asked him if it would come out, I didn't ask when :/)
Read the thread, one user already posted his email address here, though don't even try to ask him stuff like that again as surely he will link that to me.

The dev (mccreary) just fixed the issue and official LineageOS 14.1 will now be compatible for Oreo bootloaders on the next build (May 2).
I have sideloaded the Oreo OTA on stock firmware.
Now i want to go back using LineageOS 14.1, anyway to do it?

Is there any news for Lineage 15? I am kinda use to Oreo so I am looking for an Oreo ROM. I like AOSP no doubt but I'd also like to try a ROM that is build from scratch for MZP only.

I already asked him if it was in the works and he said don't ask for ETAs. I asked him again today and told him I wasn't asking for a date, just a confirmation if LOS 15 is in the works. We'll see what he says.
EDIT: So it counts as an ETA then. He said we'll just see it come out (so I guess it is in the works). But I wouldn't worry that much, the dev works really fast.
and yeah, I like a ROM that was made for the MZP as well. As much as I like Alberto's ROM, a ROM built from scratch > a port (though LOS 14.1 is Alberto's work as well). It's a pity he quit development of it.

Some LG10-K420N user with the latest LOS 14.1 build downloaded (ZIP)?

Hello,
As you already know the LG K10 device, model K420N has been removed from support for custom roms in the LineageOS builds some time ago. Well, I did not download the last of the ZIPs that had been produced, which I remember was the date: 2018/08/10.
So, I created this post to ask if someone had managed to download it on time and still has that file, and if you could do the favor of sending it to me in some way. Example, MEGA, GDrive, etc.
Thank you
I just found a repo, which I think is what I was looking for exactly. (link)

For some reason the bootloader unlock links also where offline..... After long time of searching and "experimenting" I finally could enter TWRP and got it to work. This was hard :'D

Lineage downloader can't connect

Dear reader,
since a couple of days my device (samsung S7: SM-G930F) is running low on battery really quick. So I thought; it has been a while since my device asked me to update the new Lineage version. So I gave the app the instruction to look for updates, and it gave me the following notification.
Can't connect to download site. Please retry later.
When actually
You device is supported by the lineageOS team, but there are no versions that support this type of publication: Nightly. (this is translated from Dutch, so actual English sentece might be different).
Switching to Snapshot instead of Nightly in the Settings didn't help.
Then when searching again for updates it gave me the message:
No source file
Request for file: lineage-14.1-20181124-nightly-herolte-signed.zip To reconstruct the last update, the zip of the app should actually be installed. Do you want to select this file manually from storage, or download the last full zip-version?
When I press: download full zip-file it gives the following:
Error during implementation. Try to refresh.
When I click on select file (from storage), and select lineage-14.1-20180927-nightly-herolte-signed.zip, it gives me the message:
You should select the right source file. But I don't have that one on my storage; it's froma different date.
Can anyone help me please?
Kind regards,
Chris

S7 is no longer officially supported by lineageOS. You can search here in XDA for unofficial ROMs.
I have no big hope that a new ROM will really solve your battery issue. Most of the the success stories are a result of a clean ROM installation.

In addition to the outstanding information that @kurtn had provided...
There's no Official LineageOS Updater Apps on the Play Store.
The reason is that they have an implemented LineageOS Updater built into the Firmware and has no need to provide any such app separately from the firmware. That would just be counterproductive to the built in Updater.
The LineageOS Updater App(s) on the Play Store is via a 3rd party developer. I'm not stating that any/all of them are either good or bad but, individuals need to know that their Unofficial and is in no way supported by the Official Lineage Team Maintainers.
Just a few (so to speak) words of advice to keep in mind. I remember asking about them (quite a while ago) and those were the types of words/thoughts by @invisiblek and @haggertk (whose a part the Official Lineage Lead Maintainers).
No lectures here... Just some friendly information for you My Friend!
Good Luck!

Hi Kurt and Ibuprophen, thanks for your answers!
Now I have finally holiday and time to actually fix things it's time to continue this
So current situation;
Phone running out of battery within half a day without frequent using, apps crashing > update definitely required.
Phone model: Samsung S7 SM-930F
LineageOS version: 14.1-20181124-NIGHTLY-herolte (so last update is over a year old)
Android version 7.1.2
Options:
1. Just reset to factory settings? Most easy option, but I think it will have negative influence when I use the phone for another year?
2. I found this unoficcial ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/development/beta-lineageos-16-0-s7-herolte-t3842465, however, it doesn't include instructions and it is very technical and it speaks of Android 9 as base, which I don't have; just 7.1.2. Would that be a problem?
3. Update to 15.1 instead if that is easier?
So what would be your advice? Please bear in mind that I am a technical noob and can only follow instructions that are extremely clear & correct
Until now I haven't found instructions I felt comfortable with unfortunately.
By the way my laptop has Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2

Oh, looks like ivan does a good job. I think it is a good idea to install his rom.
But be aware: whatever it is, that eats your battery, it can come back.
Edit: be aware: from the threads it looks like 15.1 and 16.0 are not SELinux enforcing. So the gain of security is not as high as one would expect from security patch level. So you can try a factory reset of 14.1 as well.
Do you think there is an easy, technical-illiterates-friendly way to install this version of ivan? I am not that keen to have the highest possible security.
When I am emptying the phone anyway, it seems best to me to have the most recent version (if it doesn't matter that I have android 7.1 and not android 9).
