Slower unlock with Fingerprint on Custom Roms? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hi there,
did anyone notice this? Compared to Stock (OOS), the fingerprint scanner on any Custom Rom I've tested so far is quite slower. Maybe not the detection of the fingerprint, but the unlock itself, maybe it has like a 1000ms delay that can be set to 0 ? It bugged me for a while now but I couldn't find any settings on this.
Currently on ResurrectionRemix-N 5.8.0-2016-12-18.
I doubt an update to the very newest version will help though, as I already had this problem since my first custom rom on this device (which wasn't even RR).

Seems like custom roms sometimes take a second to activate the fingerprint scanner, there's been times I went to use it and it clicked like I pressed home. Have to swipe up to get to the pin input screen then usually that works. Guess we'll see if it's the same on lineage when I get around to flashing that after work

Imprint missing

Before anything, sorry if there is a solution already for this, I did look this up here and no one seems to have an answer.
I was running stock up to about June, and my imprint was working fine, albeit sometimes it would give my issues. I then unlocked bootloader, installed twrp, and flashed a few roms, including omni and cm13. I stuck with cm13 but on both roms the imprint option still worked. It worked from June up until last month around the 15th. I noticed I was getting more and more errors with it. Specifically the one that says imprint not available or something like that. Then I rebooted and the option was completely gone. My finger also wasn't recognized when placing it on the sensor. I wiped my system and it did nothing, I reverted back to an older build of cm, and still nothing. I tried different roms and nothing. I then flashed stock nougat and during the initial setup I saw the option for imprint was there but the sensor would read my finger. I went to the options to see if I could find imprint but it was gone again. I didn't purchase my phone through Google so an exchange is not an option. I saw a post on here of someone who fixed it but he did not go into specifics on how he fixed it. He just mentioned after flashing nougat he went to developer options and changed the encryption. Anyways I hope someone has the answers because imprint is life now.

I can tell you that Nougat included new firmware for the touchscreen sensor, but it sounds like you are having hardware problems with the sensor.
Some people have reported similar behavior when some moisture got on the sensor, sweat, condensation from humidity, etc.

Is the fingerprint sensor work well with you ?

Hi guys and first of all, sorry for my english )) Gonna try to do my best !
Well, i have the Mi 5s since 1 week and it works very well except for one thing : the fingerprint sensor...
I put my both thumbs and forefinger in the security setting (and i recorded two times my left thumb) and even with 2 records, it doesn't work very well (and with the other finger, it's completely crappy, sometimes i can try 10 times in a row but it doesn't work).
I'm the only one with this problem ? Do you know a way to fix it ?
Thanks in advance
EDIT : Working* in the title, one mistake again
Unlock speed is pretty decent. But doesn't work as well as I like. Sometimes the sensor just refuse to work no matter how many times I try and I have to manually unlock it
Mi5s Plus is faster than Mi5s

same problem... It worked fine on stock rom but its been hit and miss ever since installing EU rom
Same problem here .. checked with different persons. The recognition rate is not good. I'm using a gearbest version.
schiff, do you use original rom or custom (international)?
Seen a lot of reviews mentioning the sensor doesn't work 100%.
Well I think it's very important how you read in your fingerprints. Because at the beginning it didn't work well too and the false rate was very high.
But then I calmly added the fingerprint again and now it works in 9/10 times. (I also used the trick to add the same finger 2 times).
What bothers me more is that the sensor sometimes seems to need time, if you want to unlock directly after you just closed the display or it failed once to recognize.
Btw I'm on official rom.

I am using V8.0.10.0.MAGCNDH (MIUI8) but this version is international with German I'm not sure if this is official or a custom gearbest version. But at least it's the same version number like the official at mi download.
My next step is to check with adding same finger a second time.
I think I read somewhere that the problem isn't the hardware but the software so we could expect a patch that will improve the performance of the fingerprint scanner dramatically in the future

If it has a different language than either Chinese or English, it's a custom rom and not the official rom. That means it could use a bad driver for the finger print sensor (so far only people with custom roms complain about precision).
Received mine today and played around a bit with the reader. So far it's working really great and unlocks very fast. I have official rom installed.
I have thé same problem. Before i have mi5 and now mi5s le fingerprint not work like mi5. I'm on xiaomi.eu ROM.
I hope on next weekly the problem are fix.
For me it unlocks reliably and is very fast, but nearly every time the lockscreen flashes up just before it unlocks. Pretty annoying. Also if i hold my finger on for just slightly too long it registers that as a press of the home button and closes whatever app I had open. I'm on the xiaomi.eu rom so it could just be that, hard to say.
My opinion is that the sensor registers a small portion of the finger and you will have to do some tests to see how you usually hold the phone when unlock to see what portion of finger use in general.
After several attempts I managed to get a set of fingerprints that unlock the phone 9/10.
Also some times the sensor refuse to work, and I am forced to use the password , but I cant find any related problem that cause this behavior .
Compared to the sensor from my wife Redmi 3S its worse
You need to enter the password if the phone reboots typically. Also I suggest to learn the finger twice, that can also help a lot for unlock. Learn it like you hold it for typical unlock.
This is a problem with recording fingerprints
Do not force the fingerprint sensor to record fingerprints
Recording pressure fingerprints can cause fingerprint distortion and not out
When you record a fingerprint, try to place it on the fingerprint sensor as lightly as possible
Use your thumbs to record fingerprints from multiple angles
Record a big thumb twice
Touch to light only when unlocked
A little bit of pressure on the fingerprint sensor will unlock
I use GOOGLE translation to Chinese into English
I hope to help you
Initially I recorded my fingers with light pressure, but it was working unreliably maybe because glass feels very slippery so you cant keep your finger still on same spot. Maybe. Then I repeated the procedure with a normal/moderate press - not hard, but enough so that my finger covers much of the sensor. Now it's whole lot more reliable. In the odd times when it does fail (usually my fault for placing my finger oddly on the sensor) I just lift the finger and press again and voila I'm in.
After the initial fail I felt this fingerprint thing is more or less of a gimmick that's unreliable enough to not use it. But after rerecording I'm now very pleased as it's now as if my phone isn't locked. It's just fast and reliable.
I did notice that the first time after a reboot you have to enter your pass/pin/pattern and will start using fingers afterwards.
I purchased the phone from gearbest who flashed an unofficial rom. The fingerprint doesn't work as expected, locking and suddenly unlocking the phone. After flashing the xiaomi.eu rom, bang! problem solved.
In my experience if you fingerprint works badly it's a software problem

Problems on unlocking RR-N on OP3

Hi, I'm new to the forum.
I installed
[ROM][LOS][OFFICIAL][7.1.1]Resurrection Remix-N OnePlus 3[26/01] by sud.vastav
and it works very well at the first look. But sometimes when i try to unlock my phone (Oneplus3) with the fingerprint nothing happens. Then i have to tap it for 3 or 4 times and then it will unlock. There is no wrong finger or something, it just does nothing.
At the next time it works fine and without problems. I have wiped the phone completely and flashed it again, but its the same.
Does anybody know a solution?
Thanks
Its a ghost bug. I was looking for days for answers, maybe someday it will be fixed. What about the FW+Modem?
Can it depend on what kernel do you use?
I can not post a link to a pic
Baseband: MPSS.TH.2.0.c1.9-00078-M8996FAAAANAZM-1.81324.1
If that's all I can live wth that, because I realy like this rom
Greets
I have flashed now the ElementalX Kernel, but still the same, sometimes it will not unlock. Specially when i get a notification and i wanna unlock the phone. So It has nothing to do with the Kernel.
If someone has a solution i would be happy about it.
And by the way,
what camera apps are you using?
I opened the camera and sometimes it dont works, when i press the home button i see the camera on my homescreen. Now I installed "Open Camera" --> no problems any more

Display wakeup issues after screen replacement

Hey guys,
About 1 month ago the screen of my OP3 broke and I bought a replacement on eBay.
After the replacement I encountered problems, which only occured from time to time. Sometimes when waking up my device the screen stayed black.(Like on every 20th attempt it happened once). After pressing the power button some more times, the device finally unlocked. I am 100% sure that the device always unlocked on uneven attempts which means that the device at least woke up software-side.
I was totally sure that my replacement screen was kinda flawed and it is a not fixable hardware problem.
Then one week ago I switched from official LOS15.1 to the unofficial LOS16 rom and encountered big differences. The problem got noticebly worse. Waking up the device was a pain in the a**, it never worked on the first attempt on this rom. It's not unusual that it takes between 11 and up to 60 tries to wake up the device which makes it nearly impossible to use the phone. As before, the screen at least turns on software-side after every attempt. I can see this because the hardware buttons always light up.
Now after one week I switched back to official LOS15.1 and voilà, out of 20 attempts, the device instantly unlocked 19 times.
I know it is hard to understand and even to analyze such kind of problems, but there must be some solid solution for my problem.
Atm my clue is that original screens always offer more functions (e.g. gestures) than replacement lcd screens. Those functions are always connected to the software(rom). Is it possible that there is any other function (e.g. anything related to tap2wake or deepsleep) which is able to prevent my screen from turning on?
To deliver some more infos:
- I used standard system settings on both roms to test this out.
- "prevent" accitential wake up is turned off
- tried to disable gestures
- I tested my proximity sensor via an app, it seems to work flawless
- waking up screen in twrp is also very difficult and needs around 15-20 tries. Does anyone see any pattern?

You most likely got a bad part. OEM like One plus and xioami are known for using something called product binning. Which means their parts have a higher failure rate then other oems. They also dont make extra parts really so what you got was most likely just a generic screen like you can buy at any shop in China.
Nothing you can really do about it except try a different screen but to be honest I would get a different device and this time dont skip on the price. You get what you pay for and when a good device is cheap there is always a reason. (why do you think most of the owners and mods of XDA run Iphones as their daily drivers and leave android for a hobby)

Hey there again. I know my answer is kinda late but I wanted to share my experience. So I tried like 10 different custom ROMs with different Android version. The problem got even worse sometimes.
Anyway a few days ago I installed stock OOS and the problem is fixed now. I could not believe at first, but after excessive testing I am 100% sure now.
Anyone can tell why? Is the stock display driver proprietary?
TBH I always used to use custom ROMs (mostly CyanogenMod and now Lineage. Now on stock rom O feel like everything is better than ever before. Battery life, performance. Some features even offer more customization than custom ROMs.
I always thought the opposite is the case since custom roms advertise things like this. I will definitely stick with stock rom for now!

Thanks for the confirmation. The cheaper screens seem to have an issue which is not faced by the costlier ones. I have found while roaming the threads that sometimes flashing OOS helps. May be a driver issue.
My understanding from what I've read, third party displays needed kernel support.
I paid OP to replace mine - no problems.
Hi!
I'm having a similar issue with my Oneplus 5. Had my screen replaced (new one: OEM) and now it doesn't wake up most of the time either using power button or double tap or fingerprint scanner. I tried everything that I read on forums but nothing worked. Now I seem to have found a solution that I haven't read anywhere yet: I turned off night mode and now it's working as it should. Actually, whenever I want to use any screen adjustment feature like night mode, reading mode etc the screen doesn't wake up. But if I keep the default settings, there is no problem. The issue is definitely the new screen because before that I used night mode all the time (I mean after dark). Now I'm still thinking if I should return the phone to the repair shop and ask for another screen (they offer one year warranty after the repair) or just deal with it... I mean these OEM screen are cheap for a reason (as someone had written here before) and there is no guarantee that the next one will be good, and I don't feel like waiting weeks again for an uncertain outcome, also I can live without said features (gonna miss night mode tho'). Any suggestion? Should I give it a try? Maybe the repair shop made a mistake during assembly? Anyway, I hope this comment will be helpful for those lurking for a solution for a similar problem.

OEM screen is not cheap (atleast compared to what is offerred online).
May be you are better off with what you have since you have found a work around. Who knows what you will get next time?

Thank you also for confirming that on OOS there is no issue. Looks like the cheaper of the online replacements have this issue while the costlier ones don't.
Funniest thing is I have a slim ROM backup on 7.1. and that works fine so like what the f--- any ideas people?

Yes, I have the same issue and I wanted to revert back to Stock OOS, but I just tried Caesium latest kernel, and the display wakeup issue seems to have gone. I'm using Havoc OS 2.3 based on Android Pie.
Guys the latest mad kernal reborn it wakes up all the time
At least for my screen
It used to be worse on all the other kernals
Finally found a solution
I had same problem on custom roms after replacement of display of my oneplus3...i was on oos 5.0.8 i had no issues in that but am a custom rom user and now the solution is flash any rom clean flash not dirty flash and flash gapps then flash any module if you want like magisk and then reboot setup the device and after first boot flash mcd custom kernel and yippeee enjoy... Present am on havoc os with no issues... Try and let me know...

Question fingerprint sensor doesn't work

i recently tested custom roms... and rooted my p6p but somehow the fingerprint reader doesb't sense my finger when it's in lockscreen and only work after i wake the phone up... anyone has ideas what's causing it?
Restarting your device can fix some minor issues like unstable Wi-Fi, a frozen program, or a faulty fingerprint sensor. So the best solution for your fingerprint sensor might be to reset it.

Since you are running a custom ROM, the best person to ask is the creator of that ROM. See if maybe other people running the ROM have the same issue. Since you are not running Stock and haven't even mentioned which ROM you use, it's hard to help you here in any way.

I am not running custom rom but that fingerprint reader problem is on mine too and its sporadic. The reader would work fine after a reset/flash, days later it would bug out. I have to tap once or lift the phone to activate the screen for the reader to work. Rebooting the phone a few times would get it to work again but its random.
I've noticed on AOD the fingerprint reader doesn't respond while in a smartlock area and i have to press power to get to lockscreen then fpr works (or it shows me unlocked by smartlock depending if it's been 4 hours) . Can others confirm/rebut that theirs only does this in smartlock zones and not in the wild (or if you bt smartlock whether or not being connected causes this)
so i rooted and went back to stock OS. It didn't work in AOD. After several reboots, it started to work again..... this is crazy

Yeah, its a crapshoot if it will remain working the next time you restart.
