4.0.2 works but launcher resets every 3 seconds - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

My OP3 phone was stock before the OTA upgrade. After the upgrade the phone turns on and for a few seconds it looks like all is well...except for all my widgets are gone. Three seconds later, and every 3 seconds after that, the screen refreshes. The bottom row of apps will launch, but the application folder does not work. Pull downs and pull ups work. Fortunately I had OK Google turned on before. Now OK Google has become my launcher ("OK Google. Launch Sudoku," for example). I can also launch from the Google Play Store app. Once they are launched, the apps work fine, notifications come in as expected, phone calls work both ways, messaging works, everything works except the launcher.
I have downloaded the new Oxygen system to my Win 7, dragged it onto the phone, and reloaded the update through the stock recovery (twice). What can I do to get the launcher working?

I have loaded the Google Plus launcher the the Play Store and can use the phone normally. It's just not a OnePlus anymore. Can I get just the OnePlus launcher?

Stock launcher freezing sometimes

I am un-rooted and have keep my N7 2 stock since I have had it. A few weeks ago I decided to try the free version of the Nova launcher. I decided to stay with the stock one after several days of trying it out, and thus uninstalled Nova from the settings app list.
Now on occasion the stock launcher freezes after swiping home screens back and forth...or exiting an app....or like things. Usually it just freezes and after 10 seconds or so it unfreezes. Sometimes I get a warning that the launcher stopped responding with the "quit/wait/cancel" popup.
So it seems installing and then a few days later uninstalling the Nova launcher has left some fragments or affected the stock launcher process.
Is there some sort of app/system clean up I can do without doing the system reset? I do not want to loose app settings.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I have the freezing issue even when I DID NOT install Nova.
It's a known problem this freezing thing.

Touchscreen freeze

Hello !
I made the march update yesterday, and now my touchscreen freezes if I don't use it for a few seconds. To make it work again, I have to lock/unlock the phone, or to tap the screen until it works.
It's probably a software issue, because it happenned just after the update. Does someone have the same problem ?
I'm having the same problem. It's the right 3rd of the screen that becomes unresponsive. If you swipe over on the left side of the screen, you will be able to use the right side again. This is my second day with this and it's becoming incredibly annoying.
I just realised it ! For me, the only responsive part is the left 4th of the screen. I hope Google Will fix it soon. I don't want to reset my phone.
I'm not seeing this issue... how long is it taking to freeze? also what are you guys running? stock or stock rooted?
I'm running stock. If you wait 5 seconds after the scroll bar vanishes, the right side of the screen is unresponsive. If you swipe the left side, it works again. It's really a problem when I'm doing remote desktop to my computer and when I'm playing candy crush.

You should post any post March update issues you are having, here. https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!category-topic/nexus/other-discussions/2HXGtYoPwa4
I'm running stock too. It takes aproximately 6 seconds for the touchscreen to freeze.
I just tried to reboot in safe mode : it doesn't solve the problem.

Does it happen in recovery or bootloader?
I just received the update this afternoon and I'm encountering the same issue. Quite frustrating.
I got my Nexus 5X yesterday with exactly the same issue.. Flashing any older factory image did not help. :/
I wonder if opting in to the Android N beta would have any effect. Not sure I'm ready to commit to running beta on my only phone; but I am tempted.

On my phone the problem existed on stock rom (I tried 3 drifferent versions), cm13 and N preview. I do not think that flashing any other Rom would make any difference.

Appreciate the information on your experience. Hopefully this is something Google can track down and is correctable in software.
Exact same issue for me since MHC19J. This is driving me nuts.
I've tried all versions except a full CM ROM. So stock, beta, and a few different AOSP builds. I cannot reproduce any screen issues being reported here.
Is there maybe a common app that you all share? No one has mentioned whether you are rooted or not.
another day (not) in paradise

the best example: Open Wifi Analyzer (in Listview) wait for results and the tap the "Back" Button. (not taping or swayping around during the wifi scan process).
Open Wifi-Analyzer (Listview) wait for result and tap the Backbutton. It took 34 seconds and 34 tapps on the backbutton until the screen turns off, but no reaction until i activate the screen.
Nexus 5X
Stock
Build MHC19J; OTA
No Root Access
for me it's beginnig on entering the SIM-PIN. It takes a few tries to enter my PIN.
Sometimes it's the Back-Button (Back - Menu - Switching Apps)
And it seems to be on the left side of the screen

I'm running stock without root.
Reviewing the previous posters list of apps, the only things I have in common are the standard Google apps.
Stock without root.
The issue is still there even when rebooting in safe mode, so it seems to be unrelated to any installed app.
Time to RMA I guess.
Edit:
Just read this in a reddit thread:
Update: I've managed to fix my issue by reverting back to a 6.0.0 build and formatting the cache, system, and userdata using the fastboot tool during the new rom install.

Same issues here.. Just found that thread.. Got my phone yesterday and thought it might be a hardware issues and thinking of shipping it back.. But now..
Tried newest factory image unrooted, CM13, Bliss, DU every single ROM has it.
It also appears directly after bootloader I think, where you can lock your Phone before booting the real ROM.. It's a pain in the ass!
I have this too on my wife's phone. My 5x is fine. March update caused the right side of screen to go dead to touches after 6 seconds of non use...
So annoying ..

Delay when closing apps?

I have been having this minor problem that when I don't use a web-based app like Chrome for a couple hours, there will be a clear delay when closing Chrome. So basically, I don't open chrome for a couple hours, I launch it and it has to reload back into memory, and then when I go to close Chrome, there is a pretty bad delay between when I press the home button and when the animation starts. This also happens when using websites through the Google search bar at the bottom of the launcher. I am using the pixel launcher, on 8.1 stock with root, no kernel or TWRP, no themes. This did also happen with 8.0, and because it is still bothering me, I figured I'd bring it up. Is anyone having this problem too?

Pandora Widget not working

I can't seem to get the Pandora widget to work. I can create the widget on the screen, but tapping the widget doesn't open the app, or pause, play etc. Tried the usual, clearing cache, reinstalling, etc. Does anyone else have a problem? App opens fine from the App drawer, just not from the widget.
I just received my Pixel 2 XL a week ago (12/22/17) and I'm running the latest Android Oreo 8.1.0. I have the same issue with the Pandora widget.
Thank God someone else is running into this. Been having this problem since I began the 8.1 beta, and it continues into 8.1 stable. I'm using Nova Launcher but I've verified the issue exists in the Pixel Launcher as well.
I went back a version or two back, I believe 1711 or 1710 to get the widget to work again.
I saw a response from Pandora on another thread and they are aware of the issue and working on it.

Strangest thing occurred

It first started with doing an update all to all apps in the google play store. I clicked on update all then the google play store crashed. I tried to open the application, but kept saying google play store keeps stopping. I then cleared data and cache from settings and that still didn't work. I then rebooted into Safe mode to see if there where any rogue apps. Found the issue then rebooted. Upon rebooting. My settings all went to default. This included my hex builds being completely wiped, default keyboard was changed to Samsung, wallpapers went to the default, my launcher was set back to ONE UI ( currently use nova ). This really isn't a big issue since it took me less than 5 minutes to bring everything back to normal. Is there any logical reason to why this would happen? Did Safe mode trigger something?
It is the incompatibility between some of the hex build(a) and latest updates. You now know how to recover from such occurence
3rd party launchers
Hyperion boot looped my Note 10+ twice, full reloads.
Prior to that it was less than stable... trashware
The native Samsung launcher is faster and stable than any of the 3rd party launchers I tried including Nova.
One UI is AOK.
No more crashes or boot loops... no more 3rd party launchers for me.
The only thing that annoys me is the white icon lettering. Everything else I can mod with the Good Lock apks and such; stable, low resource usage and the work/look great.

What was the original issue? Without knowing that it is kind of hard to guess what would have caused everything else.

I think it was safe mode that caused the other "problem." I booted my Verizon Note 10+ 5G into safe mode, then rebooted back to normal. I use Microsoft Launcher (Preview) and when it rebooted it was set to OneUI. I opened up Microsoft Launcher and set that as default and everything was back to normal.
Since this is the first time I booted into safe mode on my phone, I can't tell if that is normal or not.
P.S. There were a few other things I had to fix after rebooting into normal mode. It reset the defaults to a few other things like the default browser and dialer.
