[Q] SuperSU Reflash after Update - LineageOS Questions & Answers

I have an Moto X Pure (xt1575) running the 01/30 build that I updated from 01/23. I noticed that I had to manually reflash SuperSU after the update script ran. Is this common or should I be setting something in SuperSU so I don't have to do that?

You will need to flash it each time if you want to use SuperSU. If you were to choose to use the official Lineage SU (system), it will persist after flashing updates.

not on my s3. the team said it would be a one-time flash. and that's how it is on my phone.
to the OP, you probably did something wrong

Interesting, OK. Which team, LineageOS team? They were only taking about their SU add-on, but that is good that it works the same.

OK. However the OP specifically mentioned SuperSU which I don't think will persist with update.

You would need an addod.d script, similar to the one in the Lineage SU zip. I don't use SuperSU, so I don't know if you could use the Lineage script without modification, but I think any changes needed would be trivial.
It is entirely possible that someone has already written an addon.d script for SuperSU, so try googling if writing your own scripts isn't your thing.

Cyanogen OS 13

Hey guys
Does anyone know when we will get Cyanogen OS 13? I have been on stock for 2 weeks now due to a rumour of COS13 coming. If you have any news or even a beta build then please post it below.
Regards
Yasteel
AFAIK it's already released.

Mine was a clean stock 12.1 install first, then update applied from recovery to 13
Mine is working just fine, no problems to report at all..... hrmm so, I wonder what's different
http://s32.postimg.org/vz9j03dhx/Screenshot_20160429_190709.png
Me too that's exactly what I did load 12.1 by fastboot to ensure everything is overwritten
note super su stock dosn't work but the beta does
I'm I noob here and I don't understand what everybody's talking about here. From my understanding, a flashable COS13 zip is out in the open and works? How should I go about flashing it if I want to keep TWRP recovery? Do I have to do a clean install?

as far as I am aware there is NO COS 13 zip for the crackling, only this incremental update (ie an update from 12.1, so that needs to be installed as a base first and then the update flashed from recovery)
There is CM 13, both snapshots and nightlies that an be flashed from TWRP as ZIPs
TWRP an be flashed from fastboot whenever you like, so that shouldn't cause you any major concerns :good:

Personally I would ensure I have backed up, but in theory ..Yes, though if it were me.. I would, backup, wipe, flash stock recovery, update
I am afraid I can't answer fully, as I always flash clean...soz

Ok. Well, if I backup beforehand then I should be fine if anything goes wrong. One last question though, do I need stock recovery in order to flash the zip?

xPosed and Cataclysm ROM

Hi all,
I'm trying to install Xposed on cataclysm from. I flash the zip file, but after optimization of applications I have a force close of the UI system app. Then I need to uninstall the framework in order to restore the system. Anyone have some suggestions? Any other ROM like cataclysm with Xposed already in?
Thanks all
I know it's not an answer to your question, but I'd advise against using a ROM that's been discontinued half a year ago. Though Cataclysm was a great ROM i moved on to Pure Nexus myself. Works great with Xposed.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried to install it but has some problem with the root. I flashed the zip of SuperSU but it start to boot loop. For that I turned back to cataclysm. I will wait of someone has some ideas... In case I will install pure and try again!

You're doing something wrong.
Are you using the correct Xposed? Version 86? X64?
Are you on the latest Pure Nexus and latest Vendor img?
Are you using latest SU? 2.76 ?
If you're saying you are having bootloops with Cataclysm, I and everyone else will not help you. That ROM is dead, it cannot be compatible with anything current.

Don't know, haven't used that feature ever on any ROM.
I think Gravitybox has it though? not sure.
Anyway, yeah, just use a different one, that is currently supported. Otherwise it's impossible to pin-point a ROM-SuperSu conflict.

No, but GravityBox has.
I'm using a combination, which you can see in my signature and it works perfectly.

Some people reported bootloops when flashing in the wrong order. If you clean flash pure Nexus and stick to the flashing instruction there should not be a problem.

host file locked [rooted]

Unable to turn on write permissions to host file.
Using ES FileExplorer. Root Enabled.
Thanks for any assistance.
Hmmm... That's something new to me. Must be some miui thing keeping it protected to run their ads. Did you try AdAway or similar that writes/replaces the file directly?
BTW ES FileExplorer is not what it used to be, full of useless and annoying "features". Try MiXplorer and thank me later.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23109280
Thanks! I was thinking the same about Miui somehow locking it down. I did try AdAway (first thing) and it just fails at the "applying" stage. That is what made me look at the permissions of the hosts file. Do you think I have to configure AdAway differently to work on here? It has always been straight forward on all of my other devices.
I am gong to try MiXplorer. Thank you for that bit of information. We'll see how it works.

You need need to disable SELinux with this app and then try again.
Thank you Doom Slayer as well! I used SELinuxModeChanger-v3.2.apk and MiExplorer thanks to your suggestions.
I still find that the system remains unaffected. From within AdAway I cannot even do Open Hosts File.
However, a plain hosts editor app has no issues in both opening and adding entries manually.
Could be some clues there?

Make sure u use latest adaway, and you can also try use it as system app. In case that won't help I would suggest to try to flash SuperSU again.
That's strange, can you set permissions for it in TWRP? 0755?
Just a quick input, using adaway 3.1.2 (57) compiled by mrRobinson on June 26 2016 and it works perfectly
Yeah, remember seeing thread on miui forum about AdAway... Maybe there's something special about installing/running it on miui

I will have to reload TWRP and give it a try.
But yes, it is weird. Maybe it is because I'm using the Developer ROM.

Yes I'm on Global Beta because I'm using Hydrogen (3GB/32GB) version of Mi Max and you are having Helium (3GB/64GB) so you may be using the chinese developer edition but that should not make any difference in using AdAway. Anyway you can try to take the nandroid and clean flash (just to try and rule out any further problems)

Yeah, something is wrong with my version. I can't even get SuperSU 2.76 to work. Installed, but non functional. Binaries won't load, Installation failed.
Ugh. I guess this ROM is just not working right. (China Development (not Global)). This is because Global is only for 32GB version. I am 64GB.
Please correct me if I am wrong: http://en.miui.com/download-302.html#446
I know there are some custom ROM's out there on the Miui site, but I was not sure.

I probably need the new ROM they've been promising. The one I have seems to be very buggy when doing advanced things.

That did not work TWRP says 4 errors occured while flashing process, but without deyails.
I downloaded twice, thought that a bad file might be the reason, but no.
In developers options the "root" options are extended though, but take no effect when root is activated. I installed SuperSu and tried to complete the .binary without success. I can't find my mistake ?

As for the encrypted devices I really cannot say anything because mine is decrypted and is the only device I have flashed on. I don't know whether and how it works on ecrypted ones.

I don't know why the maintainers remove those parts from google's sources, maybe they intend to include them later. Anyway, yours is a good idea, I might give it a try adding them back.
You've made a right decision!
However, after installing gapps, I can't use FaceLock, which can be normally used in the previous version of the rom.
