Replacing Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-i9195) MainBoard? - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody.
My Galaxy S4 Mini suddenly went off when using it while it was being charged. I took it to a repair store and they said the the phone's Main Board/Circuit Board/Logic Board is done and it only can be fixed by replacing.
I have found an old S4 Mini that I can buy on a website, but the problem is that the phone is a 32 GB version and my phone is 8 GB version. Will it be a problem if I replace it? Will the other parts of the phone adopt to the new Main Board?
I have also found another website where you can order phone Main Boards from China, but I'm not sure what to do.
Any suggestion would be helpful.
Thanks for your time and response(s) in advance.

hard to know as they have probably changed more than just the memory chip, I don't know though. I know that replacement power boards do not always work with newer motherboards, so it's a bit risky. But this sort of thing has worked on other phones, there was an article a couple of weeks ago here on XDA where someone changed the memory 32GB chip for a 64GB in a Nexus (?), but that's a different scenario,
What is wrong with the 32GB phone? If it's just a cracked screen or something you probably have a better chance of putting your screen in that phone and using that, but it's still a slight risk.
Sourcing from China can be risky, but I've bought stuff from there before and it's arrived as promised, mostly via ebay though, buying from Hong Kong is much safer I think.

Thanks for your reply.
The 32 GB phone as you precisely guessed has a cracked screen. I hadn't actually thought of swapping the screen. It could even be a better solution :good: (will ask the repair shop first, whether they will do it).

AFAIK there's no 32 Gb version, only 8/16Gb. Maybe the seller is including the microSD memory in the overall capacity?
I've replaced 5 or 6 mainboards of the i9195, the first two were bought in China (Aliexpress), and they worked ok. the rest of the mainboards were bought to a local seller in eBay with a minimal price difference. Here's a good guide to access the mainboard, it was very easy to do (you only need to follow the 3 first steps): https://es.ifixit.com/Guide/Samsung+Galaxy+S4+Mini+Home+Button+Flex+Cable+Assembly+Replacement/47582
Keep in mind that almost all the mainboards are second handed, so there's a chance to have Knox tripped or data inside them. I've had all of them with Knox 0x0, but if you really need it then you must ask the seller before you buy it.

It looks like as you mentioned, there aren't any 32 GB version. I assume that's a misunderstanding.
So, taking your experiences, I assume that changing motherboards should fix the phone and it wouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your time.

Hi guys! My friend has a i9190 3g model, lafleur edition, but she wants to use LTE. I9195 LTE model doesn't come in lafleur colors, so I thought to buy i9195 mother board and just put it to 9190's frame. Can anybody tell me is it possible or not?

Hi.
In another post someone has asked a question which is somehow similar to your question (you can check it out here Will i9190 case and screen protector fit i9192?).
If I'm not wrong, the answers suggest that the internal hardware are compatible with other models and/or they fit in other model's case, but you may want to send a reply there and ask your specific question.

[Q] Xperia Play R800 SD Card Slot Module replacement

hello everyone
I have bought a used Xperia Play that has a defective SD card reader and i cant seem to get a hold of the seller. everything is working except for the sd card reader. when i opened it up, I found out that the module is broken. I looked on Ebay and found what I need, only to discover that the seller doesnt ship to Canada. Does anyone know somewhere else I can get this item from?
here is the link: ebay.com/itm/OEM-SONY-ERICSSON-XPERIA-PLAY-MICRO-SD-CARD-PORT-PARTS-FIX-R800-USA-/130590488389?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e67ccb745#ht_895wt_932[/url]
thanks
That link seems to give a "page not found" error
Think he means this link. I just copied the Sony part all the way to the end.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-SONY-ER...389?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e67ccb745
Yes thats the one im talking about. Unfortunately he doesnt ship to canada, and he is the only person i found who sells it. If anyone knows where to get one like this, PLEASE tell me/us where to get it.
thanks in advance
May not be a solution for you, but if you happen to have a friend in the US, you could have him receive it then send it to you.
did you try messaging the seller and asking him if you paid the full price for shipping if he would make an exception?
man i'm wishing i lived in the US right now lol. Is there some kind of OEM parts website that sells it? I dont want to send it back to Sony because I know they'll charge me a mind boggling price. also BTW, when i plug in my headphones no sound comes from them, but the sound keeps coming out of the speakers. does anyone know anything about that?
thanks for the help

I've got the same issue. Some dumba$$ duped me into trading a brand-new mint condition Blackberry 9810 for a VG condition Xperia Play - which at the time seemed like a perfect trade to me because I wanted an Android device... and the gaming aspect was intriguing. Little did I know that the SD card was fubar, and this guy didn't bother to tell me. So of course, I test everything except the card slot, and when I try to contact him again after the deal was made - he's vanished. His last reply to me? "Move on, sorry"...
I need to find a way to fix this, or find someone who can fix this (I'm not overly good with my hands, especially not on smaller parts).
Any help anyone can give me, or if the OP found a solution, and could post it here, that would be great.
I'm in the Toronto, Ontario, Canada area (which I believe the OP was as well - what does that say about the quality of the people trading phones around here?)
Thanks in advance.

Hi
The weird thing is that almost exactly the same thing happened to me, except that I paid cash. Anyways, after about two months of searching on the net, I managed to fix the phone up. I kept looking online for just the SD Card Reader itself, but couldnt find anything at all. So, I had to go hunting for a damaged xperia so I can use parts out of it. After a lot of searching on kijiji, ebay, etc, I found one with a broken screen on kijiji in Niagara Falls, so I contacted the seller and had him ship it to me (I got lucky on that lol), and paid him via paypal. Then, I swapped the motherboards between my phone and the broken one because the sd card reader is sort of soldered onto the motherboard, and I have very twitchy hands, so I decided not to mess with anything and just swap the whole thing. After that, I sold the broken one (which has my old broken motherboard in it) on Ebay for parts. Anyways, the point is to buy another xperia with a broken screen or something and swap motherboards, and for that you need alot of patience because you can barely find any parts for the xperia play on the net. Or, just deal with what happened and sell your phone on ebay as is for parts. Good luck
Lol I actually live in Ottawa but I bought the device while I was visiting some relatives in Toronto, says a lot about the quality of people selling phones in toronto.
one last thing, if you're going to buy a broken phone for parts, make sure its GSM , not CDMA.
I wanted to know if its easy to repair the sd card module on the xperia play the one i have is a at&t model 4g yeah the sd slot doesnt detect my micro sd i have a bunch of working micro sd cards thats why i was asking does it clip off or does it require soldering

[Q] Recomendation for buying a screen replacement

Hi, I'm new here so apologizes if I break any forum etiquette
Some days ago I accidentally dropped my Galaxy Nexus i9250 and shattered the screen.
Looking around I found that I need to get he digitizer plus LCD screen since they are fused, I found a couple of alternatives in ebay but I'm not sure which one to get.
Basically I'm between two options, the first one is a LCD + Touch Screen Digitizer +Front Cover Replace and the second one is just the digitizer and LCD screen.
Of course I want to get the most closer to the original part and although the first seller told me it's the original part I'm not sure about it.
In the second item you can actually see the Samsung logo so that's probably an original part.
Do anybody has a suggestion about which way to follow?
I would post links to the items in ebay but I can't cause I'm new.
Thanks,
Javier

It's been discussed in several threads, people usually say it's better to send it to samsung and let them fix it than buying the digitizer+lcd , coz in terms of money u wouldn't be saving much if u're planning to buy the parts urself.
P.s. posting in Q&A might have been more proper, plus u'd probably get more answers and ideas

Thanks, the problem is that I'm in a country where the Galaxy Nexus isn't sold, so I talked with Samsung and they told me that they can repare it but I have to send it to the US and they will mail it back to a mainland US address when fixed.
I did that once for a laptop and it took a lot of time and money, actually it will cost the same than getting a brand new phone.
This is why I need to do it myself.

Broken display. Help needed.

Hi. few days back my galaxy nexus fell on the concrete floor first display and the screen got broken. i guess the galaxy nexus screen is not well protected as this was the first time it fell and broke. So you better use a casing.
Anyway.. the problem is, i went to the shop to get it repaired but they don't have the display of Galaxy nexus. I live in Bangladesh (South East Asia) and apparently not enough Galaxy Nexus has made it here. So what do i do? I love my nexus way too much to buy a new phone and it has not been a year since i am using it.
What i was thinking is that, many of you might have a nexus which is not working, probably a bad mother-board, with perfect display. Some of you might have a spare nexus which you are not even using. So will it be possible for you to ship it here? I just need the display so that i can repair it .i could have bought it from ebay, but ebay is not yet available in our country. I know it is a lot to ask, but i am ready to pay every penny. If any of you want or can help me, please write here, i will send all my details.
Thanks a lot. I will be really grateful

Ebay does not provide their service in Bangladesh. Otherwise i would have done that.

About to send my 2nd G4 back

First one I received during the pre order did not read SD Cards... after some inspection I saw that there was some damage to the SD Card slot.
I filed a claim with T Mobile and received a new device. This new one was able to read SD Cards, however in a side-by-side test with the original phone, the screen quality was absolutely horrible. Yellow tint on everything, most noticeably on the settings screen. 100% brightness looked more like 70. Holding both phones in hand, there is also a definite weight difference between the 2... the original with bad SD slot undoubtedly weighs more than the 2nd phone I received. Its not a mental thing, I've had 5 people blindly hold both and each one says the same thing.
WTF LG?? I'll make one more exchange before I move on the the S6
Had mine for over a week now with no issues (H815 EU).
Just plain bad luck on your part??

Agree. Way better than my Note 3. Hands-down the best phone I've owned. Maybe you're a statistical outlier?

Its possible, but 0 for 2 isnt a very good rate... Luckily the G4 is pretty easy to disassemble (an advantage, i guess?) so I swapped logic boards and now have what I consider a complete unit.

and the IMEI gets swapped as well since it's on the logic board right?

How to check that S7 active is fixed waterproof problem?

The first batch of S7 active have the waterproof problem. Samsung told that they fixed it in the second batch and replace first batch for free . So when we buy phone from ebay. How can we check that phone is fixed ? The date it was made or imei ?
Thank you you guys. Sorry for my English.
Very good question.
any news on this ??
as im looking to get one in the UK too !
I read some articles saying that it's not specific to any batch. The best strategy is to bring the phone underwater and see if it holds. Good news is that this phone is pretty new so even if you buy from Ebay, it sure is under warranty, as long as the phone is not on any blacklist. Samsung is getting quite good in customer service, at least in my experience. I bought an S7 active from Ebay which has serious scratches and re-booting issue. I called Samsung, sent the phone to them and around a week later, they send back with new main board, new screen and essentially everything new. No more scratches!
thats some great news cppc
are you in the UK too ? if so, which eBayer did you use ? and which samsung contact did you use ?
and lastly, did samsung question how you got the phone etc ?? ..

No I'm in the US. I just called the Samsung support contact on their website. They didn't ask me for proof of purchase, just the IMEI. They did, however, ask me to stop by Bestbuy first as they have a specialized technician there to see if that guy can help fix the issue. Since that guy couldn't help, they sent me the shipping label to send the device to them. In the end I didn't have to pay anything
