I had it for a while when i had flashed some custom rom. What fixed it for me was going all the way back to stock. Original recovery. Then doing twrp..

Black screen on recovery

Hey all. Just recently, or the last few times I've tried to back up my rom to try another, when my phone goes into recovery, I just get a black screen and therefore can't see what's going on. Does the same when I flash another rom but it still flashes, so I'll get my rom, but I just can't see what's going on. I thought it was my version of recovery but I tried another version and it did the same. Any ideas?
Thanks all.

It seems the problem is with recovery, right?
Have you tried reinstalling the recovery via rom manager?
As in reflashing CWM? I just tried it yeah, same results.

Is the screen completely black? Do you see any backlight?
Try 4ext recovery

Sorry for the late reply, had no internet access. Bootloader is also blackscreened, and 4Ext doesn't work...
Hi, I have same problem.. Black screen in recovery and during the boot. When the system boots, screen is OK. Sometimes i have also blackscreen when I want to use HW keyboard. I tried 4ext, reflash older versions of CW but still the same. I can see a screen through Android Screen Monitor and I can cotrol it. But phone is blak, only backlight. Can somebody say, how to solve this issue? Thanks
I have exact the same problem as described here. My bootloader and recovery screen stays black without backlight but with lighted capacitive buttons. I tried different versions of CWM and 4EXT and the problems is the same. During normal boot and phone usage the screen if fine.
I can't exactly recall when it started to happen, but I could flash CM nightly 263 without these problems and two days ago I found the problem about the black screen.
Anybody here has a possible solution to this problem?

Does anyone have an answer to this? I bought a Desire Z off eBay - as far as I can tell it's stock - and this problem is driving me nuts. I also get an issue where sometimes the phone won't wake up straight away and I have to press the on/off switch quite a few times - the lights come on at the bottom of the screen but the screen stays black. The phone also won't wake properly if I slide it to wake it. However, it feels like a software issue rather than (say) a screen hardware issue as if I plug a charger in to wake the phone up, it does so immediately, every time.
Please, please help! I'm slowly going insane with this.

Galaxy Nexus stuck in boot screen...

Recently flashed [ROM][4.1.1][AOSP] Liquid Smooth - Jelly Bean [Beta1] and can't get past boot screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus.
How long are you waiting? It can sometimes take a few minutes just to get past the Google splash screen.

it sat for about 5 minutes. I took the battery out once, and now it's been there for about 5 more...

I'd let it sit for double that, just to be sure, and/or grab a logcat.

Had to factory reset/wipe cache again and then it worked...
Thanks anyways.
I've had the same issue with every JB Rom I've tried out. It always eventually boots (5 min or so) but it occurs on every reboot. This happened on two other Jelly Bean roms until I flashed one of the stock kernels. Then it would only happen once every 5+ reboots. With the Liquid rom I tried flashing the same stock kernel (Linaro), and it would freeze permanently on the "X" Jelly Bean logo that appears after the google screen. So I went back to the kernel that came with Liquid. I've wiped everything that could be wiped and formatted many times over. I've been reading through the threads here, and it seems like most people only have this issue on the second boot. Anyone else experiencing the hang up every time?
did you wipe before you flashed the rom?
I suggest to flash super wiper before flash ur target rom from android HD revolution everytime you install one different ROM , i never had issue.

Phone extremely slow/Won't boot

So today my phone died, or something.
I can get it into download mode, and I have put it back on stock and rooted it again, but it won't boot. Everything moves incredibly slow. CWM included. When it's on stock it won't go past the Galaxy S logo (the big S that goes from white/blueish) and when it's on CM10 it won't go past the Cyanogen Mod circle screen.
It also takes about 10 minutes for it to even get to those screens. So maybe it will go past these, but I get too impatient to wait. I guess. Either way, it shouldn't take so long to load. Anyone know what my problem is or how to fix it? Or do I need to get a new phone?

I tried that, i.e. CM10. It just won't boot. I had it trying to boot all night and when I woke up it was still not booted up.

So after the battery pull you can't get into TWRP or download mode? I would try these again and if possible reflash TWRP, CM10.1 and Gapps first boot take a while but not more than a minute.

Hey! After about 50 tries, I was finally able to access TWRP and am now restoring my TWRP backup from ExtSdCard.
Booting into Recovery/Download is really delicate with these devices, isn't it? Still, no complaints about the GN2. All you have to do is look cross-eyed at my HTC EVO and it boots to recovery. :good:
I'm on the move. Thanks for listening, everybody!

Recent Unroot back to Stock Lolipop first boot

So I unrooted my 5.02 and relocked the bootloader. I've been waiting for the first boot for about 10 mins now. It is on the mulit-colored dots swirling around the center of the screen (I guess the boot animation).
Anyone know how long the first boot is supposed to take?
It always takes ages first boot

I've thought the exact same thing and times and reset it loads of times then forgot to and come back to a nice welcome boot
Why did you relock the bootloader? It serves no purpose other than to wipe all your data when you want root again.
