upgraded 3 UK to Lenovo P2a42 Stock Nougat Update [S232] - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

I have just updated my 3 UK Lenovo P2 to the rest of the world ROM (Lenovo P2a42 Stock Nougat Update [S232]), very easy just stuck the ROM on SD card and rebooted into stock updater.
I only had it running for 5 minutes when I received an OTA update that has now taken it to S233, (P2a42_S233_170404_ROW).
I just thought this might be of interest to other 3 UK users, reassuring that OTA updates come through automatically.
i will now trial the phone and see if I can find any problems.

got it too, updating right now, will report

Can't say I notice anything different, excepts the Play Store is uncertified again :S

Lol S233 yeah!

Did the Update too.. also couldn't experience any difference yet.. maybe the battery will last a little longer now if so I'll report!

Could you give a few more details? like if you renamed the rom file, if so what to, how did you get into the stock updater?
Thanks

I got it through the updater of the phone(ota). I'm on ROW.
Fingerprint reader seems faster.

Hmmm...im on uk 3 but not received an update yet?

Generally comparing MM vs Nougat I also think that the fingerprint sensor is way faster on 7.0

Yes, renamed it to update.zip.
Put on sd card via computer
then press and hold volume up and down then power on to enter stock updater.
then select upgrade from sd card.

Has anyone noticed any issues when trying to dial a number after doing this update? I keep getting the have that the "DEVICE IS NOT REGISTERED OK NETWORK". Data etc work fine, just no calls. Read a similar thread, sometime suggested trying this:
At dialer press "*#*#4636#*#*" then phone information and press top right three dots. There is an option for area band. Choose your area.
I did that, but the only option I have is for USA.... I'm in the UK.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Rich

I do not have any problems dialling and making calls.
When I do the above I also get USA option only? Doesn't seem to prevent my calls though.

Thanks.
I succesfully updated P2a42_S033_161122_TMO with P2a42_S062_170117_ROW_TO_P2a42_S232_170320_ROW_WC00AFB1F4.zip (of course renamed to update.zip on SD card).
Then came OTA , and I'm on S233_ROW now.

[Q] Multiview firmware update problem

Hi guys.
I have just received my new Galaxy Note II. Live in Denmark, and on the box it says "approved for nordic operators".
I don't have the multiview function. Holding the back arrow doesn't activate anything, and there is no menu option I haven't turned on, as far as I see.
I heard this was a problem with European models, but I also read that Samsung had issued an update to fix it.
According to the phone, I have the newest software version.
I tried to upgrade firmware via Kies. Updated Kies. Tried both on my PC and Mac. The only message I get is that my device does not support firmware update via Kies. Very annoying.
I made some search on the net, I even tried Kies mini, but without effect.
Does anyone have an idea about what I should try?
I post a screenshot of my system information.
Thanks a lot. Take care.
Agoston
Not exactly sure how to help you but I'm sure it's probably that the update isn't available in your region. I could be wrong but the only way I know of at this point in time to fix this is to root and manually download and apply the update.
The update has been available in Spain just today. They are releasing it in different countries at different times, maybe to avoid problems with their servers.
Just wait a couple of days more.

I was thinking about:
1. downloading the update from here:
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N7100
2. and following these directions:
http://www.todroid.com/update-samsu...elly-bean-firmware-xxalj1-multi-view-feature/
Do you think this can hurt/brick the phone or cause problems?
Thanks,
Agoston

I had the same problem, just flashed a uk rom.
I contacted Samsung. They told me that the update would arrive in about 2-3 weeks.

Samsung Note 4 Update to 5.1.1 or 6.0

I am seeing that different carrier in US have started to send out updates for Note 4(5.1.1). But at the same time I don`t see AT&T posting any news or update about the software update for Note 4. Are we getting 5.1.1 or just wait for 6.0?

update failed for me a second time...
We won't see 6 for 6 months or so. AT&T will make sure of that.
Can anyone upload there OTA update for us that don't have wifi?
I have the update ready, but no WiFI and Kies 3 will not show a update is available for my phone even tho my phone shows it. Is there a way to trick Kies? I am connected via my HotSpot to my desktop and tablet and still can't get Kies to see a update for my N910A.

I tried deleting the caches, but no dice (and had about 7GB free then). But I did have a corrupted Contact db that was taking up 1.5gb. When I deleted it, the update worked. And after optimizing and rebooting, the address book repopulated from Google properly.

Android 7 for P2 bought from Three-UK

Anyone know when this will be released? There are reports on the Lenovo forums that phones in the UK going back for repairs have come back with Android 7 on them. So when is & likely to be rolled out to the rest of the phones in the UK?
Why not just install it yourself?
I bought mine from Three UK and now running official latest Nougat and have had all the OTA updates.

It's quite simple but you need an sdcard to update manually.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p2/how-to/lenovo-p2-owners-click-t3668029
In this link go to the "Official Stock Updates" section for the guide.
Download this to SD card. Rename to update.zip.
http://phonedl.ota.lenovomm.com/dls/v6/P2a42_S062_170117_ROW_TO_P2a42_S232_170320_ROW_WC00AFB1F4.zip
Boot to recovery (turn off phone then hold vol+ and power button and select recovery).
Choose to install the update.zip.
It will then likely prompt for an OTA at some point.
Thanks razr96 and philje123,
Instructions seem quite easy! But of the two methods given, Which is better/Easier.
Also the filename suggests fromROW...toROW version. I thought we had a Three version in the UK. It wont get bricked will it?

They're the same method. And there's no Three version, I used the same zips on my Three P2 and it worked fine.
I only posted another link as I wasn't sure if the files on the first one were compatible with the stock recovery.
I bought a Three UK "branded" phone. I say "branded" as it was pretty stock but had a couple of Three apps pre-installed.
I installed this Nougat version literally 10 minutes after walking out of the shop and everything is perfectly fine. Had a few OTA updates since it first came out and now on the latest s251 update.
Thanks

Android10/EMUI10 Update

Since update version is available on FF, does any one know the new FF DNS + HiSuite method that works for Android 10 update? Since the old one doesn't work??
Nope
Hello,
I tried for a whole afternoon last week-end. Nothing worked. The further i could go was to get the phone to recognize it has an update to do vie e-recovery (over wifi / DNS changed). But from there, the phone tries to gather the information from the server and fails to do so.
In Hisuite, i was able to make it so it recognize it has to do an update, but as soon as it tries, it fails to update.
I guess we'll have to wait until end-ish of may

My phone was purchased previously used. With just one month of use. The previous owner gave it to me with Android 9, and going directly to the system updater, I could not find any possible upgrade.
It is my fourth Huawei phone, and the same thing has happened to me previously, it was not until I entered the HiCare app, that the corresponding update did not arrive.
Obviously, although I don't know if this is mandatory, I always did it with my SIM card inserted and logging into my Huawei Cloud account.
Automatically I did that, and minutes later from the system update, I saw the upgrade to Android 10 drop. I have had it for 4 months, and there are already 5 updates that I have received.
Yesterday was the last, with the April security patch.

L29 C636 here.. Received the emui 10 upgrade automatically on my device. Maybe it helps if you try searching with a VPN (e.g. Tunnelbear), and then try a couple of countries. Maybe Hong Kong or Singapore (that is if you don't live in those countries already). I remember on my previous phone (OP3), it would sometimes do the trick of detecting updates. At least earlier than would have been the case without VPN. Oh, and once detected, you can disconnect VPN first and then download the update (or else it will be painfully slow, and also you will exceed the 'free monthly download limit' (500MB with Tunnelbear if it remember correctly)). Never used HiCare (Don't even know what that is. Not even sure if I have it on my phone at all).

Used this guide and it worked.
Be sure you have 636. I messed up at first, but all ended well.

Oh, and once detected, you can disconnect VPN first and then download the update (or else it will be painfully slow, and also you will exceed the 'free monthly download limit' (500MB with Tunnelbear if it remember correctly).

Hey Remo,
Appreciate that info. I contacted huawei in singapore. They requested phone info like, build number, sim serial #, etc. In the email they suggest I use a singapore sim card. Below is their email.
"However, in order to receive the latest update, your device must be within the region of Singapore and you must insert a Singaporean SIM card into the device. Please take note that all EMUI updates from Huawei are regional based updates. As such, if you are currently not in Singapore, you may face difficulty in receiving the update. Please do provide us the following information for us to check on this matter further for you and advise you accordingly:"
Build number: (Settings > System > About Phone > Build number)
SIM card inserted in the device:
I used tunnelbear and changed ip to singapore. It doesnt work. I'll use a sim card from singapore as suggested. But its expensive on ebay and amazon. Do you know where I can get one cheap?
Btw, is the sim card info huawei requests the same as the sim serial number?
My current tmobile prepaid sim card has been activated years ago. But cuz of coronavirus I haven't paid my bill. Will this hurt my chances of getting update on it?
Is this prepaid sim card good enough? It says Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand....

Sorry man, I don't know about that sim card stuff. I live in the Netherlands. I got mine from Wonda, it was factory sealed. I popped in a Dutch sim card (T-Mobile) and that's it. I think mine is from Hong Kong. Maybe it's different for Huawei devices from certain other regions? I dunno.
What your story did remind me of though is the Region Lock thing which Samsung applies: for certain regions, there will be a sticker on the box saying that you first need to put in a local sim and place a call for an x number of minutes to unlock the phone for use with any other sim card in any other country.. But that also/only(?) applies to making phone calls if I'm not mistaken. And I assume you CAN make phone calls on your device, right? So your problem doesn't seem to be related to this. But then again: Huawei's methods could be different from Samsung's, I don't know. Sorry man, that's all I got for now.

At last, tried 636 from the thread i linked, and it worked. Checked, the phone is 636.

Hi ptr21,
Ok I dont mean to press the issue. But just to be clear, you had updated your phone to 9.1 using the dload method. Then afterwards you receive an OTA update 10.0.0.193 without sim card or dload method.. Is this right? If so, how long after the 9.1 did you receive the 10 update by OTA?

I used dload method from this thread :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-x/how-to/firmware-emui-9-1-l29-al00-dload-method-t3960425
Installed Emui 10 10.0.0.180 (636).
Emui 10.0.0.193 update recieved at the same day by OTA.
My sim card is Estonian, there was no need to change anything.

Wow.. so you were able to receive a security update OTA after you installed 10 through the dload method. Very good.
I had ordered an Adapter Cable Type C to USB A from ebay. Once I receive it I will use it for the dload method. I cant wait! Thanks dude.

Hi ptr21.. I just got 2 questions on the dload method....
1) I currently have 9.0. I downloaded the 9.1 update. I unzipped it to my desktop and the folder is Evr-L29 9.1.0.310(C636E3R2P1). Do I copy this folder to my usb flash drive or the folder that says 'dload' found in one of the subfolders?
2) Do I need to reformat my usb flash drive? Do I need to reformat it to fat?
