Longevity of Leather Back Covers - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was thinking of getting a leather cover for my G4.
I was wondering if it's worth the money as I have seen a lot of G4's on ebay with very worn back covers - and they look terrible.
1. Do any of the covers in different colours last longer than others.
2. Are their any colour that doesn't wear at all
3. Is there any way to protect the leather, with a spray for example?
4. How long did it take your leather back cover to start wearing away, and was it just from general use rather than a fall
5. Has anyone use the replica fake leather plastic one's from alliexpress and how were they, they look pretty bad in the pics.
Any comments appreciated.

Yeah, my black leather back is holding up nicely. My wife's grey/teal one didn't look so good: corners got scratched and darkened purely from the pocket usage. Black is the way to go (if you're getting the back cover separately).

Hi there. My brown Leather Back Cover looks like the green one from Molius. All around the edges darkened from pocket usage. But just the edges, the middle looks like the first day. Got the golden plastic one too, but dont like it.

Yeah I have the black one. Its like new as always. All the others Will of course go away after awhile. That's just the way color skins are

I agree with the other posters. The black one holds really well.

Same as well. I have that to and looks like new still even after 2yrs

Well I just picked up a new G4. It looks from ebay that the black one is the only one that doesn't fall apart. I wonder why that is cause some of the other colors have the same texture. The non textured ones like the brown and the burgundy ones seem to be the worst. Pity as those 2 are my fav colors. Oh well, black it is then.

Oh right so it's kinda an illusion cause it's black. Oh well. It's a pity the non-leather one's look so plain as at least they don't deteriorate.

Exactly. Mines been beat up pretty bad. But u cant notice unless u get right up on it. I also waz able to place a wireless charging coil on it. Kinda presses up on it but still highly unoticable

Get the leather, then ...
Get the leather ... BUT ... then consider buying this item from FastTech (Chinese co.), PC + Silicone Protective Case Cover for LG G4: https://www.fasttech.com/p/5608604 - it's thin and not that noticeable and at $3.10 plus registered shipping (recommended), it protects the resale/trade-in value of your phone if and when ready as well as any fumbles when and where it lands on something and breaks your screen, etc. Worth every penny, IMO.
Cheers,
S.

Since august 2015. Daily basis use.
I take care of my phone so... Not good leather quality :/
(shot with G4 H815 itself!)

Should of gotten the black model where it's not so noticeable lol

Yeah... but I got it for a pretty fair price so, no complain.
It's a shame leather covers are so expensive tho -_-

Gizmo Dorks Rubberized Case Cover

Found this on Amazon, didn't see any other posts so i thought i would share. Super thin, flush and tight. paid $6.22 with shipping
go to amazon.com and search for "Gizmo Dorks Rubberized Case Cover for the Sprint HTC EVO 4G
Sounds like the same ones we were picking up from Ebay for $5.95-6.95. Not a bad case for being so cheap.
yea, they look the same as the ebay ones. i have the red one. it's very nice, decent grip, and the color is pretty damn eye-catching. i kid you not when i say that random people come up to me to ask what phone i have on a daily basis...
i have the blue and neon colors coming in too hehe..
Does it hug the phone tightly? Im looking for something rubberized but has a snug fit and covers the edge of the screen.
it does definately hug the phone tightly, but i wouldn't necessarliy say that it covers the edge of the screen, just the sides of the phone...
i got a red one a couple weeks ago. i using set my phone face down so the edges are starting to peel. anyone else have one and notice that?

i have the red one. it's been pretty nice so far. hugs the phone nicely, "rubbery" back provides nice grip. it covers the sides and very slight side edges of the screen.

i don't really put the phone face down (too anal about the screen), but i have noticed it shedding some inner paint on the back of the evo, on the battery cover. have you noticed that?
I've had the smoked one with the diamond pattern for about 3 weeks now. No issues. It does hold the phone firmly. My favorite case so far. No complaints except shipping costs... Wasnt available with Amazon Prime..
My previous case was the one found in the Sprint store with the three colors.

Review of RearthUSA Ringke Rubber Case for the EVO 4G

Hi everyone,
I was asked by Blake from RearthUSA.com to evaluate their new rubber case for the Sprint EVO 4G. I have the white EVO really wanted to get a good case for my favorite little everything device.
There are things that I was looking for. From my past experiences with other types of case I had some requirements.
1. I hated the hard cases, because they were very difficult to get off. So hard that eventually the face plate of the hard case will break. You have to pry them off and that cause scratches and nicks and scars on the edges of the seams of the case.
2. The silicon cases fit and give great grip, but everything sticks to the surface. The material grabs the lint and crap in your pockets and out of the air. It is very hard to pull out of your pocket. This make it more annoying when the phone is ringing and you are trying to get it out in time. You have to force it out and grab tighter, this causes you to accidently push buttons on the screen or the hard buttons on the phone.
3. I did not want the case to add to much thickness to the phone. I love how thin it is. Can’t understand why people want a thin sexy phone, but then add on these thick cases that give huge protection.
4. I don’t want it to look cheap. Most generic rubber cases look so plain, cheap, and non-sexy. They are like a potato bad on a sexy runway model.
5. I am also very concerned about the back camera lens. I am still trying to figure out what was on the designers mind when they thought it was a good idea to push the lens farther than the body. To be exposed to damage.. being on the back.. which will always hit all surfaces when you put it down.
Now for the Ringke cases that Blake wanted me to evaluate. They sent me 2 case to evaluate.
http://rearthusa.com/products-page/ringke-gadget-cover/htc-evo-4g/
I asked for the Red Wine and the Aqua Black.
Colors:
The colors are a little miss leading.
In normal indoor lights the color is lighter than you would think the name suggests. In the sun, it is looks more like cherry red. It is fine for me.
The Agua Black is completely miss-leading (unless I got the wrong color). Based on the only 2 dark colors available: Slate Gray or Aqua Black, what I have can not be Slate Gray because it is darker on the website. I wanted a “black/dark” cover. From what others that have gotten the Slate Gray, they said it it was too gray. The Aqua Black is partially transparent and the color is Gray! On the back side, you can see the my white EVO cover; and can read the “Sprint 4G” logo right above the kick stand.
Fit:
The 2 cases are different . The Red fits perfectly. All ports and buttons are aligned. All the edges hug the phone just enough. The phone is snug. Red case “fit” is perfect.
The Gray is slightly too small. On the front screen, the sides; the tight fit causes the lip to LIFT off the glass screen and pulled outwards to the sides. This causes the sides to not have clean straight lines. Around the kickstand the opening does not hinder it function, but lines do not match up right. I even used the Aqua for a week so that it might have time to “work itself in”, but it never changed it’s fit or shape. This also means that the Red case will keep it’s great fit; and not loose it over time.
Finish:
All the sexy lines of the EVO are not lost by this case. It highlights all the sexy curves. The detail is very good. I like the extra line that follows the battery cover. The add opening for the “htc” logo is a good touch and give it a quality design image. The added texture of the skin is nice too and give a plush feel while providing better grip.
To my 5 requirements listed above:
1. Check: it is a rubber case and is easy to get on and off. Simple.
2. Check: it has a great feel. Not sticky or grabby. Goes in the pocket and slides out clean.
3. Check: it adds a minimum of extra thickness, but still provides a good add rubber protection.
4. Check: the design and attention to extra detail keeps my EVO sexy and slim.
5. Check: they added a little extra padding around the back lens for protection.
Price:
The price is $16.99 with free shipping. This may seem a little high.
We all know we can buy generic rubber or silicon cases for $5 plus $3 shipping all day online. But at that low price, I still say they are not even worth the $8. For a good quality case that you will want to use daily, $17 is a good deal.
Conclusion:
The quality is great. (don’t order the Aqua Black unless they remake the mold)
The price is good, because you can spend more in retail stores.
Ringke case is a must buy for anyone that has the same concerns and requirements as I do.
Suggestion for RearthUSA.com:
They should have a 2 pack deal for $19.99 with free shipping.
With each color selection, it will include a solid jet black case.
Thanks and I hope this review is able to help others.
Special thanks to Blake at RearthUSA for his help to get these awesome cases to me for review.
Sincerely
Dan330
great review....looks like a nice case
Great review. I have been contemplating buying one of these cases and one of my options was going to be the wine color or slate grey. Looking at it in your pictures it looks more red than I thought I would be. I have to agree that their colors are deceiving. I notice they sell a solid black for other phone but the Evo only gets dark grey. If they had a solid black I would have purchased already. The slate grey is just a dark grey. I want this case but the colors are keeping me back.
The price is also a concern and should be changed to two for 19.99 like you stated. That would be a great deal.
Let me know if your looking to sell these if your not looking to keep them.
Ordered two as well. Should get them soon and will have my review. I got the white and dark grey for my white evo. Sold my otterbox commuter so I can buy one.

Alright time for my review of the rearth case:
My biggest issue was lint on my otterbox commuter, and the added weight and thickness.
I really liked the protection the commuter provided but it was a lint magnet. Was constantly wiping lint off as well as attaching the bottom flap.
I own a white evo and I didn't like the fact that the commuter completely hid that. I ordered the white cover to accentuate the white back.
I think it looks excellent. Also got a black one and you can see the white accents and it looks very good. All the cut outs are perfect.
Fit it very snug, the sides could be a little tighter but overall great fit.
Camera protection is perfect.
Most importantly for me it slides perfectly in and out of my pocket with no lint. I love it!
Came packaged very professionally.
Price is a little high but shipping is included, it is a local usa seller, and the build quality seems excellent. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.
Great job rearth on a great evo case!
mikfroyo evo!
mikfroyo... what color did you order? my Aqua Black was not like that! it was gray transparent.
update:
Blake from RearthUSA.. said that they are looking into my 2 pack deal... they liked it.. and are considering it. NO actual word to when or if they will.
Told him the same thing about 2 pack. I think it should be for the $16.99 though. I think that is aqua black. I like my white one best.

i would have liked the red to be darker... more "wine" color.
but still nice. of course that is a totally opinioned answer. I think my pics are very accurate to real world looks. so base it off that.
waiting....
he only said they are looking into it... it may or may not happen and maybe not soon.
and if your phone is walking around naked... hate for it to be damaged.. while you wait.
I bought this case before realizing that the reviews i've been reading about it have all been sponsored by Rearth... oh well. It was a good choice. I'm a case eilitist and silicone cases suck due to the "grippiness" of them.
TPU cases are pretty good but I found mine to be too thick.
The Seidio Innocase is really nice but their first round of production were too big, cases too expensive and even after they fixed production to make it fit better I still found the case to feel larger than the advertised "1mm' thickness. It made an allready wide phone super-wide.
This Ringke by Rearth is damn good. Best of both worlds imo. I've never felt a material like this before. I'm not stoked about the overlap on the front of the case--how it covers the borders around the screen--but I'm trying to look at it as a feature, that is, it keeps my screen protector's corners down and protected.
This thing is so thin, yet strong and smooth = no lint, no inverted pants pockets. It will, however, slide on a smooth surface so that may be a drawback for some. Off the phone it is as floppy as it looks in the video but reliably stiff once it's on the phone.
This message was not sponsored by Rearth
ALSO...
I emailed Rearth asking if they'll ever have a true black colored case, not grey, not transparent and they said they may have it as soon as one month from now.
Is it a tight fit case? I like tpu cases because of their tight fit no bulk.
Sent From My HTC Evo 4G On The Now Network From Sprint Using Tapatalk Pro!
yes.. it was sponsored.. but i was totally honest.. did not hold anything back.
yes.. it is a very tight fit.. the phone is hugged from all sides.

Yes. He said he sent his supplier (manufacturer) in Asia an email inquiring whether they would produce it in a (what I called) "true black."
He responded that they might and to check again and that he'd let me know at the end of the month. Haven't heard anything since, today's the last of the month and I understand these things take time.

Carbon Fiber Battery Door Vinyl (With Pics!)

Bought some 3M Di-Noc vinyl last week and it got here today, just finished up installing some on the battery door and I figured I would share the results.
This film really is awesome, much cooler than the traditional skins that you get, it has an actual texture to it and the carbon catches the light. Looks absolutely awesome in person!
I'm not one for hyperbole, but that looks AWESOME! Where can I get some of that film to play with myself?

I almost ordered from that site, they had a New Years promo going on (30% off) but the shipping was like $8. The guy on eBay is only like 6 hours from me and the shipping was free so that's why I ordered his.
It wasn't too hard to apply, but cutting out the camera hole was fairly difficult. If you look closely you can see some slight jagged edges around the top part. I may redo it in the future if it starts to attract dirt or peel up right there, but I've got so much of it now it doesn't really matter
that looks great! have you had any issues with it sticking to the battery door due to it not being a flat surface it sticks to?

I actually cant see the issue you are talking about from the pictures. Looks like you did a great job applying it. I just bought the 4x8 off that website with free shipping. Figured that would be enough for just the battery cover.
Did you actually wrap it around the battery cover or did you cut it along the sides of the battery cover ?
Edit: If you did wrap it around the battery cover could you possibly take an picture of the otherside of the battery cover ? If you don't mind that is. If not thanks for showing your results !

The small bulge at the top where the camera is had a little bit of trouble when I was applying it, but I used a small flexible squeegee and got it to stick just fine.
I thought that the bottom was going to be more difficult because it has the slight curve to it but it wasn't a problem at all.

I didn't wrap it, just cut out a piece that was about 1/2" wide on both sides then trimmed it with a razor blade by hand. I would not suggest using a razor in a knife though, I tried at first and it is too unwieldy so I used just the razor out of the knife and it cut really well.

White Metal Bumper Review w/ Hex Screws

Not much of a reviewer here, but I ordered this from eBay about 2 weeks ago and it arrived today from China. Packaging was a bit strange and is advertised as a Flip Cover i9300. It comes with 1 driver for the screws which can be put on your keychain. 6 screws ( 4 for the phone and 2 extra on the driver ). The overall feel is pretty smooth. The paint seems a bit cheap and might chip easily over time. The buttons are a bit difficult to access.. thats my main gripe, but not near as bad as pressing really hard on the otterbox commuter. No dramatic signal loss that I can tell .. I benchmarked at -87 and with the case -95. Pictures behind the link to show it off in action. If you have any questions please post them here!

Thanks for the pics, I ordered the same case and am waiting for it to arrive. Glad to see the signal loss isnt too bad.
EDIT: Quick question, how is the padding inside the bumper. This was my main concern with buying one.
Looks nice but buttons look a bit mad. I got this

It's really nice and quite flush. I was a bit worried about the slide action but it sits tight. My 4th case so far.
I want to get one but i really do not see the point in buying one for two reasons..
1. The back bit of the phone is the bit i want to protect this doesn't keep it from getting scratched and stuff.
2. It's ugly lol..

The bumper alone drops reception about 5db, adding a metal backplate would encase the phone in a faraday cage, thus drooping reception to 0. making it no longer a phone, be glad no-one has offered that, because anyone that bought it, would be wasting money.
wow i really like the look and shape of that metal bumper, I think it looks really nice!
I wonder if they have a version with buttons instead of holes.
I have a "fake triobump" without buttons, and its easy enough to use once you get used to it, I'd still prefer to have buttons for the cleaner look and ease of use.
the hex screw bumper with buttons would be perfect!
btw my "fake triobump" was slightly loose fitting at first, but it was very snug once i put on my screen protector and fake carbon fiber backplate (which also slightly recesses the camera :good I LOVE the fit and feel of this combination.

I want to get one but i really do not see the point in buying one for two reasons..
1. The back bit of the phone is the bit i want to protect this doesn't keep it from getting scratched and stuff.
2. It's ugly lol..

LOL the GS3 back is simple to replace and only $7 to get a new OEM one. I don't see a reason to add the bulk of a full case when I can just add a bumper to the part that's harder to protect.

Maybe...
Maybe this is what I have been looking for. Now I just have to find somewhere that can ship it to Sweden for a reasonable price.
Any tips?
I would so buy this if that logo isnt there. lol
^Yeah. Logo ruins this.

One major flaw, it leaves the camera lens exposed so that it can be scratched every time you put your phone down. Would need a quick Sugru mod.
It looks like you could rub the logo off
i bought this on amazon for $6.99 its not bad. was kinda my last resort as i was looking for something to match my pebble blue but theres nothing out there that did so i went for utility. its definitely has more grip than OEM but not by much. its a soft touch type material. fits just like an oem though. more rigid too

looks nice but the material looks like it will attract dust like crazy.

it attracts more scratches(superficial can be wiped away) than dust
Got my back in... Love it, minus the damn khomo across the bottom, it's perfect for me

Manufacturers need to make more of an effort if they insist on stamping their logos on the back of their parts? Especially when the logo looks like it was designed in about 3 minutes by a 12 year old....
O.P! Check out my camera mod! Hope this can be useful with your rubberized cover.

Got the same battery cover myself. It doesn't provide more grip in all situations, but definitely provides more "feel" and less slippery than the original one as it's not gloss. What I mean by all situations is that most of the time I don't have a problem gripping the original gloss back, but it definitely becomes harder to grip (slippery) when my hands are too dry or have a little dust/dirt on them.
Every review and picture I've seen of this case has it fitting perfectly and snuggly like the Samsung original battery cover. However, mine is a little bit off. Seems the tolerance on the tabs are just a bit off and won't fit completely on my S3. Some of the corners won't 'snap' to latch and there's a noticeable gap along the edge. Doesn't feel like it will fall off but you can see it. I ordered through Amazon and will be returning this one to them. I did order the exact same case again from Amazon to see if the tolerance on that one is any better. If it fits well, I am definitely keeping it.
The case makes the phone feel more solid. There is no give/bending/etc on it at all when pressing along the back. Again the biggest complaint is the company logo. I've remedied this somewhat by darkening the logo with some flat black paint. I used a paint pen so it was pretty simple to do without it bleeding onto the rubberized part. You could probably do the same with a Sharpie to make the logo stand out less.
Would be really sweet to get my hands on 2 covers. Any tips on how to buy them or getting them transported to sweden?
Many thanks!
looks good
