Will a QC 3.0 charger damage my phone (even though it won't charge faster)? - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

I heard people saying that using a QC 3.0 charger with a ZUK will damage the phone and it won't charge any faster since it's not supported. There was even some reports of people saying their phone won't charge anymore after using a QC 3.0 charger for some time.
Is this true, will a QC 3.0 charger damage my ZUK?

One simple question: fast charging

Hi,
CM roms or GPE ROMs support fast charging ? beacuse with my Samsung Fast charger it has a very slow charge like complete in 2-3 hours.
Thanks !
Samsung charger won't work on this device for fast/quick charging. You can blame Samsung for that (or for manufacturers not all using the same fast charge standard). Samsung does not use the Qualcomm QuickCharge standard, inherent in the Snapdragon chipsets. Samsung decided to use their own proprietary fast charge technology, which only works on their devices. Probably at least part of the reason, is that Samsung does not always use Snapdragon processors in their devices.
With the M8, you need to use a charger that specifically supports Quick Charge 2.0, which will either say QuickCharge 2.0, and/or have the QC logo like this: http://www.androidcentral.com/sites/androidcentral.com/themes/android_visor/images/badges/quick-charge.png
Also, QC 3.0 compliant chargers will also work on this device, but at QC 2.0 speeds (not the faster QC 3.0 charge rates). Might be a consideration if you are going to buy a QC charger, and want some "future proofing" for a possible future QC 3.0 device.
I was reading that some higher amp rated chargers (not QC compliant) may charge slightly faster with QC devices, but you'll never achieve full QC charge rates. And from what you're seeing (and others have reported similar) is that the Sammy charger doesn't give you any faster charging then the "standard" (non-QC) charger that came with the M8.
Not sure (not a CM or GPE user myself), but I believe with the proper charger, QC 2.0 will work on the device, regardless of the ROM, as the feature is built into the chipset hardware itself. But you can probably check the ROM threads to verify that.

fast charging pickyness

I've had a nexus 5x before and own a pixel table. Both come with USB C port to charge. So i bought a itian qc3.0 charger at that time. (http://www.gearbest.com/chargers-cables/pp_389793.html)
Now i changed to the lg g6, but it refused to do the 'fast charging ' when i use that chargers qc3.0 port and even says 'slow charging' when connecting to the usb c output.
Is it the combination that's just flakey or did they put something specific in the original charger that comes with the lg g6?
I'm bit lost on the topic of chargers currently, anyone care to enlighten me on what should could would work?
Lg g6 is picky I think

I'm using the charger from my Nexus 6 and my G6 says that it's quick charging. Only QC 2.0 on that one though.

Works fine with my wife's charger from her Galaxy Note 4 as well. ? (Pretty sure that's a QC 2.0 charger as well.)
Does LG not provide a qc 3.0 charger with their own phone ??
Mine came with a MCS-H06UR charger.
Rated @ 9.0V 1.8A / 5.0V 1.8A
After a quick Google search I've had no luck ascertaining if this is QC 2.0 or QC 3.0.
From what I can tell, my phone charges as fast if not faster using the 5V/3A charger that came with my 6P.
From what I've read online, the LG G6 also supports USB-PD.

Off topic a bit. Thoughts on overnight wireless charging. I have a great charging cradle that I want to use but don't want phone to crack at night from hours of heat. Sony z2 and z4v had issues with that

Shouldn't really get hot once it's fully charged?
The charger that comes with it is a quick charge 3.0 charger and can completely charge your phone from zero in less than 2 hours easily. You have to use the cord that came with it though, or at least one that is compatible. If you look at the icons, you will see a different one than the usual charging icon. Pulling down the menu shows something about fast-charging when its active.
My experience comes from the Sprint version.

i use one from Tylt each night since im always on-call. havent had a problem once.
None of my QC 3.0 charger fast chagrge my G6. The QC 2.0 chargers do.
I've bought a Choetech wall usb charger, QuickCharge 3.0 with its usb type-c cable, and when I plug it on LG G6, it says that there's fast charging.
https://amzn.com/B019Q5WT6W
I do not believe the LG stock charger is qc qc 3.0 compatible because its fixed mat output at 9v is 1.8a
qc 3.0 defines the max amps at each voltage level from 5v to 9v to 12v
I ended up buying anker qc 3.0 chargers for my car and for ac wall outlet. also bought their nice braided usb c cable. every combination yields a fast charger notification in the drop down and the ampere app confirms this. also watching the real time output is impressive from all these chargers.
the benefit to using a certified qc 3.0 charger is that the phone will tell it exactly what amps to deliver based on charge & temp.
further, the G6 has a heat pipe to help cool the entire phone including the battery, to help prevent a galaxy note scenario.
wireless charging is slow Qi spec and is NOT fast like samsung. however, slow charging over wireless is great for overnight.
I use anker's qi charging puck and it works great except I have to remove my case. same with the samsung fast charger puck. my wife doesn't have to remove the case on her S7 to do regular or fast charging. LG's design is obviously inferior for the Qi to pickup and activate the coil.
Today Amazon delivered also this Anker dual usb car charger (QuickCharge 3.0):
http://amzn.com/B01K9MQ8WW
and when LG G6 is connected it shows that is in fast charging mode.
Those who bought QC 3.0 charger and those who trying different cables with LG G6 charger, Try Cable from Oneplus 3, I get an improved charging of 10-20 minutes less compared to stock LG cable
The issue might be the cable you're using. I've had no trouble fast charging using an old ASUS QC 2.0 charger, or a cheap car QC 3.0 charger. Even when using microUSB cables with USB-C adapter tips, but I'm using decent cables (mostly Monoprice and Anker).
I've confirmed that the charger that came with my G6 is QC3.0 (model MCS-H06UR, UK 3-pin). Using a USB power meter, the voltage will increase from 5V to 9V in small steps. If I use a QC 2.0 charger (stock charger from Note4/S7edge), it will jump from 5V to 9V immediately.

How much time does it take to charge fully? Did you record time ?

does it use qc 3.0 or a LENOVO proprietary standard? read here....

from gsmarena:
We initially thought that the Rapid charging tech used by Lenovo must be Quick Charge 3.0 since the P2 uses a Qualcomm chipset. However, our third-party QC3.0 charger didn't charge the P2 particularly fast, so the jury is still out on whether Lenovo is using a proprietary charging technology.
so... my car charger and my power bank, BOTH qc 3.0 are useless with this phone??
Our charger is a basic 12V 2A charger, giving a total of 24W Power. I don't see anything special in the charger. It's probably not the usual QC we had heard of. I have seen in some reviews though about this charging technology being different and very interesting.
A problem would be: what charger for the car???
i have the phone and i can confirm it only uses the QC feature with the included CHARGER
no way to use any qc 2/3.0 charger....mmhhh bad decision lenovo!

I don't see your point. This charger outperforms any other chargers in the market even turbo and dash chargers.
Why do you ppl always end up blaming others.
because i am against the proprietary charging algorithms..... dash charge is great? NOPE.... it forces you to use a special cable, a special charger, no 3rd part suppliers... high price of chargers, is it a good move for the customer?
same thing for this lenovo charging solution, ok the fastest one, but if i lose che official charger i am stucked with the NORMAL 5v 2a solution....
this is not a great thing imho, and all power banks i have qith 7/9/12v qc features are USELESS with the lenovo p2......
You're thinking only voltage my friend, check if your power bank can supply 2A at 12V. Probably no. Mostly all power banks bottlenecks at 1.5A.
So, there isn't a way to use another charger for fast charging?

my xiaomi power bank 2 20000mah does have qc3.0 and it's tested to arrive higher than 2A at 12v ... but even if other chargers are "only" capable to reach 12v at 1,5A ... it is still a missed quick charge because p2 uses proprietary charge coding
ok this is not THEp roblem, but just a con. like for dash charge people repeat at eveyone that oneplus is the fastes... but hey without an available dach charge power bank... that phone is s "joke"
I have another QC3.0 wall charger, when i plug to P2 it's out put at 2A only not fast charge.
But when i plug original charger from P2 to another phone fsst charge status is become.
???
How many times will you open new topic for the same problem ?

Any suggestions on Dash chargers for Z2plus ?

Hello Everyone,
I am looking for a dash charger for z2plus , I just used my friends OP5 dash charger for z2 plus it works like a champ. But OP5 dash charger is expensive like 2k, any other suggestions on chargers ??
Thanks in Advacne !
I would say.. don't go for anything except original charger.. it can fry some important diodes on your board and I am not kidding happened to me twice...
First time, battery was empty, and phone never woke up, I had just installed custom rom maybe because of that...
Second, exchanged phone, new phone, stock everything.. and it happened again..
Then I realized it was because of the 3t charger...
Read few posts, and found out if used some qc 3 chargers it can fry the diodes cx68 something..
Better read those post before investing money...
Nonsense! QC tech and Dash Charge tech are totally different. If used, any oneplus dash charger will charge your Z2+ like a normal charger and not any faster. Dash Charge Tech is Oneplus's Proprietary and won't work on any other company phones. And Regard to Best QC3 Chargers, Only and Only buy & use Qualcomm approved QC chargers. They are tested by Qualcomm and will almost never cause any issues. The List of approved chargers can be found on Qualcomm's website.

The Zuk Z2 plus cannot quick charge (No QC2/QC3), atleast yet. Some say the hardware isn't present in the device but i believe with the other group that say it's locked in kernel. In the Fans page, a dev has posted a mod to enable QC 9V charging on kernel level. If you or anyone has QC charger feel free to try it (UNDER YOUR OWN RISKS). At Stock Charging Capabilities, the device can charge with 5.25V 2.5A max. You don't need QC chargers for this, the lenovo charger that comes in box is more than enough.
zukfans.eu/ community/ threads/ request-quick-charge-support-qc-3-0.2526/
1.5A on screen en 2.5A off screen all by 5V are the best charge number the z2 plus can do, so it does charge good but it's doesn't benefit from a dash or quickcharger like one plus phones do.
Quickcharging is charging at higher voltages for the same or sometimes even more amps. and since A*V= Watts you put more and faster the power in your battery

Is Xiaomi Quick Charger 3.0 okay?

I am really upset with my htc 10. It's battery is not okay. Yes it does charging so fast, but It lose charge so fast too.
What is the main problem of it???
And I use a normal HTC 3 pin Charger. I don't have qualcomm 3.0. And its difficult to found in my country.
Can I use Xiaomi Charger 3.0 for my HTC???
Don't know about the Xiaomi charger, although in theory, any certified Quick Charge 3 charger should work (as long as you use a good cable). And the phone is backwards compatible with older charging technology.
I am using my old HTC charger from the ONE V. It is just a normal 5V 1.0 A charger (USB 2.0 spec) and it worked. (I am doing that since I don't need the quick charge, and I figure the slower charging with lower battery temp might prolong its life.) A Quick Charge 2 charger (Samsung), and a USB 3.0 fast charger (5V, 2.4 A) also worked in my case.
