Mobile Hotspot Not Working - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Anyone else having this issue? When I go to enable my hotspot, the phone tells me that I need to "Subscribe" to the tethering plan from Verizon, even though I have the new Unlimited Plan... Not sure what to do. FoxFi USB works but I'd prefer speeds above 20mbps, else I'd just use my USB modem instead.

[Q] Portable Wi-Fi hotspot After OTA

So i am a little confused... I just got the latest OTA and now i have an option under settings-->Wireless & networks called Tethering & portable hotspot and from the looks of it i can use my phone as a wi-fi hotspot and i do not have root. So can we now use this feature with no additional cost to our plans? How does this fit into t-mobile releasing new wi-fi tethering plans starting at $15 a month.
I just got the update too. USB tethering works fine, and to my surprise, so does the hotspot. I say surprise because I have not added the $15.00 plan to my account. The only thing is there is no direct shortcut available so i used Anycut to make one.
not too sure but....
I am very new to these phones in general so I am not too savey from reading other posts it sounded like t-mobile was going to give that feature free at first for a little while until they get it all straightened out. I also read that they would not use the wifi calling as your mins but I see on mine (I just got teh update like in hours ago) that it says wifi calling uses plan mins... which is just fine for me cuz i never go near my mins... so i dnk if that helps but i think for now the tethering is free but they will charge it later... but dont quote me.

For them to start charging you they need to have a plan first. But even so, if they ask you to pay up I suggest canceling your current plan without an ETF and signing on for the non-contract plans. You'll save money, get a subsidized phone, and once we have root, you'll have wifi tethering again
I can't get the usb tethering to work. Windows can't find the android phone driver. I've installed the android sdk. Did you do anything special to get the driver?
When I try the hotspot, my computer can connect to the phone but the phone does not get an internet connection.

My goal is to USB tether my laptop.
I used pdanet successfully before the update just fine but now I have the update and want to try to use the built in usb tethering.
I manually installed the update to the G2 so I had tethering and the wifi hotspot. The wifi hotspot worked awesome with my laptop and I went to try the USB tethering to my desktop, but windows 7 couldnt find the correct driver to use. I hunted around the forums and google'd a few different things, but came up empty. I am wondering if anyone else has found the solution to this yet and could please share.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and my G2 is running 2.2 build 1.22.531.8
Thanks in advance
i saw the new settings as well but i dont think it will be free... tmo did release (or is going to release) a tethering plan for $15. I've been using wifi calling at home, i checked my usage and is coming under T-Mobile HotSpot--- im under a grandfathered plan
i guess if you are planning to use the hotspot i would be careful not to incur any data fees
FYI
I have just checked my bill... I have used Wifi Hotspot from my G2 and used just over 5GB of data. No charge. I have 4 days left of my bill cycle, will update when my bill comes out.
...one more thing, are all of you not able to use the wifi hotspot settings? I see a lot of people rooting their phones to be able to run a wifi hotspot. If so, why are only a few people able to do this, including myself.
If you need more information on my G2, let me know.
thanks.
When my desire Z had the stock rom it had no problems with wifi or usb tether, so it might be T-Mobile trying to sell their tethering plan with the g2.
True, although I checked with tmobile online and gave them a call and they said they are not charging me extra for me using my WiFi hotspot.

[Q] USB Tethering Question

So I know Sprint has their tethering program built into the phone, but in settings, there is an option to USB Tether, and I was wondering if I will get charged the 29.99 a month like i would if i used the Sprint program to tether. I don't think i will, but i was just wondering before i do it!!
Thanks!!!
attached is a screenshot of what the menu looks like even though i dont have it plugged into my computer
The $30 charge is only for sprint hotspot tethering. I haven't gotten the USB tethering to work for me but since I'm rooted I just use wired tether.

I'm rooted so I just use Barnacle Wi-Fi tether. Works well enough. Either way though its just 3G.
Does anyone know if the Sprint hotspot use the 4G data connection or is it 3G only?

Sprint hotspot does use the 4G, on my EVO 4G, i am rooted and the build i am running has the hacked version of it in there, 3G and 4G hotspot if you pay for it!!
I figured as much but you never know.

I Though the Wifi Tethering App, allowed the 4G/3G tethering without any problems? I've used it like 2 or 3 times, with my Epic 4G, and 4G/3G always have worked. ( I haven't rooted my ET4G phone yet, until there is a known way to go back to fully stock without problems..)

[Q] USB data tether?

I know it has the WiFi hotspot data tether
But does it support data tether via USB ?
Yes, but you will need a Verizon tethering data plan. Works for Wifi and USB. Or install PDAnet......
Mine would be the GSM HSDPA+ version
and I'm on "Three" in the UK who have unlimited data inc tethering.
On the GSM phones you don't need a tethering data plan, USB tethering works just fine.

You know, I've got to learn to start looking a peoples carriers before I answer or comment. I'm not used to having a phone/being on a forum with anyone else than CDMA/Verizon. Coming from Thunderbolt and before that Droid Incredible.

Yep there are 3 options built in: USB tethering, WiFi Hotspot, and Bluetooth tethering.
time to go phone hunting

Tether with lumia 900???

Is there any way to get tethering enabled on this phone without paying AT&T for tethering plan.
if devs can make a flash-able zip to enable tether that would be great.
anything out there for this?
I guess the only way is to have a shared data plan or pay to tether the phone.
As soon as u start tethering, AT&T will know and will add the tethering package/plan to your bill.

Hacked hotspot question

I have a hacked factory hotspot on my s4, and what I was wondering, i know it basically bypasses the hotspot plan and shows up in data instead. My question is, can I only use as much hotspot as I have for data? Like if i only get 5gb of lte a month, is that all I can use?
Right now I have the unlimited lte pan, and I use over 300gb a month, and it shows on my data plan. But i may need to downside. I don't want to lose what i use for hotspot though.
Bump

Yes, the hotspot data use will show up in your data total.
So I would need unlimited data if I want unlimited hotspot

Yes. The next problem will be if you really use tethering a lot, tmo will flag you and you will have to use a VPN to avoid getting the tethering detected. That is the step I am evaluating now.
I'll have to figure out how to do that, I have no clue about anything about vpn's
If I get tagged before you do, I'll post exactly how I get the VPN up and running.

Please do. It would be much appreciated
Doesn't matter what you do they'll throttle you down if they consider wrongful usage. Whether it's thru data or tether data. If it shows on your plan, T-Mobile knows about it. The question would be what's the allowed limit?
Sent from my LG-D959 using XDA Free mobile app
I think I have the answer. PDANET+ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got tagged by Tmo for exceeding my tethering cap and they shut me down. Started fighting with VPN's but after a day, gave up and came across PDAnet+ and tried it. Has been working for two days. The only catch is you have to USB tether, not wifi. You also have to throw the "hide from throttling" switch in the software. So far so good.
