The fingerprint scanner stopped working or just dissapeared - Sprint LG G5 Questions & Answers

I am using lgls992 unlocked version and it was working fine..but suddenly the fingerprint stopped working showing a message that unable to use fingerprints restart your phone and when i restarted guess what happened.. There is no such thing like fingerprint sensor in my phone.. The option in settings that show fingerprints and security is now just security and the other 3rd party apps are also not detecting it..
Also the other options like knock code and patteren lock are greyed out saying may be disabled by administrator
Software version lgls992zv9
Baseband version nrd90u

Check Settings > Security > Phone Administrators. Are there any apps there enabled that may be interfering with these settings? Try disabling them and restarting.

Thank you for your reply but thats not all what i did before posting..but no luck..
But i figured it out.. after some research i found out that the lg is a crap company and the power button and the fingerprint scanner has a loose connection meaning the hardware just popped out in my case..
I tried tapping the phone from back and the power button and restarted the phone and it started working again..
Hope this might help someone else in future..

This literally just happened to me. I went straight to the forum to try and figure it out.

I smacked the crap out of it and now it works. Just like the gps. I'm so sick of this phone.

I wasted a few bucks on Amazon and put a new sensor. Actually held up better than the oem button...go figure....but
Get ready for bootloops....
9-10 months in and mine is done. Had to buy a Moto g5 plus.....much better phone than the g5. Lacks a few things but....is way cheaper and so much better.

Crazy Touch Screen Not Responding Bugs with my G3

So most of us know about the System UI crash when using Chromecast, but this is even stranger. [Edit: an OTA update fixed this.] Some times, when I wake my phone up at the lockscreen or at times in the middle of a call - the touch screen stops responding. I can press and/or hold the volume buttons and there is a response on screen but I can not interact with the phone at that point. I can't continue to do battery pulls everytime. This is crazy. I'm on stock software. No crazy mods or anything. I've done a reset in the past and flashed the stock package again but this still happens every few hours. Only happens when the screen just wakes up...
Edit: This is a confirmed fix for me.
If you face the same issue, try:
open dialer
press 3845#* INSERT THREE DIGETS OF YOUR MODEL NUMBER THE PRESS #, for example, I am the F400K, so 3845#*400#
Hardware Device Test > Touch
update touch firmware
touch firmware version
wait 10 sec
reboot
I would say there is a misbehaving app causing the phone to lag in wake (that is all the unresponsiveness will be, extreme lag).
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
@Lennyuk - tried for over 30minutes after leaving it alone, I doubt it's a delay... Battery pulls work, but that's not the point.

That was not his point.....to Find the app that is causing it go one by one uninstalling until you find it.... Something probably to do with app and the screen

Totally agree with @Epix4G on this one. I am assuming you had a korean variant? The SK Telecom stock image is pretty ugly. Took me 3 debloat attempts before I had it behaving the way I wanted it to, but before I debloated, I had some lag issues (SK Telecom... grrrhhh).
Historically, Korean carriers (much like AT&T and Verizon) love putting useless junk on the phones for "productivity" but really they are there to charge Korean users more for other services, etc.
If you haven't done so, I would root and debloat, and see how big of a difference it makes (absolutely amazing performance after debloating on my F400S).
^^^^ - Will take that into consideration.
This may be a possible fix for now, can't yet confirm
open dialer
press 3845#* INSERT THREE DIGETS OF YOUR MODEL NUMBER THE PRESS #, for example, I am the F400K, so 3845#*400#
Hardware Device Test > Touch
update touch firmware
touch firmware version

reboot
It may or may not help
EDIT: It's been a few weeks and I haven't had this issue again. Usually every 4-6 hours it used to happen after powering on the screen, but so far so good.
Tried that with 855 version, it's not working. This is REALLY depressing as i just got a new phone and from day one i'm having this problem. I just can't believe LG screwed up like this, and there's no mention of this anywhere online other than this XDA thread. I hope i don't have to root and install custom rom as this really defeats the purpose of the phone.
@deedscreen
I'm having exactly the same problem on an 850 and tried your firmware method. The version number of the firmware did not change after reboot.
ic_fw_version info
SYnaptics 5.5
PanelType 1
version: v1.22
IC_product_id[PLG313]
Touch IC : s3528(family_id = 1, fw_rev = 1)
What version is your firmware? Also, did you find out about the fix from somewhere?
I have the F400K, but just got a US T-Mobile edition, (I'll eventually switch my signature). I would honestly suggest waiting for an OTA update. Call LG so they can document this. If that touchscreen update method doesn't work, I'm not sure what to do. I found the method somewhere online, I don't recall where exactly. If someone can figure out how to side load the touch screen firmware from a working Korean model to others, that would be great. For now, keep calling LG. It won't do much at first, but at least they'll have reports of this issue.
I have (RAW) touch screen firmware version: 30 05 51 96
Same problem, but not only on lock screen
Since 5 days I have my G3 (855 Modell). I was happy the first two days, then I discovered the problem, that the device is always unlocking itself, when in my front pocket. It's because of the Knock on feature. I deactivated this now.
But since yesterday i have the same issue: three times, i was unable to unlock my phone. The touchscreen simply did not respond. I had to remove battery. Today, I read this post and tried the firmware update of the touch, but I have the impression it did not change something in the version.
After this, today I had again once time the non responding touch while unlocking and shortly after, I had the issue after ending a phone call! The touch did no longer respond and had to remove the battery again!
I hope this is not a hardware issue, otherwise I will hurry up to the seller to exchange the phone, because its only 5 days old.
This is happening when the screen is on right? Or is the screen turning off and then not turning I again?
You need to keep Knock feature on, someone already said this. That's why your screen is freezing.

Upps, yes, I just read this message now. To late: I was in the shop now and got mine exchanged. Anyway, that issue with the knock on feature should be solved also by LG: it's not acceptable, that the phone is always unlocking in my pocket. But then I wait with deactivating knock on for the moment.
So bad: such a good phone and such an annoying bug

I sold mine after a few days, i was sick with it. I disabled the knock feature through the hidden menu only to have the screen freeze every day. What, i can't use the phone the way i like? I have to face the screen outwards in my pocket and risk damaging it? Screw that...
That, plus the overheating and horrible build quality (back got scratched in my pocket) was a deal breaker for me...

Yes, indeed i also think about it. I got an official statement from support, regarding that the phone is unlocking all the time by itself in my pocket. They told me stuff like:
- this is a normal behaviour and can happen (!!)
- don't put your phone in the front pocket
- use the quick circle case to prevent...
- disable knock on (which is at least not possible over a standard setting, but only via the hidden menu).
I wrote back:
- that for me, this is not a normal behaviour
- that 90% of male users are wearing the phone in the front pocket
- that I don't like to buy a case only to prevent a bug of a premium telephone and
- finally, that they please could tell me, where and how to disable knock on
I am curious about their answer...
Good luck with that, disabling it through the settings doesn't change anything and they probably won't have a fix for months. They'll probably fix it though Android L update which will sadly come 6 months from official release at least.
Next time i purchase an Android phone i'm going with Nexus line...

So what happened? How is it doing now?
Hey everyone, I just wanted to report my results of this touchscreen bug.
Well, I've only had my D851 for a week now. Of course I rooted it the same day I received it.
I had no touch issues until after restoring apps with Titanium Backup. I'd restore all user apps, then very few system app via XML. Since I just upgraded from a Galaxy S3 T999 I limited the system apps greatly. So much in fact that I only restored 1 system app......Media Storage 4.4.4 (Playlist). THAT WAS MY SCREEN KILLER!
The media scan on my D851 would render my screen unresponsive. I could only hold the power button and click power off or restart or whatever else was on that power menu. Then the phone would reboot after minutes of of a dead screen.
I flashed back to stock and reproduced the same issue. So now I've been running this device for 3 days without any screen lockups. I just have to rebuild my playlist again LOL.
I hope this helps someone here.
Knock
If you turn off the ability to wake by knocking the screen, it causes this issue where the screen locks. Turn it back on and the problem seems to go away.
I think LG really has to deal with this issue.
Hi guys, I have red a lot about this issue but I'm still confused with my LG G3 855.
First I realize problem with unlocking the phone using double click. Tried to upgrade touch software firmware using hidden menu and the screen became almost totally unresponsive. Tried to re-flash original 5.0 and 4.4.2, factory reset, battery removed, etc. but no luck.
I'm wonder if this is a software problem or became hardware. Should I consider replacing display or problem is in motherboard?
I really don't know what to do! Appreciate any comments or suggestions!!!
Thanks in advance!

Unresponsive and Crazy touchscreen

Received my phone yesterday, and when I was browsing it , the screen went crazy, and unresponsive. did a factory reset and the problem still persisted. Opened a return request at amazon so they can send me a new one. Don't know if anyone had the same issue or it was just me. Here is a video
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12983778/VID_20150527_213832648.mp4
Please check if TalkBack is enabled. If this setting is enabled, the touch screen may behave differently and appear to be defective. Instead of one tap to open an item, you will need to tap once until it highlights with a green box around the selection, then double tap to open. Also when swiping it may require using two fingers instead of one. You may also be hearing voice prompts to every action made.
To disable go to Apps/Settings/Accessibility/Talkback - turn off.

Same problem
Hi,
I had the same issue! I getback the phone in guarantee to Taiwán. The seller says that the phone was repairde, the display was changed.... finally 2 weeks ago I reicived the Zenphone 2 (1.5moths since the deal). Now today the phone have the same issue, I try to clean the dipslay phone and suddenly the touch screen have the same issue, crazy and unresponsive screen!! I very frustaded about the ASUS Brand! tell me what's happened with your phone?
thanks

Try to delete user data, then factory reset and then wipe cache. If after this you're still in trouble simply use warranty:hardware problem, asus fault.
You must use 2 fingers when you type to get through the setup. I know its a pain but when you are able to get in, turn "TalkBack" off.
I bought a zenfone 2 64gb on amazon and I had the same random issues: unresponsive touch screen, unsensitive, ghost touches.
I guessed that it could be the screen protector but it was still happening after remove it.
So, I asked to amazon a replacement.
After a perfect week, I am starting to have the issues, again!
I sold my oneples one to avoid touch screen issues. I am very upset!
I'm having the same issue as you guys. I also noticed that cleaning the screen with a rag (especially the one for glasses) makes the touch screen go crazy. At first i tried to downgrade the firmware, unluckily i had the issue again. Then i upgraded the firmware from the phone and now it's all going apparently well. I'll update for any news.

Please let us know if you have any answer, it is getting very annoying, thanks.
To anyone who have this issue: Try to test touch screen by SMMI's test option. Open calculator, type ",12345+" (with the comma), then "=" (equals). SMMI menu will show up. Now "single test", then "touch test".
In my case this process gives a straight line of unwanted touch inputs in the upper region of the screen ( sometimes multiple dots in a row forming a complete straight line). Do you guys have the same result?

It's a software related problem.. Because we're a lot of ppl suffering this problem. But, don't know why, ASUS is ignoring us.
I have sent my phone for repair. They say that they will replace the whole display.
Hi guys. I have almost identical issue and this seems like a hardware fault. I sold the Zenfone 2 to a friend and after 2 months she complains about the unresponsive touchscreen only at the top of the display..... I have the phone with me now, trying to fix it.. Did a factory reset, firmware upgrade, no results. Definitely a hardware issue and it is seems that lots of people are affected. So dissapointed by Asus......
If it's a hardware issue why is it so many people experiencing this now together all in the same time? Not earlier not later? My guess will be software problem. But I'm not sure
Any of you guys have a microsd card installed?

Hey everyone, thank you so much for sharing with me. I'll forward this to our service team. Sorry been away..it's Thanksgiving week here in the US...so I'll get to this on Monday!

display timeout not working

My display does not timeout and it might be related to something to do with the asus cover detection. Kills my battery because if some notification or alert happens to turn on the screen after I maually turned it off, it will not timeout again.
Howerver, I don't have a cover or anything but having this bizarre issue when the asus cover option is turned on my display constantly but sporadically flashes off and on. If the asus cover option is unchecked/disabled then the phone SEEMS to work normally until I get a call. The proximity kicks in but then the display turns itself back on. I installed sensor box and the proximity seems to work just fine -- nothing errant. Same applies for all the other sensors including the magnometer which does 35uT which seems right for my part of the world.
Did factory resets, cleared cache partitions, reinstalled stock roms etc... toggled the display timeout settings etc..nothing there.
Finally installed bettery battery stats and checked adb so it seems like some process is going crazy but I'm not sure if this is normal behaviour for the device or not.
But if its a rogue process anyone know how to kill it or whatever?
Attached is screenshot from battery stats and logcat

Could you try uninstalling ASUS Cover to see if that makes any difference, or just disable the app? If it happens again, after uninstalling, you can rule it out.
I tried that before, still same thing. I also got a very strong magnet to see if I could somehow recalibrate the magnetic sensor in case that's what the cover uses for detection. That didn't seem to work. Sensor box shows the proximity and magentic sensor seem to be operating normally though....

That seems very strange. Let me forward the issue to our service team to see if they can assist!
---------- Post added at 10:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:43 AM ----------
Here is the response from our customer service team:
Does the customer have a screen protector (Not a flip cover) that may hinder the proximity sensor’s accuracy?
Does the customer have the latest firmware WW-(V2.20.40.90_20150903_4959). To update FW/Build connect to wifi, go under APPS-SETTINGS-ABOUT-SYSTEM UPDATE make sure battery is >50% before updating.
There is a patch on our latest builds/FW for Asus Cover app that fixes stability.
Some things to also try – Wipe Cache and recovery to retest it from our FAQ - https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1006346
If these do not work ask for a screenshot for the build number if you can for us to look deeper into. VOL_DOWN + POWER BUTTON simultaneously take a screenshot under APPS-SETTINGS-ABOUT-SOFTWARE INFORMATION
will try suggestions...
@ASUS_Khang
Man thanks for your help with this.
I do have a screen protector but the aperature is pretty large so I doubt that's interferring. However, I get the same screen flashing off and on when I'm on an active call which would suggest some proximity type issue. SensorBox would suggest the prox sensor is working fine though
I'll update my firmware again after a factory reset just in case the most recent build corrects something.
Thanks again for your help though! I'll report back :fingers-crossed:

Hey guys, I am facing same problem with my Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML. My screen doesn't get timed out automatically. At first it started with Asus Cover, I was not using the cover but screen was getting on - off itself. Proximity sensor doesn't work properly and screen doesn't get timed out by itself. I have disabled the Asus Cover option from Settings but still Screen timeout not working.
Did anything worked here?
@ASUS_Khang Do you know what can fix my problem?
Bought ZenFone 2 ZE551ML a couple months ago and the screen protector and case from Asus all at the same time. Asus cover turned itself on and I have had problems since then. I do not own or use the asus cover. When this happened, I turned asus cover off and since then, can not make or receive calls. I cleaned the cache, did a factory reset, and removed the screen protector. None of these "fixes" worked. I can make a call but then the screen freezes after 2 pulsations and restarts into a boot loop. I see incoming calls but can not answer them because the phone freezes and restarts. No sound heard during calls for outgoing and incoming calls. Everything is updated already!!!
Same problem here. is this issue have been solved? how? thanks in advance...

My workaround involved getting xposed framework and installing a module called magnet off. In essence it disables the hal sensor which was likely damaged somehow. So flip cover is disabled and my screen times out properly.
Can you explain how you installed it plz step by step I am also facing same problem p

Could you have interfering software? Also when you say factory reset do you really mean factor reset or just reboot?
Hi,
I have recently started facing the same issue. I have been using this watch for 6 months but since yesterday it has been turning the screen off after 5-10 seconds (even if AlwaysOn is marked as On). It worked on the same watch face perfectly fine till a few days back. I don't think any software updates were pushed recently. Haven't tried a factory reset yet but changed watch faces and didn't work.
Also I'm in the same boat as @getchethanbr, bought this watch in the US and am now in India.
EDIT: Last I remember that I was running low on batter two says back and the watch gave an option of Batter Saver (OR Boost) and I turned it ON. Now I can't find the setting. May be that is the one turning off screen to save battery. Does any one remember such a setting?

I think my case is suspiciously similar to http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-watch/help/watch-stuck-battery-saver-mode-t3344409. If I find a solution to it, I will post back.
Look in the watch developer options for the Ambient enabled/disabled setting.
It looks like this problem already figured out, but read in that other thread that you have to drain battery until you see the 'battery saver card' again and swipe over to 'disable' ... someone in other thread mentioned this toggle option probably left out by accident in an update

Same here! All of a sudden my screen goes crazy, as if three fingers are touching the screen at the same time. Quick fix: restart the phone.
I waited reporting the issue to see if more people have it, or it is just my phone.
Hmmm... now that I think about it, I better wait rooting the phone and tripping Knox in case of fixing this problem under warranty...
Same problem on my phone. I have a glass screen protector, I thought maybe it's because of the screen protector. Sometimes locking and unlocking the phone also solves it for me.
I also have a glass screen protector, but I experienced the problem also without protection, since I applied the screen protector a day later.
Locking and unlocking the phone seems to "solve" it as well indeed.
Hmmm... seems we got an issue here, Samsung!
I have also addressed this topic to the online shop I bought the phone.
Ghost touches did happen to me during the first three or four days after purchase. Now however, they are completely gone.
I've had this happen to me two times in three days on two different A70's (one time on each phone). Most likely software issue.
yes me too, i can't even type fast bcs it will trigger a ghost touch between the two alphabets i'm trying to type, feels like an old man for typing slowly lol

Give it a few days. Restart your device every other day and press the malfunctioning spots on the display a little harder. It worked for me.

I must say the ghost touches are much less after using the phone for a while. I also just tried your tip, and hope it will be completely gone now!

I'm also having the same issue. Tried the 1st solution. (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a70/help/ghost-touch-t3927693/post79538651#post79538651). However my phone didnt restart automatically so I restarted manually. I'll update the results. Thanks a lot.
Got a software update this morning which seems to have fixed it. At least I got to type this comment faster
guys, I don't know if it's a "ghost touch", but if I get my finger really close to the display it acts as if I touched it on that spot - but I don't feel like I've touched the screen at all... is it really sensitive or is this the ghost touch issue?
