And, on that note WTH happened to v4.0?

Later in that same forum, someone got the OP to reply on Twitter regarding the update timing for our 2015. Not today, probably a week.

Yet thats not true they did give a date when Ali Kani the General Manger of Shield said at CES just over a week ago that the original Shield TV hardware would get "same features and functionality on the platform on the same day" in this video about 3 min in youtu.be/BGRBUsACIlk

Just another nvidia screw up. Seems to happen all the time with them. The sad part is nvidia as a company won't admit to their screw up. The new shield shouldn't have even been eligible for this update because they should have shipped with it pre installed. Just more of nvidia not appreciating their customers.

Oh, don't have a cow. I'm sure they just had to delay it a couple days. This software engineer knows that the folks standing on conference stages don't check with the engineers before making promises.

Exactly! Nvidia should have done the same as every other tech company out there and either a) *never* issue the upgrade to force us to purchase their brand new device, or b) make us wait 6 months, hoping we'll purchase the new model, then delay the update for another 3 months.
****ing Nvidia. The least customer-centric company out there...

Yea that's why they even updated their site yesterday about the update and today they deleted all the information they put up right? Also if the new shield has the same hardware as the old there should be no reason to delay the update.
---------- Post added at 03:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:00 AM ----------
Also how are they going to sell the new controller as supported by the old shield when in fact it's not officially supported

First world problems!!! -_-!!!
Sent from my SM-G935W8 using XDA-Developers Legacy app

Also the shield tablets don't officially support the controller either. Sounds to me that nvidia needs a law suit against them for false advertisement, I've already contacted Amazon on the matter.

"just another nvidia screw up" nvidia never had to update your og TV shield with every feature or any feature of the new one. Be glad nvidia is a good freaking company and if more manufacturers are like them we all win! I for one thank nvidia for the new on my old!

Well guys its here finally released
http://phones.verizonwireless.com/htc/trophy/
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=5635
HTC Trophy is a global Windows Phone 7 device for Verizon Wireless. It has a 1GHz processor, 3.8" WVGA display, 5MP Autofocus camera with LED flash, 720p video recording, 16GB of on-board memory, 576MB RAM / 512MB ROM , FM Radio, and will support DLNA.
After months of delays, false launch dates, and executive noncommittals, the HTC Trophy is finally now available for online order from Verizon Wireless for $150 with 2-year agreement, after $50 mail-in rebate. Verizon is also offering free overnight shipping so you can get your Trophy stat.
We have also finally learned the final details of the free Xbox 360 game deal. Trophy owners will need to go to www.freexboxgamenow.com and enter a code that’s on your phone packaging. You will then choose from three games (Halo:Reach, Kinect Sports or Lode Runner), and the game will be shipped out in “6 to 8 weeks”. Lame.
With the release of the HTC Trophy on Verizon, Windows Phone 7 is now on all four of the major wireless carriers in the United States.

i already ordered mines should be getting it tomorrow
And it was sold out in most areas by 9:30-11am....try to get one now !
I got one - great device! Love the form factor.
OMG why so expensive?! amazon.de has it for 177 eur!!!
got mines today i LOVE it...great os and its only the beginning i just wish that u could copy and paste files via usb mass storage mode AND zune syncing and u can download mp3's through the web browser, and add/delete files without needing to hook it up to a computer but so far i love it
ill wait for mango for the custom ringtones and everything else the facebook app is nice they just need to add a few more feature like the ability to tag people to check in spots and the ability to use the camera to take a pic at the check in locations like the android app does
but i really love this os. now i gotta find some fun games and other coo apps
Love it thus far! Makes my Omnia II look like a brick. Some great free apps in Marketplace. I would bet from most folks here. Thanks for the cool apps! I like the level, compass, altimeter, foursquare, endomondo, DB meter, price scanner, apps. No Song ID app though? Is there a list of top rated Wp7 apps you guys use?
Question for the newbie WP7 user - is there a good read/thread on Roms, unlocking, the WP7? I have been adding ROMS since 6.0 so looking forward to tweaking the VZW Trophy.

sad answer...
no roms - I think what people need to realize the goal of a rom was to make the lives of windows users far easier to which was limited by OEMs. In many ways, the wp7 product, save from elevated privileges, is a fantastic product as it stands. Custom roms will be available in time but not yet
Planned on getting one today. I called my local Verizon store and they informed me it was special order only. Not going to have it in stock at store locations. That really sucks.
How about unlolcking?
I fine with no custom ROMs, that's not something I really ever done. However, I'd love to unlock the device so that I can sideload apps. The main one I'd love to have would be the Navigon Select GPS app.
I understand I can developer unlock the device, but I was wondering if there is any other way?
I spent several hours trying to unlock with Chevron, and no luck. From what I understand, Chevron won't work with NoDo update. The only software available for the device has NoDo update installed already (burnt in ROM, I guess, so I haven't tried to resetting/formatting the device). Since we can't go back to 7004 WP7 release (when Chevron still worked), I assume Chevron is a no-go on NoDo?
Gadgetman, you are correct. Devices that don't have pre-NoDo ROMs available cannot be unlocked. There's an ongoing project here in the Development and Hacking forum where people are trying to jailbreak NoDo, but it's very far from a real unlock.
Sorry for bad news.
I'm pretty disappointed that Microsoft made such overtures to the homebrew/sideloading community, but it all appears to have been a hollow gesture.
I actually passed on the Chevron unlock, thinking that at some point this year, an officially supported mechanism would be made available (other than paying $100/year for a developer license). And now, due to an unfortunate sequence of events, I can't restore to pre-NoDo, so my phone is permanently locked.
I ordered mine the very day it came out, I love it; best phone I ever had. Can't wait for Mango.
MS Store had it for 0.01 with a 2 year contract... and you get 4000 xbox live points and 20 or 40.00 off MS Office 2010... crazy deals and if you get the free xbox game more freebies. I got my Xbox game already, just came today.

I got mine as an insurance replacement for my broken Touch Pro 2, great phone. I was going to buy it off contract anyway (I really wanted one with a keyboard and I'm waiting for 2nd gen models before signing a 2 year)

WP Tango and Apollo - leak dates disappointing

http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/windows-phone-timeline-leak-shows-scheduled-tango-apollo-plans
Pocketnow's tweet shows they somehow have leaked timeline and Apollo seems to be at least 9 months away from now and probably a year away!
I am not a very happy camper! Hope it's wrong
I doubt it. Since Nokia is pushing MS to bring the Apollo soon and promised in Nokia World Event that the Apollo is coming in Q2.
I suspect, taht 1gen phones won't get Apollo...but i'm waitnig for Tango)
It will be disappointing if 1st generation dont get official update. And the dates; it's non sense. So Tango will compete with iOS 6?! Tango couldnt compete with iOS 5. Maybe Apollo.
So far what I heard about Tango, it's just a minor update. At least I expect Skype. At least.
I dont think these dates are true
Tom Warren says it's an old roadmap.

Skype is one hell of a project to make even application for, now imagine integrating it!
I don't expect Apollo to arrive on 1st gen devices - it is targetted for dualcore devices from what I heard and GPUs with great perfomance - something that original 1st gen devices don't have (2nd gen with Adreno 205 is many times more powerful).

+1. I expect Apollo to hit first gen devices as well as second (and even third until then) devices. Of course first gen devices will not be able to use all the new feature that may come with Apollo.

Oh nice. No Skype for us.
Nice, MS. Thanks for screwing up my Keyboard, do nothing about, and dont even release the freaking Skype in Fall. Yeah, because.. The Keyboard is not THAT useful. And bugs are just fixed each 6 months.
At least at one point yearly major updates were the plan, but maybe they've moved things up http://www.phonearena.com/news/Microsoft-job-posting-confirms-yearly-Windows-Phone-updates_id19578. I personally would be surprised to see Apollo or whatever the next major update is called as soon as some are hoping, its no secret MS is not a fast moving company.
does anyone have a change log for tango?
apollo is probably going to be held on windows 8 release.
They need to have a Skype App out ASAP. If they want to go deep integration with the OS in Apollo, fine, but to be credible at all MSFT needs to put out an application with at least the same functionality they have on the iPhone and Android

I think it's not as easy as it seems, since notifications would have to be more reliable than they currently are. Sometimes - even though it seems app dependent - notifications appear slightly delayed. Which is okay for Twitter, Facebook, even messengers. But for voice and video calling apps like Skype they should appear directly in order not to miss the call. Take a look at Tango for example where loads of users complained about missed calls due to notifications being too late.

Cheap != not enough powerful! There might be chipsets out there that are more powerful (or the same perfomance but more efficient) for less money than were 1st gens.
Tango is this years NoDo and Apollo is this years Mango. Not sure why this would be surprising to anyone?
From my readings Nodo was better than Tango. Tango supposedly will add nothing new for us, but it will add support for smaller chassis aka cost effective phones for the emerging markets.

Yeah, there is nothing really official about what Tango is bringing. The recent rumors are LTE support (which is pretty important) and back in August there were screenshots of a WP7 OS Build that had system-wide search in it, so there is a chance there might be in there also.

Parrot RNB 6

Since the RNB6 project was cancelled, this thread is now closed.
Parrot RNB 6
The upcoming Parrot RNB 6 infotainment system (to be officially announced at CES 2015) looks like a promising device! In addition to the standard navigation and entertainment functionality we should expect from every devices of this kind, the Parrot RNB 6 will have some extra functionality which, in my opinion, will make it the best solution available on the market for 2015. ODB-2 Compatible with on screen car diagnosis, on-screen climate control and both CarPlay and Android Auto compatible!

^^ I know right? Let hope it is less than $400 or 500. I am hoping that this unit will come with real traffic live, much more features than Pioneer's newest unit that came with android auto, and able to use the gps data without using the android phone data.

500 euro is much to low if you want that they use well know brands who are reliable materials like a fast quad core CPU, 2 gb DDR3 mem and at least 16gb of nand space. ( 32 gb should be a great option )
I think it will have a price tag between €600 or €1000 .
Does anyone know if there has been any further information on this.
I've been looking over the models recently and this seems to be the best one.
Looking for a new head unit for my new car but I don't want to be waiting until the cows come home only to find out its average

Hi there!
I know these sorts of questions tend to result in canned responses, for
dozens of reasons, but I fell I still need to ask.
I've been obsessed with the RNB6 since I saw the demonstrations at CES. I

Thank you very much!

That does look pretty cool! Though I sure do wish I could get the additional cameras and awesome stuff provided by the Parrot option. This is really cheap though... hmmm Could be a great stop-gap measure.
Well... I'm worried about the overall build quality and the sound output.
[July 2015 update] RNB6 project was showcased at CES Las Vegas in January 2015 (watch video below). This infotainment system was selected by several automakers who envision to integrate it in their next-generation car models next year and beyond. As of today there is no plan to sell RNB6 in Aftermarket channels as RNB6 embedded technologies require deep integration with car series and manufacturers.

Damnit! I guess I have to consider a tablet setup again... I really wanted an all-inclusive solution though.
What's annoying is that all the articles I saw on this unit were talking about how you could upgrade your 'clunker' with a new radio... and now they announce that this is only going in new vehicles? That's absurd. Oh well.

I stopped using Kodi a while ago, one reason being that the iPlayer add-on was badly under-maintained at the time. Are you using that add-on or have you found a better way?
I've been reading articles about the Shield's UK launch and it seems that it's shipping with a brand new 10-foot iPlayer app. However no such app is available on the Play Store yet. I'm going to try updating to firmware version 2.0.
Ordered my 500gb version today from nvidia store should get it after the 5th October.
I imported my device from amazon.com a while ago. I just updated to firmware version 2.0 in the hope that iPlayer would become available on the Play store but it didn't. Could somebody who is buying in the UK verify that it does in fact ship with iPlayer? Pre-release articles (which claimed it would ship with iPlayer in the UK) aren't exactly the most reliable source.

However there's no mention whatsoever of the iPlayer on Nvidia's official site. I've heard that big companies sometimes bribe the press to publish slightly false information about new products but if that's the case here then I'm appalled.

Uk version is now available to buy from nvidia site and various retailers linked there, just search google for nvidia shield and if youre in the uk the nvidia site will default to your location.
It's £150 for basic 16gn version.

can you not install an apk file bbc iplayer?

from the fire tv store? amazon
Proof that BBC iPlayer is preinstall in UK edition of Nvidia SHIELD

Here is my actual play store screen:
Also, iPlayer is not shown when searching the Play Store on the device (it may be intentionally hidden I guess)
Found an article which goes into more depth on the iPlayer app which seems to come pre-installed only on review units:
"Meanwhile, there's no Amazon Instant Video support (perhaps not so surprising), while BBC iPlayer is supplied pre-installed - but it's a basic port with no support for any of Android TV's killer features. On top of that, there's a lack of HD iPlayer functionality - a remarkable omission..."
According to the comments Sony Android TVs come with an iPlayer app which supports HD.
Someone from Nvidia made a response in their official forum.
It is new to the UK market, it will get sorted. TBH is there really a mad rush for iPlayer? Everything is still being developed further for this device, eg. Kodi and any other app that wants to change output refresh rate on the fly. Be patient kids I still love mine!

HTC 10 compatible VR Headset...

Had a play with a Samsung Gear VR recently and it was fun with definite potential for the casual user so I was looking to see if something similar (and similarly priced!) might be in the pipeline and compatible with our HTC 10 handsets... (ignoring the Vive of course as that is in a different league!)
Research reveals Google are hopefully working on something for universal android handset use http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...-headset-that-isn-t-made-of-cardboard-1314517 so thought I'd start this thread to discuss people's views on the HTC 10 + VR headset possibilities... [emoji41]

If you want any real VR usage get a Gear VR + Samsung phone. As of right now the only stuff that works with the HTC 10 would be Google Cardboard, which isn't particularly impressive in the same way the dedicated headsets and Gear VR are.

sure you're right. but my point was that it looks like Google will be releasing something similar this year to the Gear which will most likely work with the HTC...
So, as and when we hear more we can update the thread.
Id also be interested once people get their phones to see which google cardboard kits and apps work best...

I am getting the Fiit VR 2N, it will use Cardboard app but the FOV is better, some says it's even better than GearVR
The BoboVR Z4 is the top notch in the budget VR,slightly better than Fiit VR with a FOV of 110 instead of 102 but it's the double in price

Most apps and games don't need a button, you can choose with your head, though you can buy a BT controller for VR for less than 10$ for games that need it, or your xbox360, PS3/4 gamepad
Edit: Just tried my Microsoft wireless mouse on the A9 using OTG and it's working even better than a gamepad, no need for special app or driver it's automatically detected by the phone, BTW you can control all the phone's UI with it

Ordered a Fiit VR 2N today from aliexpress, I should have it between 4 to 6 weeks, I will post my impressions coming from the Cardboard 2.0
I got a VR headset for my S5, it's pretty cool to begin with but I don't think any of the apps currently available are all that. There are certain types of video you can watch on it that are much better than watching on a TV but I don't want to mention it on a family forum.
This thing makes a pretty nice Cardboard phone. The pixel density on this is insanely high and isn't pentile. The pixel response rate is a little low so I wouldn't expect gaming, but video is pretty solid.
I am really interested in the HTC 10. Currently trying out the S7 edge and I must say I love the VR GEAR for watching movies. I don't really care about playing games. On the S7, there is this cool Oculus video app that allows you to watch movies in different settings, e.g theater, home theater, moon, etc. Netflix has a nice app as well for the Gear VR. Is something similar available for google cardboard?
How is below? anyone has used?

Yes, Google is actually building its own Daydream virtual reality headset
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/techcr...l-reality-headset/amp/?client=ms-android-htc#
BUT... not sure if it will work with HTC 10 though... even with Android N update...
http://www.theverge.com/2016/5/18/11703418/google-daydream-vr-platform-smartphone-manufacturers
Update 3:56pm ET:*A previous version of this article stated that Daydream will work on current-gen phones. That was inaccurate. The platform will only run on next-gen compatible phones.

What's "next-gen" though?
The SD820 is pretty new, and true "next gen" (10nm) Android SOCs are coming anytime soon, I don't think.

I guess HTC might know, but Google is probably the one you should ask since its their standard.
Also, there's this little blurb about the HTC 10 "supporting" the Vive:
http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20160311PD205.html
Given the ambiguity and lack of a link, the real meaning was probably lost in translation. We'll see, I suppose.
Considering that HTC Vive is going head to head with Oculus and Samsung in the VR market, I am surprise they dont have a goggle for their phone device.
Anyone tried BoboVR z4 with the 10?
Fiit VR 2N is pretty good with the 10, surely better than stock Cardboard 2.0, though with the given filter the view is too narrow and without it you have some empty space for FOV, but all and all it's still very enjoyable.
I recommend to add some foam or rubber tape on the sides so the screen won't touch the (hard) plastic before any use unless you have a thick case that is protruding above the screen, nobody knows if it can scratch the screen without them

So... How was it?
Daydream won't be on the HTC 10. The device has to have an AMOLED screen in order to be qualified. So the best you're going to get is the Bobo Z4 or something else.
