Some bugs on reviewing Xposed framework module and forum homepage load issue - About xda-developers.com

Check attached screenshot for options visible on Module reviewing.
I was trying to review Gravity Toolbox MM
There is a 'Major issue loading the forum homepage, accidentally if its clicked.
It loads nearly 10+ MB of data (which almost kills the entire browser and takes too much memory specially when browsing on PC).
Suggestion - Remove the description from forum homepage, keep the same on forum display pages only.. will save lot of load time.
Thanks.

[Q] Time Saving App's

So im new to the whole Phone scene, This is my first smartphone.. I know shocking. And of course being a Customizer and moder in everything I dabble in I rooted my Evo and am now scouring the net for useful apps.
So my question is..
What are your favorite/most used apps and how do they save you time?
So far heres my list.
Audio Galaxy - Can stream all my music from my computer. No storage needed.
Apps Organizer - Keeps folders looking sleek and easy to access. Also the most available icons by default.
Last Call Widget - Can just glance at my phone to see who called.
XDA App - Faster than the stock browser.
Android Central Widget - Android news at a glance.
Rom Manager - To obvious there.
Selective Silence - Good White/Black list for vibrate... still searching my options for this type of app. (any suggestions)
Thanks
Dropbox is definitely my favorite time saver. I NEVER have to plug my phone into my computer just to swipe a file! Saves me huge amounts of time Plus I download roms and hacks for other phones and store them on my desktop so when I run into my friends I can quickly download appropriate hacks and bluetooth them on over
If you want to sign up, and it's free, could you use this link? I get 250 MB more storage upon a successful referral (that's another thing I like there)
*NVM* Can't post links (I'm too new) *NVM*
PM me if you want the link to sign up please!
Barcode scanner is another time saver. I hardly use it to scan any actual barcodes at all, but it can read QR codes off webpages as well. So when I want to download an APK while I'm browsing on my desktop, I just bust out my phone and point it at the screen and it does all the hard work! There's 45 and a half apps that do the same function, but this one is my favorite as it has the most minimal UI.
Fast Reboot is definitely one of my most used apps. It's essentially a link that sits in your drawer (or wherever you place it) that does a software version of a reboot upon press. It's great for clearing tons of memory quickly, calming down your Android when it's bugging out with a memory leak, or if you're handing your phone over to someone and you don't want them to hit the back arrow and see that you were on Ebay looking for outfits for your girlfriends Tea-cup chihuahua And did I mention it's literally instantaneous?
Hope it helps!
Thanks ill definitely have to set up the drop box. Always having to SD to the computer is a hassle at times.
Thanks

AppFinder on Windows Phone 7

Check out my free app in the Marketplace: AppFinder
AppFinder is the fastest way to find apps by name bar none.
Start typing the name of an app or publisher, and the search results are shown instantly.
tap one of the results to go to the marketplace page for the app.
Check it out and let me know what you think
Been using it last couple days, its a big help! Thanks!!!
I'll check it out thanks!
Thank you - it's very fast like the marketplace search should be. Good for quick looking apps if you know the name.
Are there any improvements coming? Like the Top Downloads or anything else?
appfinder feedback
thanks for the feedback - I'm on it
Great app, thanks!
BTW I can't find HTC Hub...
I think you need an HTC device for that sorry buddy

Ok, v1.1 has been submitted to the app marketplace and is ready for testing - should show up in the marketplace as an update within a few days

does this fix the crash where it closed and wouldn't reopen for me (even after soft reset)?
I had to uninstall, reinstall to get it working again.
I don't think so.
Although I think I know the cause. I will have to roll the fix into another update.
I think there is a small window where the downloaded data file can be corrupted if the writing to flash is interrupted. It will be simple to fix. For now, if you hit it, uninstall reinstall is the only option.
nice find. but did you know while in maketplace you can use the search button to find apps as well?

Of course I do
AppFinder is all about making apps discoverable in the fastest way possible.
I think if you're not in the top 20 apps in the marketplace under any one of the categories, then as a developer you're invisible. AppFinder seeks to make it easier to find apps via search, and with the update, via browsing as well.
Update is in the hopper, still waiting for testing to complete...

the annoying thing is that it searches music and video as well. i can't just search for apps alone
locales
Ok, so I just figured out I've only been indexing the en-US locale
I've updated the data to include
{ "en-US", "en-GB", "en-IE", "en-CA", "en-IN", "en-AU", "en-HK", "en-SG", "de-DE", "fr-FR", "fr-BE", "de-AT", "de-CH", "it-IT", "en-NZ", "es-ES", "es-MX" };
this change is effective immediately as it is a data update. Still waiting for the update to make it through the approval process. It seems that the holiday has slowed things down a bit
The update finally arrived
Nice new features and still very fast. But unfortunately, in my case, it wont load after the second app start (even at first start if I switch the section). I always have to deinstall/reinstall again once the app was started.
Maybe you can take a look? Feels like a caching problem or something like that. I'm using a Samsung Omnia 7 in germany - if that helps
Feature wishlist:
1. add a settings screen to edit:
a.) the number of list entries on one page (10, 20, 50) to keep the app fast enough
b.) the section on loading (and maybe you also can set this to no section just for fast look-up app search - I used the app for this before the update)
2. Maybe you can use the OS-typical "left-to-right-scrolling-loading-dots" instead of the big ones?
3. New logo if there is enough time

Private Joker,
Thanks for the feedback.
First - there was a bug that only impacted the German locale! I was trying to save bandwidth by truncating unnecessary leading zeros in the price and this caused an exception when the locale was set to German. I've updated the data to include the leading zeros and this fixes the problem for Germans. You will have to uninstall and reinstall though to get it to work. I am very sorry for the inconvenience, and I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your feedback even though the app was not working for you at all. I hope you will try again given that the data has been fixed.
Regarding your feedback -
I think you are right on the mark for #2 and #3
I don't understand 2b.
regarding 1a.
perf should not be impacted by the number of items that are shown -
Appfinder actually transfers the marketplace data to the device and indexes it locally. I do this because the network is really, really slow. Aside from having artists and albums mixed up with apps in the marketplace search results, I also was tired of waiting for results to load. Scrolling through the apps means waiting.
The delay at the beginning is caused by reading the marketplace data from flash and indexing it in RAM. Occasionally the loading dots will appear after launching (like the first time that you use it) because AppFinder has transfered a new data file and needs to parse it again. Instead of delaying every 10 or so apps in the list, there is one delay at the beginning (which is relatively small). Right now parsing the file takes about 4 seconds.
Perf could be greatly improve if I had access to memory mapped file APIs. Further compressing the data would help as well - The really slowest part is really reading from the flash. I can improve perf when a network update occurs by reading from the flash in the background before blocking - this would drop the update delay from ~4 seconds to ~1 second.
I could also not query as you're typing -- Waiting until the enter button has been pressed would reduce CPU load and any chunkiness - pressing search would just render the apps instantly.
Anyway, really appreciate your positive attitude and willingness to give feedback in light of what must be a frustrating experience. Please give it another try.
Thanks,
Eric

[bug] no-script or script-block results in page refreshes and double posts

browser: firefox 24
system: ginux (debian wheezy)
problem: when using the no-script or script-block addons it results in XDA pages refreshing repeatedly, and, double posts, etc. the only pages that are not affected are "thread views" and "new reply". xda has been allowed to run scripts, but not google, etc. suspect that xda's scripts are checking to see if their advertizers script's loaded, and, if not, refresh the page. would not mind allow ads for xda, but, it would mean allowing that ad-site globally or permanently, which i don't want. will try to find a setting that lets me allow them only for xda...
I'm using Chrome and getting the same thing. I also use Ad-Block. Not sure what is causing it but I haven't tried disabling the Ad-Block (which I won't disable just to view XDA).
It just seem to start a few days ago. I've posted this behavior else where and edited my post with a link here to help keep it all together. I'll disable Adblock when I reply to this and edit with my findings.
Edit:
Disabling AdBlock does NOT fix the problem for me on Chrome. When it turned off, I was still greeted with a double post error message.
We have seen reports of this here but I haven't been able to narrow it down. I suspect it has something to do with selective script blocking in some addons. Please use the 2013-1024 theme which disabled the sidebar and should clear up the reloading issue for you.
Closing this thread since this is already being discussed over there.

Barebone Android (stripped system/apk folder)

Edit : I mean system/app folder for the title.
I manage to strip down my Android to bare minimum, and so far I'm VERY happy with the result.
My device is Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8000) but I suppose it is applicable to other Samsung or even any other Android devices (probably custom ROM too) , since I did cross research to wide varieties of stripped devices (including S series, Sony and such).
So far the debloating guides I've encounter don't go this far. I'm left with 68 files within system/app folder.

As I remember, his spreadsheet was one of my resource to find the useless apps. I will attempt to compare both spreadsheets, and maybe add some more infos to mine.
Scribd link (also attached as PDF) :

I shared the google doc to public with editing permitted.
So if you're planning to debloat on your device or have complete infos on each apk, you can add it up there so might help anyone attempting to debloat their devices.
note :
Keep in mind, I use my tablet for laptop replacement, which means I don't use it for phone, sms and such (altho they're still working properly) and I disabled contact sync too, so I'm left with contact list stored within my SIM/phone.
I don't use GPS on my tablet too, so I removed GPS location through network (but it still working as well)
I have hardware keyboard at my disposal so in that table I removed SamsungIME.apk since I can use my hardware keyboard for initial setup and such.

Enjoy, and cheers. Hope this helps.

Been couple of days, on heavy load (watching videos, playing 3D games, youtube and such) my Note 10.1 last about 15+ hours with this minimal settings. Of course I also turned on battery saving mode and turning off haptic feedback. I don't need all those.
Might last a week + if I put it on standby, since the battery consumption seems very flat and the only app listed within "battery" are only LCD screen. Phone, sms, GPS, etc, working great. Booting up is a snap, as well as starting apps and such. No crashes or force closes. AT ALL.
Some settings won't open when I tap them, but no crashes too. Simply, this is the android device of my dream.
Still need help and more infos on the safely removed apks. Or if you have other device than samsung, and want to do this to yours, I could use a bit of cross reference on what's the bare minimum of APKs.
Edit : Now I want to test out www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-any-app-as-system-app-on-android and see if I did hard reset on it.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-any-app-as-system-app-on-android
Work marvelously. Need to set the permissions on the app.
For commercial apps, it will install to .asec in app-private. Use ES Explorer to convert it to ,apk. Uninstall, then install as usual. Find the apk at data/app.
Need to have the /lib files within the /system/lib in order all these to work.
Also, remember to set the permissions to both the apk and the lib files.

Forum acting very odd, fonts and spacing is really bad, ads overlay middle of screen

I'm having some really bad issues which are making the forums not usable. I haven't really changed anything so am not sure what the issue is.
1) The fonts and spacing is very odd, with sometimes larger or smaller font than expected and sometimes it's all scrunched in on one side.
2) Ads will often overlay on top of the forums, the sidebar on the right will sometimes be right in the middle of the forum page blocking my view, I don't see any way to move it.
3) Very jerky scrolling, sometimes scrolling jumps an entire page, other times it is just kind of ratchety, I turn my mouse wheel and it seems like every scroll takes a half second to catch up. My mouse is set to scroll 3 lines, but I've tried it with 1 line and it's the same. It's the same with smooth scrolling turned on or off.
4) The forums in general are very very slow, I mean unusable slow. A forum page may take upwards of 10 seconds to load, it seems like the ads are what's slowing it down because I can see the page stall, then the ad loads and everything works.
5) Most of the elements on the forum webpage seem to overlap each other, and many elements don't show up, or don't show a graphic but you can still mouse hover and see it's there.
I'm using Internet Explorer 11 on windows 10 on a surface pro 3 (i5/8gm RAM). Any help or suggestions for streamlining would be appreciated. Included a screen shot of the odd fonts and spacing. Zooming, or CTRL+ +/- doesn't help.

First let me say that I'm moving this thread to About xda-developers since that's where site issues and discussion belong.
About your issue specifically: I haven't seen anyone making this complaint, but I do have a suggestion. Internet Explorer is terrible at rendering websites. The worst bar none. Since you are on Windows 10, I'd switch to the Edge browser (even Microsoft wants you to). Or you could switch to Firefox (my personal favorite), Chrome, or any other derivative of those. Microsoft only included IE in Windows 10 for backward compatibility and so I'd quit using it. I even got my 70 year old father in law to give up his beloved Internet Explorer. If he can do it, you can too! :highfive:
Thanks, hopefully someone here can offer a solution. I'm kind of stuck on IE11 until Edge gets extensions, but the reality is that millions of people still use IE11 and it should be supported.
I stopped using IE because I was having a lot of the problems you describe, especially the sticking and locking up ones. I switched to Chrome and have not looked back. Edge is too plain and like you said, lacks extensions. You are not stuck on IE though. Other browsers, like Chrome, Firefox, Maxthon, Opera, etc use the same extensions IE does. Have you tried opening up the XDA page in another browser just to troubleshoot? If you want to stay on IE, you can try deleting your IE cache and junk files, reset it to default settings, or even try putting the XDA webpage in compatibility mode and see if that helps. Try opening up IE with all plug-ins disabled, again, just for troubleshooting . Another note about IE. Microsoft just dropped support for versions 10 and below, and I will bet version 11 will be the last of it.
I had this problem recently. It's good to see it wasn't just my usual bad luck!
I do most of my modding at work (sshh..) and our IT department has recently moved everybody over to IE from Chrome. It is noticeably worse at displaying this forum and is, to be honest, a horrible program to use. I even miss Navigator..
Good to see I'm not the only one suffering, though!
I also have a lot of trouble using IE11 on XDA.
For the past few months I have had all the problems listed in the original post.
Now it seems like the page layout problems has been fixed, but for now I can not load a single page on XDA without IE11 locking up.
I have had more problems loading pages on XDA the past few months, than I have had on all other websites combined for the past 10 years - nothing but trouble on XDA..
It must be possible to make this site compatible with IE11, right?
(FYI: I am not using IE11 to write this post - it would be impossible)

I'm getting that as well. It's very depressing...but it's good to know that it's not just me.
