1/16/17 update N920AUCS4CPL1 - - looks like another security update - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note5

I just got another monthly update for my AT&T Note 5 labeled N920AUCS4CPL1 with the December 1, 2016 security patch included. I can't find anything else on this update but again, it looks like another security update - - NOT Android 7.0+

Can someone please post a link for adb push or odin files, so we can update our n920a as we are not in USA?
Thx.

Wow---this update is KILLING my battery. Google play services is running in the background like crazy. I've lost 10% in 2 HRS with little use where as before the update I would have lost 10% by 2 PM---UGH! Anyone else having this problem?

I updated to PK1 the day I got my phone (last week Monday).
The battery life for me has been superb (since I flashed through ODIN and started setting it up from scratch).
I want to get PL1 (for peace of mind), but I don't have an AT&T SIM card, so I'm waiting for a complete file that I can flash through ODIN.

I don't want anymore updates because I'm almost out of equipment contract now and I want to hack my Note 5. I wasn't aggressive about this until recently but somehow I had auto update on. So my phone started the download but I rebooted it and stuck it in the microwave.. (panic style) Then I tried to downgrade to 5.11 using the PH4 and the PH2 firmwares in succession but PH4 soft bricked me. Then I tried flashing N920AUCS4CPK1. and I got success. Wiped it all back to November 2016 security patch. (I dunno if this works after it installs, I have a sinking feeling it will not work.. There is no firmware available with Dec 2016 security patch that I'm aware so no way to recover if I'm correct in assuming the bootloader is blocking me from downgrades)
Edit: I want stress that fact that my phone never said Dec 2016 security patch, during all this it was still Nov 2016 patch

With AT&T bootloaders, I thought that was always the case.
You WILL take the update when Nougat arrives. I'm eager to know when that will be. I have no intention of rooting my device to trip Knox.

Updating now

I find another update from S4CPL1 to S4CQA1 I think this is January security update but AT&T did not released yet. If someone whan to try it is ADB sideload or from sd-card. Remember if you go for it will erase your data. So backup your phone first.

It seems I'll have to wait unit the next big update is released. I have the N920A, but AT&T is not my carrier so I can't get that OTA. I'm currently on PK1. My device is stock and unrooted since I have no intention of tripping knox at the moment.

With a locked bootloader, it will probably stay unrooted. I don't know of a root for it, would be nice if there was one. I think 5.01 bootlaoder got unlocked... But I keep looking...

Check the file to norbarb post, and send to your phone via ADB, you can search in google how can you send ota by adb, its easy. Send OTA via adb donesnt affect knox, its install manually OTA.

OTA Update Today for AT&T S3

68.86Mb Download. Version stays the same 4.4.2 Also Note 2 got OTA also today from AT&T if someone can post on Note 2 page. Thanks
You will loose Root. After Update Baseband Ver. I747UCFUFNJ1, Kernel 3.4.0-1514807 Wed Oct 1, Build Number KOT49H.I747UCUFNJ1 Still 4.4.2 Android
weird. I wonder what they changed. 69MB is pretty small. security patches? POODLE fix perhaps?
How odd as I'm not getting an update notification, but then again I don't want it. All it is is some more bloat and a new kernel. Probably a kernel that has been patched for towelroot. The update may also lock the bootloader, I wouldn't put it past at&t if it did.
Restore to NE4
Can you restore or downgrade to the NE4? When I got my S3 it came with the new update and towelroot doesn't support it.
I also don't want to take a risk of getting knox tripped if I do try to go to NE4.

Mine fails to install and gets stuck in an update loop. I haven't figured out how to break out of it yet.
EDIT: Managed to get it all sorted out. I was still on i747UCALEM when I got an OTA prompt today. Something happened and it got stuck in an update loop. It was probably failing to install, then failing to rollback. I couldn't get it to flash any of the older roms anymore, when I finally realized I might have partially updated to 4.3+. I was able to install the MJB rom and it booted, but it said "Baseband Unknown". Using adb, I managed to figure out that the OTA had partially installed an I747UCUFNE4 modem. I say partially because I had tried an NE4 rom after the MJB rom and it also failed to identify the baseband. However, getprop ro.bootloader was returning "I747UCUFNE4".
I flashed TWRP back on my device, flashed an NE4 modem properly, and flashed an NE4 rom. This time it found the baseband and everything seems to be working for me. I have no clue if my bootloader is correct, but I'm done for now.
So it's not safe to update with root? I used towelroot and have a clockwork recovery.

No it will put your phone back to Stock, No Root and Stock Recovery.
I updated and my phone is fine, but I don't have root anymore. I used CF-AutoRoot originally, and then I used TowelRoot after the last update. Neither work anymore on the 4.4.2 NJ1 version, so I'm not sure if there is any "easy" way to get root back. I don't really know what the pitfalls involved with TWRP and all the more-involved things.

Same here. No Root. Was on 4.4.2 from this summer. All I did was accept the update, watched it download the 69MB and then let it do its thing. Reboots, says installing, moves to updating then then fails at 95%. Will do this over and over again until I pull battery. Cannot get to recovery, too. I am pissed, since all I did was respond to AT&T's request to update. Otherwise, the phone was perfectly fine. Now I have no use of my phone.
Please post back with solutions.

LOL...typical. Neither one takes responsibility. From my understanding of the way the process works with these updates, it would be AT&T at fault since they have to "test and approve" any updates given by Samsung. Of course they will never admit to being at fault.

I used an app from the Play Store called "My Backup Root" to freeze the update. You can also freeze the security policy updates which is a part of KNOX and/or SELinux I gander.

My Backup Root is a free app on Google Play Store. Always good to have Titanium Backup Pro though, as it lets you backup all your apps and pretty much anything on the software side of your phone.

I'm not sure what you mean. To get the OTA you can't be rooted in the first place. It's only a security fix, so if you have a 100% stock phone, you can root like the last version since it doesn't change anything in regards to root.

I would not touch to anything if I will have to root again after this update.

From what I read they are working on 5.1.1 for the Note 3 (I know 6.0 is out). It takes a long time (yes months) to make sure everything is compatible with TouchWiz. Personally I don't need it as 5.0 works flawlessly for me. I'm not one to need the latest OS. If my phone does what I need/want I'm happy. The only thing I worry about is security, and now that they fixed it, I'm really happy.

Where did you read that? There used to be a 5.1.1 update listed on the updates page but it was pulled months ago. T-Mobile would not even confirm whether or not anything at all is/was being worked on, or if the phone was abandoned. I highly doubt we ever get anything past 5.0 at this point.
I do agree on your other point, the Note 3 still holds up extremely well against current gen phones. I bought and returned a 6P because it just wasn't a $500 upgrade and the battery life was worse than my 2 year old N3 (original battery).

My bad. It was the Note 3 Neo, not ours. Yes I agree this phone is still awesome. I have an Anker 6400 battery, and it lasts two days easy. With all the features the Note 5 removed I'll be sticking with the Note 3 for a while, or at least until it breaks, or the next Note adds back the SD, removable battery, and IR. Those are the three things I love the most. Very power user friendly those are.

After the update, just flash TWRP and root again. None of your settings or apps/data will be affected (unless you've something that changes system files such as xposed framework - this can be resolved by reinstalling exposed zip)

Nope, I never had to. If the update re-locks the bootloader, your data partition will be wiped. As said above, the update does not affect your data (as also noted by Huawei's update info which says "This update will not erase your personal data, but we recommend that you back up any important data before updating.").
Got it! But I saw B368 on Firmware Finder.

I got B367 on Saturday via notification. I'm the only one of three in the family thus far to get it, so it's definitely a slow roll out. I was super excited when I realized it also magically fixed my lagging camera-startup issue. :good:
That is, until today, when I realized I still had a massively lagging camera. Sigh...
Please tell me we'll soon get Oreo AND a camera fix.

Android 9 Pie update

Soooo.....I just bought this phone, unlocked the bootloader and installed Magisk.
Today, I got a system update notification saying Android Pie is ready to download.
Anybody else getting this and if so, I have to go back to 100% stock in order to upgrade right? Then unlock BL again?
Mine isn't showing the update yet. I've got the TA-1068. Not unlocked or anything.
It is possible someone jumped the gun, releasing it too early, and they pulled it so can't download it.
Not yet available on my nokia 6.1. I think we are a couple of weeks away from the update.

What security update level of android 8.1 are you on?
Good luck getting 100% back to stock.
I have a TA-1045 and I unlocked the bootloader and installed Magisk on the July patch of android 8.1. I get update prompts for the August security update, but the update won't install. I tried completely removing Magisk, but it stills fails with "Installation Failed". I don't think anyone has a stock recovery image (at least for TA-1045) to restore
At this point if you flash twrp/magisk you have no way of restoring to stock and accepting OTA updates. You will be stuck on the update you are on until someone figures out a way to take OTA updates or someone gets a hold of stock firmware images for your device (none yet for TA-1045)

Nope - don't think its Chinse - it appears to be a "global" or international version. I don't really notice a difference from my original stock.
I got it from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...-to-flash-global-firmware-pl2-222e-0-t3831764
And was able to flash the "extracted version" with fastboot. I used some fastboot instructions that I found for a chinese rom and changed the filenames to match the worldwide filenames and it worked without the OST tool

Soooo.....I just bought this phone, unlocked the bootloader and installed Magisk.
Today, I got a system update notification saying Android Pie is ready to download.
Anybody else getting this and if so, I have to go back to 100% stock in order to upgrade right? Then unlock BL again?

You should have pulled the OTA link from a logcat so the rest of us can download the update files and upgrade ourselves :/
I guess this OTA is a fake. No one with a Nokia 6.1 has reported getting an Android Pie notification. It's super rare that just one single person will get it.

This. Unless OP is an insider and just dun goof'd, then I fail to see this as legit.
Slightly off-topic:
I was on the June security patch on my 6.1 until yesterday. I received an OTA notification while half asleep and got all excited thinking it was the Pie update, but no, it was the July security patch. What's interesting is that immediately after installing I received the notification for the August security patch, and promptly installed that. May just be me being lucky, but that almost imples that HMD are trying to push out the latest security updates to devices as a way of preparing for Pie maybe?

I got the July update in July and then I got the August update on August. I don't know why yours took a while to update. Mine and other that I know, get the update for the month the same month.

H932 Security Update 12-5-2018

My T-mobile phone has a notification for a security update since yesterday. The Update size is 167.3MB. Is it safe to install it? Or it is a way to block access to rooting. My device is not rooted but I don't want to lose the ability of rooting if I decide to do it later. My software version is H93220o and Security software version is MDF v3.1 Release 2. Thanks.

You are going to keep getting updates every month or two for the next three years... At what point do you decide you want to root your phone and have most recent software, or not root your phone and never update it for fear of not being able to root your phone one day?
Until your phone is rooted, any OEM/ carrier can actually force an update whether you try to block it or not. Samsung proved that couple years ago with the Galaxy Note forced brick fiasco. Why? Because they "own" your phone. They are the admin of the phone, not you -- even if you paid in full.
The update is still ARB 0 so it is safe to install. Since you aren't rooted, would you mind doing a factory reset once you install it, and dump a few partitions using the patched LG UP so that others that are rooted can install it?
EDIT: actually you don't even need to do a factory reset, and the only partitions that you need to dump are boot and system. I can pull the reset from the update.zip.
As @ChazzMatt said though -- you should really think about rooting soon if it is something you want to do. TMO incremented ARB on the G4, G5, G6, and V20. You can bet they will eventually increment it on the V30.

I'm jealous. Still stuck on Sep 2018 security patch. No love from LG for US998.

H930DS is still stuck on August, which violates the Google Enterprise Recommended agreement.
Recent LG G7 update caused bootloops, so wondering if that's reason.
Or maybe they're trying to implement something to prevent downgrading firmware for WTF bootloader unlock.
Up until now, with Oreo US998 was getting updates every couple of months.

Seems like that's the case. And they're probably stressed that they are working on Pie but also have to release these security updates on the side. But this is LG's own fault. They should have gone with Treble and could have saved themselves the work.
