same way you update all roms. If this is your first time then just put new rom and gapps on sdcard and flash as normal. Wipe cache and davlik if you like. No need to wipe all unless you want to.. these are all user preferences and not mandatory for the rom to work correctly. Any issues do a complete wipe with Caulkins format all and then flash rom and gapps. Please remember that with AOSP you must flash gapps after flashing rom every time.
Hope that helped you..
I always wipe every time and don't have one off issues.

You dont have to wipe all just cache/davlik when upgrading... You dont have too but if you want too go right ahead. Just know you will have to reinstall software and information again I believe

Installing custom Rom and stucking on white htc screen every time

hi, i have a WFS A510e marvel with S-On, rooted. every time i try to install a custom rom in recovery mode it says that install complete but then stucks on htc white screen and never moves forward. i mailny use to wipe data/reset then wipe cache partition and then wipe dalvik cache and then installing a custom rom.
Any one please guide me on this
Uh, try using superwipe, it may help. If it doesn't then it might be a problem with your rom.
Which rom are you trying to install?
perfectly done?
have you performed all steps properly ??
nandroid backup?
wipe cache
advance wipe dalvik cache !!!!
Try format system partition?
-create correct partitions
-wipe data,cache,dalvik cache twice
-install superwipe
-again,wipe all twice
-install your rom and wait max 10 minutes
If i helped you,click "Thank's" button.have a nice night.

go to Hboot menu and do a Factory reset. (after flashing Custom Rom)
Got similiar problem, only EQDKP roms are working fine, tried cm7.2, 9 and Fresh Ice rom [which i want the most] and always stuck.
After installing the rom make cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe than reboot your phone... and for the first start you might have to wait around 10 to 15 minutes...

Are you sure you did everything as in the instructions? First partition to ext4 + linux swap, then install rom, boot and install data2sd. It works for me.
Anyway, we NEED someone knowledgable to try to fix this problem.

+1 that.
Guys, we need to stop telling people to wipe dalvik and cache before flashing a kernel. It's completely pointless.

Really. The kernel has nothing to do with the cache partition, so wiping it is literally useless. No need for it, only when switching ROMs, etc, but for kernels, no need.

I believe several kernel devs themselves have said it's completely useless to wipe. Has nothing to do with the kernel at all.

it was something else thar caused the bootloop. dalvik cache and cache involve your apps(system and user).

[Q] "Android is upgrading" every boot

hi all,
every time i boot up my phone i get the "android is upgrading" message...
i already searched the forum for a solution but non worked...
- re installed titanium backup - didn't work
- wiped dalvik and cache and fixed permission - didnt work
- some people suggested deleting titanium's odex file - i cant seem to find it in /data/app (the one which is on root level)
- even full wipe wont help, it'll work fine on 1st boot but after the phone is setup i'll get the message again
i could really use some help >.<

its rebuilding your dalvik at every boot. did you flash any mod? it could also be your rom/kernel if it has a dalvik wipe script included. some devs like to trick you into believing that their mod/rom/kernel is the fastest, so they delete you dalvik on every boot. this makes it appear, yes only appear, like their stuff is extra fast. but in reality, its just a clean dalvik. also, check your init.d folder such scripts.

it should happen after flashing a new rom, or when you clear your dalvik. check if there is a init.d folder with such a script. a wipe doesnt get rid of the init.d folder, just user data.

you are using a 4.1.x rom and kernel? i just talked to Francisco Franco, he said his older kernels used to wipe dalvik upon boot.
I have similar problem. I wiped dalvik, and now it gives me Starting apps message every time it's loading. I know it's normal for apps to start lol, but I never had constant notification for it :/

Hmm using Franco 283...
But when I do a full wipe the kernel is wiped as well isn't it?

maybe a rom/cpu control app with a wipe dalvik option?
Again, full wiping would delete these apps...
Maybe tomorrow I'll try installing an older version of the Rom... I hope it'll work cause this is starting to get frustrating

JellyBomb problems.

Hey guy's I recently reflashed JellyBomb on my phone due to some problems. For example when I boot my phone up it get's stuck in landscape on the lock screen and sometimes when I'm texting it get's stuck in landcape again and I can't press anything. For I don't know how long cause I usually just pull out the battery and reboot. I also have to clear cache and davik then it works. Until have I have reboot my phone Does anybody know the problem is.

That shouldn't affect the system too much; I would try flashing the kt747 TW kernel, and see if your system smooths out.

any word if that smoothed out? I had an issue where i guess i flashed a rom prior to flashing the upgraded firmware/modem and it caused a ton of odd issues. So make sure the rom you are using also is using the same radio/firmware you are. If it isnt, the main thread of the rom should have a DL link for the modem/firmware, or there are a couple AIO modem/Firmware dls out there.
