USB-C Dock - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Accessories

Does Samsung have a USB-C Dock similar to the one attached, or any recommendations?

Dex. It will be launching with the phone for $150

You can pick up plenty of generic usb-c docks. Not sure if they will do the same thing, but I'm thinking there will be plenty of knockoffs

Is there a third party dock with gigabit ethernet, hdmi, a couple of usb and power pass through? Do all usb c docks work with s8 e.g. the ones for macbook or dell? Thanks

I've tested my Huawei MateBook MateDock with my S8+. It has power pass through that works. Both USB ports work. HDMI works. I've been unable to get the Ethernet port to work with the S8+ (probably needs a driver).

I guess my thing is, what can you do on the phone, that people will do, that a hard wired ethernet line is needed over wifi?

Maybe copying movies or even large files for work. Sure it will work on WiFi, but it won't be as fast.

I am curious if there is a 3rd party with all the features. thanks

The USB-C Dell Dock (WD15) has a working fast charge, ethernet connection, keyboard + mouse, display replication on monitor (miniDP).

Rapid charging dock for S8 on Amazon.... $24.99.....

Unless your laptop has a "display mode" where you can use your laptop's display with another computer(the only computer I know of that can to that is the iMac), that's not going to work.
Won't work thatisn't an input port.

HDMI to what?
http://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-H...PYQY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1312906574&sr=8-4
Hdmi to displayport
http://www.amazon.com/Plated-Female...JM/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1312906622&sr=8-12
Hdmi to DVI (this is what I use)
This isn't meant to imply that you can use this to plug your Atrix into a laptop. Laptop display ports of any sort simply aren't designed to be used as inputs but adapters to those types of ports do exist.

Can I use MHL to display video output on my computer?

I have an acer aspire 7560, it does have an hdmi port, but I don't want to have to buy an adapter for something that I don't know would even work for video input. I want to know: is there some way that I can use a normal, oem supplied, usb cable for this and simply connect it to the computer, figure out some stuff on the ubuntu end, and just use my laptop as an external display?

Short answer: no
Explanation: your HDMI port is solely for outbound connections only, to a TV or monitor. There are very few laptops that have the ability to receive an HDMI input.
As for doing it with USB there are third party apps like BBQDroid and MirrorOp that will let you, but its nearly impractical for the Nexus. Trust me, I've been trying for over a year to get even the right ROM/kernel combo to maintain a reasonable lagfree experience using them and its hopeless. We don't have the power. Sure, you can do it. But don't expect to do anything without huge performance drops.
I have a new tv that supports hdmi, but it also has usb 2.0 in, and I do not have a hdmi mhl adapter. Would a normal oem cable work for that?

Nope. USB port on your TV is for connecting media devices with music/videos/pictures and does not support the feature your looking for.
I have had success using the Mirror for CM11 application by koush with Airserver on my PC. Info to get it here. You must join the community and beta before it shows up in Play Store.
It works over WiFi network so long as your PC has AirServer, which is an Apple app supposed to be for idevices but the app picks it up anyway. The free version of Airserver is only 7 day trial. It will slow your phone down somewhat, but not anywhere near as bad as other apps. I've used it some, and it works well. But it has limited use with only a trial for Airserver. Such a bummer there, but give it a shot for the 7 days and support it and koush if you it
Good luck

I called Project Fi Support and the customer service rep did not know, but he was curious as well. When you receive your pixel xl please update us. Thanks!
USB Type-C guru Benson Leung has informed us that the Pixel phones don't work with the adapter because they lack VESA DisplayPort Alternate Mode that is on the Pixel C and Chromebook Pixel, which means that they aren't compatible with any adapters of this sort.

I heard you can't use USB to HDMI, not tried it as I don't have a cable, but would make sense since they likely want to sell a few more Chromecast.
That sucks. I wonder if V20 does. I need hdmi compatibility.
I'm curious if this will work with a displayport based or mhl based usb c- hdmi adapter
I read that the V20 is hdmi compatible so I am leaning toward the v20 at this point

The Pixel's do not support Miracast since they would have to pay royalties to include it. They do support Chromecast which you can get a dongle for $35. Which will allow screen mirroring on to a tv.

You won't like it but... LG V20
I've been investigating all routes to achieve this with my pixel, wish I'd gone for a S7 or LG V20 now as the lack of alternatives to Chromecast are none. The reason being I'm using this in my car with Appradio Unchained and needing an internet signal is a right pain. Not to mention the CC not being picked up randomly by it in cast devices. My nexus 5 was perfect for this as it supported slimport.
I have found something of an alternative however it doesn't quite work unfortunately. There are two modes to mirror, USB debugging and USB Tethering. With debugging I get audio but no video. With Tethering I get video but no audio. Which is making think about buying one of these audio embedders. It would mean having to connect the headphone jack as well but hey it would in theory work and at least the audio would quality would be excellent...

Which hdmi cables work?

I was wondering which usb c hdmi cables work with the s8? Ideally one that can charge the s8 and maybe an extra usb port for keyboard, flash drives etc.
Thanks heaps
I plugged in an external dock that I had for a Dell tablet. USB and Ethernet worked without issue. HDMI was recognized and I got an HDMI connected message on the phone but no output to the TV. I'll reply once I do some more testing. It would be nice if we could get some nice alternatives. I really want to get the dock but don't like the steep price tag.

Charger/USB-C - 3.5mm Adapter

Are there currently any adapters that allow charging while also using a 3.5mm jack?
The Google store has this, but nobody can give me any information on what "Coming Soon" means.
Any ideas?
Moshi has them available for purchase now, but only on their web site and not through google.
Hopefully that means google will have them soon, I really want one to leave in my car but i dont know if i can justify the 45$ price tag.

I was researching for such a solution. In the XDA U11 forum, I saw this and ordered it, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N0R1F1M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. You plug the provided 3.5mm adapter into it. It would be a bad portable solution, but might be good enough for a desk. I will report back on whether it works for the Pixel 2.

Yes please report back. As I understand those adapters need to have a DAC builtin, but if you are using oem dongle then perhaps it can communicate to phone through this adapter

I dont know if you looked at the product, but what he is doing is using the included USB-C to 3.5mm adapter that came with the phone, so that DAC would be there.
Spoke with manufacturer, they said it will work 100%
But I already gave away my P2, I decided to keep P1 for now until 8.1 release at least. I was excited about camera but I prefer P1 images they look better to my eyes

It works completely! I tested a bunch of scenarios and am very happy. Only drawbacks so far are the thing is about half the size of the phone and the pigtail is about four inches.
Here is what works:
Rapid charging with a USB-C charger
Playing back music through the supplied USB-C audio adapter with and without charging attached
USB cable to an iPad (at least it connected and was recognized but I could not access pictures; I had the same issue with the data transfer adapter so I don't think this hub is at fault)
USB cable to a Canon camera
USB memory card reader
It would not read my micro SD card in the hub's slot initially but I got it to work.
Notes:
I did not test using the headset adapter with a wired microphone. I don't know if that is supported and don't have one.
You don't have to change the USB settings to get it to work. It just worked automatically.
The charging port is the one closest to the pigtail. The other port doesn't work for that purpose. The white lettering on silver case is hard to read so it is easy to miss which port is required for charging.
I didn't test it with HDMI because I cannot get the phone to work with the HDMI cable I purchased even when directly connected.
Here is the link again: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N0R1F1M/
*edit: got the card reader to work.
Hopefully we'll have a portables position under $45!
In the meantime I bought a Bluetooth receiver so in the car I can charge and use BT for audio to the car.
You could also buy a Bluetooth receiver and plug your earhones in it.

So the 4 inch pigtail goes into the phone, the PD charging port is connected to your Pixel wall charger, and the 3.5 USB c adapter connects to the data only USB C port?
Did you try to connect a keyboard, mouse, or USB Ethernet adapter to the USB A side? I am curious if those device work on the Pixel 2.
Thanks for your info.

Correct; that is how I connected it. I tried an AnyKey security key that presents a USB keyboard interface and that worked as a keyboard. I don't have a mouse or ethernet adapter to try. I did also try a USB memory card adapter and that worked too.
I'm using this one, which is the same as the one above but cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FHLTNM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It will charge the phone rapidly, play audio through the headphone dongle, read a micro SD card, read USB keys through the USB A ports, all at the same time, not bad for $14.
Moshi speaks!
FYI, this is response I got from Moshi rep, regarding the charge/play adapter.
While we do not know when exactly it will be available in Google's store, the same product is already available in our own web store - https://www.moshi.com/usb-c-digital-audio-adapter-with-charging
We are aware of that some users have been experiencing issues with this adapter, and we are already working together with Google on a solution for this. With that said, it appears that this only affects certain Pixel devices, as a clear majority of users (including our own product team and Google) haven't had any issues when testing multiple adapters on the Pixel devices in our office.
Although our team does not have a solution for the reported issues at this time, they are currently working with different software updates to see if this may resolve the issue. We are therefore not working on any hardware upgrades at the moment.
Hope this information helps.

Same here. I would love to find anything that will let me listen to my music with my wired headphones and charge my pixel 2xl at the same time. Google created this situation for us when they removed the jack. You would think they would at least have one solution. So if you could send me a new link or post it here, that'd be great!
