TWRP / Root - Honor 8 Pro - Honor 8 Pro Questions & Answers

I tried the TWRP for the Honor V9 and it boots. But I looks like the Partition table is different to the 8 Pro. And nothing really works there, I got a loot of mounting errors and didn't finds a GitHub Projekt for it to fix.
If someone find a working TWRP or way to root. Let us know ?

Here are some Informations bout the filesystem:
Sadly it uses emmc chips instead of the newer ufs chips.
And here the information about the filesystem. Maybe someone could rebuild twrp to match correct partitions and mount points?

I will try to use the source of the Mate 9 to Port it for the 8 Pro.

That's a random clickbaiting site. There is no working TWRP for the Pro 8.

The Site mentioned by AlienwareAR is a fake site trying to pick peoples and getting clicks. Also viruses could be there. Therefore the site: hopemyworld is UNSAFE! I suggest to not use it.

I have no Time trying to build a TWRP for the Honor 8 Pro.
But here are the code from the Mate 9, that could work with only little changes.
In a few minutes i upload the V9 TWRP.

I have written an email to Huawei asking them to get a download link to stock firmware. With this firmware we should be able to pick the needed images and build.prop if we can extract them from the firmware. I am totally noobish in programming language and also in compiling but maybe I can figure it out how to do it if I get enough free time.

Here is the TWRP for the Chinese Honor V9.
I flashed it on my Honor 8 Pro (O2 Germany) and it boot up, but its not possible to mount the partitions.
And for now we have no stock recovery to flash it back to stock!
DONT FLASH THAT TWRP IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU DO!!! ITS NOT FULLY WORKING!!!!

Got a valid firmware package of the DUKE-L09. I will upload it tomorrow.
And after flashing that File my bootloader got locked again.

This sounds amazing. Maybe we can extract Partition sizes from the firmware and build TWRP from source with it.
Also I need to know from where you got firmware?
I got a answer from Huawei already but they link me back to hihonor.com with a standard message that I could download it there but I cannot locate the firmware so I replied to them.

Okay, so if under any circumstances i am able to compile the recovery for the Honor 8 pro i need to mention all sources to get it to official twrp branch. But that's future music. Until now it's my first big compiling try then..
Just asking you if you may could grant me access to mention you as source if all will go fine.

Hi Petra,
please write English here, so non German user understand what you are saying.
I'm uploading the EU Firmware for the Honor 8 Pro right now. I have no tutorial to flash the European firmware on the V9. You have only the option with trial and error.

Hi,
just some information update on my work in progress:
I extracted the firmware using huawei update extractor from xda member "worstenwood" ((Thanks!!)). But i am stuck there because then i need to unpack the "system.img" file. Tried that with ext4_unpacker with no luck because it is telling me "could not create secure stack". Either the file is too large and the old program ext4_unpacker can't handle it or i am missing something.
I am trying using/learning from:

Thanks to the creator/author above !!
I use the following systems:
Windows 7 Home Premium and my favour/main system: Linux Mint.
I do this all in my spare time (and only! in my spare time) and this could take really long to see something useful coming out. If someone should be faster than me then go for it! But if you really are faster than me in building a twrp recovery from scratch source code then please teach me. I would be very thankfully to learn from you!
Right now i am booting in linux and learning how to extract an android/linux system image with internal or added tools.
I will then report back any success in the real twrp building as fast as i am at that point.
Until now no further progress information provided from me until useful success to not overload this thread.
best regards

[Q] First time Android user, Nexus 7 rooting questions!

Hello everyone, I'll start off with a little introduction and I apologize in advance if this is the wrong section for my questions. First off my name is Chris, I've been a long time apple user. I've been with apple since the iPod Video. I've always jailbroken my devices and currently have a 5s and iPad 3. I'm very tech savy you could say so undergoing a process that maybe technical I'm not sure of the rooting process for androids, But i'm sure I'm more than capable of.
Anyways this will be my first android device ever, lets take a moment and thank my girlfriend for buying it, well will be buying it this weekend as a christmas gift. From what I've been reading the nexus 7 is an amazing tablet, and as my first android device I'm glad to hear all the positive reviews.
What exactly is the rooting process? Do I need anything extra beside the device? Just curious on that since I know its a different device all together but for both the xbox 360 and ps3 you need outside supplies to apply their very own rooting I guess we can call it.
On my jailbroken devices, what I mainly use it for is tweaks, themes and emulators.
What exactly does rooting provide for me? Like the positives or erm similarities to jailbreaking a iDevice?
Is it possible to root the current nexus and firmware? I know over at apple jailbreaking is prevented through firmware updates and currently not possible to jailbreak iOS 7.
Does android also do this?
I believe these are all my questions for now.
Little facts about me,
In my 3rd year of college, IT major/web developer.
Hacked/Jailbroken/Rooted? Devices
iPad 3
Xbox 360(flashed)
Nitendo Wii
3ds via supercard dstwo
psp back from the old school days with pandora battery
Also looking forward to being apart of the android community, and owning a nexus 7.

This more or less automates rooting your nexus 7.
If you root you can have (mainly):
Custom Kernels (a modification of Android's kernel) that let you make deep changes on the device, for example over or underclocking the processor and GPU.
Custom ROMs (a modification of the device's system image) let you change many things in the OS, but not as deep as a custom kernel (you can't overclock or undervolt the CPU or GPU by only changing the ROM, you need a custom kernel for that)
If you want something deeper look for it on Google
Sorry for my english, since I'm from Argentina
I would also recommend the wugfresh nexus root toolkit. Just make sure you update it after first start.
You need to unlock bootloader that means wiping your nexus completely. Then you can root using the tool.
I would not install custom roms on a nexus, you´ll anyway get latest goodies from google. However,
- AFWall+ firewall is very good for privacy protection
- AdAway gets rid of most ads
- Greenify saves battery and keep device smooth
- Orbot can enable tor routing for specific apps, such as orweb browser
Just follow the toolkit guidelines to first install pc drivers etc and you´ll be fine. Good luck.
Thanks everyone, But custom roms, would that be like a custom firmware? What exactly does a custom rom do or a specific or best custom rom out there?
Custom ROM basically=the os
Here's a copy of an email I sent to friends that bought a Nexus 7:

I've a question!
After making root at the N7, are there any problem in upgrading Android via OTA?
Thanks :silly:
Thanks for the responses everyone.
Many people seem to think you can only root wiith flashing TWRP over stock recovery. You can easily root with stock Android and stock recovery. Just in stead of 'flash' TWRP use the command 'boot'. That way you temperary boot TWRP via adb fastboot and with usb-cable attached. And than can flash SuperSu without loosing stock recovery. (Provided you already unlocked bootloader).
To make it easier for future OTA's and keeping root. Just before upgrading from by Google server pushed OTA 4.4 to 4.4.2 I bought Pro version of SuperSU and enabled 'Ota Survival Mode'. Worked great, after OTA still root. But off course it's wise to first keep an eye on issues and updates of SuperSu before applying future OTA.

My personnal :manual to temperary load TWRP in Dutch. Hopefully translate workes. Perhaps I can translate when back home
TWRP recovery tijdelijk laden zonder te flashen over stock recovery:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------
In TWRP zips flashen:
---------------------
3.Vervolgens 'Swipe to confirm flash' uitvoeren
5. Reboot. (Als SuperSu geflashed heb je nu root).

Finally, after two weeks failing with various methods, I successfully used this method to root 8.5.1 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1&postcount=18.

Possibility, kindle with x. 5. 1 to Rooten

Thanks esema1o! i tried the app and worked like a charm on 8.5.1! now rooted! all the issues about rooting the 8.5.1 i have read about ending with so many bricks, i would recommend anyone with Fire HD 8.9 with 8.5.1 version to use this app for root if you having trouble rooting with the so many other methods/tools i have read about on XDA! the app worked great, 2 clicks and rooted. i was somewhat scared to begin with because it just looks to easy for such a device that so many people are having problems rooting and the app is not written in English, but i said wth and tried anyway and what do you know, SUCCESS!
can't post link but a simple search and several clicks to actually get to the .apk download

Severe Wifi stability issues

Hallo all,
First of all a thanks to all the nice people helping everybody out of their misery. I really appreciate your effort!
On to my problem:
I own a XZ1 C since January and have been quite happy with it. A few weeks in I also rooted my device successfully (I think).
My smartphone was already at version .157 so I had to use the downgrade method.
Root 14.4.A.0.157 [ LB / UBL ]
But recently I noticed that I basically cannot access the Internet via Wi-Fi anymore. Everything I do takes forever to connect and then mostly takes forever to load.
The funny thing is, however, that my brother also owns a (not rooted) Z1 compact bought from the same vendor (Amazon) and has none of these issues in the same network, at the same location. He can watch 720p videos all day long while I often have to wait for 144p vids to load.
Sot the first thing I would assume that I did something wrong while rooting, but I cant image that such a "soft" error would come from a wrong firmware....
And that's why I need your help Is there anything beside a full reset via PC Companion and hoping for betterment? I have also read some articles, not related to the Z1C, that some AVM-modems can cause problems. Do you know of any internet wizzary to help me out?
Thanks for reading and replying!

I have done all the checks as you wished:
-Did not help. As far as I know this has nothing to do with WiFi, pls correct me if I'm wrong.
-I already had my device rooted, so yes it is rootable.
Again not sure how this should help with WiFi but here you go:
-Network mode is WCDMA/GSM
-Accesspoint is Planet 3 drei.at (Three Austria)
-Provider is 3G 3 AT
I am using stock ROM 4.4.4 build 14.A.0.157
During rooting my phone no error massages appeared or something similar, so I'm quite sure everything is as intended. Also the App says everything is ok.
I'd prefer not to fully reset my phone yet and would much more like to get the reasons behind my problem. But if no other options are left I will definitely come back to this option.
Thank you for answering

in english:
That's what I thought after all. If only it was Windows so I could blame the drivers ^^
As a side note, I am very disappointed of Sony's support as they (of course) blame my network and me, because I rooted my phone.
In the end the best thing I could do is resetting my Z1C via PC Companion.
Anyway, thank you for your kind support.
As a quick update for anybody encountering a similar problem:
I now flashed the kernel only which I downloaded while rooting the phone. It seams like this fixed my problem (for now) without erasing all my data. However, I will post another update to confirm the solution.
Finally back to HD video
Ok so I can now conclude that there seams to be a problem with the firmware.
After some while the problem just sneaked right back so reflashing the firmware is just a temporal solution. But I guess there is nothing wrong with flashing the firmware again and again, until Sony release an update.
I hope this helps.
