[Answer] Experimental Build Installation Guide (For Those Who Have Missed It). - LineageOS Questions & Answers

I Have Seen Some People That Has Missed The Guide About The Lineage OS (LOS) Experimental Installation So I Made This Thread.
Lineage OS Experimental Is For Those Who Doesn't Want To Wipe Their Data (Ect: Installed Apps, Media And More) As You Need To Do With To The LOS Nightly Build. (It Is NOT Recommended To Dirty Flash The Nightly).
DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL LOS 13.0 ON TOP OF CM 14.1!!!
Guide For CM 13/14.1 Official Build To LOS 13/14.1 Official Build:
Install On Recovery Mode:
1. Download LOS 14.1 Experimental And Nightly For Your Device.
(If You Downloaded Them On PC Then Just Transfare The ZIP Files To Your Phone).
2. Go To Recovery.
3. Do A Full Back Up.
4. Install LOS 14.1 Experimental (Do Not Wipe).
5. Reboot To System.
6. Reboot To Recovery.
7. Install LOS 14.1 Nightly (Do Not Wipe).
8. Reboot To System (DONE!!).
Or Just To Be Safe (If The ROM Where Working Correctly).
9. Reboot To Recovery.
10. Do Another Back Up.
(Number 3, 9 And 10 Is Just To Be On The Safe Side).
P.S. Experimental Options Will Be Removed In Approx 2 Months!
If You Want Root On Your Device Then Just Download The Super SU From Lineage OS Extras And Install It In Recovery.
Guide If Needed:
1. Download The Correct Super SU For Your Device.
2. Reboot To Recovery.
3. Go To Install.
4. Select The Super SU ZIP File.
5. Install.
6. DONE!!
(You Can Do A Back Up After The Installation If You Want To).

Yes it should be OTAs. But I cannot promise because I am not working with Lineage OS.
When I installed the Lineage OS 14.1 Experimental on my OP2 then when I rebooted to system after the flash then I got a notification about an update and that update was Lineage OS 14.1 Nightly so I think that it should be OTA updates in the future.

Hello,
Worked on my N4.

This build is as (un)stable as 12.0 builds. But you have to keep in mind, theoretically it can consist issues, that weren't already found and they could be critical

Cyanogenmod 14.1 official nightly

Hi all,
Seems there is a CM14.1 nightly now available for find7s on the official CM site, link here: hxxps://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=nightly&device=find7s
Was just wondering if anyones given it a go yet, and if so knows whether or not it supports LVM and how stable the rom is?
Haven't found any info that states one way or the other, hoping someone knows.
Thanks in advance.
About the storage support:
Stock -> YES
LVM - NO
Coldbird - Not tested
Chinese - YES
New display:
Cant test it because i havent the new display
At the moment no theme engine
Is stable for daily driver FROM MY POINT OF VIEW
Its a little bit weird that there is not available yet on the page https://www.cmxlog.com/14.1/
Hope it will appear here soon as well as it is already here:
(Find 7a) https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=find7
and
(Find 7) https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=find7s
Dirty flashed cm-14.1-20161205-NIGHTLY over cm-14.1-20161201-UNOFFICIAL via menu CyanogenMod updates. Everything seems to be OK. One remark: boot time when update is completed is quite long, so be patient. Of course in order to not see "SD corrupted" it is necessary to flash cm-13.0-find7-unified-storage-patch.zip
EDIT: Just for your information: boot animation CM face is gone. Now there is word "android" in plain white.
great news
Finally there we are changes logs:
https://www.cmxlog.com/14.1/find7/
https://www.cmxlog.com/14.1/find7s/
Android 7.1.1 in the next nightly
CyanogenMod will never support LVM.
This is 7.1 right? Or is it 7.0? I downloaded the 7.1 GAPPS, which should be correct for this build...
I updated it, and it runs smooth without any force crashes and nonsense. (Besides the time I tried to open an app not built for nougat, =P. If you're hesistant about updating, don't think, just do it.

And yes you need to flash Wuxianlin's patch after every upgrade just for aesthetic purpose, that is to fix the SDcard damage info bug, unless CM find7 maintainer will fix that, and when it happen you will no longer need to flash the Wuxianlin's CM13 patch.

1. If you are on LVM you need to back to stock partition layout. Just google for "Find 7 unbrick tool" for procedure. "Sahara" tool is available for download here: http://d3bzg7dsosz4ht.cloudfront.net/OTA/Find7/FIND7WX_12_A.09_140810.tgz

4. Flash cm-14.1 last official nightly build: https://www.cmxlog.com/14.1/find7/

OMG! No! Just need to flash "unlvm" script to revert to stock layout, that is supported by this ROM. Then flash ROM, gapps and SuperSU.
Anyway, to configure chinese storage, if desired, step 1 is unnecesary: just step 2 is enough.
And, of course, don't forget to make a backup in external SD because any choosen method (unbrick tool, setup chinese storage or revert LVM) erases both data and internal card.
Edit:
Here you can find the removelvm_find7_FULL_WIPE script needed to revert to stock layout; flashing it from TWRP is the only you need. When in stock again, you can proceed as usual flashing ROM, gapps and everything you want.

Thanks everyone for the info, might hold off as I have LVM, here's hoping that namelessrom put out an official nougat rom in the not too distant future.

New Display is not supported. Colors, ghosting, and bleeding will still be running wild just like all older CM.
The only Custom ROM on the planet that fully supports new display is OmniROM and it seems that they could use some help. Please support their effort: omnirom.org

What to flash in case of update Lineage OS?

Hello,
I am currently running a nighly build of Lineage OS 14.1 on my LG G2.
I was wondering:
- when a new 14.1 nighly comes out: Do I have to flash the Gapps and root zip also after (dirty) flashing the new nightly?
- and what in case of a 14.2 build or even a 15 build? Do I have to do a clean install in that case?
Thank you in advance!
Don't know about 14.2 or 15 because they are still no where.
But for new 14.1 no need to flash g apps and root zip again.

It doesn't hurt to flash an updated GApps package along with the Nightly update.
If you have SuperSU, then you should flash it again along with the Nightly update. This is because updating the Nightly also affects the SuperSU modifications and binaries. Re-flashing the SuperSU will reinstate the SuperSU modifications and binary installation.
If you don't re-flash SuperSU, then you'll get a notification from the SuperSU app that the binaries need to be installed.
So the GApps is up to you and the SuperSU is a yes.
I wish you the best of luck!

Historically speaking, dirty flashes are usually fine within the same major version number, while clean flashes are often required when the major version number changes.
The ROM maintainer will provide instructions for any exception to this general rule.
Thank you for your replies!
Is 14.1 --> 14.2 a major version number jhedfors? I mean: when there is 14.2, can I flash it dirty?
I flashed my phone yesterday, and I got a lot of errors. After flashing Gapps and the root-zip from Lineage, it was all solved. So in my case I have to flash them all again everty time.

Current versioning is as follows: Major.Minor.Patch
That would be considered a minor change. But as I mentioned, it all depends on the advice from the maintainer.
You should not need to flash either Gapps or official Lineage superuser after nightly update. You might want to post logs of you have any issues next nightly update.

New build updated in OP. Thank Senior Member ny-hardcore for this.
Changes: Lineage sources and kernel updated with latest google update. The boot.img was updated in the payload to eliminate a second boot flash after sideloading rom for working WiFi. Please report any bugs that I may have missed. Also, I never dirty flash over anything. They more than likely cause problems. I did a clean install of this. If you are on the previous build of this, I DO NOT recommend dirty flashing it.

[ROM]LineageOS 20 - Xiaomi Mi 8

Please note: I no longer maintain this ROM as my phone screen has cracked and I've moved on to a different device. Bgncm will probably continue to maintain it for mi8 as its similar to his other devices. Thanks for those that supported in the past and perhaps we will meet again in the future on a different device.
LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 12, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.
GPL compliance:
Device tree source code: https://github.com/LineageOS/android_device_xiaomi_dipper
Kernel source code: https://github.com/LineageOS/android_kernel_xiaomi_sdm845
Compatibility:
Compatible with Xiaomi Mi 8
Builds are based off the Xiaomi's Android 10 firmware.
Recommended firmware is latest MIUI stable firmware.

Notice:
No custom kernels are supported in this thread. Only stock kernel and official builds will be supported. No bug reports if that's not the case.
Installation:
Reboot to recovery
Format /system, /data and /cache
Install MIUI firmware
Install LineageOS zip package
Install a Google Apps package of your choice.
Important notes:
* Required * firmware version must be based on MIUI *-based builds.
Formatting data (all user data is wiped, including internal storage) is a must if MIUI was previously installed and device was encrypted.
All LineageOS team would like to thank everyone involved in helping with testing, coding, debugging & documenting! Enjoy!
@infrag
Thanks for keeping up the support for this device!
Excellent work!
Even though I would have preferred a version without Gapps (either Vanilla or microG).
Amazing news! Thank you
Nice, I was waiting for LOS 19
Thanks!
I'm now in lineageos 18.1 and can flash this directly, or first flash miui and then flash this

Upgrades from lineage-18.1 have not been tested by myself yet. If you want to upgrade I'd suggest wait till official builds roll out.
Can i flash this without format data? cz dipper is my daily driver and it's gonna take a long time for doing backup
running good, battery life is so-so
there is no google feed. Bug or there is something to activate?

I'd wait a bit longer before flashing a daily driver with this...

Official builds wont include gapps.
I only included them in the first un-official builds as I cant find a flashable gapps build thats reliable at the moment to recommend.

Yes, i am waiting for Official builds NOT include gapps.
I like LineageOS because it doesn't include gapps.
Naked is beautiful.

Yup it is, but majority of us install gapps for all day to day needs, having both options will always be great
