Vibrate mode means vibrate for EVERY notification - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Has anyone else noticed that when in vibrate mode ALL notifications vibrate regardless of their app settings? It's rather annoying and previous phones weren't like this. My S7e still followed per app vibrate settings (eg mail app). On the s8+ i get a vibrate for every single email i receive regardless of the fact no vibration option is selected in the app.
Seems to be a bit of a bug....

[Q] Vibrate Issues?

I rooted my slide 2 days ago and put CyanogenMod7.1 on it and it's running great except now my phone doesn't vibrate when I get calls or notifications. My girlfriend has a G2 (running the Gingerbread update, not rooted) - and hers hasn't vibrated since she's gotten the phone. Is there a reason why its doing this or how to fix it?
You didn't mention if you did or not, so I have to ask - are the settings set to have it vibrate on notifications?
Check your Sound settings - there is a setting about vibrating there. You can have it always vibrate, never vibrate, only in silent mode, or only when not in silent mode.
Also, there are notification settings for different apps. For example, in the Messaging App's Settings you can tell it to vibrate or not. Also, you can have different notification settings for the Gmail app.

Text messaging (SMS) vibration not working

I searched but so far nothing helped.
I have had the phone for about a week and up until this morning the phone would always vibrate for a text and a call (even in silent mode) in which I had the settings. Starting today (this afternoon) I would only get vibration during a call and not a text. I checked the settings and it's still the same (VIBRATE on ALL in the main settings) and VIBRATE when receiving notifications for GOPROSMS.
What seems to be the problem? No matter what I do it won't vibrate during a text even after I restarted the phone, pulled the battery, etc.
Thanks
open both SMS apps
the stock SMS app, and the Go SMS app
verify each of their notification settings
nope still doesnt work
but I deleted GoProSMS and downloaded handcent SMS and now the vibration works even though all the settings in GOPROSMS were correct.
I looked it up and it seems that GOPROSMS was updated today, may that have caused the problem?
Same here, I have pretty much messed with all the settings and now after uninstalling go sms the notifications seem to still not work.
i'm using Go SMS as well, but it vibrates fine for me
I learned that vibrate does not work for me unless I leave haptic feedback on at maximum. the lower haptic feedback is, the weaker your vibrate..I usually don't like haptic feedback but it seems like it has to go hand and hand with vibrate.
that's explains why i didn't have the issue, i always have it on, to the max
and i always enable vibrate on any app that supports this feature
personally it makes the phone feel more realistic
it's probably an addition from the PS2 controllers with vibration

[Q] Gmail 4.2 not respecting vibrate setting?

My GNex is running 4.2 now, and I've noticed that when the phone is on silent, the phone vibrates when new gmail messages come in. If I check the settings, it specifically says "Never" under vibrate settings.
Has Google changed Gmail's vibrate behavior in 4.2 so that Never actually means Sometimes?
Can anyone confirm?
I hope this gets fixed!

Yes, I have the same issue, for both Gmail and Calendar
It vibrates in ALL notifications. Someone knows how to disable it?
Regards!
Just a hunch, but I tried it and it worked. If you don't care about not having any notification for gmail (sound or vibrate) then set the notification sound to silent and vibrate never. Unfortunately you won't get sound if you want that, but at least it's not vibrating now.

I want to keep the vibration on for stuff like text messages, just not email. When I'm at work I can read my email on my computer, so I turn my phone to vibrate so that it's not beeping all day long. With 4.2, I've replaced beeping with vibrating. It's very annoying.
Google, never means NEVER!

This works for gmail, but not the email app that I use for my work email.

I'm having the same issue, and it's very annoying. I want to keep the image in the notification bar, but I don't want it to vibrate - like I had before the 4.2 update. I even tried toggling the notifications off and on and toggling between "only on silent" and "Never," but it continues to vibrate. I only want my phone to vibrate for text messages/google voice messages.
There is at least one bug ticket raised for this.

Star it to get it some attention.
Possible solution
Possible solution, for those of you who usually only run between sound and vibrate mode on your phone. Just go into the gmail settings and toggle the vibrate to "only in silent mode" you won't get a vibrating notification...
That's what I just set mine to do.

This didn't work for me. Always vibrates when in vibrate mode no matter what I have set. Funny enough, when I set the phone to silent mode there is no vibration even when it is set to 'Only in silent mode'.
I just hope this is identified as a bug and wasn't done on purpose. It's going to be an annoying few weeks while I wait for another OTA.
Any update to this? I'm having the same problem with text messages vibrating.
Same issue here. I have a custom 4.2 ROM flashed with this problem. I even tried reverting back to stock and reflashing. That did not solve the problem.
Same problem for me with official 4.2 OTA update, on a yakju galaxy nexus
That's no GMail bug, unfortunately it's a new "feature" introduced in Android 4.2. If you ar looking at the commits in AOSP, you can see it is a new system wide sound-to-vibrate conversion feature.
If you change the phone to vibrate mode, all applications which are playing notification sounds are then vibrating. Genious!
It should be possible to deactivate vibration therefor if you disable the notification sound in the specific app.

I want to punch whoever made this "feature" in the face!

Apps with vibration off still vibrate..

I just got my Note 3 today and noticed that apps with vibration off still vibrate when notifications are received. Anyone else have this issue?
For those who might not understand what I mean:
When the phone is on vibrate mode, only the apps with vibration on are supposed to vibrate. However, the apps with vibration off are also vibrating.
I don't like this
Try to disable the vibration on the app itself and see what happens.
for me viber is doing this, even when set to silent I still have phone vibrate when receving messeges on viber and yes vibration is ticked off. I only fixed this via app info window>untick show notifications
Note 3 vibrate
I am having this same problem as well with my note 3. I have both my gmail and outlook app set not to vibrate, but when I put my phone on vibrate so it doesn't ring while I am at work my phone will still vibrate every time I get e-mail despite having vibrate un-check in both apps. It works fine when I have my volume on.
Now I can't turn vibrate off for notifications because I still need to be notified that I get text when my phone is on vibrate.
If anybody figures this out please do tell
Thanks,
An update on what I've discovered:
I took a guess that this might not be a bug but a feature (a really stupid one) and installed Android 4.3 leak on my old Note 2, which previously was on 4.1.2 and did not have this issue. On 4.3, it brings up this problem. Apps with vibration off will vibrate in vibrate mode. So I guess it is normal.. can anyone else with Android 4.3 on other devices confirm?
ALSO: The stock apps Email and Calendar do not do this. If vibrate is off, and the phone is in vibrate mode, then notifications from these apps won't vibrate.

Notification Vibrate Disabled if Ringer Set to Vibrate

Hi
About a month ago my phone stopped vibrating when I received SMS or whatsapp messages if my Ringer was set to vibrate.
Strangely, the option for notification vibrate becomes disabled or "greyed out" if i switch the ringer to 'vibrate'. (see pics)
It does vibrate just fine for a call- just not for notifications.
I am stock rooted, I was on 5.1.1 then updated to Marshmallow 6.0.1 -- no difference.
I've played with all the settings I can think of, with no help.
Any thoughts?
Apparently I'm not the only one, as I found this guy asking the identical question with a S6 edge on a different forum.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ion-vibrate-disabled-if-ringtone-vibrate.html
Nobody?
It's a strange glitch- no one has experienced a phone that vibrates fine for a call, but doesn't give the option to vibrate for a notification or text?
Some notification vibration settings must be set for that app. The screenshot you posted shows that notifications are set to vibrate.

Ah! Thank you so much for someone finally replying.
I must not have explained the screenshots correctly--- In the second screenshot-- I have set my RINGER to vibrate (as in for the phone).... and magically ALL NOTIFICATIONS GO SILENT (for every app and including SMS) -- not even vibrate--- and I lose the ability to change them to vibrate.
It used to be simple. Ringer set to ring, Notifications (whether for SMS, or any other app like calendar or whatsapp) would also ring. Ringer set to vibrate- notifications (again for all apps and SMS) would also go to vibrate.
Importantly I also would have control of the relative volumes/vibrations in both settings.
Now I only have that ability when the ringer is set to ring. If i set the ringer to VIBRATE--- then the notifications get totally silent-- -and are 'greyed out' so I can't change them.
It's weird.
Maybe I can't seem to explain it clearly, but I'm trying.
Thanks for the reply.
I am having the exact same issue. Have you ever figured out a solution?

Sorry for the delay.
The answer is .... sort of....
The graying out issue never resolved, but magically it DOES vibrate now with messages. Perhaps that started to work with one of the updates I've installed.
Still seems bizarre to me, but as long as the functionality returned... i guess that is good enough.
