Touch problem with Z2 (plus) - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I have a Z2 plus since 2 month now and in the last few days I am experimenting big problems with the touch screen,
after some test I decide to download and try a touch tester from play store and I discover that almost allover the screen, if I touch it very gentle then the screen works flawlessly, but if I do a little pressure (more on the right part of the display, but if I try a little harder also on the left side) the screen detect, more then my finger's touch, 1-2 or some times even 3 touchs just on the very bottom of the display.
Obviously, when this happen during normal use the phone just doesn't response for a second or act weirdly (ex. open multitasking or other things).
I have searched on the web but doesn't seems to be a common problem.
I have also contact the chinese seller (bang00d) but actually I really don't count on them
I also tried to deactivate the bottom of the screen using "wm overscan" from terminal, but even if the part of the screen where the wrong touch are detected became escluded, the touch are still detected
I really don't know if overscan resize just the display and don't effect the touch ....
Any help is appreciated :highfive:

[Q] Touch screen malfunctioning?

Hello guys,
My G3's touch screen has been acting up for a week now and I am seeking help to pin point if it is a hardware issue or a software issue that can be fixed.
Whilst typing (have used different keyboards) I cannot seem to press the letter 'k' and the letter 'r' or any keys directly above or below those keys. I wondered what the problem was and started swiping my screen to see if I can flow through the UI of the phone smoothly. Suffice to say that it didn't which then prompted me to turn on the "Show touch" & "Show touch data" within the developer settings of the phone.
After turning on those two options, I could clearly see that the screen does not recognise any input on two parts of the screen. This can be seen in the screenshots I have posted.. As it shows when swiping on the screen it skips an entire column of the screen on both left and right sides of the screen .
I was hoping someone could shed some light in this issue since I have been trying to troubleshoot this problem with no avail for the past week. If this is hardware related then what would be the best course of action?
Additional Info:
* Have tried different firmware and roms
* Have tried other keyboards like google keyboard and swiftkey
* Have tried to clear cache and factory reset
* Have taken it to phone repair store and they said they would have to replace the LCD.. Thought I'd post here before I go that route.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You're gonna have to replace the digitizer. Unfortunately I had the same issue with my nexus 4. That's why I have the g3 now.

Thank you for your reply.
Was hoping I would not have to go through that route but it seems inevitable .
Is the G3's digitizer and LCD stuck together? If so it'll be a costly replacement :crying:
That I do not know. I know the frustration though. It might be a big charge

Ghost touches in upper third of screen

Hi.
My Z1C seems to have a similar case of faulty display as described in some other threads here, but actually a bit different. The phone is stock, not rooted, running 5.1.1
Whenever I do something, there are ghost touches in the upper quarter or third of the screen. They only happen when I am not touching the screen myself. It happens no matter what I do. When I browse internet, it clicks links, when I scroll contacts, it calls people, when I am on facebook it gives likes etc... It seems like the more demanding task the phone is performing, the more ghost touches.
I turned on the developer settings and the "show pointer location" option, which leaves track of the last touch on screen, so I can research the issue.
I found out that when the phone is on home screen, it happens very rarely or not at all - the track of my last touch stays until screen turns off.
When I jump into the touchscreen service test, it does not happen at all. I can draw a line around the whole screen and it stays higlighted indefinitely.
In lock screen, it also doesn't happen.
I tried it in Sketch and it confirmed what I thought, when I was just sketching, from time to time a dot appeared in the upper part of the screen, but when the phone was downloading or installing in the background, the screen literally had seizures. I touched and released and then a storm of dots started to appear around the top part of the screen. It stopped after 5+ seconds, and after another input from me, the screen got another fit, drawing more dots.
I don't have any experience, but I think that since the problem doesn't happen constantly and it doesn't even happen at all in test mode, it could be a SW mistake.
I have found this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2691849 and I'm willing to try, but 1) my phone is still under warranty and 2) I have never done a root so I am not too eager. Do you think I should try that? Or has anyone found another solution for this problem?
Thanks.

As You have warranty, I would strongly suggest that You go for a repair. I had the same issue in beginning, ghost touches appearing randomly, going away only after reboot. I was rooted and xposed, so went full stock without restoring any apps or data from internal storage, yet the problem remained, thus ruling out the point that it was software problem. And then after a week or so, that much part of screen stopped responding to touch entirely. You can see details over here, Another user had same problem as Mine and had the same end result,
OK then, I'll go for a repair. Thanks for the tip.

I am having exactly the same behaviour as you described .
Ghost touches happening on the upper part, and triggered when a demanding task is running.
Actually I didn't realized completely about this, I thought it was just random, but right now after I saw your post, I tried an app similar to Sketch while upgrading apps or playing a video in the background. And dots in the upper part start appearing crazily.
Did the phone repair solve your problem ? Mine is not in warranty, so I'll have to pay for it.
But also in my case, before this thing happened, I got some water damage and that upper quarter of the screen stopped responding.
After replacing screen+digitizer I got this very specific behaviour you described.

In my case, I realized that I bought (probably) a badly re-fitted phone. Display's backlight was visible around screen panel edges, where I'd say it shouldn't be visible at all. I decided to return the phone and got a refund.
Sorry for not being able to help you.

Ok. The aftermarket screen I got has that issue with the screen edges also. Very probable you are right.
In my case I water damaged myself. It seems that after 2 years of intensive use, waterproofing is gone, by accumulation of slight hits or so, never had a single crack on the screen. I read many posts reporting this happening, even with much less use time.
Too bad, I loved the phone, but I'm afraid that sending it to repair will mean to change the PCB or similar for a complete fix, which can come to a ridiculous price.
Seems it will be time to move on...
Yeah. If you want it fixed properly, you'd need to send it to Sony, and for the money it would cost you, you can probably gen a new phone. Sadly, similar phones aren't made anymore.

Top half inch screen not working

I have a HTC One m8 and the top half inch of the screen does not respond but occasionally it does sometimes for a little while. The top half inch generally tends to work when the battery is charged to 100% but sometimes that doesn't happen either. if it helps I use a tempered glass as a screen protector and the screen does not have any physical damage and it doesn't help when u boot into safe mode. I have also tried a hard reset.
Coincidentally i am working on a phone with the same problem (not mine). After a lot google research the owner decided to use another Launcher (Smart Launcher). This did not fix it entirely, if you are in Apps you can use the statusbar, but its not working on homescreen. I dont know why it behaves like that, but surprisingly many people get problems like that. I tend to believe that there is some software problem involved, because changing Launcher or using custom rom has been reported helpfull/fixing the problem (not allways tho..).
Now he had some other troubles with this phone and in the process i did a reset, that did not fix things as you said. I will install a custom rom next and will report back next week.
So i was wrong with saying a new lauchner solved the problem. Statusbar(sb) was accessible in home screen but not in app, said it wrong in the other comment. Now i had some time to test this and i can say that at least the phone i was working on is broken.
The top part does not recognize any touch input. The reason the sb showed some reactions is, that the launcher had a bigger trigger area (i guess), so you could pull it down. But still the top part was not responding. I tested it with stock, S-Rom and one Nougat Rom (dont remember), none of that showed an input in the top part.
Solution for now is different launcher or app that pulls down the bar. There are still some problems in daily usage, that this will not fix, so i guess its time for a new phone.
I am facing same problem. Is it any update which was pushed by HTC which makes the top 1 inch unresponsive ocassionally.. Indirectly, a marketing gimmick to push us by a new phone. So if it is really like that, who would buy a HTC phone again anticipating same problem again. Might go for Samsung (my own preference). huh !!!

touchscreen problem while playing games

I bought this phone, I think 7-8 days ago. Since I lost/stolen my older phone Kenzo, I had to buy a new phone.
I am facing issues with touchscreen (I will try to explain the problem in simple)
I downloaded Critical Ops, it works great even in Ultra mode but the problem is in middle of matches
For a few seconds the touch screen becomes laggy, to check I enabled that touch show option in Dev settings (let's call my touch - ball), I saw that even the ball doesn't even appear when the screen touch lags (it does appear but for like 0.5 secs in between those 5 secs). But after some time it starts working perfectly.
Please I don't want to go to service center, I don't know if this is a hardware problem or a software
Just please tell me how to fix it
Sorry for bad english.

screen stutter, complete loss of touch.

Been using the phone for the last 12 hours and I noticed something towards the end of my use last night.
The screen seemed to become unresponsive. And when it would work it would start to make its own input when scrolling and opening any app or link my finger would drag over while scrolling.
Changed refresh rates, changed resolutions, even seen if the blue light filter was the issue. Nothing.
Almost seems like the screen drops frames when scrolling, like it gets caught on something.
New development. Fingerprint sensor doesn't respond at all and inputting a pattern is damn near impossible. Going to try removing the screen protector to see if that could also be the issue
Did a factory reset
Issue seems to be where the finger print scanner is
It's almost like a dead or unresponsive zone.
Sounds like a factory defect, better have it replaced if resetting didn't worked.
Small video showing when scrolling over the fingerprint reader, the screen almost loses input
Defect.
Samsung has been little help lol. They want me to send it in for repair instead of an exchange. They also said to just order a whole new one and return the one I have now except the black 128 is sold out

Sounds like Samsung support LOL...sorry you're having issues
Did you remove the factory installed screen protector? Maybe it's the cause of the issue
Return that pal, that doesn't sound good at all.

one of the first things i did to trouble shoot. still having the issue. sometimes the screen completely loses all touch registration and it doesnt even know im trying to swipe or push on things. just realized it did this also after tmobiles new software update.
im still waiting here to hear back from samsung on how they are going to fix this issue
The same thing happens to me. Pulling down the notification shade seems to be the only thing that still works. It seems to goose the phone and it starts working again.
Test using the *#0*# diagnostic menu and use the Touch test.
