Fire TV & HD Homerun - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last week I bought an antenna, HD Homerun Extend, and 2 Amazon Fire TV boxes to go along with my Nvidia Shield I already owned. On Wednesday night, I watched a TV show on NBC that I recorded on the DVR the night before. The picture quality was poor. Parts of the picture flashed brightly in 1-second intervals. This "flashing" did not happen on the commercials but started again as soon as the program started. I watched this recorded show on my Amazon Fire TV (box) with my wife and then went downstairs and watch a basketball game on my Nvidia Shield.
After the game I wanted to try to watch the TV show again and see if I could fix it. To my surprise the picture quality was perfect. The picture quality of live TV is superior on the Nvidia Shield too. I sent a trouble ticket to HD Homerun last night and did a little research. From what I read, Fire TV does a poor job of processing MPEG2. I still didn't hear from the HDHomerun people but Amazon support told me that HDHomerun is not compatible with FireTV2.
Is there a fix for this? Why does the picture behave this way? Why does the flashing occur on the TV show but not the commercials?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fire Tv wont play any videos and doesn't make any sound

Every time I click on any video it say "video fail to play"
It doesn't even make any navigating sounds.
I've already done a factory reset but that hasn't helped me one bit.
Do you have any other HDMI wires to hook to your Fire TV?
Mine gets that issue occasionally, but I can always fix it by using the Ctrl+Alt+Delete hotkeys to reset it.
Don't use any cheap or flimsy wires with the grey or "silver" metal tips because they don't work so well.
I was getting slenderman vibes when using a cheap wire on a Sony NSZ-GS7 I once had because it got evil looking static distortion at random.
I reccommend a Vizio HDMI wire like the one I got on my Fire TV with big savings from Wal-Mart quite a while back.
Or look for any trustworthy brand with a gold-tipped HDMI and 4k support even though the Fire TV can only go up to 1080P.
I swapped hdmi but still had no luck.
I will try the hotkeys you mentioned.

[Q] Apect ratio on old 4:3 tube tv with fire tv

Hi, I try to keep my old 4: 3 tube working with a fire tv. For this I use an HDMI 2 AV converter, because the tube does not. have hdmi The image quality quite well. Only problem is the image format/aspect ratio. The content is streched over the whole screen. In 16: 9 movies the top and bottom black bars are missing and 4: 3 series are shown as a square withe black bars left and right. Looks a little bit strange on a 4:3-tv . Does anyone have any idea or experience, whether you can change this somehow? On the old tv itself is not possible.
Purchase of a new current TVs in this case is incidentally not an option because it is an heirloom of my wife's grandmother. Must therefore not be proposed.
Thanks
They say it's cheaper to keep her, understood. Use old tv as tv stand for New tv. Problem solved. Far easier for Jesus to. Feed many with bread and fish than to get good viewing on old tv.

It still doesn't allow a 4:3 aspect ratio. 720p or 480p is going to look just as wonky as 1080p.
a device like this might work for you. I have one working on an old boob tube with a Logitech Revue. Picture is adequate but your mileage may vary.

Hi, I've allready solved the problem. I've showed my wife, how unsharp the old tube is compared to the lcd of my notebook. That was the missing argument to convince her, that a new tv is the far better solution . Therefor I got with rp201's suggestion but without the tv-stand .
@tekweezle: thats exactly the device I use to get the fire tv to my old tv.

Slingbox app for Fire TV?

I cut the cord a few months back and getting a rooftop antenna installed is proving to be troublesome. I got the bright idea of installing a Slingbox at a relative's house (to a dedicated tuner) so I can stream it to my home. My question is how well the Slingbox app works on the Fire TV. Has anyone tried it assuming the transmission WASN'T originating from the local network? How do HD channels look?

2nd Gen Fire TV Controller glitchy....

Wsup XDA!!!
Got my Fire TV 2nd Gen yesterday! I purchase the gaming bundle and was kind of dissapointed it didn’t come with the regular small remote control.
Also the gaming controller is glitchy.
Don't know what to try to improve it but if you guys figure something out let us know please.
Appreciate all your help!
Thanks!
My small controller is also glitchy, loses connection frequently. Think I will have to return the box till it's sorted.

i bought 3 fire tv 2.0 and one of them has a remote that is extremely bad. takes 5-6 presses when you first starts.
Trying to play Castle of Illusionwas impossible on the 2nd Gen Fire TV. Not only did the game run worse than my 1st Gen but I keep dying when Mickey Mouse was racing to get away from the falling apple. Moving him was like he was on ice so I gave up. So glad I send this beta product back and I am back to the more reliable 1st Gen Fire TV.

Blank/black screen when switching to Fire TV from different source

I just got a Fire TV box 3 days ago and it is annoying as all hell. I setup my Harmony 1100 to turn on the Fire TV activity for the wifey but when I switch from antenna tv to the FTV through hdmi on my AVR it will play the audio but no video display? Other times I get neither audio or video and while trying to get something out of the thing it just reboots itself??? Is this fixable? Do I need to get a replacement box? Is this normal in which case this thing is nothing more than a heavy brick?
When it's working it seems pretty good and solid and PlayStation Vue is really nice but this no display issue is a deal breaker if it can't be fixed.
