LG Gpad 8.3 worth getting in 2017? - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, i am looking for an android tablet to watch TV shows, YouTube and read the odd ebook.
Is the LG Gpad 8.3 still worth getting? I have seen them sell for around £60 and i like the fact that there is official linage support.
How good is the screen and speakers on this tablet? Any thing i should be careful of when buying it second hand? Any common faults or issues?

If I am correct i have been using this tablet for almost full 3 years, almost every day, up to couple of hours. I bought it for 200$. It's "okay" now days. It isn't that fast anymore, it heats up a lot if you push it to hard. I have problem with watching 720p60 videos on Youtube, and 1080p60 videos just freeze and you can hear only sound. With stock ROM i had random slowdowns, games and content just start to lag, but it stops after some time or a reboot. So i recommend a custom ROM. Speakers are loud, but they are on the back of tablet and i hate it. Sound often gets blocked by my flip cover. Even as an outdated device you can play some intense games like N.O.V.A. 3 with unnoticeable lag. 4500mAh Battery is "okay" when using the device, but on standby it can last maybe more than a month. I don't if it's me but sometimes touchscreen seem to be odd. Maybe it's because of my intense usage. I have dropped it few times from maybe about 1 meter, but no scratches. Maybe my case helped. Also, screen is great, but i see some like, bright little spots(about 3 of them), but they are not that bad. I don't guarantee it's for every device. For 60£ if it's great or near perfect condition it's an awesome deal. Another tablet that is great is Nvidia Shield Tablet, you can check it out.

Getting it back: Battery is going crazy

So... Im getting back my recently purchased Galaxy Note 2014 White Wifi 32GB for another one. Thanks god the shop gave 15 days in order to see if something went wrong.
Here is the point: Once the battery reach some percent between 20-30%, suddenly, just in a second, it drops till 10%, and seconds later, to 5%. No root, no apps opened, no strange software installed, Samsung Motion options used (except some S-pen functions) or Devs options touched, i checked out all this things after it happened the first time. I only used it to search on Firefox, write/read PDFs with ezPDF, see some movies or see how Real Racing 3 or Dead Trigger would see on the screen.
No idea about whats going on.
In adition, im worried about this tablet´s heating. Sometimes gets alarming and it feels pretty uncomfortable, as you feel something could break bad inside if so much heating is hitting the hardware, and men, im just using 3 simple apps at a time. I get Real Racing 3 use GPU really hard but... it feels moron as this game hasnt been update so it can use high graphic settings on this tablet.

[Q]Known problems of LG G3

I am thinking about buying a new G3, Is there any chronical issues-problems of LG G3?
Like dust in screen or speaker blow or any hardware malfunction
Don't be completly discouraged when reading this, as this is just my list of CONs for this phone.
Here's some of the issues i've had on my G3 from the very minute my phone left the box:
1. The phone has a locked bootloader, So don't expect any custom roms or kernels anytime soon.
2. This phone gets very hot for almost no explainable reason all the time doing small tasks like browsing the web.
3. WiFi (and maby LTE??) are REALLY slow in comparison to every other phone i've owned in recent years (sometimes web pages even freeze while loading).
4. The stock web browser kills my battery in about 2-3 hours from a full charge on 0% brightness because of LGs stock webbrowser sandbox security.
5. I get constant "connection timed out" errors while trying to stream many online videos using the stock web browser.
6. CPU doesn't hit max speed on this device without messing with thermal options.
7. The phone is very laggy & slow on my version (10b), I don't know how other versions are though.
8. The glass started falling out of my first G3 (around the edges) and i had to exchange for a new one because of this. (my new one did this too but only at the bottom and i just live with it)
9. VERY poor color & contrast when the screen brightness is turned way up (looks good at low brightness though).
10. My left headphone buzzes while the CPU is under load while no audio is playing, Once the CPU load stops or once a song or movie starts playing the buzzing stops (tested with 2 sets of headphones, both buzz but apparently some other users say there are headphones that don't do this).
11. + some other small things.
Probly the most complained about things are these:
1. lag
2. overheating
3. physical cracks develop usually around the ir blaster or mic
Im not having any lag issues, im on 10i though, my phone is yet to get hot too, not sure why this is, im very very happy with mine at this stage, only downside is the locked bootloader.
No issues here, the heat issue was fixed with software updates from what I have seen. I have no issues with heat on mine. The contrast can be fixed or made a little better in the accessibility menu. I've had 3 G3's and none of them had the screen fall out or develop a crack around the frame. (I think that was a limited issue)
I bought my first G3 back in early June and it was fine until I dropped it off my balcony. My Att G3 hasn't had any issues either. The signal issue listed above is more of s perception thing. My F460S (G3 Prime) only has 4 bars in its cell service instead of 5-6 that others have. So basically if I have 3 bars its like having 4-5 and my connection has always been fine. I think that some of the issues are exaggerated on this phone but that's just from what I have seen after owning a G3 since it launched more or less.
No lag, no heating.. Just two troubles.. 1.LG software.. Phone is so slow and heavy. 2. Locked bootloader..no LG software replacement.
If you want a g3 with an unlocked bootloader, buy it from T-Mobile. I have mine rooted recoveried, and have installed a very nice custom rom/kernel. This is by far my favorite Android yet.
As far as Amb669's list goes we haven't seen any of those problems. My wife and I have had our Verizon G3's for a couple of weeks now (not exactly a long time) with zero issues.
My WiFi speed in particular is Amazing.
Keep in mind two very important caveats:
My wife and I almost certainly use our G3's differently than Amb669 (and each other) - not better or worse just different.
It's possible that if we used our G3's in the same way as Amb669 does we might experience similar problems.
Our G3's were purchased recently - our phones may be from a later batch that has had issues corrected.
Our G3's firmware/software could also be different/improved.
I LOVE this phone and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.
I have some problems with my G3 too, it's too slow... i prefer my Old Xperia ZQ, maybe it's a Software Problem ? and my G3 gets so hot too... damit i'm disappointed.. there are something that could do ?? i already resete it but still the same thing.

I have not encountered ANY of these issues, except for the heat issue.. But seriously it doesn't get that hot? Mine gets to about 55 degrees Celcius and that's max.. (I have the int. Version though)
On the other hand I do agree on the fact that the colours could be better on high brightness but hey, it's not a Samsung AMOLED display like the S5
For me the LG G3 is a stylish, fast, and amazing phone that offers everything I need :good:

Coming from OPO, will I be happy

I broke one OPO yesterday beyond repair, its not worth sending it back for the amount they are going to charge me to fix it($223). Will I be happy switching to the G3 since it is a very similar phone or should I look towards something like the G4. I know the G4 is apparently riddled with problems(touch screen issues being the worst) so that scares me a bit.
My biggest concern with the G3 is not the hardware. I know the 801 is still a decent CPU and will hold up for a while, I am nervous about continued support and updates being that the phone is already over a year old.
Sorry if this has been asked a million times, the OPO was my work phone and i need to make this decision ASAP.
wondering the same thing
LG g3 is best phone
better call time and standby time
okay you get like 3-4h screen on against 8h on opo but the opo didnt hold a day at work with bluetooth on and 2h browsing it came dead home mostly or at 10%
but the lg g3 in 2h loses 5% with bluetooth and 3g the opo lost more like 10-15% with the same bluetooth and lg g watch
over all better quality phone and smaller for the same screen
okay its a bit more plastic and slippy, but a tpu case fixes that, the opo has a slow and bad touchscreen worked but needed to press it hard/harder than normal
voila i recommand the lg g3 to all
6months of having a opo was enough the phone wan't premium like i wanted
(exchanged it for a gold 16gb lg g3 about the same value) but a 32gb would be better to have the 3gb ram that the only thing i miss
From my experience (never owned a OPO), I like my LG G3 (not love..). You shouldn't be worried about updates (we will be getting M) and XDA is a great place for updates (AOSP). As for battery, you may or may not like it, it varies for everyone but for me, I can get through a day easily with moderate usage (no gaming, texting, browsing the web, youtube, etc.). If you choose to root, you can get more on AOSP but it varies.
Overall, I like my LG G3 and would recommend it to you as well.
One last thing, the G4 sounds great too but you shouldn't be too worried about touch screen issues on the G4 because I'm sure it's a rare issue and the chances of it happening to you sound so slim. Don't worry too much, its just a phone
Good luck!

The OPO did have a solid battery, but I had touch screen issues like you mentioned. They seemed to come and go. When it "exploded" it did have a TPU case and glass screen protector but that didnt save it.

I am not a power user, little to no gaming so I think I should be ok.
I am sure the G4 issues are not on every phone but there is a 50 page thread over there about the screen issues and a lot of pissed off people who have returned multiple phones and some who just gave up altogether and moved on. It seems to be a little more than the typical issues that all phones inevitably have.

Nonetheless, don't be afraid to try, you have options. Good luck mate!
I ended up pulling the trigger on a used g3 fulfilled by amazon. It is def a solid phone and was pretty cheap.

good for you
the battery will be a bit different
but after some weeks you will get used to it
the opo has lots of screen on time but not standby so at work i don't see much difference using it 2h aday opo or lg g3 about hte same at the end of the day cause of the bad standby
but on a lazy day at home the opo was great 6h straight on the phone gaming internet no problem, lg 2-4h but at the end it is all worth it
i always wanted a lg g3/g2 but was to expensive that why i bought the opo and since the price of the opo didnt go down after 6mopnths use i could exchange it for a lg g3 16gb who was 350 new and 250 2nd had but right now about the same value 300euro new
any way enjoy the lg g3
my opinion is: GO FOR IT!
The LG G3 still one of the best this days and worth the money (32GB/3GB are at 365€ in Portugal ~399$ dollars).
If you are worried because updates and other things, for more 50$ you get the Motorola Nexus 6 32GB and get updates faster, have the SD805 is a bit more faster tha SD801 and is the only thing who are better...but some users report battery issues, screen issues (burning, get pinkish screen) etc etc, depends of lucky not necessary will you have those problems! i own a G3 and i love it:
camera is amazing;
sound is louder but dont have the same quality as Nexus 6!
weight is excellent to handle
screen without sharpness mod is a bit strange because oversharpening;
love the rear buttons and i cant live without this now, is so useful;
OST is about 4 hours but sometimes i get more if i use the phone inside home, i lower the brightness and i get about 5:30 hours;
easy to disassemble if you broke/damage something (i disassembly my G3 to apply thermal compound in processor to have good temps, because my G3 have heat issues.);
have a remote IR, other high-end phones dont have it, is so useful to me because sometimes i forget my remote and use the phone as my remote;
battery can be changed and with this if you get your battery damaged or have one to replace when run out of power you can do it;
overall is a good phone, is my opinion, when i was go to buy a high-end phone i am confused with Motorola Nexus 6 and LG G3, but because the issues is more in Nexus 6 than in G3 i buy the G3 for sure...but, if you arent worred about issues of Nexus 6, buy the Nexus 6 because have better screen color, no oversharpening and have better sound quality because have stereo speakers and have the updates faster!
So I got the phone. It was nearly flawless with a few very minor scratches on the screen. In order to see them you had look at the phone off angle from the bottom right corner, during a full moon, while the planets aligned. In other words I am very happy from a condition standpoint. So far the phone has been great, the camera is way faster, typing seems to be WAY more acurate than my last few phones, and its got an IR blaster which is did not realize. Battery does seem to drain quicker but i am not a power user so i dont think it will be an issue getting through the day.
To me, having seen OPO but not used for long, just do it. OPO is a good phone - for the price tag. Since you can get a cheap factory refurbished G3 now, I see no reason not to move on. Battery is super good with some tweaks and custom roms. Moderate usage and still around 70-80% of battery before going to bed. If you are not showing off your new phone that not many care any more, get a year old phone like g3, s5, and m8...

Screen quality seems to have dropped in games since 5.1.1

Hi, I have just upgraded my 12.2 last night to 5.1.1 , since updating i have noticed 2 things with 2 games i play:
Clash Of Clans - Quality of the screen looks a little less in the game than it was plus when i start the game i get like a white streak at the very bottom of my screen and then the game starts afterwards.
Boom Beach - The quality of the graphics in this game looks much worse than it did before, i have checked that the quality was still set to high which it was, things just dont look sharp like they did before.
Is there something they have done in 5.1.1 to make the tablet cope with games better by reducing the quality or something?
Any advice?
Regards
James
I would thinks it's the other way around... That it's the games going into some sort of comparability mode if it's not updated to work with 5.1.1 on a screen with those specs (Rez and size) and/or not updated to run on 5.1.1 and our Exynos chips.. I'm speculating here, but I've never heard of the device maker doing the dance around , it usually the devs having to play catchup with updates to ensure their software plays well on the hardware. Good luck and check patches and updates for your games!
Having the same problem here with display after updating in 5.1.1, in almost every app and in browsing. Everything seems to be displayed in low quality aftr the upgrade. I own a tab pro 12.2 german version..

The SAME EXACT thing happened to me on Boom Beach and Clash of Clans, more so on Boom Beach. It just started happening about 1 week ago, the "new Jellybean update" was within the last 2 weeks for me and now the games don't work very well. I get a flash of white distorted and enlarged graphic icons that flash across the bottom (like the poorest resolution possible) then it starts up and looks terrible. I've uninstalled both games and reinstalled them because I thought that I did something wrong and messed it up. I'm actually debating on uninstalling and not playing the games now because it's terrible. Silver lining, at least someone else in the world is having the same problem and it's not my tablet about to croak. I was worried I burned out my tablet.

The thread of undying positivity

So all I see here is bad stuff being said about the Razer phone. I for one seem to be luck enough to have a good unit.
Can we get some love here and say what our favorite thing about the Razer is, or just post a comment saying that you've had no issues and are generally happy.
I love the audio output on the USB C adapter, absolutely unreal!
Next.......:good:
Cheers!
I am enjoying mine. I can make it through 2 days on a charge watch videos and movies that sound good on the speakers. I'm not a big picture taker but when I do I am OK with what I get,have a dslr for good pics.
Oh I forgot, flat screen so glass screen protector covers the whole thing.
Using Sony phones since 2005. Truly impressed with this device
Love the raw power for gaming and emulators as well as the speakers for watching movies with the fam

This... All the way!
I play l2r at highest settings and it's gorgeous, audio sounds amazing through the speakers or headphones and Dolby atmos helps alot.
Can't BELIEVE how fast this thing charges and it lasts for ever.. I literally get over a day's use with an average of 7+ hrs SOT! I've never had a phone that lasted like this thing does.. Any other phone was ~5hrs max with customized kernel/roms.. This thing is crushing that stock!
I also LOVE the squared designs as I hate all these rounded edges now a days.
I truly believe this is a reincarnation of the nexus line! If they would just get the last few software issues resolved and we get a few more developers on board.
Fastest phone on the market!

I am having problems with L2R for the last 3 months. It will just force close no error after 20 mins plus. If I enhance/level up equipment etc then it will force close earlier. I cannot maintain an hours of gaming before it just force closes. Can you advise what settings, firmware version you are using to get such stable gaming?
Am definitely on the list of those with positive vibes for this phone. Bought it only for 250£ fully boxed with recipt and warranty and it's been great. The bad is the screen in bright day light but all else is absolutely fabulous.
Fast charging and a battery that lasts a whole day (my first phone ever that can do that).
Great screen (too bad about the brightness though).
OS is superfast and free of bloatware. Love Nova Launcher for a couple of years now.
Great phone design (I like the blocky design).
The speakers, screen and battery capacity made me instantly purchase this phone, I'm happy with it.
Been my daily user since release date (pre-ordered).. Besides the screen not being bright and an occasional lockup/restart, best phone i've ever owned.
I would like to chime in here and say I'm a very picky sod when it comes to my smartphone choice, I started with HTC as they were willing to experiment and innovative, I loved my One M7 for its front facing stereo speakers and kept with the range till the M9 when (IMHO) the company lost their way, I swapped to a ZTE AXON 7 as that device was amazing for its power and audio, THIS PHONE KICKS ALL THOSE DEVICES TO THE KERB it's got a great battery, amazing screen, speed, raw power, great WiFi connectivity, frelling amazing Audio and sounds brilliant.
I've owned a general release unit since December and dam I love it, have been asked about it a few times every month and I haven't seen anyone else with one so I feel somewhat superior to others. Even my friend who's been a iPhone diehard is jumping ship to this when he upgrades in August even though it's a few months old
Very pleased, very very impressed with Razers first foray into the smartphone market
Honestly the only issues i had with my razer phone(s) was that the first two that i RMAed had speaker issues along with this one i think. But other than that i had no other issues except some freezing issues which i think were currupted app datas.
I just wish the xda dev side was full of more mods and discoveries about this device.
