I'm just wondering if it's safe to rollback the firmware on my Galaxy Tab S 10.5" to the previous one or if it causes some sort of conflict.
I want to do so because I've just installed the most recent one (T800ODD1ANK1 - India) and I can't root it using Cf-Autoroot posted here.

Nothing. I did it with Odin and it just reboots to the same old unrooted tablet. All is working fine as usual, but no root.
What botters me the most is that I had Xposed framework installed but now it has no functionality and all the modules I had installed don't work. I would install the previous firmware but I'm afraid of breaking something, with installing older software on top of newer one.
I was able to root the US version of that ROM (T800XXU1ANK1) using CF Auto Root from Chainfire:

As I predicted, since the changelist is different (your version has the same as the older one I had, with functioning root, but not with this one), no root.
Does anyone know if it is safe to install a previous version of the software? Like, for example, Cellular South ANK1 (with an older changelist).

I'm having the same issue as the original poster. It says I am rooted, but I'm not because root checker just keeps spinning and there isn't a SU# icon in my apps. I've done this with Odin about a million times before, for some reason on my new T800 (after I updated the software), it doesn't work.
Am I missing a step because I have the same version you have? Extract the file. Load the md5 file into AP. Hit Start. Wait for it to reboot. Right?

Im assuming you ran Super SU and updated the binaries or whatever it asks, or updated the app in playstore?
Ive done nothing different and root works fine.
I was thinking about another root alternative. I was thinking about downloading the supersu zip and save it to the device or sd card. Then flash twrp recovery with odin, then boot into recovery and flash the supersu zip to get root? Could that work as an alternative since it flashes root in the process?

If i am correct, There should be stock custom roms available that are prerooted so you can flash over. As for an ota update, that is faster than being rooted then flashing lollipop rom.
Anyway we have a lollipop rom already built. Its smooth and most things are working. Its really cool and id rather use this than waiting for samsung to get the latest update out. Do you have the 10.5 in or 8.4 inch?

I have the wifi 10.5 inch.
So, you are saying update OTA then root, unless I want to jump to Lollipop (which I do), which in that case it doesn't matter so I should just root and flash a lollipop rom?

Up to you If you want to jump to lollipop/CM12, just run flash Cfautoroot( with odin to root) then install twrp and flash the lollipop rom. There is a thread for cm12/lollipop in the development tab s section.
But wait! Rooting trips knox with voids your warranty. Same users has reported getting service from samsung for free of charge from defective units and some had to pay to get defective parts replaced by samsung. 50/50 chance. I took the risk and havent got a hardbrick or anything yet.

Thank you for the heads-up. I've rooted all 6 of my android phones that I've had, so I'm not too worried about voiding the watrranty. Judging by your reply it sounds like there are a lot of lemons out there for this device. Mine seems to be running okay, but I just can't take all the lag that I assume comes from TW and bloatware. My HTC One M8 with Lollipop seems faster and smoother than my Tab S at stock. Although after typing the last sentence, I put Nova on there and sped up all the animations and it is definitely light years faster than my One M8 now.
I think the answer to the original post is that the Su binary was installed, but the op didn't download then update Super su after rooting. You wont get full root until you do as there is no app to handle root requests.
for a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge (AT&T SM-N915A) Has anyone used ODIN to flash 4.4.4 from Lollipop (which I read doesn't trip knox) and then used Kingroot to get temporary root and then install Safestrap? I didn't really find any custom roms, but when booting from Safestrap, wouldn't root still be available even if you installed the stock Lollipop rom as the SS rom? Or would it be too difficult to remove the recovery if that's present in the stock LP rom so it doesn't mess with SS if you boot from it?

I did use ODIN to go back to KitKat and then used Kingoroot, but the safestrap part your talking about I have no clue. Was unaware of any safestrap for the Notre 4 or Edge.
Back on Lollipop unrooted though. Found the temp root annoying and with FF browser and AdBlock plugin I'm getting by

Sorry, no permanent root yet... But the 5.1.1 upgrade is available, just remember to clear the cache before attempting to upgrade.

So it is possible now to get temporary root access using kingroot on 5.1.1 but I am hoping someone get this information to chainfire so that chainfire can use it to come up with a permanent root using odin.

I am from Vietnam and i just 've bought the SM-N910A (said that from ATT) in Vietnam. I used RootChecker and Phone INFO to get to check my phone.
The result is my phone was ROOTED!!!. I restarted some times but the ROOT is still accessed.
I tried to use Root Explorer to copy/paste from/into system folder, it's ok like other rooted devices.
I'm following xda-note edge and see everyone's saying that NO way to permanent root ATT note egde.
I also dont know what method the seller used to root my edge, but i think it's permanently rooted.
I've NOT try to unlock bootloader neither install recovery. There seem to be no official method for ATT edge. I am afraid bricking my device.

When you moved data into /system did you remove it before rebooting, or did you leave it in /system and were still able to boot?
If you could enable USB Debugging and open a shell with ADB and type "ps", then post the output, that may be a place to start.
Recently, kingroot has been able to get root on my note, but after 5-10 minutes I get ANRs and the phone crashes, then I have to re flash with Odin to go back to stock. I have logcat logs up to where it crashes as well.
I'm on 5.1.1

5 minutes after I posted this AT&T tried pushing a security update. Probably to fix this.

Hi, i have a n915a too but the baseband ends in BOC8 and the last firmware is 5.0.1, if i use the stock firmware 5.1.1 from other baseband? it will brick the phone?.
is there a way to install different firmware from another model?, like change n915a to n915f or something like that

I did temp root with KingRoot too. I went and disable the bothering Carrier IQ which was taking all my zerolemon battery. And also I disable most most of the bloatware of at&t.
Let's hope Chainfire or someone co.e with the permanent one.

I rooted my at&t note edge using king root. Then I installed SuperSU and used the option to install binaries in "normal" mode. Then the phone rebooted and in the booting screen i got an icon with an unlocked lock that said "Custom" then the phone booted normally no problem.
I dont know if this information is useful but i thought it was important to share.

I have 5.1.1. After rooting the phone repeatly bacause after 30 seconds of being rooted the phone rebooted. I went into download mode (home + dwVol) the status showed that was official and that it was locked. I don't know if this information is relevant but sharing is important.
I got my G4 2 days ago and I really want to root it, but unfortunately I realised I have an H815P model and can't be bootloader unlocked, so I can't root it.
I looked around for ways to get past this little inconvenience and found there is a way to root without an unlocked bootloader. The problem now is, this method seems a little old and was originally created for Lollipop, but my phone shipped with Marshmallow already installed and on firmware version 20D.
So the question I want to ask is, will the method of extracting the system.img and injecting root and flashing that back, work with Marshmallow and my variant of the G4?
And if that is indeed possible and will work, will the root files from this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/root-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765) work with Marshmallow, or is it specific to Lollipop?
EDIT: Another link to a tutorial about extracting the system.img and injecting root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/tut-guide-step-step-guide-rooting-h818p-t3227798); will this tutorial and root files work with Marshmallow and my variant, or is it also Lollipop specific?

You cannot root on marshmallow.. I downgraded my device to Lollipop using KDZ files and then injected root by flashing the rootedsystem image
If you have a H815P device you can't unlock the Bootloader so the only way to root it -for now -is on Lollipop. To get root access on your device you have to do this:
1. Downgrade to 10c (Android 5.1) w/ LGUP (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lgup-install-kdz-mm-lp-t3249803)
2. Get root access on 10c (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/root-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765) (don't listen to the warning not to use on H815P .. it works)

This would mean then that I won't be able to upgrade to Marshmallow, or any other upgrades that comes after that?
U will be able to go back to stock. When u decide u don't want root anymore u can just flash the correct kdz for h815p and u back to stock

Also you dont have to flash H815 kdz u can just extract your current system img and inject root with a ubuntu vm

You can always upgrade via LGUP but if you want to have root access so you must be on LP
Thank you everyone for your help and advice. I've downgraded and rooted now and it worked, with a slight side-effect; the downgrade formatted my internal storage and I lost all my pictures and other data
I wish the guides were a little more clear about this, that downgrading would format your internal storage, as well. At least I'm rooted now.

Sooo, I want to root my LG G4 (H815). It's on 6.0 V20d-EUR-XX. My SN starts with 505 and I read that it will probably have a boot loop problem. Thats why I don't want to unlock the bootloader(avoid voiding warranty). Is there a method without unlocking it?

am the same as you but mine its 601.. i just updated it to MM.. seems like its impossible without twrp and mod kernel..

can you inject on MM?? it will void warranty if they found out root... to unroot it i think you must flash KDZ stock firmware while in bootloop it will flash it and root will be gone.... i think thats how it works not so sure.. i know that rooted system then flashing stock will remove root if refurbished is selected... also if you have bootloop people downgrade to lollipop and then flash modded TOT that disables big cores. so even with bootloop flashing stock will reset everything when refurbished its used... i think thats how it works.... i want to root MM to..

Thanks for the info about unrooting. That made me a little bit more secure about rooting my device
And by the way I don't want to inject on MM. I will downgrade to Android 5.1 and then I will inject root.
That way I will have root access, but I guess I will have to stay on 5.1 until there is a better way to root 6.0.

so you are not going to try and see if rooting will stick after update?
i like MM seems smoother. but battery sucks. and so doze.. what ere they thinking not activating doze while phone in movement..
U should nt root or unlock bootloader just make sure ur phone bootloops within ur warranty timeperiod...cuz im 100% sure it will mine did also after 1 year n one month usage...taiwan h815

I've been using this phone for 2 years now. I've been pretty good boy and never tried anything else than original updates. I was on 6.0 update for nearly a year and didn't know how to go back. Than i made some research now it's on 5.1 ver10d-tur-xx and everything seems fine.
As much as i know i can't open bootloader lock cause my phone is h815TR.
As much as i know there is a way to root this phone which is quite complicated and i'm a bit scared to do it so didn't try it yet.
Considering this situation. Is there any way to flash something custom to this phone? Or if i root it can i change kernel or rom of it? If there is no way i'll stop searching so, please help me

no way to flash custom roms yet though until steadfasterx gets working efidroid in fish

I read all of things there i was about to give it a tray and saw that at the bottom of page "double tab doesn't work" which is the most important thing in this phone for me
Have a look here .. https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-100-root-success-directives-root-t3180586 , it looks hard but just take your time read through it a time or two as it just work only drawback as you have a locked BL you won't be able to flash any kernels or roms ..
