Can't send mms with wifi on, but everything else data related is fine - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have HTC One M8 HK edition, running the most recent viper one OS, I have straight talk service with correct apn settings, and everything is working great (except soundcloud app but that's their fault) data-wise except for mms sending specifically when wifi is on. I can have wifi on and send plain text messages and make calls and all that, but i have to turn the wifi off to get mms to send or else it just says unable to send because unknown or something akin to that. It's a minor inconvenience that can be simply worked around by manually turning wifi off every time i send or receive mms, but I'd wager that there is also a pretty simple fix for this. Straight talk was no help at all, saying they didn't know why, and that's just how it works, I'd have to do that every time and there was no way to fix it. I simply can't believe that without some proof. Anyone know how to fix?

Are you using Hangouts? If so, try sending MMS via the stock Messages app instead.

[Q] CM7 MMS issue

I searched the CM7 thread, but MMS and issue are such vague queries that I was unable to find anything pertaining to my issue.
I can receive MMS fine, but I cannot send at all. I choose the pic I want to send and hit send, and it just disappears. Doesn't show up in the thread of messages. Then when I back out of it, I see the last message I sent that person is (no subject) like it was my pic, but when I go into the thread it is not sent. But it shows up with the pic again like I never sent it. It saves it as a draft. Any time I hit send it does the same thing over and over. I can't even get the pic to delete from drafts. The only way is to delete the whole thread.
I have changed my number in the call settings to show with a +509251xxxx, no dashes or anything. Is there something else I am missing? I have tried several different CM7 builds and all have the same problem.
bump - really? Nothin guys?
Edit: reflashed CM7 and only restored apps+data, no system data and problem was resolved. I assumed since my system data was from a prior CM7 version that it would be no problem, apparently I was wrong. Thank me for all the help
I have the same issue. It doesn't disappear for me, but it just stays there wit the spinning circle thing. It never sends and after a couple of minutes, it says I cannot send the MMS.
Is there a solution without reflashing?
same problem.mine says mms is too large
I have the opposite issue. I've been completely unable to pin down the issue. I can MMS myself pictures and can MMS them to my email, but I cannot receive them. I used to receive them just fine, but now it's an issue.
I've confirmed that I can't receive them from iPhones, BlackBerries, and other Android phones.
I've checked my APN and know it works. I can access Mobile Data.
I've tried third party apps for messaging and that doesn't help.
I've spoofed as an iPhone, BlackBerry, and Custom (Blank) Agent without any results.
I've ensured my phone number in system settings doesn't have any symbols.
Anyone fix this issue?

Try to download handscent or go sms and try that? I doubt that will work but give it a try!

I've got a similar issue -
Using CM7 7.0.3's Mms.apk my phone processes sms no problem, however it will not process mms - send or receive.
Go SMS Pro however will let me SEND picture messages - and Its going through my carrier because in an email to myself it was full of their crap - Sent to you from a Koodo Mobile Customer!
Unfortunately I cannot receive mms; Go SMS implies that it relies on the Mms.apk to forward notifications.
Considering that the Mms.apk isn't syncing with the mmsc properly, I'm assuming the problem lies there. I've even gone so far as to go to one of the phone kiosks and ask to play with their new Nexus S (*drool*) and ripped the apns off of it and uploaded their apn directly to my phone. Still, no dice.
Any suggestions anyone?
I've been having the same problems. Tried lots of things. I was also using Go SMS pro, and thought that was the issue. Tried fooling around with apn, user agent and MMS size etc... Nothing worked except the simple fix:
What I had to do to make it work was to have my mobile network on -- (which I almost always have off from the notification switches). Once it was turned on, it still didn't kick over because I was connected to wifi. So I had to manually disable wifi and then resend the message. It worked fine then.
So:
Turn off wifi
turn on mobile / 3g
resend message
Seems like a simple bug that's keeping the mobile network from kicking on.

T989 SMS/MMS stuck at "Sending..." Can receive, but not send on Wifi-Calling.

T989 SMS/MMS stuck at "Sending..." Can receive, but not send on Wifi-Calling.
At home, wifi calling works perfectly. SMS/MMS, calling, web. Everything.
But at work, (unknown router to me), wifi calling works, web works, but sms/mms gets hung up on "Sending..." however I am able to receive texts via wifi calling. Just can't send. I have to disable wifi calling while at work, then my sms/mms goes through just fine.
Anybody know why this may be? This seems to be router-dependent... or is it a bug/glitch in T-Mobile's wifi calling software?
Additional info: I did the 2.3.6 update over my existing stock rooted T-Mobile OS. I kept all my settings, apps, etc, but just updated and also was unrooted, apparently.
This seems to be a pretty common issue with the update. Myself and others have discussed it in another thread here. Its really hit or miss. Sometimes i can send and receive mms at home, sometimes i cant. At work it never does.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Thanks. I hope T-Mobile fixes this. What thread is this discussion in?? I looked

MMS problems

Is anyone else having MMS issues? I can never get MMS messages to send. Its rather annoying. I've heard of people adding a custom APN but my button to add an APN is greyed out.
The only thing I can do is toggle airplane mode a few times to get the messages to go through but it doesn't always work
Went to the sprint store today and they were baffled.
I have. New update 5/11 should take care of that. If you clear your cache it will take care of it.
Worked great man. Cleared cache on hangouts and MMS service seemed to do the trick

that's what i did after update picture would not go through and text takes a long time to send
cleared app cache and data
all is right in the world with sms
I have had a similar issue and it was fixed by turning wifi off and the message would send
My APN settings can't be edited. It doesn't let me edit, only create NEW APN's. I have my MSL and still cant change my APN settings. I could use the hotspot on the S6 SM-G925P. I'm currently non-rooted due to the recent 5.1.1 Firmware version update. Thanks.
There has always been an issue with sprint phones + Google Hangouts + MMS. For some reason hangouts will only send and receive MMS over data. If you want to test it connect to wifi, try to send an MMS over hangouts (notice that your data icon in the top bar will show). If you have poor data reception your MMS might not even send and the phone radio can get very hot. Now disable hangouts and use the stock messaging app to send an MMS. Notice that the MMS sends fine over wifi and does not activate your data.
I really love hangouts, but the inability to send and receive MMS over wifi is a deal breaker for me. Turning on data every time I get an MMS is a battery killer for me. I doubt Google/sprint will ever address this issue as it has been going on since hangouts released when I had an S2.

My experience has been the same since S2 also. Read all the MMS threads. Tried all kinds of changes to APNs. Most of the time I was running CM and blamed it for the issues. Finally tried Textra to find no problems with MMS. My conclusion was Hangouts. You can follow this Google thread if you have a couple hours to spend. All breeds of Hangouts users with same problem, with very little response from Google. My hope was for Hangouts to be for Android what imessage is to IOS. No such luck, but still hopeful. Until then, I use Textra with no problems.
I've been attempting to use XHangouts and the APN splicing feature to get Hangouts 4 to send / receive MMS through my carrier number, and no dice. Has anyone gotten this working on the Sprint S6? I'd, in theory, love to be able to use Hangouts for both the new Voice group chatting AND normal MMS functions but it seems like I can either downgrade to Hangouts 3 or deal with using another SMS client for carrier MMS.

Can't send SMS.

Hey everyone, I'm having a problem sending text messages. I can receive texts just fine, as well as SEND mms, make calls, use the internet, etc. For some reason though, sending an SMS fails. I'm running JasminROM 6.0 and this problem only just started maybe an hour ago. APN settings are exact and on point. I thought maybe it was the call center number I needed to edit, however, I don't have access to that setting. I guess it disappears when on a custom ROM or something. Anybody else have this problem and/or have a way to fix this? I don't believe it is network related because others with the same carrier are not having any issues. Thanks in advance for any help given!
- Brad
EDIT: Not sure why, but I uninstalled xTouchWiz and my SMS magically started working again.

MM Update: Group messaging & MMS doesn't work if wifi is connected

Hi folks,
I've got a new problem that started after I updated my D851 from (stock/rooted) Lollipop to (stock/rooted) Marshmallow.
When I'm home, I've got a decent LTE signal (ATT, though using the T-Mobile phone variant). But since I'm home, my phone connects to my wifi and uses it for data. I have no problem making/receiving calls or SMS texts to a single person at a time.
However, as long as I'm connected to WIFI (with my cellular signal present but not used for data due to the WIFI), neither MMS nor group texts work. In the stock Messages app, or the Messaging app I actually usually use, these MMS or group texts sit there as "sending..."
If I turn off the wifi, the cellular data signal is used immediately and the texts go through. Same goes for receiving MMS.
Again, this only happens since the marshmallow update that I applied a couple weeks ago.
I have not found a fix. I found lots of people complaining, and a few proposed solutions, like changing the APN so that the APN Protocol would be set to IPv4/IPv6 instead of the default IPv4. See here for that reference, though it didn't work for me:
https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/61843?tstart=0
Anybody have a fix for this? it's a real problem particularly for incoming messages. I can always toggle wifi off if I want to send something, but not knowing when something is coming in gets to be a problem. SMS from single conversations come through.
Please help me troubleshoot this. I've googled my fingers to the bone and while I've found reports of issues like this going back years, no actual solutions that work for me.
HELP!
There's one workaround so far... using Textra as the messaging app. It has an option called the T-Mobile Wifi Calling fix (in Settings/MMS/scroll down to bottom). Even though my wifi calling is set to off, since I'm on ATT, enabling this setting in Textra automatically toggles off WiFi to send MMS/group sms, and it does the same when it detects an attempted incoming MMS.
I much prefer the Google Messages app, for a variety of reasons, and I'm looking to figure out a real fix rather than this workaround. Any help most appreciated.
