How to enable multi window in htc m9 Android 7? Please provide pictures.
For some reason I can't find the option any where

Long press recent apps button! Google is a very handy tool btw.

Hi Philicibine. Long pressing recent apps doesn't actually do anything on the m9 with Android 7.
Does anyone else know how to do this?

Er... Yes it does!
Long press, and then select the second app you want to split.

It might do something on your phone, but it doesn't on mine. If I long press it absolutely nothing happens.
I have tried to find a setting in the phone that might enable it but can't find anything.

You're wrong and your screenshots are not from an m9.
There is no split screen on htc unless you activate it manually in build.prop and even then you have no real control over it.

Er... I hate to say it but.. it's an m9 on stock EU ROM with nothing tinkered with. No root whatsoever.

This used to be true but the Nougat update brought split screen to the M9.

when in recent apps menu click on the settings icon in the corner and change recent apps style to GRID FROM CARD and then you will be able to do it

Split screen work normally on stock nougat without any modifications...
Wysłane z mojego HTC One M9 przy użyciu Tapatalka

as far as i know the app had to support the split screen

Split screen works on my M9, and always has since 7.0.
Currently running 7.1.2 but can confirm it works on stock 7.0 as well.

I have stock 7.0 and it's working well, you need to have Layout to Card view, then open an app(youtube for example) and long press recents button.

Works fine in my m9, just set the recent apps layout to cards and you shoul be able to(you can anable the option to force apps that dont support split screen to do it in the developer settings).

Widget to turn the screen off

Since M8 doesn't have option to turn the screen off by double tapping on home screen (I really don't know why), I've used a widget on KitKat to turn it off. Today I've finally updated it to Lollipop, and I have problems with it.
I have Smart Lock enabled (with face recognition), and when I turn the screen off with widget, and turn it on again, face recognition doesn't even start. Only if I turn it off with power button, then everything works. I've tried several widgets from Play store, but all of them have the same problem.
My question is- does somebody know about wigdet that doesn't have this problem? I would be very grateful if someone knows.
Thank you for your answer.
PS. sorry for my bad english
It's very easy. First you need greenify, it doesn't matter if you are rooted or not.
On Sense home screen create a shortcut to (Greenify)-Hibernate + Lock screen and that's it.
If you have Nova launcher, than you can have dubble tap to screen off:
Nova settings > gestures and Buttons > double tap > select the same Greenify shortcut again.

Unfortunately, that also doesn't work, same problem as others. I can lock the screen, but it's the same thing when I turn the screen on- face recognition doesn't start.
I have Sense M8 so I have it's stock launcher, it's the best for me. And I'm fully stock, non-rooted.
Still, thanks for reply.

Install this app ,its the one I use .
When you open the app you must active it and upon activating it your screen will shut off.
Unlock your screen and go to widgets to scroll to it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.marinelli.android.TurnOff
I haven't fully understood you, which widgets I have to scroll? Because after updating to 5.0, I can't swipe right on the lockscreen and add widgets.
Unfortunately your screen off widget is the same as others... If it works for you, then maybe it's some random bug after update...

I'm on an official 5.0.1 running a 5.0.2 ROM and can easily add a widget for all apps that have one .
I don't understand what's going on with your device
Its an app and you choose its widget from the home screen like any other.it just turns the device screen off and has nothing to do with facelock
Maybe root and custom
firmware/ROM is in your near future. Most of the lollipop ROMs come with extra features that allow the type of things your wanting

I have Sense M8, you have GPE.
The widget turns the screen off and it looks like it's the same thing as the power button. But something different is probably going on in the background.

You could still run a GPE ROM or a Sense based "ROM" and gain what you want either way.
If you stay stock and the feature your looking for isn't a part of the system or an app doesn't exist that can do what you want
You may want to Unlock the bootlooader ,flash a custom recovery, and ROOT it so you can open up the phones full potential.

Here is one more app to try.I've used it on my Samsung devices even though it says Nexus,it comes with an off button to.
It uses the proximity sensor to wake the device

I've rooted every phone I had, but I don't have time for it anymore. Plus, M8 is a beast even without root.
Well this update haven't brought anything good. They've just mixed Material Design with Sense, it looked better before. They should have animated everything, not just few things. Plus, they removed widgets for lockscreen. I'm waiting for Sense 7, it will be better (I hope so).

I'll just say one last thing and I'm not just trying to irritate your sir.
If you had unlocked and rooted when it was version 4.4.2 than S-OFF would've allowed you to go back in time using ruu.
I agree with Sense not doing very much with lollipop as I'm Dev Sense lollipop base, that's why I'm on GPE cause it's way more visually appealing.
I can tell your a smart person just reading how you write .rooting devices before you'd know it really isn't that hard .

I know it's not hard, but if root my phone I will lose hours and hours on flashing different ROMs, kernels, mods, tweaks, etc. I would'n stop on one thing. So I'll wait for Sense 7, i know HTC would done a good job.
And I don't know what to say about Google and Lollipop... Every device on L has bugs, and battery life is shorter than on 4.4.4... It will probably take them a year to reach stability of 4.4.4. It looks way better, but in the background it's not that good. Step backward, my opinion.
What's going to make Sense 7 any different.when I flash a ROM I just use it the way it boots stock,I don't search for bugs to report even after reading before hand witch bugs have been reported.
Do you have a source link to the Sense 7 information you've been reading to share.I'm an At&t user that converted to Dev edition to receive earliest Sense OTA's .when is Sense 7 ETA do you know
Of course I don't have any information about Sense 7 (maybe it will be Sense 6.5?). But I'm saying, when M9 comes, it will have new Sense, which will probably be better than this (full Material design + other some other features). I don't have any information about it but it's likely to be expected.

How do you disable those keys? And do you need to reboot to make this active or could it be done on the fly? They do bother me when I'm holding the tablet (10.5) in portrait mode.
I'm also using GMD gesture on tablets, much easier than using those buttons.
Edit: never mind, just found there's a thread about it.
Why don't you just root it and ROM it blisspop

I don't think it's possible without rebooting
You have to edit 'generic.kl' file in /system folder, of course you need root

Help resizing apps!

Hi guys
since we tave tablets..naturally the app passcode screen is huge
is it possible and if so how can it be made much smaller etc?
thx in advance!
Same question here.
But I believe it depends on each app.
Yeah..im wondering if root can resize app passlocks???
Nope, unless there was an app for that purpose that requires root

On-Screen Navigation Buttons

Do you think Google's using a custom ROM on a rooted HTC 10 here? Or is this just a photoshop from an oblivious screenshot-maker? If that's actually on the phone, I'd like to know how Google did it.

"on-screen navigation buttons at the bottom above the fingerprint scanner", which is what this thread is about
The article already states that Assistant will be available to all devices (the only thing that sensibly means is you'll be able to install it from the app store), so how to "get" Assistant here is irrelevant, the reference to Assistant is just a reference to the screenshot.

Strange if they would render an HTC 10 to look like a non-specific device then name it the HTC 10.
Possibly some designer just copied and pasted the Pixel screen, but it doesn't seem necessary to include the navigation buttons on the HTC 10 image when they don't include them on the Galaxy S7 image; who knows, maybe they have all three devices and have somehow turned on the navigation buttons on the HTC 10 through some setting only available to Google developers... I can't imagine they'd use a device with a custom ROM that doesn't represent what people can get in stores.
Hi guys!
i read the thread, and i still want to know
The is a way to enable on screen nav buttons WITHOUT custom rom?
I've tried to edit build.prop but it's not worked on my HTC 10...
Should be able to edit build prop and I think acc file for this...

Double press power button to launch camera

Okay, call me crazy, but I am positive that that shortcut was not present before. I have the latest security patch, no root, no bootloader unlocked, no custom rom. I double pressed it and the camera launched. I don't know if it has to do with hiding the stock Sense Home screen via adb. I don't know what I did. I don't find a setting or anything in the entire system.

Yeah, I read it somewhere, it's one of the effects of disabling the HTC Lockscreen. Having the stock Android Lockscreen enables that double press shortcut.
I have a question too though, does the fingerprint scanner work on the Stock Android Lockscreen?
