[How-to] the ultimate G5 Plus guide | unlocking | install twrp | root | unroot | - Moto G5 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

\Hello fellow G5 Plus owners!
This thread is in its beginning stages but the ultimate goal is to create a compendium for newcomers and the rest of us of all the ROMS, Root methods, Unlocking, Etc.. I'll be asking the mods to make this a sticky.
Everything below is "USE AT YOUR OWN RISK". Not my problem but if you ask nicely folks might help.
Special thanks to:
LenAsh - Our friendly moderator
vache, Santhosh M & Shreps - for getting this party started!
Vincom - for doing it best

I wonder if we can convince @vanche to make a separate thread... I'm pretty sure development died on the other version.

How can we disable full encryption and get direct boot?
I saw with other phones can do this by flashing custom boot img. Is there a thread on that?

I just went through the thread and it looks like you are correct. That's why I've been waiting for official versions of everything before i even root. I know the lack of sdcard support is common in initial versions of twrp for a new device. Eventually a more experienced Dev picks it up and makes it official...

Does the sd card not work in just twrp(like for flashing and such) or does it not work in the system too?

Just TWRP. It works fine in the system.

Any way to unlock without using Moto website??

What if i install the firmware on a Moto G5 plus with prime exclusive?, i could brick it?, i want to remove the ads from lockscreen

Any information regarding relocking the bootloader, I tried the other day but faced the "still need a signed boot.img" this is after flashing the stock ROM

Please help!
Please i'm afraid to have bricked my moto g5 plus, i followed all the steps of the video you can find in this forum (i cannot post links sorry) but when it ry to wipe-> factory reset in twrp i got this errors:
"failed to mount '/data' (invalid argument)
unable to mount storage
it seems that the phone internal storage can't be read, even from my pc i can't access/copy files to the internal storage. So when i try to reboot the phone just bootloop saying "your device has been unlocked and cannot be trusted"

If anyone wants to take over this thread please let me know. I still haven't seen a good reason to even root this phone so I'm moving on from xda for a while.

Umm, it doesn't say anything about downloading. It clearly says "thread not complete" hence the lack of links or other info. I'm just as excited as everyone else to be flashing Roms on our new phone, a true test of patience

Well, moto live chat sayed that Ende if november oreo for g5 will be dropped. If u have bootloader unlicked, u cant update anyways, As it WILL hardbrick.
It's available on G5S Plus via Lineage OS n I'm assuming OTA Stock Update. Wonder if any of the Devs for G5 Lineage OS are in process of updating.
New to forums n XDA so not really sure how it works etc.

Are you sure that installing an OTA update with an unlocked bootloader will hard brick? It seems like the problem would be the custom recovery and not the unlocked bootloader.

p8tgames - thank you for the link. In fact, I have read many threads and I do not find clear or consistent answers. It seems to me that some of the problems are not necessarily related to the unlocked bootloader, but to a custom recovery or space issues. I thank you for trying to help out, but I am still not clear from your posts and those of others what the real source of trouble is.

Android P

Hi, I didn't find any information about android P for our Z2 Force here. We get 3 years security updates on Z series, right? And android P as last big major upgrade, hopefully. Has anybody latest news about P? If not yet, now we have a thread for infos about that

This device will be sure upgrade to Android P. It was launched with Android 8.0 OOB in India and at that time they were telling it will get Android P update (don't know when)
Also Moto Z was released with Android 6 , now running Android 8 (surprisingly i got update notification to July patch at the same time on both phones , retin ) so its obvious It will get Android P. But i don't think it would be first as moto/Lenovo is more busy with low/mid-range devices.
The thing im concerned with is Android Q (since it was launched with Android O here and moto gives 2 upgrades .)
Sent from my Moto Z2 Force using XDA Labs
P is now confirmed. Have it from a german source. Seems to come this year. But no 8.1 Z3 has Snapdragon 835, too. So we get the 9.0 Upgrade faster than the others
