Mi Max 3/32 hardbricked after installing MIUI 7.5.11 from xiaomi.eu - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

I have flashed the newest MIUI developer from here from TWRP 3.1 and after I selected reboot -> system
After that my phone turned off and now I can't turn it on. My Mi Max can't go neither recovery mode nor fastboot nor EDL. It became hardbrick. No reaction after connecting to PC with any possible combination of pressed keys.
What's wrong with my Max? Can I bring my phone to life?

I hade something similar with my redmi note 3. (IF I remember correctly, only hade a blinkning red light). Check Guides for redmi note 3, its a more popular device. maybe some of this will help you: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/help/hard-bricked-redmi-note-3-sd-t3360457
or google, might be info on another site, like miui.com

Probably you need to remove the remains from the old Recovery (Stock).

You are going to have to open your phone up.
First download and install the Mi Flash Tool. Install it.
Second download the latest STABLE Miui fastboot rom.
http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Untar the tarball somewhere.
Start the MiFlash tool and select the folder you untared

Open your Mi Max
http://www.ihowfix.com/xiaomi-mi-max-teardown/
Plug a good usb cable into your PC, then the other end part way but not fully into your Mi Max.
Find the two test points I circled in red in the picture, use a wire to short them. While you are doing that, have your computer ready.
Now, plug the usb cord all the way in and start clicking refresh in MiFlash
Your Mi Max should show up as id 2 device 09234f or whatever.
http://i.imgur.com/aC5S7Pt.png
Flash, and wait for the process to finish.
If your Mi Max doesn't show up, just unplug the usb cord, make sure you have those two points connected well, and replug. It's the hardest part and it can be difficult to do right.

@chriscarver
You are not allowed to unlock it officially ?
On the official forum is a form of treatment to the manufacturer to unlock the bootloader.
And what is the point in the wire, which until which the end not is inserted into, in the charging connector ?
The wire must be inserted with great speed or you'll perform the function of phase (+) current ?

But do you mean the firmware with a locked bootloader.
True ?

It is so chaotic as the success of his operation.

No.
He hard bricked his phone during a flash.
He already has an unlocked bootloader. He is unable to get to recovery or fastboot.
In order to fix it he will have to follow the procedure I gave.

Not the fact that its bootloader is unlocked.
Recovery can be installed with locked bootloader.
The remains of the old recovery to do errors .
You must delete them manually.

You're tired... I see it... just the first time I hear about hardbricked mi max.
Maybe this moment was worded differently and I'm trying to understand.
For example, it may be the need in "Hard Reset" the device.
You don't have to repeat, it is your personal right.

hmmm, where did you found form to request BL unlocking ?
I would need unlocking for bricked MAX 3 in this moment to sort it if possible without opening and testpoint

I think he solved his problem a long time ago, after receiving of the box a Recovery with the ability to Wipe-Data.

I sorted mine with testpoint method.

Device need not be having unlocked bootloader to have custom recovery and rom.
OP will have to short points on motherboard to boot it into edl mode and then flash it. There is a thread for unbricking hard bricked mi max. Its explained there as well.

Mi5s Plus bootloader unlock problem

Wondering if anyone is able to help me.
Recently purchased a MI5S Plus and having problems unlocking the bootloader. Followed all instructions and the unlock fails at 50% with the tool stating that "the account on the device is different than current account" (or something like that).
Now here's what I have done so far:
-made sure device and tool are using the same account with phone number login
-made sure "find device" is turned on and phone can be found
-disabled windows 10 driver signature
-enabled usb debugging on the device
-made sure sim card is in slot 1 of device
So far no dice. Phone is on Global Stable (8.0.1.0) but I wanted to move to EU version (which also has the correct UK locale and some other features). I am not new to the rom flashing scene (just moved from iOS to android and had a Galaxy S2 back in the day).
If anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. No idea what else to try.
Best regards

I think what this means is that your phone is associated to a mi account different than the one you have logged in to unlock it. Make sure your phone has the same mi account as the one you are using to unlock it.
Good luck!!

Hi, I will share some of my experience.
Myself had that problem too, bought mi5s plus on global 8.x.x and wanted to move to eu version . The problem with this phone is that there's no global dev rom for it just yet, and you can't officially flash the china dev rom, since the installer doesn't recognize the package. So you find yourself in kind of loop, like
==> to open bootloader you need dev rom (only china available) :/
==> to flash china dev rom via mi flash you need to get your phone to EDM ( Emergency Download Mode ) .
But to get to EDM you need open bootloader.
That's kinda sucks, but i kept looking over the internet and found the overall solution that will probably work on any xiaomi device. And that's to make "Deep flash cable". This cable let's you enter EDM ignoring the locked bootloader, this way you can flash the china dev rom, and from there open the bootloader.
The idea is really simple, just need to shortcut any of the middle connectors of the usb with the ground(the outter connector) when plugging the phone into the pc(don't even need to cut the original usb cable), that will prevent the phone from starting to charge and it will enter EDM (pure black screen without any sign of life, but pc will recognize it on COM port as long as you have qualcomm drivers installed.) In this mode the mi flash tool will recognize the phone and you can flash the china dev rom.
If you need more help just ask, and u can find some nice guides on youtube that explain how to make the cable. Good luck!

Thanks makslll, I have mi5s, wondering if the process is different?
I bought my phone with the xiaomi.eu rom (8.0.10.0 MAGCNDH), unlocked bootloader with "MiFlashUnlock_1.1.0317.1_en" and installed recovery following this (https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-12-1.36462/). After this I was able to install other ROMs .
Hope this helps

Main problem I'm getting at the moment is the fact I can't get past the 50% on the unlock process. Keeps giving me an account error on the Mi Flash unlock tool. Something like "Account on the device is different from current account".
In any case I was looking at this EDL solution but let me see if I grasped this:
-I can use EDL to bypass locked bootloader restrictions. Could I just flash the EU rom without unlocking the bootloader?
-That not being the case, I'm guessing I would need to flash something like China Dev and the try and unlock the bootloader followed by TWRP flash, etc etc.
If someone could shed any light on this that would be great.
Thanks in advance

Thanks will give this a bash later on after first trying to factory reset the phone.
Thing is I read about a lot of people being successful unlocking their bootloader on Global Stable rom, so no idea why I can't do it. Pretty sure I have all the necessary drivers and I'm following the process as it should. Still getting the account error.
Xiaomi should sort their **** out...
Thanks everyone for your help!

You can't flash Eu ROM with locked bootloader, since you need to use special image files of the supported roms for miflash (Can't use the .zip roms that we flash via recovery), and those available only for the official roms ( global stable, china stable, china dev).
So yeah, unfortunally this would take little longer, but i can assure you this method 100% works and it's not very hard once you've done the tricky thing with the deep flash cable =)

On another note, if a Global Dev rom is released for the Mi5S Plus, are you able to flash it as normal through the updater app?

Yes, on my gf's mi5 i just flashed global dev rom from the updater and unlocked it easy, they really should just remove the global <==> china barrier
Update: there is official Global Dev ROM available now, so no "deep flash cable" is needed anymore, just download the ROM, copy it to phone memory, and flash it via updater, good luck =)
So, quick update.
Managed to unlock bootloader last night by updating to the new Global Dev for the Mi5S Plus.
However a new problem has arisen, as usual. Using ADB, it recognises the phone whilst in normal mode with USB debugging on. The moment I reboot it into fastboot mode (to flash TWRP), it doesn't recognise it anymore. The drivers are installed as I disabled windows driver signature verification, but the phone is just not recognised anymore.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Virtually impossible to unlock bootloader

Guys, I need some help to confirm the only solution I found for my problem, or if I can still try other solutions.
I bought a Mi5s that already came from seller with the global stable rom. I asked the official bootloader unlock to Xiaomi and has received authorization by SMS. But the unlock application stucks at 50% saying that the device being unlocked is different from the one authorized on Mi account. I looked for some solutions like deleting all the devices in the page i.mi.com, leaving only the Mi5s, but I did not have success. Other solution is flash chinese developer rom
Another solution is to flash Chinese developer rom, to confirm unlock of the device on the developer screen and then to use the official tool unlock. But I didn't find any way to flash the developer rom. I've tried using Chinese PC Suite, fastboot mode, MiFlash, and all says that the rom I am trying to flash (Chinese) is different from the rom of the device (global).
The only solution I found is to buy a deep flash cable and flash the developer rom in EDL mode. Or hope to launch the global developer rom for Mi5s, which so far we have no prospect in the short term.
Do you suggest I try some other solution? Thanks in advance.

Already had done it, no success
From http://en.miui.com/thread-482266-1-1.html
Under settings/additional settings/developer options, click Mi unlock status. Click add account and device. Your device will now be automatically added to your Mi account.
Next, enable OEM unlocking and USB debugging under developer options.
Then connect your mobile to the pc or laptop while on fastboot mode. Unlock again. This time, it will be successful!
Same problem. Can't unlock my Mi 5S on Global Stable firmware (V8.0.3.0). And can't flash to China Developer firmware.

According to this:

You should have that parameter no matter you are at global or not, but if you don't you should flash a developer version, instruction at the same page.
Before you say "i can't flash developer rom", did you tried the updater app to flash it?
Force flash your rom using special cable to enter fastboot to install. I dont know its detail, but the installation called Deep Flash using deep flash cable sold on ebay

I had similar problems and I was also trying to figure out what to do to unlock bootloader on Global stable rom. The amount of people having the same problem where unlocking app stops at 50% is overwhelming ,judging from the comments found on google, but the info what is the actual problem is next to none. Suggested solutions looks to me like voodoo and most if not all probably doesn't have any impact on successful unlocking. As the Xiaomi unlock app is just a wrapper for fastboot executable I've checked what kind of commands are being send to the fastboot when you click unlock here they are.
fastboot getvar product
fastboot getvar soc-id
fastboot getvar soc_id
fastboot getvar board_version
So I've checked if I will actually get any info from bootloader if I send those commands manually, and with no surprise I didn't get any. So this was the problem at least in my case. Some kind of connection problem I'm not sure where exactly the fault is, probably drivers but try to issue those commands manually from command line I can bet you will not get any info from the phone. What to do if that's the case remove and reinstall drivers, this is what has worked for me. Good luck
Had the same problem. Got it solved today. the bad news you need a deep flashing cable, good news you can make it yourself.
Here is the guide:

I have unlocked 4 mi phones with no difficulty. Some of them with fake/seller ROM. Once you got permission make sure you have done all things right before preceding to Unlock. Usually it's all about loading the right driver for Xiaomi phone. Using default windows driver is not working. As it's not Microsoft signed driver you have to start windows in insecure mode.
You have to login in your mi account both on PC and on phone with SIM card ind.
Check that phone is verified settings/mi account on your phone.
Best luck
Something is with drivers for your phone. I have the same problem...than i delete drivers and than they automaticly reinstall and evarything works.

Follow the guide that I posted to make the cable(first link), install all the drivers and software needed (second link).
After successfully putting the phone in deep flash mode you need to update Qualcomm drivers (under device manager it must appear as com3 or com10 port after that).
Then use Mi Flash tool to flash Chinese dev rom (http ://bigota.d.miui.com/7.1.20/miui_MI5S_7.1.20_229fa68558_6.0.zip). If the flash fails the first time reboot the computer and try again.
After that sync connect your MI account to the device, enter Dev mode and you will find OEM Unlock option.
Not easy but it works.
Good Luck!

Good luck

Best luck

Good Luck!

I tried all the possibilities described, that do not need flash developer rom using a deep flash cable. I changed drivers and everything, no success.
In time, I already ordered a deep flash cable here in Brazil. For my part, I thank all fellas who tried to help me but gave up trying anything else. As the title of the topic, my device is currently virtually impossible to unlock in the normal way.

I have same problem to unlock Mi5s before but then realize that you need to update driver on your PC from Keadcom (or samething) into Marshall London Bootloader and it success.
Now my Mi5s uncloked officially.
I just use same Mi account which has permission to unlock my previous device which is Mi5.
No need deep flash cable, just normal cable can do.
Hope this help.

Thanks you very much!
Unfortunately this this did not help. My assumption is that 8.0.3.0. Global stable needs ROM-internal permissions, which are currently missing. (In fastboot mode ADB is able to communicate to the phone, so it is not a driver issue.)

No it doesn't mean it will work with Mi Unlock tool. It is some time ago I have guided one on this forum trough procedure and he succeeded at least. Read his experience: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...king-beast-t3416088/post67695482#post67695482

Bootloop and unable to reflash stock ROM

Hello,
I have a Redmi Note 8 pro (China version). I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the Global ROM. Unfortunately, the phone didn't reboot and it is now stuck with message "this ROM can't be installed on this device".
I realized afterwards that many other users had the same problem. Now it is impossible to flash the chinese Rom again (I get the CRCLIST flash error).
I believe my only option now is to re-flash the China stock ROM using the EDL method and an authorized Xiaomi Account. Can anyone help me do that?
If anybody has other suggestions, that would be really helpul.
You may flashed lower version of miui. If you can enter into fastboot mode, flash with latest China miui, then install TWRP, then use TWRP to flash global rom. I used twrp here and it works for my china phone, now im on global rom.
Just my 2 cents:
1. Always flash stock ROM via fastboot. ALWAYS use option "clean all". NEVER use option "clean all and lock"
2. Make sure the ROM's folder path is not containing space characters. Several stupid errors can come from this.
Ex: C:/this_is_the_rom_path
3. Use USB2.0 port from your PC. Better plug the device into USB2.0 rear port.
I couldn't make any of my USB front ports to work. Only the USB2.0 rear port.

Unfortunately I believe that's precisely the mistake I made... Now the bootloader is locked again and I cannot unlock another time because I have no access to the phone. Mi Unlock Tool says "please add your account in developer options > Mi Unlock Status".
What happens next then?

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I believe the bootloader is locked again now. I can put the phone in fastboot mode, but I cannot flash anything (not allowed in locked state).
If anyone knows how to flash with EDL method... But of course we would need an authorized account to do that.

I remember mi unlock tool will work in fastboot mode. I recommend you to use mi unlock tool which you used first time to try in fastboot mode. It may say: you need to wait xxx hours, then you have to wait. Or it may unlock directly like first time. Since you unlocked first time, it will be bounded into your Mi account already.
If you have fastboot mode available, do NOT too worried, more likely to you have it back. using SP Flash tool with paid auth account is last step.
Could you fix it?

i have the same issue of not able to get into recovery but able to go into fastboot while trying to boot normally just gets stuck at logo phone is able to charge. Showed to a local repair shop who says its a power ic issue searched web where someone mentioned about issue w flash memory (this was for some samsung phone not sure if it applies to mi). I have no clue does anyone know how i can eliminate some of my doubs step by step?
1. I think it may be my power/volume button strip but i dont know how can i test thee device without the strip (i have some schematics) .
2. Maybe Rom issue and since bootloader is locked and no usb debugging enabled nor i can unlock it using official tool since it requires me to go to developer settings and link my mi account i cant flash anything (though i came across some posts claiming you can bypass edl authorization using 2017-18 flash tools and anti5 test i dont have a clue as to what to do).
3. due to recent conflicts i cannot access mi india forums and nor can download proper official stock rom( since its my relatives phone i dont know what version it was on )
4. the phone was dropped previously which cracked the glass but was in working condition for more than 3-4 months atleast .Cant find any trace of water damage inside.
5. got some schematics from web by searching here and there but i dont know how to troubleshoot lol.
Any help would be appreciated , i cannot trust local technicians as there have been past incidences of missing parts from device after they keep for a day and return next day(skeptical if there are some parts missing or replaced w defective ones ).
Will update if i get it working.

Question Bootloop to fastboot logo and back in lock state

Hi everybody,
yesterday I tried flashing the stock pocof3 rom back onto my phone, but since it got stuck in a bootloop at the fastboot logo. Showing the poco logo for a milisecond and then straight to fastboot..
(before this I flashed twrp and the arrowOS recovery and images a few time trying, without succes, to install this rom)
Last thing I did was flash via the mi-flash tool and did't see the "clean and lock" selection so it's also in lock state again.
I cant get adb to find the phone although the mi-flashtool is finding it.
anyone any tips?
I tried the vol up power trick, but this didn't help, keeps loading into fastboot

I'm not sure, but you may still be able to flash official ROMs.
But in "Configuration" make sure Erase is disabled

BAD NEWS... your Poco is bricked. You cannot flash ANYTHING using a PC when your bootloader is locked.
(I did same thing on a Mi11 5g last week and ended up selling it on eBay for spare & repairs
I tried sideload flash, miflash, copying update.zip to internal storage via ADB, and many other options - all without success).
- if your POCO is under warranty in your country (i.e. not a chinese import)... contact Xiaomi Support they can re-flash correct ROM
- Ask your local phone repair store... they *might* be able to flash original ROM back by using "Chimera" engineering software.

this doesn't seem to be an option. there is a checkbox with "erase all" but all are already unchecked

- Bootloader was re-locked whilst a custom ROM was in the phone.
(MIUI with Locked bootloader will not boot up where ROM is not stock or does not match the region/product code).
You cannot apply for bootoader unlock because you cannot boot up into Android and request the unlock via Developer mode.
You cannot remotely (via PC cable) flash any ROM into a Xiaomi / POCO phone whilst botloader is locked.
You are in a chicken and egg situation.,,, but if you find a way to repair your phone, please let us know how you achieved it.
Good luck!
If the system hasn't booted up yet there is a chance that you will be able to unlock bootloader again. Try it.

That's what I'm thinking too ...
Connect the phone to pc and do the bootloader unlock again via the mi unlock app - you don't need to apply again and stuff as long as you're able to recognise the phone inside app correctly

thanks everyone for all the replies!
tried unlocking it via the mi unlock tool (latest) but it says (in chinese) its locked by nr 123***456 by searching the phone - can't unlock
edit:
google lens translates:
X The phone has been locked by the account number 661****647 by searching the phone, Can't unlock
but it's not the nr. of my account..

Is it not even possible to flash Official ROMs?
Isn't there like a system that it checks the signature of the ROM and if it's a signed ROM it allows the flash? Or am I mistaken?

Nope bootload locked = no 'remote' flashes via pc
Apparently there is an 'authenticated user' mode for Xiaomi engineers in MiFlaah and also an EDL Emergency Download Mode which you can trigger by shorting out 2 pins on the motherboard so bypass bootloader lock and flash any ROM
Neither were available options for me

I'm now in the procedure to sent it back under warranty. any idea if this is possible and what the cost would be if not under warranty?
If all fails i'll try the shorting by pins, should be interesting
I think a warranty repair claim is your best bet ... I have never read anywhere that unlocking bootloader invalidates Xiaomi warranty (Unlike Samsung and so many other brands!)
If warranty repair is re refused try a few independent repair shops
Last resort is get the back cover off the phone and short out the EDL pins
Good luck!
