there is one but you need unlocked bootloader or s-off device
here it is
* download the latest twrp 3.1.1-0
* grab any modded firmware package
* delete all files inside the zip except "android-info.txt" edit that text to match your device info
* rename the twrp img to "recovery" then put it with "android-info.txt" and zip it
* put it in your sd card root formatted as fat32 then reboot to bootloader (hboot) and confirm the flash process
* reboot to recovery after the flashing complete then do a full backup and flash supersu.zip
if you need help, more details needed about your device so we can provide a proper files ( final zip )

I need a PC to get my boot loader unlocked do yea? I tried SunShine but OMFG a hack for a phone n they want u to pay. I might have donated after the fact but damm asking for d money r no cookie is a joke to our lil world ere lol

Hi,
My question is the same, how to root HTC ONE M8,
However, I installed a Custom WOLLA.SENSE7.MM.V3 using this link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/progress-fuu-m8-t2813792/
What is the best/safest method to root now.
Thank you

If you are talking about my response/quote directed to K4R33M; then I purposely did not link the thread. It's not applicable to your original question, and won't help you.
If you want to see it anyway, simply click his user name K4R33M on his post, select "View Forum Posts" and you will easily find the other posts he made (where his question was answered).
But his situation is not the same as yours (not even close) - despite his claim as it is the same (one of the reasons I tell people never to say they have the same problem/question, as it is virtually never true). He already has s-off and a custom ROM installed, but had relocked bootloader. Root wasn't even his problem, he was just trying to get xposed to install.

[HBOOT] HBOOT update for EU users who's having problem with RUU

Well as you can see I updated my wildfire S 2 or 3 days ago with OTA, so now when ever I try to flash the RUU from htcdev.com it fails be because "I Have a newer ROM version [ERROR 191]"
so I extracted the Zip file from the RUU and flashed from SDcard and it worked !
WARNING THIS IS ONLY FOR EU UNLOCKED FOLLOW THIS GUIDE AT YOUR OWEN RESPONSIBILITY
1- Moderator Edit link removed Multiupload is not supported as a file host site on XDA
2-Copy it to your Sdcard
3-Shutdown the phone
4-Start into Bootloader (Volume down + power)
5-Wait for it to Load the Zip file
6-chose yes (volume up)
And your done
now reboot and Delete the Zip file from Sdcard
I have an EU WFS, but getting the 171 error, will this help?
Two questions for you

1. Do you mean that you upgraded to 2.3.5 a couple days ago and that's why it won't flash the RUU? I was assuming I got ERROR 191 because I hadn't upgraded to 2.3.5 yet.
2. Were you getting the exact same message with the error code?
ERROR [191] ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED
Your ROM Version is not currently supported, but there will be an update soon that will be supported. You will receive a notification to update your phone to the latest ROM code.
After you have updated, please run the RUU again to upgrade your HBOOT to unlock your phone. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Incidentally, the part number for my phone is the same as the generic EU phone: PG76100 so your method of installing the ROM should work the same.
Update:
I got through the HBOOT update using the tip posted in this thread. It worked like a charm, so apparently my 2.3.3 Asia ROM wasn't the problem.
So I want to say thanks for the trick also! Tomorrow I'll finish the unlock process tomorrow as it's already after 10:30 PM here.
So unlocked in this case means that only will work with a phone which is S-OFF?

No. It's for S-ON and does not provide S-OFF. Just unlocks HBOOT so you can flash custom recovery, root and flash new rom.

If you look carefully, when choosing WFS, it has a * on the side saying that you have to update your HBOOT.
Anyway...it is not working for me. I put the file on my memory card and boot into the bootloader. it seems to load but I just don't get an option to update.
Thanks a lot! It says HBOOT 1.08.0099 with a LOCKED (OOW) above it.
Thanks a lot!
EDIT: LOVE YA MATE! IT WORKED! I NOW HAVE AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER! DDDD
tried this on mine and it says "Can not rollback HBOOT" then it bypasses the hboot update. It updates the radio just fine though.

I already clicked thanks but I want to SAY thanks anyway.
I had my phone with the latest European RUU 2.3.5 but as stated on the HTCDEV.com site I needed the HBOOT update.
I tried to update with the RUU download from HTCDEV.com but I had a crazy error, not like any seen around here.
It wasn't 171 or 191, it just seemed trash.
I'm almost certain that the RUU's that HTC makes aren't prepared for Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 users.
Back then when I updated to 2.3.5 (by football) I had to unzip the RUU and replace some ADB files with newer ones.
With the file extracted and updated it worked. I even posted an updated version here on XDA for people that were having problems like me.
So now that my bootloader is unlocked I will proceed with the next steps.
Still have a long way to go.
Thanks again for your file. It worked like a charm.
thanks now get the missus phone unlocked thanks

Which I need to root my wildfire s s-off after new update to 2.14.401.1?

Hello,
A few days ago, I asked a question on this forum about how to root my Wildfire S after the update to 2.14.401.1 but with S-off. Some gave me a link to another thread where it worked for him. (A link to a thread on xda forum). On androidforums.com, someone sayed to me I could still use Zergrush to root my phone, but is this true? Before my phone got bricked, I had unlocked bootloader with s-on and rooted with HTC Supertool V3 (and there with option zergrush). But will this also work if your phone is s-off and after that new update or should I use this, what the guy on my question here gave me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1616326 . I hope this was understandable. If not, just ask me what you don't know.
Thanks in advance!

This is at least the 3rd thread you've opened to ask this question. Just root the phone already!
Like I already said in the other forum, there is no rom-specific way of rooting your phone. Since you are s-off any method will work including the HTC Supertool . Skip the video tut because it's not very complete. If you're not sure of what you are doing, find a good guide that is complete that you can follow.
Rooting doesn't brick phones. Noobs messing up their ROMs after rooting does. Make sure you install CWM Recovery after rooting and do a backup before messing with your ROM or installing a custom ROM to avoid another trip to the phone shop.

Ok. And do I have to install CWM Recovery via the app or must I put the image on my SD-card and flash it like that? (I hope flashing via the app will work and is the same).

I prefer flashing it from fastboot. I know a couple folks that have softbricked the phone flashing from the app. I think flashing from bootloader/fastboot removes some variables.

Error : No Connection.?

Hey guys! So my cousin bought this used Desire HD. Its running 2.2 Froyo.
So here is the list of the problems:
1. When downloading from Google Play it does not download the app but it can browse. It gives a "Error : No Connection" in the status bar.
2. It should update to 2.3.3 but it says im already updated.
3. Tried factory resetting 2 times. Same thing.
4. Also one weird thing. I live here in Pakistan, so YouTube is blocked here. But the phone does browse YouTube? (it cant open the video though). Some kind of ROM problem i guess so.
What should i do to resurrect this problem? Thank you! Its the International version. "HTC Desire HD A9191".
Also the Serial number is SH11JRX08759

You could try unlocking the bootloader, root, and install a 4.2.2 custom rom. This will void the warranty but it may be the only way to fix the problem.
Update : so i went into the bootloader. And its pretty strange. Its S-OFF but not rooted :/ that is a really strange issue. Also i have noted the signals to be a bit more weaker.. Can somebody guide me from here?

Power off the phone. When it is off, hold down the volume down button and press the power button. This should get you into the HBoot screen. At the top of the screen, it will either say "UNLOCKED" or "LOCKED". If it is unlocked that's great. If it's not unlocked, look at the HBoot line to make sure the HBoot version on your phone can be unlocked. If it can, just follow the guide posted in this forum to install a 4ext custom recovery to flash custom roms.

You need the ENG S-OFF in order to use any actual commands/flash anything. Also rooting won't fix the play store problem, you must change ROM.If I may recommend, SVHD for a sense rom, or CM10.1 for that clean look.

Ok I am going to Temporary Root my DHD by Z4Root
Keep in touch kind sir I will update u the details
Unlock your bootloader first via htc dev. just follow the intructions in htcdev
Note: You need to update your bootloader first
- if the ruu in htcdev runs and update your bootloader, then your good to go
- if not or error appears, then create a goldcard (Instruction can be found somewhere here)
copy the updated hboot zip file to the root of your card and flash the zip file in recovery
then go back to unlocking your bootloader via htcdev
once unlock use the easyaceroottool to root your phone
-this will automatically flash the clockword recovery then you can flash any custom rom that you want.:fingers-crossed:

In the old thread that was here many people rebooted straight away with no problems, they had S-OFF.
Example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19911066&postcount=755
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17336292&postcount=721
just make sure you have a custom ROM ready to be flashed, do not boot the stock again once you reboot to bootloader.Flash 4EXT recovery, you can find the recovery .img here
just DL a ROM of your choice and flash it afterwards.

Hey all
Ran into a bit of a problem. I followed another sites instructions on rooting the HTC10 which basically said : Unlock Bootloader > Flash TWRP > Install SuperSU > Reboot phone.
What it didn't include was backing up the System Image.
Now, the phone will not recognize my SIM card at all.
Does anyone have a system image backup I can use to get the SIM working again ?

Is there another Backup image I can use that would be compatible ?

You try formatting data? Obviously back everything up to external SD or computer beforehand.

That was a oversight on my behalf. Besides, never needed to do anything like that on the M8, so it didn't really cross my mind at the time.
Anyway, its been done. Any way to recovery it now ?
Maybe with a stock ROM ?

Thanks for this guide and your teams' fast support of the 10. It's really appreciated. I got S-Off without issue.
One note about the guide, reboot to recovery does not currently work. It will only reboot to download, bootloader or system and attempting to reboot to recovery will reboot to system instead. @Captain_Throwback indicated this is a known issue with the current build of TWRP.

You can't even boot now?
Jut an FYI on VZW 10, you need to check oem unlock in developer options to unlock bootloader BUT it's not there. I assume Verizon hid it.
@jcase many thanks for this man! Now I have an idea of what to do next week.
Will donate in the form of buying sunshine again for sure. :good:
thanks @jcase for the tutorial

After some tinkering around and with everyone's help on this site, I found a stock twrp backup which got the SIM working again.

Have you tried re-locking the bootloader and using HTC's RUU for your device? Screwed up my previous phones and restored them using RUU. It will delete ALL data including TWRP though
Anyone got help with command promts etc, step by step for terminal with a Mac? With regards to HTC Dev part?
Clearly i'm not that super on it, but follow guides pretty well and have been able to do the HTC M7 but forgotten all the terminal parts..

Enabling this would not enable unlocking the bootloader, even if you could reach it in the UI.
Verizon users need to just wait a bit for a pure SunShine solution
i have the U.S. version O.S. 1.21.617.3...i havent seen anyone with the same version post anything about being successfully able to root and S-off the device. which i am very anxious to do. has this been done yet??

I have that one. Not a problem. Just follow the guide. Make sure to use the uhl version of twrp not the wl version.

It's been tested out...by me...and external SD will not mount in twrp. So you won't be able to make a backup. Uhl works perfectly. Captain throwback even said in the thread that he didn't need to make the wl version. He thought the uhl version wouldn't even boot...but I confirmed that it would.

Depends if you are on a carrier, there is a T-Mobile variant that didn't get the update and if that's the case you need S-OFF to convert and update.
Let's start with some valuable information we need before doing anything.
Boot to download mode and write down EVERYTHING that is showing there. From there we can give the info you need.

As far as i can say now it doesn't get the Oreo update officially, only option is to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, flash SuperSU root and use sunshine to S-OFF the device so you can convert the firmware.

Yes, but thats my dilema. I cant unlock the bootloader because i cant register to Htcdev.com(always send me back to the first page with all the spaces in blank) and cant use Sunchine cause i dont have root and the temporary root failed by the application. So im stock in 7.0 right now and i dont know what to do..

Hi guys. Sorry to join the conversation here. Hi @Mr Hofs. Can you please help me too? My HTC 10 is still running on Nougat, unlocked with TWRP and custom rom installed and I've just decided to try out Oreo now.
Which step do you recommend? Flash the Nougat RUU then OTA to Oreo OR straight flash to RUU Oreo?
Whichever you recommend I'll do. Can you please also direct me to download link of the needed file and the steps.
Thank you very much. You're a big help on Leedroid ROM but don't want to post there as it is off topic.?
Attached is the details of my phone.

Hi,
I can help you too, flash the nougat ruu because if you want to flash the Oreo ruu you need to flash the firmware itself first otherwise it won't work.
Don't have the time right now to search for the correct ruu link but if you have the time just look for the ruu.zip that has your OS number (2.41.709). Rename it to 2PS6IMG.zip and place it on the SD card and boot to the download mode. It will detect the file and asks you flash it by pressing volume up.

You unlocked the BL, now you need to flash TWRP and then SuperSU / root.zip to gain root access on your rom and then install sunshine and run it.
Edit :
Flash this file just like a ruu in download mode :
Link removed, need your CID and MODELID, fastboot getvar all command gives you the output. If I have that i can make a flashable TWRP zip file, of flash TWRP.img via fastboot.
Install this file in TWRP recovery :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/i26f93hfg4xwgfk/Super_SU.zip?dl=0
After that reboot and run sunshine.

To flash another firmware (convert from T-Mobile to let's say wwe Europe oreo) you need sunshine. There is no other option.
The only thing you can do at this moment is flash a marshmallow custom rom but no oreo roms.
