Scheduler for moto screen "breathing" ? - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

Hey,
I noticed that the Moto G has a scheduler in the 'Moto' app, in the 'screen' menu options. I don't see it in my Z play. Do you guys have it?
Basically, it allows for a 'sleep time' where the phone stops checking for movement and doesn't wake the screen automatically. Quite handy.
I'm having trouble to understand why the Moto g would have it and not us.
Thanks for your insights !

Is the Moto g on nougat? Maybe it's coming for us? They updated the Moto G before Z Play because it's much more popular.

Not the Moto G I have, no, so it must be something else.

Which Moto g? 1st gen, 2nd get, 3rd gen, G4 play/plus?

G4, sorry. Not play, plus, just G4.

Like do not disturb under notifications?

Basically yes, except here it's for screen breathing, not notifications.

Active Display

Hey guys,
I have the Moto G 4G/LTE (XT1039)
Recently, I have been unsuccessfully attempting and working around for ways to make "Active Display" to work on our phones... No such luck!!
So, I decided to try and experiment with possible replacement apps that can do the same or similar job...
And the best replacement app I have found so far to "Active Display" is:
• AC Display
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay&hl=en
This app ? Is definitely my favorite.
Works well and is fully compatible with the Moto G sensors and even with the lock screen using the music player as well.
I really liked the look of the Deprecated version:
• AC Display (Deprecated)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.activedisplay&hl=en
? But the sensors don't work!
I also tried:
• Dynamic notifications
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.activenotifications&hl=en_GB
But I found this app being faulty on my phone, and the sensors definitely unresponsive or other times working the wrong way around...
So, if you guys have any other suggestions?
? Please share your thoughts and suggestions!

??? ? please can you elaborate?
"Amoled display" for what?
I'm really trying to understand your point, but I fail to understand your logic.
Saying that, I understand that you are only repeating the same comment from other forums participants.
? If you download "AC Display (Deprecated)" you will find that is the exact carbon copy of "Active Display" from Motorola. Unfortunately the sensors on that app don't work. The App was "Deprecated".
The reason for that, was that the developer was worried that Motorola would put a stop on his app development.
(Check is comments on Google+)
So he changed the layout of the app to stop the obvious resemblance to the Motorola app and he launched the current "AC Display" that does a similar job to the original with working sensors as well, but with a different esthetic look.
The app is still in development.
My point here is:
Not so long ago we didn't had "driving mode" and "home mode" on the Moto G.
Today Motorola finally give us that.
In the exact same way they can give us "Active Display" taylored for our phones.
In reality, Motorola/Lenovo can easily give us some power saving version of Moto voice if they desire, since they have already give us the home and driving mode.
? Everything is possible, for as long there is a will, than there is a way...
But realistically they will leave the premium options for the more expensive Moto X.

i think than you..
according to me an obstacle for the touchless control and the active display of motorola is the presence of one micro processor dedicate to this functiones..but everything is possible..
motorola developers have tried to porting a version lite of the active display ... this is established from the presence of the process Active Display Lite..
The active display from the moto X doesn't work on the Moto G because the moto X has an Amoled display which can turn single pixels on and off.
AC display works well on my moto g XT1033, was searching for this kind of app since 2 months. Thanks alot.:good:

Yep moto e 2gen doesn't have gyro sensor..well will use accellerometr and ambient light we'll see what can be done with the system dump.
I have booted the Moto E (2015) ROM on XT1032. I could not make Moto Display or 'Twist gesture' work.

#1: Moto Display and gesture options are now integrated into the system menu itself.
#2: 3G version use a Snapdragon 200, LTE uses Snapdragon 410. I could only get the Snapdragon 200 version to boot on XT1032. If anyone is interested in starting a porting project, I can provide a booting base ROM and some instructions.

I'm sorry if I misread, but did you said that you booted motoe stock rom (the actcual firmware) on a moto g. But that cannot be possible since they have entirely different CPU

It's kind of impossible to get it to work, because the original Moto G has no Gyroscope. However, the Moto G 2nd gen, Moto E 2nd gen, Moto G 1st gen with 4G LTE all have gyroscopes (I was able to use Photosphere in Google Camera on my friend's Moto G 1st gen with 4G LTE, it requires a gyroscope). So if anyone with the aforementioned devices can try it, it might work.
Or else maybe someone could edit the APKs to make it work with Accelerometer, but it would be inaccurate.

moto e 2015 lte doesn't have gyro sensor.. it has only these one sensors : Accelerometer (x2), Ambient Light, Proximity, Sensor Hub
Source: Motorola.com
the second accelerometer sensor with the sensor hub could mean the presence of a low voltage processor that controll the accelerometer for the active display.. it is only a supposition..

[APP][Moto Display]Activate Moto Display by waving over proximity sensor

Hello everybody.
We all know that Moto Display is very useful and shows incoming notification. In Moto G and E devices, it activates when the phone is moved from its position, or when a flip cover over the phone is opened. However I have heard that in Moto X devices, it activates even if you wave over the proximity sensor.
So I thought of making a small app that does the same. It is on Play Store.
MotoDisplay handwave
This might be helpful to some people like me. Do hit the Thanks button if it helped you.
Great app, and very useful!
Thanks. This works very well and hardly uses any battery (despite the warning).
Thanks, works perfectly. I found this on the play store first when looking for something that added this functionality. I ended up turning off the wave/hold to shut down screen because it locked the screen even though smart lock should have kept it unlocked.

You are welcome.
I have been pointed out that to programmatically lock the screen, one needs device administrator permission. But after locking the screen, smart lock doesn't work. So it is an Android limitation.

Yes, and your app did correctly ask for admin permission and did lock the screen correctly. I assumed that it was an Android issue as opposed to an issue with your app.
I am now running LineageOS, which does not have Moto Display...So logically, your app will not work (yet . Would someone please post apk's for Moto Display and related files (if any)? Thanks!

I had made a similar request, but someone told me that to make Moto Display work on custom ROMs, you would need to make a separate kernel.
Is it possible to wake up the screen without Moto display being active ? I don't like the "stock" moto display feature(moving the phone to activate).

You can disable Moto Display. But the phone won't be activated. I will add a feature to activate the lock screen of the phone in this app.
Thanks for the quick response !

[APK] Moto Display from Moto X4

Hey guys,
I've been digging through the Moto apps from the X4 to see how much is compatible with my Z, and to my surprise the Moto Display APK works perfectly and upgrade the Z's to that of the Z2 series, complete with the option to reply without unlocking the screen. No root needed, just install like any other APK. Thought I'd share. Enjoy! :good:

On a Moto X4.
I extracted everything that looked useful/interesting, have had limited success with most of the rest though - was really hoping to find a way to enable Night Display without root as it's the only feature of the current gen I'm sorely missing on my Z. A number of other apps install but don't work, like the Moto app (which demands it be uninstalled when launched) and the updated Voice APK which appears to work and completes enrollment yet doesn't respond to the ShowMe commands.
Lol makes sense ?, well hopefully you can find some more interest stuff that will work.
If your able to upload what you've extracted I'd love to take a look at some.of the apps.
Thanks

No harm in trying.
Moto display works on Moto X Style with nougat update, can't seem to download Moto action apk
Unable to install moto actions, "error while parsing the package"
The Moto display APK works on my g5+ but the other APK refuses to parse. The new Display APK does nothing but change the appearance slightly but its pretty neat.
works fine on my z play with nougat, thank you!
The Moto display works on the Moto G4 plus, updating it to the new look, the actions is not compatible tho
Works perfectly on my Moto Z Play with Nougat 7.1.1.
Thank you!
Looking forward to see if there's anything else you can come up with!
now the real question is, how to revert back if it suddenly stopped working? (it still works fine for me)

You can disable the app and then re-enable it. Since android treats this APK as an update it should revert it.
