Android Multi User on LG G4 - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I might have made a big mistake. I am currently using Pixel XL as my daily driver for a couple months. My girlfriend broke her iphone and needed a replacement for a couple days so without thinking I picked up my old LG g4 and set a new account to gave it to her. Because, well I was trying to be a good boyfriend, but I didn't think it through. That phone is filled with *cough* *cough* Sensitive pictures and videos in the gallery and in the hide it pro app that could compromise the entire relationship. I have been freaking about this for an hour and so and I need help. I opened another account on my pixel and couldn't see my pictures, which was reassuring, but I can't stop but thinking that it's not the case with the LG can you guys check it for me so I can have a plan of action. PS she has really limited knowledge of the android ecosystem and any sort of technology in general.
PS** The main account is password protected and she doesn't know the passcode. PS*** The only think I can think of to keep her from seeing them is factory resetting the phone remotely which I am not willing to do without absolute proof.

From expierience hide it pro changes the file name extensions so no other app sees them. I feel ya brother. The g4 should nativly support multi user. Why not tell her u need it do get some old downloads or backups off it and either wipe the hide it pro app or transfer the files real quick to anther sd card and delete.
Lol i guess i should say tsk tsk bad morals shouldnt be hiding stuff but i know how it it my wife is a evil evil woman sometimes i love her to death. But even the sight of a webpage or something. Like we dont watch american pie movies in our house because she throw a fit when a set of naked titties are on the tv. So i just gave it up dont even try anymore lol.
Now my wife managed to find out what hide it pro was found where the files are saved too so i couldnt even use it anymore if i wanted to

Or something along that line. Or trying to shut down the bootloopable cores hell of she wasnt around when u got the g4 u got it used or somethin. Unless theyre pics of u in it

Well, you are right with the hide it pro app but my main concern is the gallery app. If you currently have a LG G4 on hand would you please create another user and check if the pictures in the gallery are shared or not it is kind of vital and I can't see her until tomorrow so I can't do things you suggested and I kinda need to know to sleep comfortably at night.

Okay I will be waiting, and thanks for the trouble you took. BTW my g4 is almost 2 years old as well but LG makes sturdy phones that keep working unless constant abuse

Multiple users are handled like this in Android:
Each user has its own internal storage path.
E.g. /data/media/0 is the first user path always.
When you add another user he/she will get /data/media/10 or 1 or whatever the ROM says.
The result:
Each user can have its OWN pic gallery and apps
So a new user will not see any pics from the other user in the gallery... As long as no app get installed which accesses e.g. all pics on the external sd...!
Keep in mind that every user has in general full access to the device. Means:
When the second user installs an advanced file explorer he/she could navigate to the folder of the first user and access all folders from him!
When the gallery app scans the whole system you cannot be sure it will not find all..
So at the end the android multi user concept is not a full protection between the both accounts. Well as long as the second one is not a GUEST account.
So.. at the end you're not safe.

City ID... Can we remove it?

I saw that too and wasn't happy. I hate to have to root my phone and image it just to get rid of that application. It hasn't asked again since the first time. Hopefully it wont ask again!

Its not verizon i had it on my alltel touch pro and i think it just puts the city name when someone you don't know calls you. It never stopped doing that for me after the trial was up and it never popped up saying i need to pay. So it might just be an extra icon you have ti live with.
It is defiantly always running in the background!

Just because it isn't exclusive to Verizon, doesn't mean its not crappy bloatware.
+1 on getting rid of this when root is achieved.
I'm new to Android to so I apologize if this is totally out there. CityID is part of the ROM so it is protected. But I imagine that Cequint must be able to push out an update for CityID or their libraries from time to time.
What if we made our own version of CityID with the same manifest that did nothing and installed it using "Unknown sources"? Would Android see our newer version and use that instead?
Is this possible or do we need to wait for root access?
If you ForceClose it the trial returns to 15 days LOL.
There are some reverse lookup apps that show the name of the caller. Skydeck is well reviewed and I'm testing it.
When my trial period ended it asked if I wanted to keep my subscription and I hit no. It then allowed me to uninstall. Has anyone else had this happen for them?

Ok my free trial ran out last night, but this lame excuse of a program still runs for no reason, but to spy on my phone.
I was not able to remove the program.
This is a good reason to root this phone.
Ok so im new here and im new to the smartphone user crowd but I am pretty good with computers and think I may have found a way to remove City ID (and any other apps preloaded or not) from the Incredible. I was playing around last night and found an "Uninstall" button for City ID but I being a new user to Smartphones and honestly not yet willing to destroy my baby hehe was afraid to press it. Anyways for those (if any) of you out there are willing to try it and see what happens (im not held liable for anything if it goes wrong this is strictly your decision)..here is how you find the button:
1) Enter Astro File Manager (by default it takes you to your SD Card)
2)Hit the "UP" button, it will take you to your phone storage directory.
3)Choose the "System" folder.
4)Choose the "app" folder.
5)Scroll to "City ID". Click on it.
6)Choose "Open App Manager".
7)Voila..there is your button.
Please post if this works..alongside with any side effects etc..it would be greatly appreciated. Hope this helps someone.
Also posted this on XDA-Developers. Look there for replies too if it works. i sure hope so anyways. Search "City ID... how do you uninstall?".
EDIT: Also posted this on androidforums.com. Look there for replies too if it works. i sure hope so anyways. Search "City ID... how do you uninstall?".
No, it doesn't work. We have root now, so you can uninstall it. Someone posted directions somewhere. You just use the rm command from the terminal.
With this removed, do you still get city/state information (I imagine you would as Verizon advertises "Caller ID" as one of it's services). Was this just some moot/redundant app left in to try and make some money off of suckers?

Caller ID is name and phone number.
The translation from phone number to City/State is what CityID does. When removed, there is no display of City/State, but you still get Name and Phone number. As the translation of phone number to City/State for mobile phones is patented by the makers of CityID, Verizon can't provide that service without using the CityID application.

Child locks?

I picked up a Samsung Epic for my daughter who is 6, has helped her a ton with reading and spelling by the excitement of sending and receiving text messages from some family members.
On her phone I would like her to be able to access select items that I create widgets or short cuts too on her screens, however I would like her to not be able to access any "settings", market or any app I haven't set on her desktop.
Anyone know a great app to do this with?
The apps that I have on her desktop are:
Phone/Contacts/Messaging
Camera/Gallery
My Coffee Card (widget)
Picture Frame (widget)
Zoodles
Chess
Pure Weather Widget
Pure Calendar Widget
and a Flash light widget.
She quickly figured out the phone, how to work the market, change her wall paper, change her ring tones and most everything else..Would just like to limit her access and use of the device.
Thanks a ton!

http://www.appbrain.com/app/toddler-lock/marcone.toddlerlock
Thanks for the links, but not really what I am looking for. More of something that won't let her create any short cuts or widgets, not not access any settings and not be able to open the app drawer without a code.
Something like this might not be present yet, however I think it is something many parents would pay for.
You could try using a custom launcher for example adw launcher
U can place whatever u want on the desktop and there's a "lock desktop" option so nothing can change wich can b found by pressing menu on the homescreen
And then u can go to the adw settings > general behavior > system prefences. And over there u can uncheck any option u don't want to show up on the menu button so uncheck "lock screen" so it won't show up and ur daughter won't b able to unlock the homescreens to change stuff
Also u may creat a category for the app drawer and remove any apps u don't want her to open so it will only show the ones you chose to show up
And I guess that will solve ur problem..?

I have to agree. We considered it for a while, the pros and cons. After all consideration we went with it as an educational tool.
We didn't want her to feel dependent upon it or become overly obsessed with it however there was a void in her spelling and reading abilities.. Almost over night her ability to spell and read increased greatly!
She has played Angry Birds and watched Hanna Montanna vids from YouTube (uncle and aunts doing), however her options to text message and play Zoodles has been great! One of the cool things as well, we went out to a Starbucks and she set up the Chess board for us to play, she has Chess on her phone.
Thanks for all the feedback, will try out that idea with a launcher tomorrow.
Adw launcher would have the better options I guess for what you seek. Glad to hear someone else realize the benefit of android for kids!

Child Proof Gadget-Child Lock
A new app is there in google play store. It is also useful if your kid is playing with your android phone. It has all required features, with this its size is very small and it is harmless for your phone. It locks phones homescreen, calls, sms, settings everything which you don't want to allow the kid. it has a facility to create separate 'kid area', where kid can access only allowed apps.
App name : Child Proof Gadget-Child Lock

Is it permanent and auto... I need something like that, I rather not have frequent calls at all (TMI)
Idk if u can completely disable it but long pressing the contact u can remove em in 1 click i will check if they can be disabled and edit the post
Edit: i dont see any option to disable them entirely but deleteing is easy and it deletes the entire frequent call log for that contact and not just one call at a time so if u have (contact name) 15 calls to that contact it deletes all 15 calls and not just 1 call at a time

If you're going to be a douche and cheat on your woman and not have the balls to, you know - be a man and tell her what's up. Then at least put in some effort to cover your tracks instead of being lazy. Delete the frequently called list yourself, manually.
I'll take my infraction if that's what happens. This thread is stupid. Reported.

I think this is a valid topic, regardless of the OP's reasons for wanting to know. I like to show off my phone quite often to demonstrate some of the advantages of Android, and it would be nice not to have sensitive information like that so easily accessible to someone who's just playing around with my phone.

Do most people not know about the apps on the market that hide info like that? If you want to hide certain numbers when they call/text - get a black list app/privacy app or something like that. I like showing off what my phone can do also so I know what you mean. However, I don't allow complete strangers to handle my phone. I don't mind people seeing the name of someone I call often - I'm more concerned about the pictures they might see.
Guys, I use shady sms. It's got a built in call guard and a hidden contact list. Dev is cool too, he responds with help usually same day.
It blocks calls, sms, and hides them in the app. There's no app icon either. To open it, you go to phone, type your secret code, and hit send.

Damn, I was just joking.. Did I touch a spot, did your significant other cheat on you or etc... WOW!
I just want to app that monitors the Frequently Called list and prevents contacts from ever appearing on it without having to manually clear the list.
I know there other members looking for a similar solution to this problem....
Didn't mean to touch a nerve, hope you get your partner back, root their phone or something nice like that! Good luck!
Maybe edit the phone.apk or dialer.apk to get rid of the frequent list all together.
Or it may just be editing a value check for a call to save to the list. That way its always empty.
If you're going to be a jerk to your wife, then at least just get a separate phone. Or maybe you DO want to get caught. If you really cared you would not cheat, and if she's not what you want any more do the right thing and divorce her so she can do what she wants and maybe find someone who respects her without having to be concerned about someone who seems to not care about her(you).
That being said, I would check out Shady SMS, seems to help some ways. I figure the cost is worth it if you don't want to get caught.

I think the app Super Private Conversation hides all communication from certain contacts and it is free on the market.
They changed the name to Private SMS & Call but it works wonders and is free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superdroid.spc&hl=en
Alternatively, just use google voice for that purpose. All outgoing calls and text will be hidden within the google voice app.

Switching from iPhone to Pixel 3 XL - WhatsApp Migration?

So, I'm making the switch. I understand that WhatsApp on the iPhone and Android do not share backups (iCloud v Google Drive). What's the best way to migrate my 3 GB of WA data (text, images, video) for my soon to arrive Pixel 3 XL? I know that WhatsApp says it can't be done but I seem to recall several articles about extracting from an iTune backup and using some software t reconstruct on Android. I also think that Dr Fone claims to do this. Anyone have success? I sure a number of you have made a similar switch and could help me better understand what's ahead. Thanks.
pretty sure you can upload your photos and videos to google photos and then have them download on the pixel (assuming the iphone saves the photos and videos to the gallery)
another limitation of iphones... on android you can literally copy and paste.

Thanks. I'm hoping that I can retain the conversation strings with the media embedded. Dr Fone software claims to support this. I also have read about a more complicated process using Wazzap Migrator and an unencrypted iTunes backup. I'm still hoping that someone here has actually done this and can advise.
Haven't tried it myself, but this seems like a recent way to do it:

Import objects to 3D scanner

3D scanner app exports all scanner objects with there textures to phone memory. (Mtl, obj, texture files)
Would it be possibile to import prescanned objects to the app ?
Has engine success in this ?
also I wonder if it is possible to make some shiny surface not shine.
is there a spray or such to achieve this ?
It's an interesting app, not sure if it has any use yet, but it's a start. It can't / won't do faces.
It actually can do face and head

Didn't Samsung remove that capability day after phone went for sale with the update? I downloaded original version, deleted updated one and installed old one. No go, there is no icon to start it up and as soon as I start it via Bixby vision, it closes. If you know the trick, can you please share or if it's a secret send me a msg? I'm very interested in this app and it was the thing that pushed me into buying 10+, since it's lacking other stuff I wanted and I was on the fence, kind of undecided originally, till I saw that 3d app. Now the stupid app is totally crippled. BTW I have SD so root is out of the question ATM.
No more facial / people scans. This option was removed with the update. Even now I can't completely scan an object as it fails mid way through. Hopefully they will update it again so it's more stable.

I noticed this also. I tried to scan my cousin and it kept giving me an error. I was able to it but only partially starting from the back of the head but by the time I got to the face it kept shutting off. What's up with this? Security issue?
No clue but the only way I was able to scan my kids was to install the original installer of the 3d app and then turn off data and wifi so it wouldn't connect to Samsung and request the update.
Dont see a way to import into the app.
Could be possible.
And for scanning people. I believe it still works.
Seems with the new update. That it fails of the ground is black or darkly colored.
So if your scanning a face. Try to have the person wear a light colored shirt.
Also i had to untill the old one and reboot a few times before installing the new to get it to work.
Can someone post a link to the "original" 3d scanner app from Samsung? The updated one is garbage!

I scanned my wife last week with the updated version. I can't show it because she was naked lol. Had no issues.

Proof or it didn't happen.....
this thread has gone out of its purpose.
I was asking to find/develop import method for pre scanned objects.
nobody interested ?
Win10 comes with 3D viewer, I could open all 3D scans I made on my phone with that viewer, after I transferred the files to my laptop and unzipped them. They actually looked pretty good, textures and everything. Viewer has 3D print and export options, but my 3D printer is not set with Win10 3D printing, so couldn't test that.
But I'm not sure what exactly are you trying to do? Import scans made with phone into what? 3D print them? View them in VR? Or are you trying to import 3D scans from others into phone and use them there? I think Samsung is using Arcsoft software for 3D scanning, maybe that company has other software that could be used with their scans.

All you need after it's created the scan and resulting files(share it as an attachment in an email)is to import it into a slicer(the stl can then be imported directly into your slicer application). Then, create a gcode file to import into your printer..
Done..

Thanks for your responses but I think you totally misunderstood my question.
I am not asking about scanned obkects on phone. I am asking about importing prescanned objects (either scanned on another Note 10 or on PC) to the phone.
Actually I have a few nicely scanned objects (with texture) which I would like to use as AR figures.
did you try copying a 3d scan from another Note, or from a pc? error message or anything? i don't see what would be the problem transferring and viewing 3d scan files between notes but maybe from another device there could be issues due to potential incompatibilities between software/hardware.

Of course, I tried that. File from other Note10+ or from other source does not show up in the application.
I guess the app saves them in a DB together with the individual files. So , we need a "import" method to use them.
