Instagram not working properly on Moto Z Play - Moto Z Play Themes, Apps, and Mods

Recently (outside the U.S.) Instagram has release the Live functionality, but so far I've tried to go live with my Moto Z Play, but without luck. Instagram keeps showing a message saying it's not possible to go live because of network problems.
I also have a working HTC One M9, and Instagram Live functionality works perfectly, no error messages.
I've seen some uses experiencing problems (with other phone models, not specifically the Moto Z Play) and some say that logging out and in again on Instagram will do the trick, others say to restore your phone to factory settings and then it'll work. None of these tips got me anywhere near. =(
I'd like to know if it's an issue with Moto Z Play, or if the next minor updates shall fix it, or maybe the big Nougat update may solve that.
Is anyone having the same issues?
Thanks a lot!

[Q] Problems with Google Play Music on M8

Hey everybody,
Having an odd issue with my brand new M8, which is completely stock. Few days ago I've received an firmware update (1.57.111.2 / German T-Mobile CID) for my handset. Since that update I'm not able to use Google Play Music while connected to my wlan network. It seems like, that Play Music is not able to recognize my fully functional connection and therefore refuses to download and/or stream music.
All other apps (including Spotify) are able to use my wlan connection without any problems.
Turning wlan off helps to correct that error, but that workaround burns away my included traffic
Here's what I tried without success:
1. Did a factory reset
2. Deleted all wlan connections and reconfigured them
3. Cleared Play Music's caches
4. Contacted HTC (recommended the factory reset) as well as my provider (didn't have a clue)
5. Checked the number of eligible devices with Google (currently 3 out of 10)
Now I'm a bit puzzled on how to solve this issue and wanted to ask, if anybody did experience (and maybe solved) this issue.
Best,
Marc
I'm having the same problem. I received a update from T-Mobile USA for my M8 this past weekend. Google Play Music can't keep on device or stream with "Download via Wi-Fi only" and/or "Stream via Wi-Fi only" checked in settings. I hope it's not draining my data

I've discussed that issue with some German M8 users (all on T-Mobile Germany) and it appears to be limited to some Google Apps and to HTC Backup. However one user did reach out to T-Mobile and they're basically just stated, that they're currently looking into that without providing any sort of timeframe within to expect an fix for this. Downgrading the firmware fixes the problem, so T-Mobile must be the ones to blame ... very frustrating.
Hi there,
did anyone solve this issue yet? There is a few of us with an M7 that have exact same issues. I am in UK, so may not be carrier related.

Hey,
Thanks for pointing that out. Wasn't aware, that this issue affects the M7 too. Unfortunately, I'm really stuck at the moment as everybody involved is pointing fingers at each others. HTC tells me, that T-Mobile messed up ... T-Mobile at least confirmed, that there might be an error. Right now I'm trying to get my M8 replaced, as somebody did break some functionality of my device. A German M8 user pointed out, that the WLAN App from Amped Wireless can be used to confirm the error, as it is not able to detect an established WLAN connection (like some of the Google apps).
However, no solutions

I'm really glad to have happened upon this thread, as I'm having the exact same issue on an AT&T M8 that I just purchased a couple of days ago. I updated with the new "extreme power mode" firmware, but now I can't pin music from Google Play at all. Similar explanation and attempted fixes as holychain.
I am having the same issue in Google Music. Also Google+ Fotos has the same Problem: The autosync does not recognize the wifi connection.
HTC One M8 T-mobile Germany- latest firmware 1.57.111. 2.

Guys, I found the solution to this. I am now on ARHD 71.1 with all the google apps working.
Such a simple fix (well for me) - when the phone connects to your wifi at setup, it automatically sets it as a mobile hotspot and restricts background data. It's just a tick box - go here: settings / More (under wireless & networks) / data usage / click the 3 dots top right and select mobile hotspots then untick your wifi network.
Post back if it works for you. I will post on the main ARHD thread as well as it might be something Mike was unaware off.

I still had to reboot and clear data from the app, but this is working for me. Unfortunately, Play Music is extremely slow to download music right now for me...

Oh thank god I found this thread. This fixed the issue for me, as well as fixing Google photos, and Flickr auto upload. I was almost beginning to regret ditching my 5S for the M8 if the whole reason for me finally switching was due to Google Music being more reliable than iTunes Match.
Whomever set that as default is a jerk.

No Access to Google Search, Play Store over LTE

Hey all,
I finally made the jump to the One M8 from my iPhone a few weeks ago, and I quickly unlocked, S-OFF'd, rooted, and flashed MaximusHD. I had to switch back to my iPhone for a couple of weeks for work reasons, and yesterday decided to switch back to the One. When I booted it up, I saw that an OTA was available for MaximusHD 7.1, so I installed it and realized that I was missing LTE and stuck on HSPA. A quick phone call to AT&T resolved my issue when I realized that it was simply a provisioning problem (since the 4S I had been using is LTE-less). Now for the strange part - after being on WiFi all day at home, I come to work and try to fire up the Google search app (while connected to LTE), no dice. The app throws a "Can't reach Google at the moment." So I fire up Chrome, and try google.com - after a painstaking few seconds, I get "Timed out". I navigated to a different site (CNN), just to test connectivity and voila! - the page loads immediately. I retried google.com, and the site still times out. Also, the Play Store has no connectivity over LTE, also throwing "Connection timed out." All other apps (Instagram, Speedtest, even GMaps/G-mail) work while on LTE. If I force the phone to drop to HSPA (by choosing GSM/WCDMA only in Mobile Network settings), then magically all the forementioned apps and google.com work properly. It seems that all the Google services are "blocked" while connected to LTE. So far I've tried:
- Airplane mode on/off
- Rebooting
- Clearing defaults and wiping all the application caches (as well as the Play frameworks)
- Factory resetting/Wipe Cache
- Flashing a different ROM (VenomOne) and starting fresh
- Confirmed that APN settings are correct (other sites other than google.com work fine)
- Deauthorized my phone in my Google account settings
- Created a new Google account
None of these worked. I also tethered my MacBook to the phone, and was able to access google.com via Safari perfectly fine while the phone was sharing it's LTE connection. I installed Firefox on the phone, and strangely google.com works fine as well. It seems as though any Google services that rely on my login fail to work on LTE, but work perfectly fine over HSPA. Google searches work, the GSearch app works fine, and the Play store loads immediately. Switch back to LTE, all other apps and sites load properly, Google services fail again (now including Sync).
Sorry for the lengthy post guys, but I'm out of ideas. I'm going to (unfortunately) flash the phone back to stock and see if that works, and if it doesn't, I'll drop by the AT&T store tomorrow and see if a new device makes a difference. It doesn't quite add up, unless its a weird provisioning problem. Hopefully you guys can help or might have an idea? Thanks!
Hey man, I'm jumping on board with you on this issue. I've been battling this same exact issue for the last month or so. I've literally tried everything in the book and can't seem to figure it out. Not hijacking your thread, but I was going to create a thread here as well since I'm out of ideas. Here's my experience, hopefully we can knock something out here to fix this plague of a problem.
I've flashed multiple different versions of firmware, multiple different ROMs, cleared every kind of cache you could imagine, etc. Often I can get the issue to disappear for a short while, but it always returns.
I did restore the phone to stock using the factory RUU. That actually did work for a short period of time, but then I started receiving a message that said "Restricted Access Changed - Data Service is Blocked".
That message led me to this site: Nexus 5 Restricted Access Changed Issue - Solved
After being 100% stock, I uninstalled updates for Google Play Services. That worked for 3 days. After 3 days, I connected to wifi for the first time, after I turned wifi off - no connection to the Play Store again.
That was last night. Flashed newest firmware (2.22.401.5) and Insert Coin 4.0.9 this morning... still no good. Google Search and the Play Store time out with "No Connection" messages.
The one thing I believe differs from me to you, is that HSPA+ (GSM/WCDMA) does not work either. I believe you said that worked for you?
Certain little things seem to randomly make it work for a short period of time. Once I flashed cache/dalvik and did a fastboot erase cache - magically worked after that. Though, that only lasted for a day or two.
Think I'm going to jump on Support Chat with AT&T to see if they can provide any help, though I doubt it. I'll update here as I go along so hopefully we can get this figured out. Sorry for the lengthy response.
Same issue, also from CT
Just responding to the OP, I am having the EXACT same issue as you with my Google Services not always connecting while I am on LTE. I wonder if it's a geographic thing as I am in Southeast CT Groton to be exactly although I have also had the same issues in Niantic at work. I also have AT&T service but my device is a HTC One M8 Developer edition. I sometimes can connect to Google services over LTE but it seems to be hit or miss. Services that I have been having trouble with include gouge search accessed through chrome, google now/voice search, Play store and Wallet. I have not had any issues streaming music over Google Play music, even when my other services were not functional over LTE for some reason. I have tried all the suggested trouble shooting steps such as uninstalling Google updates, clearing google play services cache and app data, verifying my date and time setting, etc. I even unlocked and rooted just to delete the hosts.txt file as was suggested in the system/etc folder. So far nothing I have done has completely fixed my LTE issue, it was the exact same behavior on kk 4.4.3 and after I applied the kk 4.4.4 OTA update. I have not tried S-off or installing any custom ROMs. As I type this my Google services ARE working over LTE but I'm not expecting that to remain constant based on past experiences.

Did you contacted your carrier about this LTE and Google services issues? Cause I can use all Google services on LTE. Its kinda a bummer that you cant use something that you are paying for tho.
Poslano z mojega HTC One_M8 z uporabo Tapatalk
This guy has the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help/lte-connection-issues-3-28-401-7-t2913168
He thought it was caused by flashing firmware. But based on your experience, it might just be a carrier issue.

[Q] Problems with Google latest apps

Since the revised google apps for lollipop started arriving just over a month ago I've been having problems on my Nexus 7 (wifi only), especially with play newsstand and youtube over WIFI but also with lollipop itself. Newsstand will occasionally show headlines but will fail if I follow a link (problems connecting to network please retry). Youtube won't show anything further than the startup screens. Older versions of both newsstand and youtube work fine, but occasionally FC as does the latest google calendar. And when I tried installing lollipop I just could not get it to log into my google account (various errors, cannot connect to network, network is busy...). I've tried several OS variants including stock 4.4 and carried out several factory resets. My phone uses the same google account and works fine over WIFI (so I know my account is not corrupted), but I did notice that some apps didn't work properly until I'd used them for a bit over mobile data instead of wifi.
Does anyone else have similar problems? Ive seen lots of discussion about WIFI problems with lollipop, but not so much with the apps.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try again on your phone

My watch or phone has suddenly decide it will not message or make calls, my phone is a Galaxy S4, I have not installed anything on either device to change the status quo and yet every call or message request is answered by try again on your phone , the phone itself works fine, I have restarted both devices, any ideas?
You could try unpairing then repairing the watch from both devices . if not reset
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Tried that after I posted, reset watch, but not phone, resetting the phone would be a last resort. I'm going to try it with another device Tomorrow so I can identify which device is the problem.
Same problem here
I have Nexus 4 with KitKat and Moto 360 with 5.0.1 and have the same problem. It started today. Tried clock reset android wear and Google Now reinstall, none of which helped.
I don't know if this is any help but on mine if I restart the phone I found I could text again from the watch, I would try to initiate a call and then I would get the error again, back to send a text and same problem.....BUT....if I restart the phone and only use the watch to send texts then it's fine, not a full fix I know but I'm hoping the update from 4.4.2 will fix it, just odd that it started overnight, everything was fine Friday??
Also, it won't register on my watch when a call is incoming on the phone.
Same issue here, though I am trying to use the "Note to self" feature: moto360 with a droid turbo, no lollipop yet.
Doesn't work even after a phone reboot, nor after getting Google Now setup. Anyone make progress on this?
Just got my 360, linked to an Oppo Find 7 (4.3). Having a lot of these "try again on your phone errors". Couple times it has worked, but often it doesnt.
Does the error signify a bluetooth link error or what?
Not Moto 360 but LG W Watch R...
.. with the same issue from today so this might no be a Moto Issue.
I took a screen shot of the watch, see attachment
The phone and watch are connected according to the companion and I do get notifications and cards on the watch
I've reset the watch an repaired, didn't work.
Restarted he phone as suggested by majreaper, didn't work
Phone: Xperia Z2, Android 4.4.4
Lg Watch R: Wear 5.0.1
My issue is solved
I have solved by downgrading Google Now app to version 3.6. Now I can initiate call and send texts from Moto 360 5.0.1 again. Using it with Nexus 4 KitKat 4.4.4.
What I did:
1. Go to setting > appplications > all
2. Find Google app
3. Uninstall updates
4. Get 3.6 version apk from apkmirror. http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-search/google-search-3-6-16-1614640-arm-apk/
5. Install it.
You might want to disable autoupdates for Google app for now. It can be done in Play Market.
That fixed it for me, thanks samfromlv!
The above works for me at least.
I just tried the above suggestion and un-installed the google app update although I didn't install the link shown. I just downloaded the latest from the play store (as an update) and it solved the issues I was having (again at least for now). So worth a shot for anyone having this issue. Was tearing my hair out over this

Desktop loses items when I restart

I keep having to replace items and folders on my desktop. I have things set up the way I want them, but if I have to "restart" the phone a bunch of them disappear every time. It's like the desktop state is not properly saved. I'm wondering whether it has to do with the merged CD card? I'm on the unlocked 4GB model XT1710-01. There's no SIM card yet because I have to port from Straight Talk Verizon to Sprint.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Is there a fix?
Interesting, we noticed a similar symptom on an HTC One M8. Unfortunately our fix was to get a Moto Z2 Play. Which isn't helpful, but could indicate that perhaps it's an android issue and an expanded search may be in order (i.e. not limited to the moto device)
My fix was to install Nova Launcher, but I shouldn't have to do that. I'm guessing that it's an Android Nougat issue related to the merged SD card.
