Most stable N7 ROM? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I've seen several N7 ROMs for N900T, but they all seem to have bugs and/or stability problems.
Which N7 ROM works best for everyone?
Darklord? AryaMOD? Mag-Ma-NX? Phronesis? Other? Thanks for all replies and especially any detailed experiences!

It depends on your preferences really. AryaMod and Phronesis are customizable, where Mag-Ma-Nx is a pure Note 7 ROM. For me personally I use Mag-Ma-NX because to me it's the most stable and complete Note 7 experience. I could never get mobile data to work with DarkLord so I never got to experience it to provide feedback. NFC doesn't work on any of them as we have a different baseband. Also the other ROMs do not have Flipboard Breifing. There are a few fix zips you need for Bluetooth and smart stay as well as Ultradata savings amd smart manager. I am also using DarkLord kernel as it is one of the only kernels that allow you to enable greyscale. But don't use DarkLord Kernal if you like to overclock or tweak because DarkLord isn't tweakable. Mag-Ma still has Dev support the others haven't seen updates for months. Hope that helps.

Thank you! I guess Darklord Kernel plays well with MagMa? That's the ROM I ended up with. Couple issues (camera keeps FC'ing, something keeps waking the screen, couple other small gripes) but I'm new to it so there might be fixes.
Does DarkLord Kernel have solid performance and battery on MagMa? Thanks!

Dark Lord Kernel does well for my use. The kernel that comes with MagMa would do better for you if you have knowledge of over clocking and tweaking for performance and better battery life. I'm not a gamer so I have no need for that. The camera issue seems to be more stable when selecting the S7edge version from aroma installer. The Note 7 camera is sketchy. I haven't experienced the screen waking issue but I do know there is a Smart Stay zip fix floating around in that thread that could help with that. There is also a setting, Keep Screen Turned Off, that you could activate under the Dispay setting that may help too. Good luck to you bro.

Great to know. i don't game either, just want stable performance and battery. I'll try Dark Lord Kernel. Yeah, the N7 or S7E cameras gave me nothing but problems in MagMa. I listed them out there, but basically they crashed too much and didn't give real benefit over N4 camera. NXTeam vastly improved the N7 camera in the latest MagMa release (UX), but it still has a delay on tap focus. That ruins it for me. Only the N4 camera does instant tap focus. Also, MagMa has an issue right now with resizing videos for text. Can't do it unless you record the video in text quality directly from Messages. Surprised at that, but hopefully it'll get fixed in a future release.
I'll try the kernel. Thanks!

Seems everyone I try, I get a bootloop once the SIM is in. I'm on att with n900t phone. Any ideas?

4.2.1 CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM

Hey everyone. Just wondering if anyone has had chance to install CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM and if it's good? I'd imagine it to be quite buggy at the moment due to the fact that it's only just been released. Quite keen to update to latest android 4.2.1 but don't want to update to a buggy ROM.
Links: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...oid421-jellybean-galaxy-note2-n7100-cm101.htm

I just flashed this rom to test it out. Lots of graphical bugs(especially when using the camera) and all of the S-pen features DO NOT WORK. And i also have noticed that my power off button whenever i click it , it does not turn off the screen to go in lockscreen. Other then that..man i was so happy to see AOSP i love it so damn much but..this is just not for me i wish these bugs were fixed and then AOSP is on!!! Thanks for the link though.
No worries for the link . I was surprised no one had been talking about it on here before when in posted it. Cyanogen seems that be the most popular ROM because it's Google stock and optimised. currently using ParanoidAndroid which is great. I highly recommend. Hopefully they'll release a 4.2.1 version of that soon!!

Are there graphical like bugs on PA , I think the S-Pen features dont work on that too but you can get some apps to have like features and can i have the link to the version you are currently using please, Also hows the battery life on it ? Thanks!

No graphical bugs in PA at all (as far as I am aware). I'm really pleased with it. I'd recommend it to anyone. Tablet apps on this phone also work beautifully well. Like YouTube for instance.
Battery life is SLIGHTLY (we're talking marginal) decreased from Samsung ROM. However, to give you an example of how good the battery life still is - I go to work and use my phone throughout the day for Spotify. It's always connected to wifi at work as I have hardly any signal. I am also always connected to GPS so i can get the most out of things like google now etc. I unplug at 8:30 and get home for about 6:30 every night. My battery when I get home is usually 60%. So I can't complain. When I had my iPhone I used to have to stay constantly tethered!!

Help Finding Daily Driver

I know that I should "try them myself", but there are a billion ROMs here and I haven't been following any outside of CM/AOKP. It doesn't help that a few of the ROM threads here that seem promising are kind of messy and difficult to sift through and the forum is too saturated to search properly for simple terms. Instead of posting questions in ROM threads and risking getting flamed, I decided to create a thread here. I'm looking for a new daily driver based on TouchWiz JellyBean (no AOSP/CM/AOKP/etc.), and I'm willing to try out ROMs based on your suggestions
Primarily looking for:
-Stability and lack of bugs (all hardware/software works as intended)
-Speed and smoothness
-Battery life
-Screen Modes (dynamic, standard, natural and movie modes from international version/Note 2)*
-one-handed operation mode (for keyboard, dialer, etc. from Note 2)*
-pop-up browser and/or multi-window/multi-view
Not crucial, but preferred:
-AOSP/multi-target/circle lock screen
-GNote 2 SMS app or inverted/dark background AOSP SMS app
-4.2 keyboard (I can add this myself if anything)
-camera on call and enable camera on low battery
Don't want:
-4.2 camera (unless I can remove it and use the TouchWiz camera)
-AOSP/AOKP themed MMS with quickreply (unless the bugs with image display, sending and rotation have been fixed)
-Bravia engine/acid audio/beats audio/etc. (it's fine if I can remove it myself without breaking anything)
-heavy/over-the-top theming
*not sure if any ROMs here have this feature
If you're running, developing or familiar with a ROM that you think is close to what I'm looking for, please direct me to the thread and I'll give it a try. Thanks in advance for the help

check out youtube for video reviews man
Well, I spent many hours online researching and reading about ROM's, made a nandroid and clean-flashed a few ROM's from AT&T and Rogers bases. So far...I'm really disappointed in TouchWiz. While my friends with the S3 or Note 2 on other carriers have shown me a fast, fluid and flawless out-of-the-box experience (albeit with some bloatware), every TouchWiz ROM I tried was noticeably laggy to the point that some of my apps and games were unusable (same apps are just fine on my friend's devices and on my device running AOKP). On top of that, TouchWiz seems to introduce black clipping in video playback using any hardware player (not present on my friend's Note 2 and not present on my S3 with AOKP). This is a dealbreaker for me.
I guess I really do have to settle with AT&T's devices: either certain important features don't work or I have to deal with a bunch of minor bugs and the device lags more than my Captivate in some common scenarios

Does your ROM include an MMS app besides the AOSP one with quick-reply? I know everyone says it 'works 100%', but I always have problems with MMS images not displaying properly/at all after a week or two of using it. Not to pester you with questions, but do you also happen to know if the mDNIE mode can be changed in TouchWiz ROM's (ie. via build.prop)? I suspect this is what's causing the black clipping issue, as I always disabled mDNIE in AOKP.
Edit: Nvm, I just noticed the option to flash another MMS app. Still curious about mDNIE modes though, as I can't stand the dark scenes in my videos being invisible on TouchWiz ROM's.

Not sure about the mdnie in videos, but this is the latest build from Samsung. Newer then 99 percent of touchwiz roms, give it a try and report back

I just started downloading it, I'll definitely report back tomorrow when I get a chance to flash it. Not sure how I overlooked it in my search :silly:
From what I remember from a post by supercurio, the mDNIE tuning is part of the drivers and would require a custom kernel to fix, as the black clipping issue is present on almost all TouchWiz devices except the original Galaxy S and devices with screen modes that can be changed to something like 'Cinema' or 'Movie' (Exynos devices).
Try loserskaters rom "LoserRom" I flashed it a while ago and its doing great, no FC's, no random reboots etc etc

I was recently running Drew Garen Serenity 1.2. It's a port of the Jelly Bean ROM from the Note 2. It has all of the working features of the Note 2 except Multi Windows. It does include the 1 hand operation mode you were wanting. It also includes the Note 2 Gallery, which I really liked.
Galaxy Mod Rls14 is really good too and features working Multi Window. I can't remember if it has 1 hand operation.

Definitely an improvement. Seems similar to the previous ROM's I tried, but now my apps and games no longer lag horribly. I like how light and AOSP-like it is from the initial flash. Unfortunately, the black crush issue is still present and I think that'll have to be a kernel fix similar to Voodoo color on the original Galaxy S. I might keep this for now though.

How stable do you find those? The main reason I was avoiding Note 2 based ROM's is that there seemed to be a lot of bugginess reported in the threads and after a while I just want something I can flash once and forget.
Thanks for all the replies, these suggestions are all in the direction I'm looking for
Edit: I gave Serenity 1.2 a try, and while it gives me the one-handed operation I'm looking for, but the Screen Mode option in the settings doesn't seem to do anything, so videos still have black crush. I was able to poorly get around this on my Infuse by using a screen filter app, but this doesn't seem to have an effect on the S3. I'm positive this is a kernel/driver issue at this point.
I found Serenity 1.2 and Galaxy Mod Rls14.1 very stable. Actually I can't remember encountering a single problem. I personally love TouchWiz. That's one of the main deciding factors for me when choosing a ROM. I guess I've just got used to it over the years. My first smartphone was a Galaxy S Fascinate on Verizon. I tried Galaxy Mod 15 but had some other issues with my phone that had to be addressed before I could really get to test it out. I'm thinking about trying it again. Which ever ROM you decide to try my best advice is to do a lot of research before you do any flashing and for goodness sakes MAKE A QCN BACKUP! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546 I didn't and lost my IMEI and had to order a replacement phone because I never could get it completely straightened out.
Jovy23 Darthstalker #9 TW and Ziggy kernel is my DD themed with Morphology. Very, very fast excellent battery life and VERY stable. I've had Serenity, CM10, Triune, Liquid Smooth, PacMan, parakangandriod and many, many others.
I highly recommend Darthstalker its, in my humble opinion, one of the best.

stable aosp rom?

hi all.
tried a few aosp roms. all great. just some annoying random reboots. im not a heavy customizer. i just like the feel of vanilla android. and also i like smaller dpi settings. currently running ptmr3's jedi rom. excellent rom, havent experienced any reboots. though its a nice rom, i like aosp roms. any out there without random reboots?
also with the kitkat update our note3 is getting, will future roms be more random reboots less or none at all? im suppose to meet someone this coming wednesday to trade my note3 for his nexus5. or should i wait til new roms are cooked up based on the kitkat update for better aosp roms?
also trying to figure out how to remove this damn widget on lockscreen. cant seem to get rid of it.
thanks all

I've been on the unified Note3 CM11 builds and have been enjoying them quite a bit. The only reboots (and lockups) I got were from tweaking my CPU settings...apparently the only parameter that was pissing my phone off was the conservative governor. Also clk_min won't stay at the floor...but aside from slightly compromised battery life CM11 has been near perfect. I'll take the very slight battery life reduction for AOSP...also, the ART runtime is wayyyyyy better than Dalvik. Worth it for that alone. I just enabled that "for good" today but I already expect enough battery life savings to make up the difference (which was admittedly small).
Performance is top notch (even when underclocked to 960mHz), the ART runtime seems to make scrolling, chrome, maps and all around navigation snappy as hell...and I don't have to deal with TWiz. To each their own, touchwiz ain't for me. All the important stuff appears to work (LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, camera, 1080p video recording...I can't even remember the things I used to worry about...everything works fine, even the 'settings bug' is resolved now...)
YMMV, of course.

Thanks. I will try it out after i play around with gummy. Yah im not a fan of touchwiz either. How do i enable ART? i have never tinkered with that. Also regarding cpu tweaking. I dont really bother with that and i still get reboots and lock ups. Most times i just leave the kernel that came with the rom alone and not change it.
im a flashoholic. & i truley hate touchwiz roms. but ive been a week on AOSB v1.30 (longest ive ever stayed on one rom lol) its smooth & zippy, it has some amazing battery life. also vanir isnt a bad rom.

Lollipop 5.0 Roms! Experiences/Bugs/Advice

Hi friends!
I've been around the forums the past few days and noticed several Android 5.0 lollipop roms for our device. I've tried out a few of them and have been very impressed with how good they are. So I'd like to ask you guys, what are your experiences with any of these Lollipop Roms? Is there any you prefer? What are any bugs you've come across? Is there any advice you'd like to give on flashing or using these roms?
I think this could be a great way to gather our thoughts and keep track of how development is going.
Thanks!
I am eagerly waiting to make one of these roms my daily. Flash every nightly of the cm12 and play around for about an hour but then nandroid back. Not that many issues but still seem buggy and things that i use daily like the IR blaster dont work. I find it amazing how fast the devs were able to get us 5.0 roms so quick! And almost fully functional to! Maybe you can list the roms? To my knowledge the only 5.0 roms iv seen are 2 cm12s and a 5.0 pac.

CyanogenMod 12.0 by Phantomphreak53

So far I've found Phantomphreak53's CM rom to be the most stable. Only thing not working is video recording which is a common issue amongst all of the lollipop roms. All in all these builds hold up extremely well for Alphas.

I am currently using the CM-12-Unofficial by PhantomPhreak53 and here are my thoughts so far:
I clean flashed the 11/21 build after formatting data (I know this is not required or necessary) and a wipe. With a clean slate, it worked very well with the exception of NFC, double tap to wake, video recording and the resolution was off. Double tap to wake was fixed by editing a file, resolution was fixed with build prop, and I didn't need NFC or video so it was fine.
I dirty flashed the 11/23 build and NFC has been fixed. The video recording still doesn't work and the error "can't connect to camera" pops up after you try. The 11/23 build also fixed double tap to wake, added privacy settings, and fixed the resolution. Some people have noticed battery drain, but I get just about the same I got with stock. I will get about 3-4 hours of SoT with roughly 12-15 hours off the charger. This is all LTE on T-Mobile. Overall, I think 11/23 is good enough for a daily and I am currently using these "nightlies" as my dailies. There are some reports of crashing, but I haven't had any so far.

I was running the Pac Rom build for a few days, but it seems the developer has switched to a nexus 6 and stopped further development. Pac Rom worked extremely well for me, the only issue I ran into was Documents force closing. I switched to the CM12 (11/24) by Phantomphreak53 today. Hopefully it holds up as well as Pac. Phantomphreak53 has been doing an excellent job with updates almost everyday. I'll check in again after spending some more time with this rom. Thanks for the input everybody!
I tried CM12 11/19 and 11/22, but ended up going back to a 4.4.4 rom because of battery life issues (namely NFC service using up my battery), video issues (opening a video in snapchat caused the phone to crash), and some other various instabilities. Is the video issue fixed in 11/24?

It looks like they are working on the video issue, or they changed something because now I don't get a force close but the video freezes and you have to reboot.
As for battery, I would try clean flashing a new ROM, maybe even the 11/25, because I have no misc or NFC battery issues. NFC did show up on the 11/23 rom, but it was very low and I got about the same battery life as I got from CM-11 and stock. Let's see if 11/25 fixes it for good.
EDIT: Scratch that. Taking a video still causes the camera apps to crash. Nothing has changed there.

I'd much rather have the app crash than have to reboot. I guess i'll have to check out 11/25.

I must have done something to cause the reboot. Every time I have tried since it just crashes. I haven't had any reboot issues at all on any of the roms, and I am currently on 11/25. I apologize if my post was confusing.

Things get a bit funky with these roms sometimes. The other day I lost all audio playback on my phone for absolutely no reason. I kept rebooting, but still no sound. I suggest you get everything working as best as you can and make a recovery from it. That way if things get wacky you can just restore and have everything back to how it was.

That's probably a good idea. I have seen some inconsistencies between devices as well. Some people have weird battery drain while others don't, some have problems with AUX and others don't etc. I wonder how much is the ROM, how much was how it was flashed and how much was related to different apps and settings. So far I have had a great experience though, so no complaints here.
I'm guessing none of these lollipop roms have wifi calling?

Go read any single one of the lollipop threads and that question will be answered for you. Literally, any single one of them.
Every other post asks that same question. Gets frustrating even going through the threads anymore. Every other post mentions the video not working too. It even states in the CM12 OP by phantom that the video doesn't work. It always helps to read the entire thread before even flashing the ROM. That way when you flash it and stuff doesn't work you really have no one to blame but yourself. If you use the video camera a lot, just don't flash the ROM. That way when you try and use the video camera and it crashes, you won't go straight back to the thread and complain or mention it doesn't work. The moderators are gonna start going through and clearing all the repeat posts. They shouldn't have to if you just do your research people. That is all.

Sent from my LG-D851 using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2
No rom not based on t-mobile stock will have wifi calling, it is baked in low level. However, if you have a Google voice number and you integrate it with hangouts you can make a call over data with hangouts, if you're on wifi then boom, wifi calling. Can't be done with your carrier number though.
I've tried all three. Was hesitant to try PhantonPhreak53's build but I finally did and haven't left. Updates have been consistent and this rom has been my daily for about a week now. Not really worried about the video recording. I take Photos on Snapchat majority of the time anyway so I can wait patiently for the video recording fix. I'm just glad to have a stable 5.0 lollipop build.
Looks great
Anyone using these roms with QI charging? Does it still work?
Knocked off my LG-D851
Finally flashed a 5.0 rom and have discovered that QI charging still works, though it feels like it takes longer to charge.

Anyone here still using CM11?

Just got a bit tired of little bugs in the CM13 based roms and thinking about switching back to CM11. The only concern is the lack of security updates after the maintainers abandoned the projects for newer android versions.
Did anyone here try downgrading? Or maybe never upgraded? Is it wise to do so?
Some of my issues with CM13 based roms which have put me off:
Insane lag when reciving calls
Adopting Storage doesn't work half the time
Front Camera crashes
Mobile Data issues
Lock Screen Wallpaper Issue
Music suspend bug
Battery drain Issue
LOL brother. I am still using CM 11 build 14/11/15 with Xcelerate kernel build 4/12/15.
I still used this OS as it gives me atleast 500+mb ram which I require a lot for gaming.
At battery 100%............(with airplane mode on)...wifi on After 3hrs of continuous wifi gaming my battery drops to around 20%.
So I guess battery life is good.......though i haven't activated any sim cards(that would be a different story)
I don't have any voice(call) related problem though. Only bug is HDR. Once a picture is clicked with HDR on, you have to exit camera to click again in HDR mode
I actually need a CM 13 rom which provide such performance.(I was thinking about Slim rom 0.4 by Aniket Lamba)
So if anyone can suggest me better rom then please let me know. For me stability & usability matters more than recent builds.
I always will appreciate any information whether good or bad
I used to like KK as it was last in the line of the Holo interface and it was the only 4.x available for our phone, so I used it for fairly long and didn't switch to LP until MM came around. Along with Xcelerate it was really good: decent battery life, smooth experience and fast charging. But now that I've grown to like the Material interface as well, I've been using MM more often these few months, especially Slim6, which I feel gives the same feel I used to get on KK: stability and smoothness.
KK is still one of my more favourite ROMs, but given that KK is mostly dead by now and there are more developments and features in LP and MM, I think I'll just stick to Slim6.

1) I don't get this
2) I don't use Adoptive Storage, heard it screws with WiFi
3) I don't get this (it has been fixed recently)
4) Depends on ROM
5) GravityBox (for AOSP MM), or this guide (which also works on CM13)
6) Disable MPDecision. Strangely when I downgraded to CM11 I was still getting the bug.
7) Depends on ROM
The issues I had with CM11 were generally the use of Apollo and the HDR issue as stated in the post before mine. And the music bug after downgrading. Apart from those I was happy with it, and I wouldn't mind a single bit to change back to it. I just don't understand the hate regarding KK, especially in the MIUI 8 thread...

Hate towards KK is only because most of the apps are working great in >LP than in KK. If MIUI with LP is given then it can be easily a great choice for armani. MIUI ram issues have sorted out but only thing is standby time(wifi on) is low.

The music bug persisting after the downgrade is what's keeping me back. I, too, don't use Adoptive storage for all the bugs it brings - even on AOSP. But this means I'm running out of space by the end of the month because of necessary evils like WhatsCrap.
The gravitybox mod is good to know, although I don't use xposed, but really is simply a hassle to effectively change your wallpaper - especially when I'm changing them every other week.
I've recently tried disabling MPDecision - the music seems to be playing fine but I can't help but notice sightly degraded performance all around.

Adoptive Storage is a hassle to set up: you need to format your SD card (which meant I had to shift everything out before converting it), and TWRP has no way to read such encrypted storage, so I didn't use it after the first time I tried it. Also you could do with regular housekeeping of your phone's storage; usually I keep WhatsApp images for a year before deleting them (after keeping the important ones and archiving the rest).

Xposed is very helpful, but if you don't want to use it then I won't force you.
Generally in those CM12/13 ROMs if I wanted to switch between lockscreen wallpapers I would leave a couple of those wallpapers in the /data/system/users/0 folder, just renamed to let me know which file is which wallpaper. Whenever I wanted to change them I just renamed them to the proper filename.

You don't have to leave MPDecision off the whole time: just disable it when listening to music, and re-enable it afterward.
Thank you everyone for your valuable comments:good:. It seems I can finally move on to CM 13:fingers-crossed:.(mostly slim6 version)
Note: I don't have music stop bug in CM11 though( may be related to firmware version or kernel. don't know why different people have different bugs:silly

What I think is that the KK firmware/modem we all flashed for CM13 builds has something to do with the music suspend bug. This is probably the reason why downgrading back to CM11/12.1 doesn't seem to fix this issue.
Anyway, seems like I'll just stick with CM13 for now.

Well not really, as the same v7.0.5.0 is used for CM11, 12 and early 13 builds. It's most likely a kernel issue, given that disabling MPDecision fixes it somewhat.
