So I bought a car usb charger that claimed it was rated at 1 amp. Using both my blackberry and HTC oem usb cables it will only show up as a USB charger (500ma).
This is not exactly enough to charge the phone while using 3g, gps, full screen brightness, etc. I'm looking for a good confirmed 1 amp hardwire (not using a usb cable) car charger and home charger. I used my sisters Samsung charger (rated at 700ma) and it charged it quicker than with the OEM htc charger.
And I would like to try and get ones that are confirmed to show up as fully charging the phone. I would appreciate some insight

I went through a few different car chargers, so I can help you out here. I bought the Belkin car charger recommended here in another thread, low profile and rated at 1A, but my phone only recognized it as USB and charging was fairly slow, extended road trips using video recording and navigation while plugged in would drain my battery over time.
I used my friend's palm pre home charger and it worked very well, so I went on to Amazon and bought the "palm vehicle charger". The one I got in the mail (from Park Deals) was DOA, wouldn't turn on at all (I emailed Park Deals and they sent me a new replacement free of charge, didn't even have me ship back the defective one). I called the local radio shacks and found one in stock at $9.99 (radio shack isn't carrying palm anymore, so the accessories are on closeout but hard to find in stock). Works like a charm, the phone recognizes as AC charging, the phone still charges while running navi or recording video.
My friend got a cheapo car kit on ebay, came with rubberized case, mount that fits the evo with the same case on, and a cheap unlabeled car charger with a bungie type cord. I tried this on my phone, my evo recognizes it as AC also, so I assume it would charge well if it's rated at 1A. I've seen several other cheapo car chargers rated at 1A as well.
Another thread here on XDA says that if you modify your charger/cable by altering the middle data pins you can get the phone to believe the usb port is plugged into the wall and draw full current from the charger. I tried covering the two middle pins with a piece of paper and plugging it in, but this didn't work for me. The other methods involved shorting the two data pins together, I didn't really want to waste a cable or mess up a charger and potentially my phone so I just bought a different charger. Another thread mentioned buying a specific rocketfish usb cable had a similar effect.

That was me on both accounts. Love my rocket fish cable. Bought the 12v/usb converter for the car and whether or not i use the pc or car to charge, it shows as ac charger on the phone. I use this cable on all my pc's as well as the usb outlet in my vehicle.
This is the charger that I bought from amazon. It shows up as charging from AC (instead of USB) charging. It's available for Amazon Prime for under $6:

How fast does it charge?
One the 2.1 amp port, the Evo only charges at 1 amp. The Evo doesn't charge any faster with this charger than any other 1 amp charger.

Would be nice if they made a Y-cable to get 1amp from 2 USB ports in a PC. I mean, I know they MAKE cables like this but I read somewhere that HTC phones were designed to still only charge at 500mAh even with one of those.

It depends on what you're using as a charging source. When usb charging on my home pc or car, it's AC charging at 1 amp.. But if I'm charging with my Energizer external battery, it's only USB charging at 0.5 amp. This is using the same usb cable.

Would anyone happen to know what an iGo tip (A97) delivers? I am trying to rig up a custom solution that is hard-wired, but uses iGo tips so I don't have to use the cigarette lighter plug and I have the flexibility at the corner of my windshield to swap tips for different devices.
Right now, I have a 4-port USB hub installed under the dash that is 12v powered. I then use a proprietary iGo cable that uses a standard PC style USB connector on one end and then terminates into an iGo tip connector at the other end. That USB cable runs up to the corner of the windshield so I can swap tips at will.
If I use the iGo A97 tip on their cigarette lighter adapter, it seems to charge, but I am not sure at what rate. If I try to use the A97 tip on the USB hub, it charges for about 2 seconds, and then the light goes out. The Evo does not seem to like the custom arrangement, yet all my other micro usb devices do not seem to have any issues and charge just fine...

I can attest to the Moto 513 working fine - it has served me very well on my Evo and the Treo Pro before it.
Unfortunately it is a big ass charger though - wish there was a good micro option.
How do u determine how much power its actually charging at or if its not using the full 1amp rating?

Should pull 1A off the Igo
how do i determine if its recognizing a charger as ac versus usb? could this be rom specific? it seems to charge much faster with cyanogen than it did with damagecontrol

I just changed my nexus one to a galaxy note 2 and I noticed that the note seem to be much more picky about chargers and microUSB cables, even over USB.
Here is what I did :
1 - Nexus one charger (1A) : went to about 30% charge then it started doing charge/discharge cycles. Like if I plugged and unplugged the charger every second.
2 - Original charger / original cable : no problem, fast
3 - Original charger / Nexus one cable : no problem, fast
4 - Original charger / cheap long cable from eBay : charge level couldn't exceed 40%.
5 - USB port / Nexus one cable : no problem
6 - USB port / cheap long cable from eBay : phone said "charging" but didn't charge
7 - USB port / cheap short cable from eBay : phone said "charging" but didn't charge
8 - DIY charger (made by soldering a micro USB plug to a 2A/5V wall wart) : no problem, fast
Did any one of you experienced the same problem ? Never had any problem with the Nexus One.
Well, I think that the obvious conclusion should be "don't use cheap knockoff cables and use a correctly rated charger", but I still want to understand the problem. Are there differences between cables ? And if it is just a power rating, why is USB (slow) charging a problem ?

No problems here with an HTC Desire charger and cable, works well with full recharge.
The phone just cannot get enough current from a cheap cable. It only gets maybe about 300mA, which is barely enough to keep the device alive.
This means it's 'charging' while at the same time the battery juice decreases.
This also means the battery sometimes cannot get a full charge.
Nothing picky about this.
So what you have to do is: Use a 2amp charger with a good quality cable which can handle 2amp.
I also use HTC Desire charger + cable. The charger is rated at 1A but it can charge my N7105 at around 1.5A, though the charger is a bit warm. I use the htc charger all the time at home and no problem at all.
Some USB cables are inferior to others for charging, even though they transfer data with no speed loss. I have a cheap USB cable which can only charge my N7105 at ~450ma with the original samsung charger (2A output) and barely charge at all when plugged into a PC.
Where do you find a quality USB cable that's able to charge the note sufficiently

My Note I charging cartridge and chips got damaged i was told because the charger I was using from Best Buy's (2.1) extended end to it was too long. Actually the whole charging mechanism got screwed up... Whole device wouldnt get or hold a charge worth crap despite fixing the charging 'cartridge'...forget what its called.
So actually charging cables sure are NOT universal.
GNote2's extended end is moderate in length, not long etc. Im temptedto buy another one from Sammy and only use it.

I've have this issue with loads of cables, not all USB cables are equal cheaper and longer the cable the more interference and other crappyness you will get. Same reason you should ideally use the sammy cable rather than a cheap one while flashing roms. much less likely to fail.

I believe the longer the cable the more phase is introduced which can short the charging circuits, but I'm not an electrical engineer so don't take my word for that I just remember a grey beard telling me about it many years ago.

I'm in deep sh*t, I lost a part of my luggage, where all the chargers for my phones and my laptop and the data cable for my SGS2...
In order to save on buying both a charger and a data cable (as on SGS2, they are separate), I'd like to ask, whether I could buy an
SGS4 charger ? Would it not do any harm to my batter on the long haul ? I know that the SGS4 charger is made of a USB data cable,
which is then plugged just in a socket connector...

my understanding is that so long as the output voltage is the same (5.0V) and the max output current on the charger is rated 0.7A (or above), you should be in good shape. I even occasionally use my ipad usb charger + usb data cable to charge my s2.
Yea most USB chargers should be fine. Heck, I'm using a $7 generic one I got from a local store because mine always break and it works fine.
I agree with Bigtonyman, using most microUSB charger is fine. Only output voltage must be 5V
I am charging daily my SII with: original charger 700mA (home), Nokia charger 950mA (parents) and occasionaly with china car lighter charger 1000mA, and from computer USB port.

Looking for some help with the official Nexus Wireless Charger, which my husband uses (used) with his Nexus 5.
My husband was moving his bedside table and forgot to unplug the wireless charger from the wall first. He ended up bending the pins and they can't be fixed. The USB cord and the actual QI Portion of the charger itself are fine, they work when they're plugged into my wireless charger, it's just the wall outlet that needs to be replaced.
We've tried plugging it into the myriad of other wall adapters we have that have come with other devices, but they all result in that little red light coming on which indicates inadequate power.
I've just spent 20 minutes on the phone with Google. They used to sell just the charger accessory but it's no longer available for purchase and they don't have any more in stock, and the charger was purchased JUST over a year ago so the limited warranty is shot on it.
I'm assuming we are probably screwed and will have to just suck up the cost of buying another, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of any wall outlet adapters that would work as a replacement.

I used it with mine and it worked fine. The main thing on the Nexus Charger is it wants 2A of current. I'd say about 80% of those you'll run across will usually output 700mA-1A far less than needed. That one above will be good and if the same accident happens again they're not that expensive to replace.
I bought Blitzwolf 3A USB-C cable which I am using in my car with Android Auto & my HTC 10.

The cable should be fine, but it will be trickle charge. Only the dash chargers provide quick charging.
I got this one for $6 on Amazon and it's Benson approved. I also brought a few Otium adapters, which sell a pair for $7 and of course Benson approved. They are so small, so I just have them all over the place. One in a bag, one in the bedroom, one in the car, and one in the office. If anyone found a good Benson approved USB-C cables that sell in packs with at least one 6ft, please share.

These allowed you to trickle-charge via standard microUSB, correct? I have a 3T on the way, and I don't look forward to being chained to one charging cable.

Yes, they work fine. Description states it also has a 56kOhm resistor to prevent damage, but I don't really have any way of testing. I generally only use it as a backup at this point.

I had a Oneplus One and the only thing that broke on it was the charging cable, so being tied to one cable gives me pause.
Always go for high-quality well known and reviewed usb-c cable's. As dash charge uses 4 Amps+ you will definitely need a high gauge cable (thicker copper wires) to safely carry that amount of current. Tell tail signs of cheap cables are obviously slow charging but the worse case is a buildup of heat and short out of the cables. Braided also tend to have higher wear and fraying resistance. I went for one of these Anker PowerLine+ USB-C to USB

Yeah I just got one of these but Dash charging doesn't work. Might buy an extra from oneplus and reverse engineer and make my own.
I did discover the 1+3T slurps 1.5A (voltage drops to 4.6V)out of my desktop-PC USB2.0 socket when no data-connection is provided, and nicely reduces the current to 495 mA when connected to USB.
This with original dash-cable and Legion meter. I did not try for long though, as my mainboard is only rated for 1A.
From a good high current (IKEA) 3 x 2.1 A adapter it also takes 1.5A, with no voltage drop. So it looks to me that the phone is charging with 1.5A unless a dashcharger is directly connected, or reduced to 0.5 A when connected to USB.
When connected through my Legion meter, it will charge with 1.5A even if connected to a dash-charger.
From the cable-tables, you can select AWG 23 for 4.7A, AWG 27 for 1.7A and AWG 32 for 0.53A, so there is quite a difference

If you want to be able to quick charge you will be tied down to the stock cable. I have an abundance of USB-C cables that I used to use with my Nexus 5X (charged at 2.3A on average) and none of those cable come close to charging the OP3T at 4A. I usually get around 1.4A when using 3rd party cables.

Also seeing about 1.5a while using high quality cables and powerful charger...tested using Ampere. Just glad that this is my first android phone that I don't need to charge throughout the day.
Previous phones: mytouch4g, s2, note 3, note 4, note 5.... Never really put the 6p through its paces.
