How to give permissions to Settings apps? - Moto M Questions & Answers

I am using Moto M XT1663 with Android 6.0 While trying to enable Settings-> Google ->Security->Allow remote lock and erase, the phone gives message "Settings" can not be used, please try to allow permissions. Then it shows permissions screen for Settings app where "No permissions" is seen. There is apparently no way to give permissions to the Settings app?
Can anyone help with suggestions on how to give permissions to Settings apps?
Thanks

[Q] superuser settings disappeared on cm10.1

I'm on the latest cyanogenmod nightly with superuser integrated. I disabled it and now it's gone from my settings menu so I can't reenable it. help appreciated.
Is the app still installed. Download it from the play store.

I'm having the same problem as OP, need help solving it. Downloading the app from the play store didn't help as CM10.1 has Superuser integrated within it.
Reflash the rom?
figured out how to get the "# Superuser" menu item back...

I just had this same problem - I disabled root via the "# Superuser" sub-menu off settings ..then it disappeared.
...I then also noticed my "{ } Developer options" was gone... (not sure if one led to another or not). Anyhooooo... I re-enabled developer options (via tapping build number a bunch of times) then, inside developer options, turn "on" dev options, then when down to the "Root Access" options, selected then enabled "Apps and ADB".
Tada .. "# Superuser" is back in the main settings menu.
fyi .. I then went back to developer options to turn them off ..as I usually don't have them on unless I'm coding... noticed that the "{ } Developer options" menu item disappeared again. No worries though it reappears if you do go back and tap on build number

Can't change permissions - screen overlay detected

I'm on Android 6.0.1 stock. I had earlier installed the RedMoon app which is like what f.lux does in Windows. But if that app is running, you can't change the "app permissions" manually. You have to pause/clsoe the RedMoon app and then you may disable the permissions.
Otherwise, you'll be prompted with this error -
Screen overlay detected
To change this permission setting, you first have to turn off the screen overlay from Settings > Apps.
Anyway, later I uninstalled the RedMoon app but still I can't change the default permissions unless I'm prompted on the first run.
e.g. When I installed the Snapdeal app, even before the first launch, it had all the permissions, but I don't want to give sms/contacts permissions to it. How do I change it?
If you go to the application manager in your phone's settings and find the specific app you want to change permissions for, there should be a permissions option. You can each permission the app has there. Also, the next time you get a popup about the screen overlay, click the Open Settings option and scroll through the list of apps to find any that show the toggle in the on position. For me, the two apps that have screen overlay permissions are Messaging and Facebook Messenger. I have to disable them each time in order to accept permissions, then I have to re-enable the overlay later. It's a stupid system and I'm hoping the release of Android N will find a more elegant solution, but for now it's the only workaround I know of.

Apps made before MM's permission changes don't prompt on demand and are all granted. When you try to disable one of their permissions in a list it will warn you that errors may occur.
I've found a workaround for quickly disabling an overlay for permission toggling. I posted it here:

In my micromax canvas a1 I don't know how to disable the screen overlay setting ????

Screen Overlay detected

After attempting to install a Bank App my phone I get the following error on any app that accesses the Camera.
Allow Open Camera to take pictures and record video?
after selecting allow I get the following:
-------------------------------------------------------
Screen Overlay detected
To change this permission section you first have to turn off the screen overlay from Settings > Apps

Click to collapse
If I attempt to use Cam-Scanner I got
Please go to Settings to enable storage permissionso you can save docs
(Settings apps-camScanner-permissions-storage)
Click to collapse
When I select permissions it says no permissions granted. When I try to turn on storage permissions I get screen overlay message seen above.
I never had this issue before. Is there something going on with my permissions and how do I correct it?
thanks for your help
Go to Settings -> Apps -> 3 dots Configure apps -> Special access -> Draw over other apps
One of the apps listed here is the problem, try to disable one by one until the problem is fixed.

If you are running on marshmallow(6.*) Ignore that, first restart the phone on safe mode and then do what this member said(i had the same problem before nougat) or just give the app permissions while you are in safe mode.
Thanks for the reply.
I appear to be a bit different. 3dot menu has show system, sort by size and Reset app preferences.
Gear menu has Draw over apps. Unfortunately when I select Draw Over apps I find that all of the apps with the exception of a recently installed one are disabled.
My feeling is that I have had some time of File permissions SNFU that pretty much farked everything. At the moment I can not access files on a computer via usb and am not even able to read my SD directly from a computer.
Any suggestions on fixing hosed permissions or other would be extremely helpful.

Impex Android TV 4K Gloria 55 Help

Does anyone know how to root an Impex smart TV
Specs—————-
Shown below and attached.
A spec report generated by Droid Info application. It is attached below.
I have explicitly tried one click root apps and other methods with no avail. E.g Kingroot, Kingoroot etc.
I cannot use ADB because the default android settings app is blocked/removed replaced by a basic settings app with only 4 options.
I cannot grant any special settings or permissions.
I would like someone to help me find a way to access settings or help me root the tv so I can grant permissions to apps and remove some of the restrictions of impex on the tv.
I have noticed that the board or CPU manufacturer is Hisilicon, a branch of Huawei and I cannot find any way to bypass the default settings app or gain specific permissions.
Thanks from Keno
