Is there a way to change volume button default to media instead of ringtone? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

ia there a way to change volume button default to media instead of ringtone?
I couldn't care less if my ringtone is loud or not. I'm always just wanting to change media volume.
On previous Android devices like lg g4 and Samsung galaxy, if you are watching media, The volume button will control media by default. This doesn't seem to happen on the pixel. Quite annoying as it always just changes the ringtone volume then you have to change it by tapping on the media symbol.
Anyone know of any mods perhaps?

You can try the app Rocker Locker from the Play store. That said though, when I'm playing a media file whether online or locally, pushing the volume buttons do change play volume.

It's a bit of a battery drain I hear, I found a profile in taker that does it. I'll see tasker goes battery wise.

I don't assume that you are an idiot, but most people assume that I am one, or anyone else, by default. So in this spirit I will tell you that you can press a volume button, then touch a downward bracket icon, like this "^" but downward, and then change any volume you want.
If you are not an idiot, you still have to surmount your original problem. If you are, your problem is now solved. It's a win win... if you are an idiot.

Lol, I know that. Just hate having to change it all the time. Tasker works well

I don't think so...well I don't own a Touch Pro2 but I've used Touch Flo3D before...
This is one of the reasons why I hesitate from getting a Touch Flo 3D phone. I feel that the MP3 player is incomplete.
Well, why not using the VolumeDown/Up keys on the left side? It's the same like an application-integrated volume control ...!

I have a question about that.
I was in the library today, and as such, my mobile needs to be on 'vibrate' or 'silent', but I also want to listen to music at the same time.
The only way I could listen to music was to turn the volume up, and thus the phone wasn't on vibrate anymore, which meant when I got SMS's and phone calls, the phone went off blaring =="
Any ideas?
In the volume screen you have two settings System and Ring, set the ring to silent and leave the System alone
That works only when you disable the non-stereo handsfree function in the bt profile of the headset. At least that's what happened with my old Elf. Haven't tried it on my Rhodium yet, but know for sure that with both profiles selected it will ring anyway.

If you need the separated Volume controls for system and ring, search for VolumeControl 1.x in the HD section! This might work on our Rhodiums as well!

Repurpose the Volume Rocker

Any way to make this do something outside of volume?
I never change mine (outside of vibrate mode which I use a widget for anyway) and figured I'd see if I could get anything useful out of it.
Does you used rocker for navigation and music volumed?
I don't know how I would use it for navigation, but I don't really ever need to change my music volume, and if I did I use audiomanager.
I'm interested in ether keeping the buttons from accidentally changing my settings, or finding a new use for it.
it would be sweet if you could use it as the shutter button in the camera app
bumping this to see if anyone has any ideas. I'm sick of accidentally hitting the vol rocker and changing my ringer volume.

Silent everything instead of just the ringer

How can I make my gnexus go completely silent when I put it on vibrate/silent mode? I don't what apps to make any sound when I turn down the volume all the way using the volume buttons. Right now I have to go to settings>sounds and change it there.
Oh and is there a way to force it to always vibrate even on silent mode?

1. You can turn down just the media volume. That volume can be adjusted with the volume buttons too, you need to let media make a sound and then press the volume button.
You can also search for volume widgets on the market, I bet there are some that will suit your needs.
2. You can set vibrate in sound setting to "always".

1. That's the problem though. I'm sitting in class and open an app and suddently it starts playing a music. Even the sound of taking a screen shot is unaffected when phone is on silent.
2. I can not find this option in Settings>Sound. I have "Vibrate and Ring" which is set to enabled but it does not affect silent mode.
I use an app called RealSilent off the market. Its free and does what you need.
Use Audio Manager, or something similar. There's plenty of apps out there...
I use quick setting app.....has all volume settings on one page to change values of basically everything

You could also use a profiles app and create a profile that silences everything. (And also a profile that brings everything back up to volumes you like when it's not silenced.)
Thanks everyone I'll try the market
I believe the actual problem is that ICS has combined notification volume and ringer volume in to 1 volume. I haven't seen any of those apps mentioned above, but how can they possibly get around this newly imposed restriction in ICS??
I use Llama for setting profiles on my ICS Nexus S and it warns you about this exact thing.
I've used Mute before on the SGS. Worked well there. I haven't used it yet for the Galaxy Nexus so I can't say if it's been updated for ICS.

Lol this isn't just ics
It was in gingerbread too
The notification and ringer volume are the same (and I actually prefer that)
And OP all you need to do is make the ringer silent, then go into a media app, something like music, power amp, even camera, and then turn down the media volume from there, its pretty simple

But not very practical to do this over and over. Its easier to have a toggle.
Phone on silent in class, open Tiny Tower, and BOOM you have tons of sounds lol. So I really need to find one that works. I used "silent toggle widget" on my G2, but it doesn't mute everything on the GNex.

Looks like "mute" works... when you hit the widget to mute everything, and go into "sound" settings, the ringer is silenced and the games/media sound is set to 0. I'll test more after class. Not gonna risk it right now
Also, the widget is kinda ugly but I think I can look past that if it does what I need.

Wrong. I'll let the picture do the talking instead of a petulant "lol".

[Req] Volume Button App/Hack to control all volume types?

I thought I saw an app somewhere that would let you change the behaviour of the Volume Buttons so that pressing volume down would lower ALL volume types (and not exclude alarms/music).
I don't want an app with an onscreen widget or anything as I like to adjust volumes without unlocking the phone, or even looking at it (easy to adjust volume while in pocket etc..)
The default behaviour of the Samsung S3 is that it reduces/raises all volumes EXCEPT alarms and music, which I can understand for some people, but if I put my phone in vibrate via volume... i do NOT expect to hear a peep from it.
Anyone seen a hack or an app that will do this?

app to control Volume with the Ring

I am kind of perplexed about the Media app built into the Galaxy Watch. It works fine, but on the display there is a Foward and Back track button, but the ring controls this also, why do I have to click the volume button to control the volume! Why cant there either be a button on the main screen of that app or let me use the ring!
I have been looking all over for an app that would let me control the volume with the Ring but to no avail on the Samsung store. Any ideas?
would be super helpful! then you would have one screen control everything!
Because it makes more sense to think that normally most people the first thing they do is press play and set the volume they want. Once set the thing they are going to use more often is the next and previous track and not the volume control.
You may think "but why?"
These days most of the audio we get on apps like Spotify, iTunes and others don't have big variations on loudness from one track to another and/or they include settings in the app so you can set them on to normalize the volume, that includes the Samsung music app, making it easier as you don't need to be turning it up and down each time a new song starts.
It could be done? Yes.
Will be? Idk, and really don't care that much because I use more the widget than the app and volume control it's really easy to access when needed in both.
You should try to make the suggestion to give you the option to configure it that way on the Samsung forums or in the galaxy store on the app.
